One thing that I should mention so many years later. This is one of the few stores that will actually check you out. Like with a human. I still don't buy fish or unprocessed meats here. It's mostly chicken sausages, eggs, dairy in a pinch, and soda. Usually at 3am when I find I'm awake and am no longer feeling creative on things to do. Most groceries assume that you want to work there, scan all your items, bag them, and then pay all with no one there. Disturbing trend. I always wait for a person. There is often zero people in self checkout and sometimes someone yelling at me bringing this to my attention, and I still won't use it. This is also why I almost never go to the Hill for groceries. There's a few dregs who are always drunk and sloppy here, but mostly it's usually stoned Wallingford people buying munchies when I'm in there making sure I have something to cook for breakfast. Though only three stars, this is my preferred nocturnal produce and dairy run. read more

In the past when I have been in Wallingford I never had any reason to go to a grocery store. Already got my groceries another day, didn't have to make an emergency stop for anything. As I drove past the QFC I always thought it looked cramped and the parking lot was insufficient. When I finally stepped foot inside, I found my suspicions were correct. I have been in small grocery stores before but this one felt like I was in a miniature world. The aisles were narrow and I can't tell you how many people I plowed down who decided to stroll rather than move their asses. I believe I have a great sense of finding products on my own, there are signs all over for god's sake, yet I had trouble finding practically all the items I was searching for. Thankfully I found an employee who pointed me in the right direction. I was surprised by the amount of employees amongst the masses. Everywhere I turned there was someone in a blue shirt which is helpful. The parking lot is another nightmare. In front of the store is a small one way parking lot with maybe 20 spaces available. If that is full, which is almost always is, there is another bigger lot across the street. Between the pedestrians taking their time crossing the street or being completely oblivious to cars around them to the nightmare of trying to wait for a car to pull out of their spot while four cars line up behind you is nothing short of a road rage incident waiting to happen. I will try my best to either go to this QFC early in the morning or very late at night to avoid a lot of hassle. . read more

This grocery store makes me act either elderly or psychotic, depending on the day. Usually it's elderly -- I'm 28 years old, but somehow this brings me back to my childhood during the Depression. "99 cents for one lime?!" I shrieked recently. "I can get a lime for 55 cents at Safeway! Who in their right mind would spend a dollar on one lime?!" And then I purchased the damned thing because I was at QFC, not Safeway, and drat. I really did need a lime. The self checkout is what makes me psychotic. This store has one of the worst self checkout stations I've ever experienced. Twice I've gotten so frustrated that I ended up crying, and I invariably end up yellin' and cussin'. I slapped the screen once and it switched to Spanish on me. ¡Mierda! However, it's worth mentioning that there's a large selection of speciality sodas in the cold beverage case. Glass bottles of Dad's Root Beer, Frostie, Moxie, NuGrape, Mexican Coke, Mexican Pepsi, etc. for about a dollar apiece. Or you could buy a lime. read more

Went in here and was helped by a guy with a Gir tattoo!!! He was a HUGE help and knew where everything was located. Also went upstairs for some Starbucks. The ladies back there were SO sweet! Made my drink to perfection! GIVE THEM ALL A RAISE! :) read more

Ended up here on accident on the way to pick up the husband... probably won't return. As people have mentioned, the parking lot is small and hard to navigate. There's an overflow lot around the corner, but this isn't easy to notice. It's SMALL inside, with not a lot of produce and such. There's an upstairs area dedicated solely to the organic and healthy type foods, but some of it is non-intuitive such as having all of the sports/energy bars, and greeting cards?? The size alone makes this not a good option for me. read more

I don't shop at QFC. If I go there, it's because I either a) need some supplies for a sweet sweet science lab, or b) need a quick, cheap cup of coffee. This morning, I was jonesing for the latter. As this happens at least once a week, I never really thought it was review-worthy. Until today. I filled up my cup as usual, and while walking to the check out line, the most cheerful Manager Dude gave me one of the friendliest greetings I've ever experienced. Like, I was sure he actually CARED how I was and how my day was going. Then, so I wouldn't have to wait in line behind one customer, he directed me to the self-checkout kiosk where he basically did all the work for me. Then gave me another equally exuberant well-wishing as I was leaving, an extra spring in my step. Generally, the people who work here are really nice. I feel like their staff is more helpful than at, say, Safewayz, where they are all packed into their checkout stands dealing with the horrendous lines. But that just might be because if I go to QFC, it's before 7 in the morning, and when I go to Safewayz it's 6 pm--rush hour of the grocery world. Anyway, I still won't go to QFC for my weekly shopping, since they are consistently more expensive than "the other guys", but dang, they sure made my day today! read more

QFC is back to their old tricks with rotten meat. Tried to buy hamburger today, I always check the dates due to previous experience buying apparently re-labeled, and definitely rotten hamburger at this QFC. (You think I'd learn, but it's close). Today the hamburger had NO DATE AT ALL. So I asked the guy "how old is this?" He was like "uh the shelf life for that is three days after we open the box..." and I asked "so when did you open it?" and he was like "I really don't know." So, let's get this straight: I have no idea how old the meat is, and not even QFC has any idea how old the meat is, and it's grey, BUT they think I should buy it and they're offering it for sale? QFC has gone too fucking far this time. I am reporting them to the health department tomorrow. Their meat counter should be closed immediately. read more

It is a small store with little shelf space. To make it worse though, the shelf space they do have isn't restocked as often as it should be and there are commonly empty spaces left on the shelves. I've shopped here at all times of day and the week but it doesn't seem to matter. Also why is the health/natural food in a tiny little attic space squirreled away upstairs? This really ruins my sophisticated pose that I do as I contemplate whether to get the $15 or $20 small package of organic wholewheat thins. However, no one can see me do this at this store!! Bonus Seattle Fauna sighting on last visit: A cellphone douchebag who walked up and down every single isle of the store while talking loudly on the phone. He had no groceries or even a cart / basket! I was so enraged that I considered doing my wheat thin pose in front of him. read more

QFC finally ditched the idea of moving to Stone & 40th and shelled out for a fantastic remodel instead, complete with the old WALLINGFORD sign (I think there would have been a riot if they took it away). Of course they didn't enlarge the footprint at all, so they don't have all that much more space but everything is a lot cleaner and brighter now and they've added a Starbucks upstairs which I will probably never go to - hello, Fuel and Chocolati are just down the block. Other than the shiny new windows and floors, this is just another grocery store with good, but not great selection. It's a good place to go to pick up the stuff you couldn't find at Trader Joe's, and it does have an abnormally large natural/meatless section upstairs that I appreciate, although don't utilize often as it is more pricey. read more

This is a bizzare little QFC, it's not really a full, flagship location for this chain, is it? It's sort of like a cross between a "real" grocery store and a corner mom & pop convenience store that grew to the next stage. I say this due to the lack of certain specialty items and an overall generic selection. I'm sure most people will find 99% of what they're looking for and find it quickly, so I can't really complain for the most part But (here begins the annoying vegan tirade) what kind of grocery store these days doesn't carry TOFU? Are you freaking kidding me? The gelatinous bean curd that's the staple food of vegetarians and various ethnic cuisines alike...just not on the radar here? Huh? Forget your eerie Tofu Hot Dogs, Tofurkey lunch-meats, and soy cheeses you can find at ANY Fred Meyer in town, if you can't get TOFU on the shelves that stuff is a LONG way off at QFC Wallingford. Vegetarians: march your meatless asses over to PCC in Freemont, where your kind will feel more comfortable to begin with! (end tirade). Forgive me Wallingford QFC if you normally carry Tofu and were just out, or hid it somewhere non obvious, but I checked all over that store 3 times and gave up, although in all fairness I didn't ask for assistance which I should have. Speaking of assistance, the clerk I had was awesome and friendly, giving me a QFC membership discount by swiping a new QFC card for me and then dropping it into my bag, avoiding the annoying and omnipresent "would you like to sign up for our rewards card" pitch. That kind of personal neighborly service is reason enough for me to wander back in there some day, maybe to hunt for the elusive Tofudabeast. read more

Definitely a smaller footprint and smaller selection than most QFCs, but to be expected considering the lot it is placed on. I am here several times a week over lunch to do light shopping and the place is consistently neat and people are friendly. I especially love the woman at the self-checkout that is friendly to everyone and always sees me coming with my milk jugs that I need a manager code to get a refund. It's nice that she pays consistent attention and remembers me so I don't have to flag someone down. A nice neighborhood grocery store. read more

Produce- Section is small which means that all the stuff is crammed into close quarters. Misters + lack of breathing room = mucky produce. Most produce I've ever bought here has spoiled faster than produce that was in the fridge from prior visits to other grocers. Seafood- Exact same seafood at those huge Fred Meyer stores. Almost always previously frozen, which I guess is better than rotting and stinky fish. I swear by the fred meyer private label tangy cocktail sauce, which is available here. Natural loft- Great selection of bob's red mill products. Whatever sales-rep that finagled that wall o' grain pretty much sealed the deal for any of my visits to this grocery store. Beverage selection- Fair at best. Wine special of the week is generally not a"find," who picks this crap? Thankfully there's bottleworks on the same block. So if you do choose to visit this place for dinner ingredients I'd highly recommend a small detour. Staff- Anti-courteous. Will make fun of old ladies who cannot master the self-checkout, heck, I have troubles with that thing. I'll quote Jack Nicholson 'Maybe we could live without the wisecracks' Avoid this dingy store! read more

This QFC has always been a bit confusing. Post-remodel they moved their organic foods (and bulk) upstairs. I feel like there is such an overlap between premium brands & natural brands that its difficult to know where what you're looking for might be. I will say that their produce is gorgeous. It's often pretty pricey, but it doesn't spoil the day after purchase either. I prefer the apple selection at Whole Foods. They don't have quite as nice of a selection of fancy coffee as some of the other markets in town. The parking lot entrance/exit is a drag - I tend to park elsewhere & walk over. read more

I get more and more disappointed with this place every time I go here. My last visit was definitely the worst. I went in with my girlfriend to get a few items that we needed to make some fish tacos; one item was beer for the batter and the other was Tilapia (fish). Now QFC had both of these items, but when i was waiting to get the Tilapia I noticed the sign in the display case saying that this was farmed from China and I don't know if you have been paying attention to the news lately but farmed seafood from china = questionable. None the less I still bought it, thinking that QFC wouldn't sell me something THAT bad. When I got back home, I had a second thought and did a quick google search on Chinese Tilapia and after just clicking a few i realized that it was not recommended to eat or buy based on lots of pollution. Shame on you QFC. Now for the beer. As J.V. can attest, I also got denied by the 20 year old checkout boy because my 28 year old girlfriend didn't have her ID. Come on, this is located right in the middle of a very nice community. I had bought alcohol here many times before and have never gotten hassled. It seemed like this checker just likes to get his power trip from being able to become an arrogant prick and get away with it a couple times a day. One star for the cool blue Wallingford sign on top of the store and one star for being close to where i live and having 'basic' food available. I will go to PCC in Fremont or Safeway in Ballard if i need something better. I just go here if it is really necessary or in a serious time crunch. read more

First of all the employees here are great. I've never had anything but smiles and helpful attitudes. And I love that they have undercover agents to catch all the shoplifters. I saw them pummel a guy trying to steal some wine and it was simply awesome. But the prices are insane. LIke easily 25-40% higher than Fred Meyer....and the new design makes it impossible to find anything besides beer and fruit. read more

This is a great grocery store well stocked with many and varied foods. Don't forget the upstairs - That's where the Tofu is! it says this review is too short - If they want me to expound on the negative, which there was some. I could go on for pages but why not let me tell my opinions n without making a revue a pain in the arse to complete! I will never do another YELP review again. You make it waaaay too much trouble. read more

The remodel is okay. I can't say that I'm totally pleased. The checkouts are now way too close to the aisles and everything feels squished together. They upgraded many of their cheeses and deli selection. It still doesn't compare with the U-Village though. The thing that bugs me is that they want you to enter through the side door, and that's fine for all the people who drive cars and park in the lot on Wallingford Ave, but for those of us who walk to the store, it is much more convenient to enter on 45th. They have a sign that says Exit Only but I see a lot of people walk in that door (okay, I do it too.) It just seems like a poor layout. They could have gone without the Starbucks upstairs and really spread everything out more among the two floors. read more

I go here all the time since it is within walking distance. Your standard QFC, but very clean and with decent customer service. Prices are reasonable and if you use your card, you can get a discount at any Shell gas station for every $100 spent. There is a good fish and meat section. Fresh baked bakery items. A large organic section upstairs including a Starbucks. And....Top Pot donuts here for 79 cents! read more

Not my favorite QFC, but it will do in a pinch. There's actually plenty of parking in the lot across the street. I have never seen both parking lots completely full, even during peak times. (Since I live down the street, I'm here a decent number of times a month.) This is not the place to do your weekly staples shopping -- the aisles are narrow and the selection is limited. Maybe we shouldn't expect our corner grocery store to have 10 different brands of paper towels, but I prefer to get everything for the house in one place, and this particular QFC is not the spot for toiletries/household goods. The wine department is pretty decent and I can always find a new $20 bottle of something to check out. Of course, its proximity to Bottleworks means I'm probably not in QFC for alcohol. The best part of this store is the natural foods section upstairs, which is surprisingly large given the size of the rest of the store. There are a lot of items available for cheap in bulk, like flax seeds, which makes me very happy. They also have an organic produce selection and a wide variety of organic/natural processed foods (is that an oxymoron?) like Annie's shells and cheese. There is a nice older lady who works the coffee bar, and she never charges me the extra cent when their drip coffee comes to $2.01 after tax. For this, she gets a dollar tip. There is a woman who sits outside all the time holding a newspaper. I was told she is selling them, but I don't understand why or how. I rather got the impression that she was an anti-war nut, but she's extremely nice and never asks for money, so I'm neutral. Finally, it's hard to argue with a place that's open 24 hours :) read more

Called in a panic to get some fruit trays for a client meeting (after someone else had canceled the catering at the LAST SECOND) and a very nice lady in the deli pulled some off of the floor and held them in the deli until we could pick them up. THANK YOU! read more

This QFC location is mediocre at best. Perhaps it's still being renovated and I understand that it's smaller than most QFC's but they literally didn't have half of the items I wanted to buy on my grocery list. No Shirataki noodles (other locations have them), filet mignon, flavored pretzel chips (only had plain) or Ichiban brand instant ramen. The selection was horrible! The meat quality did not seem fresh; choice cuts that were a day old looked better than the cuts packaged on the most recent dates. Also, QFC is ridiculously expensive! The same orange juice carton typically two for $5 at Safeway was $4.49 "on sale" at QFC for just ONE carton! Aidell's sausage which is normally $4.99 at Safeway/Trader Joe's is $6.99 here?! I just happened to be in the area so I stopped for some groceries but I don't really plan on coming back... On a different note, I did buy a bouquet of flowers for $0.99 (normally $4.99; didn't know flowers go on sale!) and they were in great condition. Saw a gentlemen leave with several bouquets of the same flowers :) read more

I'm a consistent customer of qfc and have been to many of their stores. I used to live on mercer island and loved the local qfc. Always had an abundance of fresh produce, was clean and the meat/seafood section offered a steady selection. Unfortunately this location just falls short. Maybe they are just incredibly busy, but they seem to always be lacking in fresh fruit. It's like they don't restock often enough. Not a deal breaker, but would just like some consistency. My most recent purchase is what really brought my rating down. Went in to grab some ground beef for dinner that night. I always go with the no hormone option which comes prepackaged (not packed in store). I got home and opened the package and the meat smelled, I noticed it right away. I checked the date and it had expired 2 days prior!! And its not as if it was on sale, it was full priced on the shelf. I wonder what other areas are lacking in quality control at this store. Maybe it wouldn't have made me sick but still... It's unacceptable that they are selling old meat. My husband went back to the store to replace it and every package on the shelf was expired. Not ok! Please monitor your products. read more

I'm so old I remember when this place was a Food Giant (remember THAT, kids?) Oh how the space has transformed - most recently with the addition of a second story that houses a Starbucks. I'll admit this isn't one of my favorite QFCs, but as my only neighborhood supermarket, I've nothing to compare it with. It's not as huge as the one in U Village, doesn't carry as much in terms of hot foods - but if you like fried chicken, try to live around the area - the smell of greasy fried chicken/food fills the air surrounding this QFC every single day. Every. Single. Freakin'. Day. Though the selection is not as vast, there is a bit of everything and the produce is quite fresh. Ventured out to the baked goods behind the glass case today and, oh my - never thought a bagel could sub as a doorstop, but mine became petrified within 30 minutes of my purchasing it. On the other hand, the staff is always pretty nice and friendly. Had the lady manning the self-check outs today juggling vegetables. Nice to be happy at work, I suppose. Obviously, she didn't have the blueberry bagel. read more

Since moving up to Seattle, everyone has told me how much more expensive QFC is from Safeway. However, QFC is open 24 hours and is much more convenient if you're looking for a lot of local produce. The sections are all laid out nicely and if you need any spice or flour or grain in bulk, just go upstairs to the natural foods section and you can make a bag of how ever much you need. I've never noticed any huge difference in price and the rewards for gas is an added bonus! The deli and sushi sections are amazing! The sandwiches are great and for grocery store sushi, this is my go to place for that kind of thing. read more

If it wasn't for the very poor parking situation, it would be an average QFC, no better or worse than others. Yet it is indeed the parking that makes this location suck. Not only will it take a while for you to park, you will also have to hand carry your groceries - unless you are in the mood for taking your cart across the street. On a positive note, their selection of organic produce is rather good and I've seen quite a few specials with very nice prices (like, organic fuji apples $1 a pound). As a final verdict, I'd say go somewhere else if you can. There's nothing about this QFC that makes it worthwhile. read more

Consistently great staff saves this place from the pile of mediocrity. It's a small store and I sometimes question the ways in which they parse down their stock (no cookie cutters at Christmas? really?). Their selection of fresh meats and seafood is pretty limited and if I'm ever out for serious shopping I always ditch this place in favor of the U-district QFC which is a true food emporium. But I keep coming back to QFC Wallingford because dangit, those employees are way too nice. I work extremely odd hours and so this place rarely sees me before 1 a.m or after 12 p.m but the night crew is gracious and friendly to a fault. The manager in particular is a pleasure to deal with. Now if only they'd fix that sign. At last check, the unlit letters outnumbered the lit ones. read more

I am really happy with this QFC's service and helpfulness. I had to call customer service for an issue and the manager/staff were all very helpful and didn't even question anything or doubt me which always makes it easy. I got a coupon back, everything was straightforward, delightful, and I didnt even have to show/proove anything with a receipt. Less headache for me and easy easy process!! I've also forgotten my QFC card before and they were more than happy to swipe a guest card of their own and even suggest giving me a new one. They also told me to register my phone number with the card online so that I can just give my phone number next time. Will do! Of course, food samples are always a plus and I love their quarter back savings program right now! YAY free food!! read more

I wish they would undo the remodel, it's really lousy. It irks me every time I go there -- which is a lot since I live nearby. The produce area is so cramped that if you have a cart you basically have to wait for anyone else with a cart to clear out of the aisle before trying to get through. It's hard to understand where all the space went. It seems like the only thing they added to the main floor is a bigger deli & more beer. My other wish is that they would carry naan. On the positive side, the employees are nice, it's clean, prices are average & they have a natural food section. read more

I've been back a few times in recent years and I'll appropriately update this to 3 stars. Still pretty confusing organization. But I've had some much better employees take care of me (tho some rude ones occasionally as well). I just moved in nearby and I think this is a fine grocery store... it has the food I want, for the most part, and is very close. Yay. That said... yesterday while I was shopping in the produce section an employee to my left was stocking lettuce or some such. Anyway, his cart bumped in to the tongs that customers use to grab the loose pre-washed salad mixes. I noticed them hit the floor, and saw that he had too. After a couple moments he picked them up, looked side to side (at this point I was almost exactly behind him, so I guess he didn't see me), and put them back as if they hadn't been lying on the ground for a minute. Yuck. Is this shocking for a mid-level grocery store? Not really, no. Is this something people should be aware of so they know not to buy pre-washed salad mix? Yeah, get the clamshell stuff! read more

Ever notice how QFC stores all look the same? This one is very similar to the other ones I've been in. Location: On 45th & Wallingford it's on the way to somewhere. Parking: Yes the parking is fairly standard for a grocery store. Service: There are a couple of hotties who work there. Eye candy is a plus in my book. Quality: I think what I like is that upstairs is a nicely presented natural foods section. Return?: Ya if I'm on my way through Wallingford to somewhere else and I need something. read more

Location, Location, Location... And that's about the only thing this store has going for it. The positive side of having such a small size is it's pretty easy to navigate and the lines don't get too bad. So, if you're looking for essentials you can get in and out quite easily. Don't bother trying to park in the front lot. Hit the side, and approach/exit from the North in order to avoid the massive clusterfuck of pedestrian walkway, main parking lot, and weird intersection. read more

QFC is OKAY. Three stars because it's fairly close to my apartment and has a decent selection of fresh produce, meats, and anything else you would usually get from a neighborhood grocery store. For the most part, the prices are fairly similar to what you would find at Safeway, but higher than at Costco or Walmart (which is to be expected). Here's an example -- $1.59 for a can of chicken noodle soup. I could have sworn these cans of chicken broth and noodles are usually less in California, but if this is the Seattle standard then I guess it's reasonable. Would I come here again? Yes for the reasons mentioned above. Tip: There are a very limited amount of parking spaces in front of the store (~10). There is, however, free parking in the streets around the area so it's not too big of a deal unless it's raining...like today. read more

I love shopping at this store. It's small, so everything is pretty close together. But I wouldn't buy any meat products here for two reasons. 1. I have walked by the department a few times during a visit and seen the same rack of meat uncovered just sitting out in the open. And 2. It is almost impossible to get someone from the meat department to actually pay attention to you and help you. Usually the seafood person is nice enough to help someone out. The deli food is always good in my opinion, and the bakery always has good donuts! Cashiers are pretty pleasant, and in have only had a couple issues with line lengths here.. Generally a nice environment. read more

5 stars for the majority of the excellent staff here. There could be a star lost for the grumpy baker, but I've not seen her lately. The other 2 bakers are super talented and sweet. Its the QFC, I mean its a big chain, it doesn't wow me but the place is really so much better after the remodel a year or so ago. Groceries are groceries right? Well most of the time, the QFC has a wide variety the prices are more expensive than say Safeway. The Good: I like their Meat and Seafood Selection the most. I'm not going here to buy bulk chicken but a couple of steaks, or some salmon and shrimp, yes please. The steaks are usually really good quality with nice marbling. The cheese and Beer selection are great too. I also like their Produce, every time I'm there, one or two Employees are freshening up the produce section, that equals good turnover and selection. Finally the Employees, They all are very helpful and nice. Happy Employees = Happy Customers. The Bad: I'm not impressed with the Bakery section, I like the Essential Baking Company they make great bread, but this QFC has a way too small in house bakery. Wine, they have a fairly nice selection of wines, but its cramped and the upper shelves have the heaters blowing directly on them. YIKES! The Ugly: there is really one problem that is around the QFC in Wallingford, but its not QFC's fault at all. There are numerous beggars and panhandlers outside the QFC, rarely are they pushy and agressive but on occasion I have seen some bad ones. Its the Neighborhood Supermarket, its got a huge Neon sign. Its convenient and I've had good experiences there. read more
