Open Xmas day ! Looking for fresh oysters to plate for Xmas dinner, we drove to Redondo Beach pier. Great selection of live oysters, crabs, lobsters, clams and more ! Excellent service for take out at clam counter. Shucked 18 oysters an assortment of Midnight , Cortez, Pacific and Baja. He made sure they would stay fresh by putting the shell top back on and packed them in 3 boxes with ice. We also took some steamed and chilled stone crab legs and Dungeness crabs as well. All in all 5 hours later, everything was delicious as if we ate them at the pier hours ago. Shout out to wonderful manager at clam counter ! We are still big fans of the QS. I will cut to the chase since I have written about them a lot and have many reviews to write. We got two different types of clams and the green lip mussels in their white wine broth. On point as usual. The FRIED SHRIMP at the fried counter were quite large and had a MEDIUM thick darker batter. They were very tasty and I dipped some into tartar sauce. Next time we are doing GRILLED SHRIMP. The SEA BREAM grilled fish is still our newer favorite. It is nuttier tasting than our old faithful branzino. It tastes better for some reason, maybe fattier. Perfectly cooked fish. The GRILLED LARGE WHOLE SQUID (cut into rings and legs) is another perfectly cooked gem. I like the MANGO CART beer on tap with 3 sizes available. The fried counter is long and slow most of the time which is a con. Security is present which I think is a positive. I also like that RB has a great police presence in this area. read more

The fish was battered well but the fish itself felt so low quality. It wasn't flaky and it felt like they got the cheapest cut of white fish and just fried it. Clam chowder: It's okay to good. Decent amount of seafood bits inside and the cream did not overpower the intended taste of the dish. Seafood boil (not pictured): It's a bit on the salty side. The shrimp was good, corn was cooked well, potatoes were tender. An okay thing to get for sharing if people are down to get their hands dirty. Ambiance: Wet market with a food court style payment system. First timers will definitely feel lost and feel the need to go with the flow which risks them not falling in line for what they may want. Seating is also food court style, so have someone secure a seat before ordering. Service: It's generally a self service spot. Staff take your order and give you your food. They've got a massive selection of fresh fishes, crabs, lobsters, etc. and the neat part is they can prepare on the spot anything you buy from them either by grilling, deep fry, or steamed. Went for a pair of two different crabs which I had steamed. Really awesome experience, sitting out in the open enjoying fresh seafood in a casual public setting among dozens of other folks doing the same, plenty more waiting to do exactly that. Long lines on the weekends, but well worth it for the experience. I don't come by Redondo Beach often at all, but if I do again, will be planning for another hungry stop here. read more

I did an order for 3 lobster meals but I guess the person that did the order (TJ) did not completely see it through. Due to me working in all, I decided to place a delivery order. The food deliver is under Mercato. From there you select your items, how you want it prepared and delivery instructions. Smoked salmon is a popular item and was not available on the menu. I called and spoke with Marcia and she was able to place an order for me. I selected 12-1 lunch break to deliver. The next day I was contacted and stated that they were out of snapper and they offered the next best most popular purchase Mexican Snapper. He provided the region, explained the flavor profile and I accepted. He cleaned/scaled/scored my whole snapper too. Due to unusually circumstances, Mercato did not deliver. I've been coming here since I was 8 years old. This is always a must visit place whenever I am in the area. The seafood here is always fresh. I always order the clam chowder with white rice. I get the largest size and it can feed up to 5 people. The tako poke is was delicious. They also serve alcohol in cans as well as in a pitcher. There is upstairs and downstairs seating. The weekends get pretty packed so I usually go on the weekdays. There is also a big parking garage and pier to go fishing and walk around at. My husband likes to eat their premium oysters which they shuck right in front of you. Then we go over to the clams and get the clams of our choice they add wine sauce and steam! We opted for the larger clams, which were super tasty, steamed in a light white sauce that complemented them well. Although the uni was alive when we got it (we chose a medium-sized one), the taste wasn't as fresh as we had hoped. The calamari was disappointing--it seemed like the squid was still wet when they powdered it, so when fried, the coating didn't stay on. The fish and chips were also bland.
