This was a great first camping experience! I went with a group of friends last month and I loved that we had an energy block at every campsite so you could actually plug-in stoves or lights things like that. since I am a beginner I wasn't ready to fully unplug for a camping trip. The resort is right next to a river that is just so beautiful and clear, though a little mossy on the bottom. But you can fish, tube or canoe. And the best part is the river is warm. We went during one of the coldest weekends and the water was warmer than the air. There is also an office where you check in. And they sell logs and things like that in the shop. So if you ever do need something you don't have to run to a Walmart or whatever. I did have service out here for my phone so that was another plus for me as well. Since it was my first time I was a little nervous the first night and knowing that you can reach emergency services if you need to is good. The only thing I wish is that we could hike the mountain right next-door to the campsite on the other side of the river.

Beautiful river with clear water

I read other reviews and agree with most. The name of resort may be a little far fetched. When driving in I was a little spooked. I can see where RV campers may enjoy but the cabins didn't look appealing. This a big and great property but it has been incredibly neglected, unfortunately. This could be absolutely gorgeous with a lot of TLC! But don't let that stop you! Once you get to the river.....aaaaaaaaaaahhh! The view of this bluff is incredible. The road to the river is all rocks and the floor of the river is too. It's sooo pretty and the water is beautiful and CLEAR. My pics are from 7/3 at 630pm so many had already left. We were there on the 4th too and it was PACKED. Literally tent after tent in the river. My next visit will be during a weekday. I don't like being too close to other parties only because I can't hear our music, there's like 5 different genre's going, i knew everyone's name around us, I couldn't really take a nap which i look forward to when by the water chilling. It was just my honey and I and we like to just sit, listen to our music, drink and take a snooze. Of course we like going with friends too but this was just OUR time. Nevertheless it was a first great experience on the river. Also, there is a $20 a person, not carload, for a day pass. We didn't mind knowing the area was clean by the river and there was no grass, algae, tree limbs or brush to deal with. So go check it out!

This review covers the park and the cabins Pros: Clear water Not too crowded Family oriented with playground and activities Reservations can be made last minute even during the summer months Cons: $25 per dog per stay Pricy cabins for what you get I have been to chalk bluff several times for either camping, glamping or a day trip. The river is always nice and there's always space to set up. They have some trees for shade, but I would suggest you take a canopy. The water is clear. The river has some shallow and some deep areas. I've never really seen too much trash lying around. The rooms: this time we stayed in a loft ($169 per night) with three beds and a small kitchen. You do have to bring all your supplies like toilet paper, toiletries, towels, cleaning supplies, etc. The beds were super squeaky. Any kind of movement and everyone in the loft would know. The kitchen has a small dorm fridge, microwave, coffee maker and a hot plate. The two days we stayed, the water kept going in and out. We all had to take quick showers in case the water stopped working. The window AC unit worked well. It did take time to cool the bedroom part of the loft. They do have bbq pits in front of each cabin. Bring your own bbq supplies. 11pm is quiet time, but good luck with that. Our neighbors were up and loud till 2am. I can't say I wouldn't return. The benefits do outweigh any cons.

CARS for miles .....

We planned this trip for 2months , it's rare we get together and what better than a bit of cooking off ..... WELL roads coming in you better have a 4x4 cause those roads are ridiculous!! Cabins were "ok" but we had to spray a bunch of Lysol and wipe everything down , was by a family where their adult kids were outside smoking weed when my young children/grand baby were outside ( never had anyone pass to check the grounds ) ... AND this "day-pass" thing is a bit ridiculous , at least have a set amount of people to come in , I sat at my cabin and watched coming since 8 in the morning AND then when it was our time to go it was so super packed !!! They were nice on the phone and in person BUT a friendly face doesn't cover the money you've spent to just RELAX and can't ..... Balmorreah Texas here we come .....

Chalk Bluff at Nueces River

The Nueces River is beautiful, clear and cool on this August day. Easy to park and pop up your canopy on the River front. Wear water sandals, not water socks. The rocks are big. We placed our chairs in the water for hours and really enjoyed our time. Kids loved the rope swing into the water. Downside: the restrooms are gross. Dark, dingy, smelly. Not maintained well at all need to be completely refurbished. The rest of the property looks old as well.

Super clean and clear water!

This place is amazingly Beautiful! Nature in a way you won't see many other places in Texas! The staff is friendly and very helpful. Now - this is the part I need you to read...you are going here for the River and nature, not the lodging! It is not a 5 start hotel. Cabins are a bit outdated and only have the bare minimum. You won't be staying inside though with the crystal clear water right outside! Sleep, shower and poop and get back outside lol!

A secret spot to the far left

I almost want to lie to discourage people from coming here because it's SUCH a hidden gem. Didn't know texas can have such clear waters, the scenery was just lovely and the free deer roaming around was a cherry on top.

I costed a few months ago and it is an experience I will never forget. This place is amazing. The animal experience was more than I could have hopped for. Our guide was so kind. I highly recommend this experience. Once in a lifetime

Jessica E.

We had an AMAZING day trip! We only came for the animal encounter and to swim. Both were exceptional. My 3 kids absolutely fell in love with every minute of the animal encounter, especially the monkeys. Our guide was so helpful, kind, and knowledgeable, she really made the experience memorable. This is an all female run operation, I think they are all pretty bad ass. We will definitely do this again, especially when the sloth habitat opens!

Wow I didn't know I was so close to this beautiful river

Well I loved it best part no one was there lol Driving 1 hour 20 min so worth getting out of the city for the day. Had a great picnic out there the water was super cold lol but very nice. Petted some of the animals that was fun felt like a kid going from one animal to another great place to just get away. I will be taking my grandbabies out there I am sure they will love seeing the petting animals not only reading about them in books. They are only 2 and 5 years old if I enjoyed it I am sure they will think it the best. It was clean you get a bag for trash they have clean restrooms and showers. They have where you can rent to stay a few days or just a day pass like what we had but will be going back with the girls. The scene is beautiful I forgot what going to the river was and it was fun. I will 4sure go back look them up for all the information you will not be disappointed I promise. Hope you'll enjoy the rest of the beautiful pictures. Stay safe out there friends.

What is great about the location is you are a very small walk down to the river bank, but way up high on the cliff to get a great view of the area. When the sun gets past 7pm, the oak trees give a lot of shade for the dinner hour. You are also near Old Baldy trailhead if you want to do a quick climb up the tallest peak there. Parkview has all of the amenities like a general store, full service bathrooms that are kept clean, and daily trash pickup. The wifi is pretty unreliable but does work with a delay like satellite internet. If you have AT&T for cellular service, you will be fine in the Concan area. Everyone else will suffer the total disconnect from the virtual world, which you were hoping to get away from, right? I usually go during Father's day week which seems to be a very busy time. It's hard to get a reserved spot during peak times, so be sure to ask to get on a waiting list.

There is no television signal in the valley, but there is Dish equipment you can get from the office at no charge. Highly recommend it. Towing on Cty Rd 348...I would recommend only doing it from 83, which is kind of a wheel-gripper itself. 348 coming from 127 in Concan would be a nightmare. Jamie & B (Bianca) in the front office are friendly & helpful. They gave us easy directions to our spot & gave us plenty of info on things to do at the resort & in the surrounding area. We enjoyed talking to them so much! They were great! We drove across a small bridge in the resort into the Adults Only section & I swear I heard the birds chirping a happy little song welcoming us...lol We looked into the water & my bf said "I wonder if I can fish?! (He could & he did!) We had an end lot in the center. It was a perfect spot w a nice, sturdy metal table & 4 chairs. The area was quiet & peaceful. At night all we could see were stars...and more stars. This is the place to be for stargazing. At the time we still had our 24 ft RV & it fit perfectly. On the outside of the circle in the Adults only area there are huge spaces for larger RV's & motor homes. During our stay we walked up to the office to buy a few things & the prices were actually reasonable compared to other RV resorts we have stayed at. We loved the Adults Only pool & hot tub. We wish more resorts actually thought about the fact that there are a lot of Adults that want to relax at the pool without kids yelling, screaming & splashing them. Some of us are trying to get away for a wknd & relax. At other resorts there are kids running wild everywhere with little to no supervision. If you book here, especially in the Adults Only area, you will actually be able to enjoy a tranquil getaway. You will hear the wind blowing, not kids screaming. Don't worry though, if you're traveling w the Brady bunch you can book one of the many lovely spots in the other section of the resort. There's a pool for everyone that is also very large & nice. There you can enjoy the sounds of your children screaming & splashing with new friends! Speaking of friends, we met some of the most wonderful people on our last trip to Buckhorn Lake. At some RV resorts I have heard /read reviews complaining that long term tenants are unfriendly. Well, we found just the opposite. We met numerous people who stay at Buckhorn for months at a time and they were all so welcoming! One evening we ended up in the front "yard" of an amazing couples spot for hours. They were friends w a bunch of other regulars at the resort also. Our absolute favorite person at this resort has to be Chris! He came into the pool area our first night when we were in the hot tub. He was just making sure everything was turned off (lights) & locked up. There's a code to get into the very clean & nice restrooms. We ended up talking quite awhile. He told us all about the fun events that happen at Buckhorn Lake RV resort. This isn't JUST an RV park. It is truly a resort with plenty to do OR not do. Your choice. My bf had fun fishing in the early morning. (Catch & release) There is a fitness center & game room. They have tennis courts! There is also a really cool outdoor bar area near a big red barn for Happy Hours & Potlucks. They have an awesome theater room where they will soon be having a Super Bowl party. Every wknd they plan activities for their guests. There's no pressure to join but everyone is welcome! Chris takes care of the grounds & even stops by everyone's RV in the mornings to get your trash for you. He has the best personality. He made us want to come back bc he made us feel so welcome. I wish everyone had the kind of positive attitude that he has & loved their job as much as he does. He may never know this but he was a huge reason why our 1st visit to Buckhorn was such an excellent experience. If you ever see this, THANK YOU SO MUCH CHRIS! If you want to enjoy the Hill Country in the Kerrville area there can't possibly be another place that could come close to being as great as Buckhorn Lake RV resort. This is just my opinion though. The fact that we booked 3 more visits in advance the day we checked out is proof enough! This place books up... Apparently we are not the only people that know how great this place is. We visited Buckhorn the first time in September 2022. I decided to wait & visit more RV resorts before posting my review. I can tell you without a doubt that this resort is excellent. In comparison to others in the Hill Country it has more activities & more amenities. It is definitely more beautiful! We have stayed at other great places but there is something special about Buckhorn Lake. Go & find out for yourself! Our next booking is coming up & we can't wait! Btw, I have so many more photos but they are on my old phone. I'll add them ASAP!
