These stores are rapidly becoming obsolete, archaic, to the point that visiting one makes me feel…read moremore like an archaeologist than a customer. They still sell correction fluid for Ganesh's sake, who on this Earth would still need "White Out?" A pencil sharpener? A big desk top calculator (look if you're under 35 you're not picturing this right, I'm talking about on top of an actual desk...never mind), actual filing cabinets and file folders (again, if you're under 35 I am pretty sure you're not picturing what I'm talking about). Well still, it's fun to shop here because sometimes you want some obsolete office supply thing you once used to have to use at work, like a little dry erase board or a bouncy rubber pencil eraser. Because they are facing that inevitable descent into history, they've got some very low prices on stuff they don't make any more. Functional large outdated desk top computer printers, bigger in size smaller in storage capacity USB drives, last year's portable Bluetooth speakers.... And this Office Depot is staffed by very friendly, eager, somewhat lonely and underutilized young workers. Three of them asked me very sincerely "can I help you find something?" and all three pretended it was funny when I asked for my wife. Well two did, the third actually looked for her. We were the only two customers in the store, well the one customer and her archaeologist Yelper comedian husband. In hindsight, I feel kind of sorry that they all had to endure me.

I recently bought a laptop here after my old one died. This was at the end of February. Here it…read moreis May, and I had a major problem with it; the internet kept dying out while I was in the middle of doing something. Very annoying! Generally, I was able to reconnect but this would happen several times in a day! It was not our internet carrier, as my brother had a laptop that was running just fine, so I knew it had to be something in the computer. Finally, I could not longer reconnect at all, so I took it in to the store to see if they could help. There they ran a diagnosis and thought it was something in the hardware that was blocking it. I was advised to call Dell (the model I had) to see if they could repair it. I did have a warranty (2 years). First I had to call where the warranty was being held, and after they ran a diagnosis, they told me the problem was not in the hardware but the software and they transferred me to a Dell representative.. Right off the bat, I was told I had a warranty for the hardware but not the software problem and I needed to buy protection to fix the problem. It seems every time you call one of these outfits, you get a sales pitch. Finally I asked for what was the best bargain available so I could get this fixed! Prices ranged from $129 (1 year) to 225! After having already paid enough in February, the thought of that was troubling, but I went with the $129, figuring if I had to get a tech, it would cost much more. After 2 hours(!) of going over various issues, we found the problem though we still don't know why it happened; the internet was completely disabled. We managed to get it back up and running and I was happy, somewhat. At first I was angry at Dell, but it really wasn't their problem, it was Office Depot who should have told me I needed better coverage, so I could have paid at the time of sale. All I can say to people who buy their computers there, make sure you get a comprehensive warranty.
