The property is pretty big and Cara is such a wonderful host, and has a sweet South-Texas-Country charm. It's close to town, yet in the country. They can point you toward all kinds of activities including hunting, river,etc. Of course, it was nice that they have their own pool to enjoy after a long hot Texas day. The decoration and furniture is more expensive than usual. You can tell they've put a lot of money into the property. I highly recommend anyone going to Uvalde to stay here instead of a hotel. They also have a zip-line for the kiddos, or in my case the adult kiddo :) Of course, breakfast is homemade and tasty. They open nice and early at 8am so you can get ice and whatever else you may have forgotten. They have a little bit of everything from food items to water items: great tubes to float in if you just got a hole in yours lol There are souvenirs, T-shirts, hats of all sorts, all types of RV items, or household items as well . We notified the staff (which is frequently patrolling the property) and someone was at our cabin within 10 minutes to spray. Problem solved! We have always had courteous treatment here. The staff waves every time you see them. The last two years someone has stopped in a golf cart and offered to drive my parents down to the river. They have a beautiful swimming pool and there is a quiet time that they enforce. I can't say enough good about his place. Will definitely be back next year!

Place is private for which there is a fee for day pass or cabin rental fee/ person. Please do and ask all questions about your cabin as they are all different. Some were more updated than others .most did not include stove or full size Fridge. Cabins are not kept up pretty well and are pretty small. Mattress feels a bit like cardboard and has no support. We had a mini fridge and were not able to keep items cold. Top loft is pretty small for which even kids hit their head. The experience overall is very relaxing. Recommend bringing outdoor/Christmas lights for better lighting. Our cabin had a pretty spacious cover patio that looked to the river. Each area comes with their own grill. Service was always great. Store items are as expected higher price than normal. But it does save you a 30 min drive to town. They do have a cute petting zoo area. And other minor activities to stay busy. River was low one day and high the next, swim at your own risk. Water was pretty cold to keep you refreshed and relaxed. Over all great place but will definitely do more research on which cabin I will be getting next time.

We booked Chalk Bluff River Resort for Labor Day weekend after we weren't able to get a cabin at…read moreGarner State Park. My wife had visited Chalk Bluff as a child, so there was also some nostalgia involved in choosing it for our family trip. We arrived late Friday night and immediately got a sense of how crowded the resort was. The neighboring cabin's occupants were parked in our designated spot, although they moved without any conflict when we arrived. Their front door was also immediately adjacent to ours, making the cabins feel very crowded together. Throughout the resort, there seemed to be a large number of people staying at each site. We expected a rustic cabin, but ours had some significant maintenance and cleanliness issues. We killed multiple large cockroaches shortly after arriving. Several lights were burned out, with an oddly placed LED light apparently being used to compensate for the poor lighting in one area. The air conditioner seemed undersized for the cabin and was unplugged when we arrived. The bathroom was particularly problematic. The hot and cold shower controls were individual faucet-style handles, one of which didn't operate properly, making it extremely difficult to regulate the shower temperature. The toilet mechanism was also damaged and had to be manually reset between uses. After a hot first night, we spent Saturday tubing the Frio and bought a box fan on the way back to improve the airflow in the cabin. We decided to stay another night because we wanted to spend Sunday actually exploring the resort. There were some things the kids enjoyed. The animal area was fun, although the giraffe and longhorns weren't accessible during our visit. The playground was okay, and the sturdy two-person metal swings were a hit. The river itself is wide and tranquil with some nice deeper areas, although the water wasn't nearly as clear as what we'd experienced on the Frio. On Labor Day weekend it was extremely crowded, with tents and chairs lining the bank and even extending into the water. There was also quite a bit of drinking and smoking around us. We spent a few hours in the water while leaving our inexpensive soft-sided Buc-ee's cooler on a rocky area nearby. When we returned, the cooler was gone. We obviously can't say who took it or exactly what happened to it, but it was an unpleasant end to an already disappointing stay. At that point we decided we'd rather leave early, get a hot shower, and spend the night in a clean hotel. We explained to the staff that we were checking out early and why. There was no offer of a partial refund, and the response was essentially that we shouldn't come during a holiday weekend. I understand that Labor Day is going to be one of the busiest weekends of the year, and crowds themselves aren't the resort's fault. However, the condition of our cabin, inadequate cooling, bathroom maintenance problems, cleanliness issues, and our overall experience went well beyond simply being busy. Unfortunately, the nostalgia my wife had for Chalk Bluff didn't match our experience this trip. We checked out early and won't return. Based on our stay, I also wouldn't recommend it for families looking for a comfortable cabin-and-river getaway.

Jax is their dog who is great , you can find him helping to manage things. He is a character. He can open and shut the office door and often takes the passenger seat on the golf cart. Truly a great experience and plenty of space between spots. They have propane on site and wifi and direct TV.

We've stayed here a few times and it is an overall nice experience, but there are some things with…read morethe cabins that need to be addressed. 1. The keypads to enter get so hot and it is difficult to enter your code mid-day. You have to stand there for a while and wait for it to recognize what number you tapped because of the delay. Not too fun when you have kids and everyone's fingertips are burning when they try to enter the code. 2. I don't believe the cabins are cleaned thoroughly between users. When you leave you have to gather dirty linens together, take out trash, and sweep. I think that's the extent to the cleaning done, with new linens and paper products being added. On our most recent trip I brought counter wipes and wiped both bathroom countertops, and the kitchen counters, and the wipes had dust/dirt all over them. 3. Mysterious stains on our washcloths 4. I don't think the floors are mopped between users, we had an unknown substance on our bathroom floor, and we walked around in socks that turned totally brown. 5. Bring pillows if you come! Each bed comes with 2 flat pillows. The beds are very firm, too. So if you like a softer bed and bigger pillows, accommodate for that. 6. If you want to use your patio you have to clean it. Chances are it'll be COVERED in bird poop. It would be nice if the cleaning person/crew gave everything a good wash out there before the next users came. 7. If you swim in the river there's no where to put your wet items. We wanted to hang them on the patio furniture, but again- everything is covered with bird poop. We didn't want to make creamy bird doo on our swim tops. 8. The entire place is sand and rock. To enter your cabin is a small door mat, and when you step inside your cabin you may or may not have another door mat. Unless you lay a towel down inside and have your family wipe their feet off, dirt will be everywhere. Overall we had a good time as a family. But, as a family with many young kids we bring lots of gear and are ready to just relax when we get there after the long drive. It's unfortunate at the amount of dirt and dust and bird poop. I'd like to just be able to let my kids play without having to spend so much of my own vacation cleaning before we settle in, and also cleaning when we're ready to leave like an Air Bnb makes you do.
