We spent a huge amount of time and effort, researching different cabinetry companies in order to find the right match for us. It became clear as we researched that there is a big dividing line within the cabinetry industry. Most typically there are guys who have table saws, and tape measures and they proceed to chop up wood and nail it together. However, a more recent development in the cabinetry business is what we were looking for. The most advanced companies come out, take measurements of the room and then design the cabinetry on a three dimensional computer system. This provides a way of essentially seeing what you're going to create before you even make one bit of sawdust. Once an optimized design is finalized, the wood parts are cut up and drilled by computer controlled machines, that very precisely control the dimensions of the wood parts to within only a few thousands of an inch. At that point the wood panels are simply put together with very little effort and essentially no corrective measures being needed. The result is a cabinet assembly that comes out essentially perfect. All drawers are precisely in line, everything fits pretty much perfectly. And this is how Haynes cabinetry operates. Along with Haynes, using the most advanced methods of creating cabinetry, throughout our project, they continually displayed a most proactive approach to dealing with us. At no point during the project, did we ever have to ask to have something done a second time. Everything we asked was taken care of, and taken care of with a smile. It was as if we were having friends that we've known for years come over and perform this work, they were amazing! Looking back at our home remodel, it is clear that Haynes cabinetry led the pack with regards to comparing them with the other contractors that we had involved in our project. Adrian was a nice young gentleman that helped me pick it out the tile. I already had a quote from a contractor that had come to my place, looked at the floor, and informed him of this. I showed him the quote. He asked, "would you do business with us if we could do it for less?" My response, "what would that look like?" He calls Esther and works the numbers. I figure I'd go with their small business because I had picked a beautiful porcelain tile in 24x48 size to have less grout lines- a recommendation by Adrian. It was more expensive. He gave me an invoice of which I paid half (install, tile, haul away/demo) via Zelle to the mysterious Esther and he said he would call me about installation. I didn't hear from him and tried calling the shop. Do not even try. The mailbox is full. I sent a message to Esther since I had her direct number to Zelle her, and she said the workers would come in on a Thursday between 8:30-9:00 am. Great! 9:00 am came around and they aren't here. Instead I get a call that the tile I had partly paid for is not in stock in the size ordered. That's funny. Adrian had confirmed that it was in stock just two days prior. "Do I approve of the 12x24" Esther asks? "I approve" I say " but shouldn't the price be adjusted?" According to Esther I would get a credit. Cool. She gave me two different prices for the 12x24 new tile. Huh? What is the new price? Esther then texts me that the contractor who arrived late to my home (and wanted to leave when they had to wait for me) is now adding $450 (demolition/haul away) to my original invoice because they had to remove the bamboo floors. Cue the tranza/dodginess because I'm a woman and I must not know when someone is trying to take advantage of me. I inform her that I showed Adrian a picture of my 70sq. foot kitchen and told him they were bamboo floors. Adrian specified that an additional charge of $100.00 would only be added if the floor under the bamboo wasn't cement. My mom, whom I had just picked up from chemo, was with me, and she can verify. I confirmed with the contractor when he was at my house, "it's cement, right?" He said "yes." I email Adrian at the email address provided on the invoice to clarify. No response over email. According to Esther, "Adrian doesn't know about tile removal." Umm, ok. Then please don't have him make invoices? He was really nice, too and seemed pretty knowledgeable to me. The price was upped because a one day job turned into a 1 and 1/2 day job because they were late and were now working with smaller tile. According to the contractor, they were late because the tile place took too long. Ok, not sure why should I be charged for that? The work gets done, the floor is beautiful. Esther asks me to Zelle her the payment for the additonal charge minus the credit and to pay the workers the balance in person. Huh?! Umm, no. Can I please get an updated itemized invoice? I ask her more than 4 times over text and email. I talk to Esther over the phone and ask for an updated itemized invoice again. She says the final balance is "pretty clear." How? The original prices and quote have been modified. I had already paid half of the original invoice with the more expensive tile/tax + the extra charge that I never agreed to but thought the workers should get paid for a job well done. "Can I get an updated itemized invoice?" She says she will send it. I wait for it. *crickets* I get a call a couple days later that she's waiting for my payment. "I would happily remit payment once I get an updated itemized invoice." ... "I would feel more comfortable sending a payment with an updated invoice." You can email me @... or text it to me. No invoice again. I go in good faith in person, to the store to get this cleared up. Please tell me why it took roughly 7 invoices to do that? I won't get into the weeds of the in-person interaction but obviously things weren't transparent from the get. Adrian, the person I did business with, was not there. I ended up paying much more than what I was originally quoted but not the "balance" that Esther was pressuring me to pay. Their tile prices are double than what they are at Home Depot but this usually happens at small businesses. I wish I could say my experience was different but sadly it wasn't. Bait and switch is fraud according to the Better Business Bureau so please be aware that this might happen here because Esther is not physically present at the establishment (you deal with many other people) yet you must remit payment to her.
