First time ever to one of these and we tested our problem solving abilities. We did the puzzle where we had to find the captain's heart. Had the chest in my hand working out the combination to that last lock when the time ran out. Turned out that there was a malfunction in the armor and knife connection. So we were trying to descramble the wrong letters. In my opinion that negates the loss. I had a blast anyways. Only advice is to stay calm. read more

Lots of fun and great for Team Building! Brought my "new" team here for a team building experience and Puzzle Effect did not disappoint. Sam was great, very friendly and made us feel so welcome. We worked in two groups and ended up coming together once one team completed the challenge and came over to help the others complete theirs. Perfect reflection of a how a growing team should be. I'd definitely recommend them for small corporate groups looking for something fun to do to help a new team start working together (or a "seasoned" team have some fun). We were all in from out of town and I contemplated coming back to do another room in a smaller group - next time, for sure. Thanks Sam and Puzzle Effect for making our experience so memorable. This place is a lot of fun, in fact, it is our second visit. We felt the puzzles were fun and hard but also fair. What a great way to spend the afternoon. We've been coming here for years and the last two times we been here has been a bad experience. Most recently today, we received zero clues throughout the entire process. We did really well the first two rooms but then got stuck in the third room and we did not get any help at all. We weren't making any progress and kept trying to figure out what was going on and looks like the lasers were malfunctioning because one of the hidden doors opened for no reason. Then in the last room, we were able to get out but only because we worked together. We paid a total of $261 and part or the experience is to get clues when we've been stuck for awhile. The fact that we didn't get not 1 the whole hour we were there is extremely disappointing and takes away from the experience. Will not return here again as this is already the second time we are ignored for things malfunction and causing additional time to be wasted. read more

A really great place for a group activity! We went for our book club meet up because they have a book shop themed game called Grim Stacks and we thought it was fitting! Clues came in as we needed them or when they felt that we were in the completely wrong direction which was nice so we wouldn't waste time. We ended up solving it with only a few seconds to spare. I had been to an escape room before but this one was a little different as they allowed you to bring your stuff in with you and you could leave the room if you needed to. We really enjoyed it and were thinking of doing it again in the near future! read more

I went to visit my freshman son at Cal Poly SLO this past weekend and wanted something to do to get him off campus and have some bonding time. This ended up being the best part of our weekend. We did one of the rooms on Friday night and had so much fun that we came back on Saturday to do a more challenging room. Aiden definitely added to this positive experience and we were so happy he was there again on Saturday. The puzzles are challenging and hints are available if needed. The experience was a 10 out of 10 for the creativity on the puzzles, the availability of help if needed, and the employee who clearly loves his job that added to our positive and fun experience. This was fun and I might come again, but to me it's average for an escape room. In my belief a good escape room should not have any useless features or items there intended to throw you off. The escape room I did here did not meet this principle. Additionally some of the "puzzles" require pretty good reflexes or memory even if you know what to be looking for. As a result, while this is fun there are better escape rooms out there. read more

We have never done an Escape room in Arizona and we found this one super last minute and decided to give it a shot for our friend's birthday. It was SO much fun. We arrived 20 minutes late due to police shutting down our neighborhood and Heather and Mario were incredibly understanding and still gave us the full hour of time, which they definitely did not have to do. They were so helpful and even gave us a few extra minutes of time because we were so close to solving the escape room and WE DID IT! We had SO much fun and we will 100% come back here again. Very reasonably priced and totally worth it! I also really appreciated that this location doesn't lock you in the room. I had a prior experience at an escape in London and ended up throwing up in the escape room because I couldn't get out in time lol. So it was comforting knowing we could leave for the bathroom or for whatever at any point in time. We did the Curse of the Emerald Sea room which was labeled as one of the harder ones. They gave us hints throughout the hour to help us succeed. I can't wait to start planning our next escape adventure!! Huge shoutout again to Heather and Mario for their generosity and making this all happen despite our tardiness. While it was disappointing to lose between 3-10 minutes on one of the machines not working (they added time but definitely less than the issue lasted, probably due to scheduling which I understand), and disappointing that we did not in fact finish, it was fun. My partner and I love Escape rooms so it's easy to review Escape Rooms since we've done 30+ of them so far. Puzzle Effect has some good quality games and enjoyed our first game with them but sadly the quality and enjoyability of our second room left an average rating of a 4 star (4.25, but we have to round down at this point). Either way, thanks Eric as our game master and being very accomodating and super welcoming and enjoyable! Games: - Amnesia: Ranked 8/10 in difficulty with is their second hardest room. There are a good number of unique puzzles in this room and I appreciated that you're pretty engaged the whole time. I've been in really hard rooms so I'd rank it 7/10 but WE GOT OUT with two people and two basic hints. I loved all the sensory input and thought put into this room. I'd rank it in my top 20 of rooms I've been in. I think Jan 2023's top time is 16 minutes remaining, we got out with 9 minutes remaining with two players. This is not normal for us, but I think the puzzles made sense so it made it much more enjoyable. - Curse On The Emerald Seas: Ranked 9/10 difficulty, I do have to say that the puzzles in this one were a tad more challenging than Amnesia. the production quality is not as tidy and up-to-date as the Amnesia room (which sadly bumped down the star rating to a four--oh and the malfunction that happened with the picture frame lol) and some of the puzzles were unnecessarily difficult, but it all worked together in the end. We did ask for more hints than Amnesia, but also because a couple of them were just bonkers without some explanation. I personally dont rank this room that high in terms of enjoyability, but it was a challenge! 7.5/10 difficulty IMO. We got out with 4.5 minutes to spare but that's after having several hints and only two people. Pros: - Good production quality but not superb--hence the star reduction. Some rooms i've been in are pretty grimey and underwhelming, but this one had some good production value. - Unlimited hints. I'm always a fan of this option since my partner and I have one goal = GONMW (get out no matter what). That's not a real acronym. - Weekday discounts (5$ per player) M-Th. 20% return visit if booked after your game. - Private games!! - Decent prices! Some places make things ubsurdly too expensive. Cons: - Not all rooms are prestine in their quality. Curse On The Emerald Seas had a bit more grimey factor to it which I wasnt a fan of. Oh, and there was a malfunction at one point but that's not a HUGE deal, but was an ever so slight disappointment. Plus you can tell some of the props were dated. - Lots of Lock and Key type puzzles which are sadly overdone in too many rooms. Wish there were some wow factors with how some of the puzzles were created but most were decent. I'm glad there are fun escape rooms in AZ. Puzzle Effect, thank you for allowing us to enjoy two fun games. My goal is to maybe try out all of your games but we shall see! This was so much fun! We went here for a work going away party, there were 6 of us and we had a blast. We were able to get out with three minutes left and we were cutting it close! There were so many unique elements, the clues were fun and tough enough to give us a challenge but not so insane that when we figured them out we were like that makes sense. The one we did was the bookstore one and loved it. This is a great team building activity and would be fun for any group type really! The person who got us started did a great job explaining everything and I highly recommend this activity if you haven't done one! read more

Me and my siblings came here yesterday. We did the curse on the emerald sea and it was awesome! This was the first time any of us have tried an escape room and it was so much fun. This place is definitely up there as one of the better escape rooms to do in the Valley. We did 2 rooms here; The Path and Curse on the Emerald Sea. We did Curse first, and the theme here is abandoned pirate ship. The puzzles were lock-and-key in style, with a couple of fun twists on some more traditional puzzles. We made it with around 20 seconds left, which had my anxiety soaring lmao. We then did the Path, which is a cursed temple themed room. It was beautifully put together, and the puzzles were based on placing things correctly in order to activate/open something else. The puzzles in this room were definitely more tricky, especially the first and last puzzle. Our GM, India, was absolutely lovely and really made sure we had a good time. Both rooms had incredible theming, the Path a bit more so than the Curse. Our group definitely agreed that the Path was for sure the more difficult room, although the website says otherwise. read more

I've only done one other escape room, and I really think the fun is in the people you bring with you in your party to attempt the escape. The theme "Rescue" was the one I did with a group of very bright 30ish year-olds. Before moving to the room, the attendant went over the necessary information that we needed, we signed the waivers, and then moved to the room. This was truly great fun finding all of the clues and rescuing the girl! This room has an escape rating of 10%, so we were lucky to have escaped! I'm not sure if the actual theme is that important, but since I'm not an expert at these, maybe it does matter. The room itself was very well designed and a ton of fun. You will definitely have a grand time even if you don't escape the room. read more
