I came in to see what happened and they said that the little plastic coolant pipes that go to the water pump were dissolving. I'm honestly quite annoyed because I feel like this is something that should have been noticed a year ago and I highly doubt this wear and tear appeared in a year on a car that already had 170,000 miles. I ended up going to another guy that actually cares about older cars (mine's a 2006) and he figured out it was another gasket in my engine, not a head gasket like they were claiming. Applewood wanted to charge me $4800 in total for a car I paid $3000 for. My mechanic was able to do it for $560 because he just replaced the radiator cap and plastic gasket that gets worn down at almost 170,000 miles each time. I also am a woman so when I called them they used a very sarcastic tone with me and kept gaslighting me on the issue. Sure a head gasket repair may have fixed the problem but I would have wildly overpaid. I added my inspection report that was wildly overstated and would have costed me $4800 for something that they should have already replaced or told me about considering they had replaced my entire water pump and the hose connecting to it.

So I asked Autofordable to bring out a new alternator to install, but to check the alternator before installing to see if it really did need to be replaced. Dan, tested my car and said, the output was slightly high, but it was "passing" on his diag, so if it was his car, he wouldn't spend the $500ish on replacing it. I decided to hold off on the replacement, which saved me a ton of money right before Christmas! I also had my driver door handle replaced, and he fixed my issue with the car revving in idle. It was so convenient not having to spend the day at the shop with my little one, and she was able to nap during the whole experience. After months of chasing a "P0340 - Camshaft Position Sensor" code I finally decided to take my…read more4Runner in and pay a mechanic with a fancy computer to figure out what the issue was. I dropped it off, was given a fair price, and was told by Aiden at the front desk it would be done the same day. A couple hours later I was given a call and a very easy to follow mechanics report including photos of the exact wire that had broken off inside the connector was included. I opted to solder the wire back on myself instead of having them splice a new one in and Aiden gave me the total cost... LESS THAN WHAT HE HAD ORIGINALLY QUOTED! As it turns out while the mechanic (Dan) was working on my car he saw my gear In the back of my car and realized I was a firefighter so the gave me the discount without me even asking for it. I took the car back in after I finished the soldering to have Aiden reset the computer and clear the codes, which he did for free, and have been driving the car for months now with no further issues. This was without a doubt the best experience I have ever had with an auto shop and I highly recommend this service station wither you need work, maintenance, or just need some advice from a real mechanic.
