I had not great experiences at the Phoenix sewing multi-brand store (not Mulqueen or Bernina). I had said I wanted to stay under $1k and had received the most appalled reaction and customer service. Contrast to Mulqueen. Walk in, all the machines are on & ready to play with. I had called to check availability of a few models and chose this location over tempe based on machines on the floor. I brought scraps with me & set to testing but was quickly confused by some of the buttons. A woman appeared right about that time, sat down next to me and walked me through it. Keep in mind this was a $500 machine not $3k or something. She even suggested a less expensive version next to it often used in their classes (Janome) ultimately decided this was too basic & I missed computerized so she walked me to the Juki I requested next & I quickly set to work testing it. This particular model (hzl f600) was over m y budget but I knew the basic functionality was similar to the ones I was considering. Absolutely loved it! Denim, slippery rayon, no issues. She said you know we might have this used. She walked me to the oasis of used/refurb machines. They had every machine I was considering-available used/refurb and under $1k!! I ultimately got the f600 used -could not be happier-and saved enough to buy way more fabric than I need. My only complaint is we need a location in Phoenix or Scottsdale!!!! The gentleman in the refurb area was also super helpful answering questions the woman couldn't (she had long gray hair but didn't catch a name). Well worth the 35 minute drive & seriously only place I will go for machines.

The store is open and bright with a big table down one side for classes. You can also just go in and get help, or sit with other beaders to finish a project your working on. Their seed bead, delica's crystal selections and findings are amazing at great prices. So many colors!!!! All around the store they have displays of beading projects completed to help you with ideas and colors to use with your own projects. The owners are so friendly and always willing to help with any question or any project your having problems with. I found this store because I took a class here, and had such a good time that I started to bead again. If you are looking to make beautiful jewelry for yourself or friends as gifts come here you won't be disappointed.

Hammer & Stain - Skeins for the Blankets & Besties workshop. Examples of crafts from other workshops

We signed up for the Blankets & Besties workshop, where you make a chunky blanket. You get to choose your color from a list and note it when you register on their website. It was $85 before tax and came with 5 skeins of yarn, with the option to add more (I think for an additional $15). I also put in the notes on my registration the names of my friends so that we could sit together. The workshop was at 6pm on a Friday and lasted about two hours. There was my group of three and three others, plus the owner/instructor Lauren. Her instructions were easy to follow, and she would jump in if we needed help. I made a few errors, and she was able to fix them for me. I ended up making my loops too loose on the outside and too tight on the inside, so my blanket came out a bit small. But I think it was decent for my first attempt. It's so soft. I keep it on my couch to use as a lap blanket. We all had a great time and would definitely come back to try other workshops. My coworker had tried one of the resin workshops and really liked it too.

The leader just said instructions quickly and with everyone doing so many different projects at same time, she couldn't go step by step to show anything or show different techniques. I was told that the resin would fall off the sides of the wood but I could put resin if I wanted. Well, it didn't fall off the side and looks bad. We luckily had a nice couple across from us with experience using resin and helped us along the way. I also googled things along the way (like how much resin is too thick cause that was never mentioned). For the price I paid I should not be googling information or asking other customers.
