5 stars for the clarity of the water and beautiful scenery. I have been extreme camping so I am not sensitive to the out doors , there is room to improve to call this place a nice resort , worn down cabins and restrooms no toilet paper no hand soap , came across some roaches in the restroom. That is ok but would be more considerate considering going through a pandemic . We came on a Monday and got a good spot as people left ,still practice social distancing , there is no discretion when it comes to Social distancing .I have seen this place cap out to where there is no parking, Don't get me wrong This river is great, shallow areas, ropes, maybe 10-13 ft deep ends to jump in to, the week day worked better than expected. $10 a person, we thought was ok , you can call the automated system for details , as they do have a front desk just don't expect for them to answer .We received a map upon entry as we were first timers, took a some time to figure out where to park . read more

They're getting one star because I can't put zero stars. After we reserved a spot we had a lot of questions about the place and online they recommend you email so they can get back to you quickly. They NEVER got back to us, we sent multiple emails and attempted to even call but nothing. The pictures online are not as good as they seem. We showed up early and were given a really bad spot, we requested to get moved but they said they had to wait and see if anyone else was gonna show up first (even tho they said it was a first come first serve and they go by default apparently). There's a long caliche road to enter the resort so I don't recommend bringing a brand new vehicle. Our tent sight was nothing but dirt, thorns and little to no shade. And to get to the water you have to go all the way to the other side of the resort (which is packed with people). We reserved 3 nights, but decided to leave early. read more

We have been coming for years !! We arrived and the water is super low , about 4 feet deep and the rest is puddles . Nothing was posted on website and of course it's full price of $10 a person including a 3 year old and dogs are $5 Front bathrooms out of order, had to walk all the way to the other ones in the back and only one was working . Neither one of the bathrooms had toilet paper and were dirty. Probably Won't be returning here . read more

The river itself is always nice but everything else about this resort is subpar at best. We've been going to this resort for several years now and the cabins are still very out of date. The road leading to the resort, Chalk Bluff st, which is a mile, is just rocks and is so bumpy. One year we got a flat due to the road. Oh and on top of the very out of date rough looking cabins our gas stove didn't work. We told them and there was no apology or looking at it. Nothing. So considering just going for the day if we go again because the cabins are horrible. On the plus side the river is very clear and has deep parts that we enjoy but other than that... read more

We read lots of bad reviews (after we booked and before we arrived). As far as campgrounds go I give this 4 stars. If you are expecting a five star classy resort with pools and spas THIS IS NOT FOR YOU. If you want a fun, clean family camping trip then you will enjoy your stay. Our cabin was clean. What a huge disappointment! I stayed here 3 times prior to this visit with the new owners. We were the only people staying in a cabin, yet they placed at one with no fire ring, the grill was filthy with pieces of food still on it. The picnic table wasn't usable. Bats were living in the attic of roof (we saw them fly out and heard them in the night after they returned). The river is beautiful but shoreline trashed out (and this was on a Thursday in early May). Will never go back to this place again. read more

My family and I went to Chalk Bluff Park several times about 7 or 8 years ago. We always enjoyed our time there. We were a bit disappointed this weekend. All of the facilities are very run down. They look like they haven't seen any maintenance in about 20 years. We stayed in a cabin. I wasn't expecting much because I already knew the cabins were pretty basic. But I was disappointed to find a pretty lumpy bed, a stove that smelled of gas whenever it was used, a leaky shower, and a hot room because the AC hadn't been turned on before our arrival. I also noticed that much of the playground equipment was broken, quite a few of the yard lights were out, and that the office store had mostly empty shelves. This park was once a nice place to stay and it still has great potential. Let's hope the management can get things back in order. read more

Been coming here for 9 years and this might be our last. We understand that the floods greatly affected the terrain, but their prices increased for un-camp-able land. We paid $65 for primitive camping and everyone in our group of 20 paid a different price. It was like they were making up prices as they went. We were the first ones in our group to arrive and several of our friends said that the owner told them to Venmo us money. We couldn't find a flat spot to put a tent and the whole place was flipped up dirt from their terrible attempt at bulldozing. Wet dogs plus dirt obviously not a good mix and there was no way to avoid it. We've loved this place because it's naturally beautiful, but you couldn't have worse people in charge of such a beautiful piece of land. Such a shame. And don't get me started on the restrooms. I'm pretty sure an owner hasn't stepped foot in one of them in at least 20 years judging by the grime and cobwebs. You'd come out dirtier than you went in if you tried to shower there. So gross. The only benefit to this property is that they allow alcohol or we'd definitely camp down the road at the state park. Oh and we tried to contact the owners several days in advance to make sure they were open and no one would answer or respond to our voicemails. Just terrible service all around. It looks like a uninhabited trailer park in the most beautiful background. read more

Scenery is beautiful as well as the animals that the kids can feed, but cabins are below par. The park offers a lot to do, but it isn't well maintained. Staff is nice and helpful, I just wish that it was better taken care of as far as campsites and cabins. read more

On the pictures it looks so good and cute when you get there everything looks like a dump, it stinks they never take out the garbage. We didn't have grill like we were supposed to have the most part. There was a truck parked in our RV spot and it took 30 minutes for the residents to come and tell the people to move their truck. They're short staffed I guess because when we tried calling, texting, getting them on Instagram and even emailing them, they wouldn't answer and when they did answer the one time he sounded like he was exhausted and when we called him it was about an hour whenever we got for his service. They close so early that we couldn't get ice to put in our cooler, and my kids were so excited to go on the jumpy mat, but it wasn't even out half of the time we were there. Their prices are outrageous it's $50 a person to ride on something it's definitely not supposed to be so pricey when the place looks, so disgusting. I'm so glad we have an RV because I would not stay in one of those cabins. Please never come here. I have to say I would never come here ever again. read more

Started going to chalk bluff around 1970 when Mr and Mrs Wallace owned it. It only had a few cabins and was a total hidden gem. I have not been in many years but it is ashame to hear that it has been run down. Tragic!! read more

The water here is beautiful!! We camped here with our family. We found the bathrooms to be disgusting, overflowing out the door. The trash piled up everywhere! We were sad to see the RV spots did not have any trees or shade of any kind. The mini golf is not in operation, and when we tried to rent kayaks they said they were full of holes and couldn't be rented. The jumper was only open for a short time on 2 of the days we were there, and it was an extra charge! We paid more here than any other Texas park we have stayed in, and got way less. We enjoyed feeding the animals. It was so crowded with "day pass" people on the weekend that the staff was unable to control them parking in the riverbed, throwing trash around, playing loud music at the water. It has the potential to be so much more! Hope they take the time to make some improvements, it's beautiful there! read more

This place has great places for kids to play at, they have a river and moon/ jump pillows. Adults can relax in the river and look at the animals also on Saturday they have a big dance under a pavilion. I really recommend this place if you are looking for a nice, fun, relaxing, place. read more

This business used to be known as the Chalk Bluff Park. It has been renamed to Chalk Bluff River Resort & Park by the new owners, the Murphys. They are doing an incredible job renovating the property! I just spent 4 days in the park and really enjoyed myself. The cabin was clean and the bed was comfortable. The staff was very friendly! The grounds are well maintained. I spoke to the Murphys and their plans for the property are amazing to include a corn maze, petting zoo, possibility a bounce house or some other similar type of activity. I will be keeping my eye on their progress since this would be the ideal spot for a family vacation. The Nueces River flows along the edge of the campgrounds. It is excellent for fishing, tournaments are held there during the year. I heard the cat fishing is good too. The water is refreshing and clear as can be! Finally, I really like the off-season. During this time of the year and during the week, it was very quiet. The weather was excellent - dry and warm (mid 70's). Beautiful sunrises and sunsets, plus the conditions for star gazing at night were excellent. Being from Northern California, the respite from the wet and cold weather was welcomed. Next year, I will haul my trailer to there park and stay for a few weeks! The Park is worth the drive!!! read more

This so called resort has been around for decades. At one time it was a jewel of a vacation spot and not very far from where I live.I had an opportunity to visit, this Memorial Day weekend. The one road that leads into this now motel 6 of resorts was a bumpy unmaintained road, the same one I drove on decades ago only more in disrepair. There were a lot more cabins now. The trees around these third world brick rooms were overgrown and uncut. The showers hot and cold water were regulated by blue and red gate valves. Beds bedding,curtains and rods appeared to have been there since they opened. The ash from the bar b q pit was already piled up to the bottom of the pit. These have been some crazy times with pandemic and all. People were needing to get out. Before you knew it there were hundreds of cars that were parking everywhere without regard for guests. There was no one there that could be identified as a "resort" associate to regulate anything! It's sad how the management has let this once beautiful park turn into the motel 6 of resorts. Let me start by saying you will love the swimming here...lots of water to pick a spot ...campground could be cleaner...keep in mind, they have NO DUMP STATION here so unless you are on a full service site (all of these are in full sun, no shade)., you will have to pay a site fee to dump your waste at one of the full service sites...what do you do if those sites are all being used?; your guess is as good as mine...office tried to tell me this is the norm now...we've been to dozens of campgrounds and this is the first one that had no dump site (office does not inform you of this on checking in)...oh and if you love to let your dog run free, this is the place for you.. read more

This place was once a hidden treasure.It has gone to the worst it's ever been.I was lied to about the water levels .I payed for Labor Day weekend and left just as soon as i got there.Big disappointment !! My family and friends and their family about 16 of us were there on Monday. I was so embarrased by the looks and how run down and scary looking this place is. I have been comin here since I was a little girl, brought my girls, and now bringing grandsons. Used to be an awesome place, no improvements in years, yet they feel like they are worth A $10 entrance fee? Really? Here's a clue charge $5 then you can get more people and maybe make some improvements, off to concan from now on . What a sad sad situation,to let this beautiful place go to the dumps.
