There are scattered tables both inside and outside, with a large space in the middle that looks like it is set up for events, specifically those involving dancing, an impression that was reinforced by the blaring folk music and karaoke machine. The market closes at 8:00 PM, so things were fairly quiet when we got there around this time on a cold Saturday evening. The waitress/bartender was super nice and $30 got us each a Michelada and three ceviche tostadas topped with assorted seafood. The Michelada was excellent and was everything such a drink should be: tangy, silky, smooth, and refreshing with a lip-puckering tajin rim. Oh and it happened to be loaded with cucumbers interspersed with fat and juicy cocktail shrimp. The ceviche was cold and fresh, and the thin tostadas were nothing short of an engineering marvel given that they did not snap or get soggy despite the generous toppings (seafood, tomatoes, onions, a TON of avocado). In order of quality, the octopus wins over the shrimp wins over the white fish, though all were quite good. Highly recommend a visit to Mariscos Popeye if you're looking to be transported to coastal Mexico without leaving the urban confines of the loop.

Every time my parents come to visit they request to come here! I shop often at the bodega next door (see my review for Granel) and I was starving one day after grabbing all of my spices. I checked this place on Yelp and noticed it's been around for over 40 years. That was good enough for me! Imagine freshly fried fish (corn or flour available!) like you're at the family cookout served with a side of fried rice from your favorite Chinese restaurant! All for less than $15! I order the same combo every time, the two pieces of bass cornmeal battered, 5 shrimp and the fried rice. I'm not a fan of ceviche but my homegirl and her mom ordered it and said it was amazing! The three of us ate for less than $50! Left full and content. If you find yourself in this area and you like fresh fried fish, this place does not miss!!!

The service was great--the staff was friendly, attentive, and made sure everything arrived hot and fresh. As for the food, the seafood is tasty and seasoned perfectly; the fried shrimp and fish had a great crunch, and the shrimp fried rice is a must-try. The best part is that everything is reasonably priced for the generous portions you get. It's a reliable, "no-frills" staple in Houston that stays true to its roots. I'll definitely go back!

I'm from San Antonio and was really hoping for some top-tier seafood while visiting Baytown…read moreespecially considering we're literally in Baytown, a place you'd expect fresh and flavorful seafood. We were seated immediately on a Saturday night, which was a huge plus. The vibe was lively and our server was friendly and accommodating throughout the evening. Unfortunately, the food just didn't live up to expectations. We started with the calamari, which arrived cold and clearly not fresh. We sent it back and were brought a "fresh" order... but it still tasted old. Just not appetizing. My fries also had to be sent back cold and tasted like they'd been sitting for a while. Something else to note: gratuity is already included, but the receipt also includes a line for "additional gratuity" that isn't clearly explained. It feels a bit misleading, and I'm not a fan of that. Overall, it wasn't the worst dining experience, but I've had much better seafood back home in San Antonio. Solid service, but the food just didn't deliver.

The food is always great. Everything from their apps to just their regular meals. Didn't get any good pics today but . Today I tried their coconut shrimp and it was perfect! Of course you can't skip their micheladas and their #1 always hits the spot. Oh they have this green salsa that's delicious that only comes with their empanadas but I'm sure if you ask nicely they give you a bit to sample.

The bacon was crispy just how I like it. The fish and fries were just made and were hot and crispy. I called in the order ahead of time, and when I arrived, the owners were preparing my order. Cons, not much of a sitting area only two bench tables available. This place is located in a rough area and there's lots of homeless people. Overall, by far one of the best burger joints I've been to.

Walk up to the window and the gentleman asked my order and I decided on the 3 fish, 6 shrimp, sub fried rice instead of fries. I then asked for my fish to be catfish, he stated "no". I asked my fish to be trout, he stated "no". I then asked what fish do you have? He answered "Tilapia". I asked again, so no other fish than tilapia? He answered "nope". So I went ahead with my order and 10 minutes later its out and I head back to the office. In route, I decide to try a shrimp and a piece of fish and immediately knew....I wasted $15. The shrimp, despite the medium/large tail size were small, rubbery and the lack of shrimp size made up for with extra batter. The fish filet were very egg-y although they seemed to be store bought battered frozen. I decided to wait until I got to the office to try to finish the rest. Upon arrival, took a few pics and tried the fish and shrimp again and just couldn't. I tossed it to the trash and ate the fried rice. The mom and pop were very nice (1 star) but the seafood was not. Maybe the burgers or chicken wings are why google maps reviewers have them at 4.5 stars???. FYI...as I sit here typing this review 30 mins later...I'm in need of gum due to this film/taste I have in my mouth from the fish/shrimp :(
