Some of the manicurists are wonderful , some are terrible but more often than not I got stuck with the terrible ones and for that reason I would not recommend them nor will I return . My gel manicure had bubbles 3 times and was sloppy to say the least. Not impressed , never really on time either nor very friendly overall just not good . Love this place! Very presentable, clean, modern and friendly. I am very picky with my nails and I don't like when they don't come as close to the cuticle for mani and pedi. My nails grow fast, so when that happens, in 2-3 days my nails look like they are 2 weeks old. Vivian did an excellent job! She came very close to my cuticles and I love how well she did her job! Have been here twice for gel mani and pedi and have had awesome results both times. Unfortunately, I'm not giving it 5 stars because the last time I went, one of the staff members pointed at my tattoos (I have two sleeves) and commented to another patron loudly, "how weird" and then began shaking her head and telling the other patron how she would "never do that." Not only is this rude and ignorant behavior, but it's also incredibly anathema to the "spa" experience they attempt to provide. I don't pay for services so I can be ridiculed about my tattoos. So while my first two experiences here were great...I was super super disappointed this last time. One of my nails broke between manicures it was just slightly shorter than the rest-hardly noticeable pointer finger on my right hand. I asked Tracy to even all of my nails out with a bit of filing...the first mistake is that she started cutting my nails-I should have stopped her but I thought maybe my nails had grown out more than I thought...after cutting and shaping I took a look at my nails...I was astonished. I commented to her that now all of my nails were different lengths and differed shapes-see image. I asked her to even them out and she started in on my left ring finger i abruptly pulled my hand away as that was the one that she already butchered and was obviously already shorter than the rest. I told her to stop and just paint them-I had prior to that spoke with another woman who works there and showed her the hack job and she tried to communicate the issue but obviously fell short. Also would come up with random charges like suggest a nail shape (coffin) then after they file it that way, they tell me it's a $5 charge for coffin shape... definitely the worst manicure i've gotten from any nail salon in newton after having been to multiple different salons in newton. the experience being there itself wasn't horrible as the salon is kept very clean and is visually appealing. the nail technicians are nice enough, although the receptionists are a bit awkward. what really compels me to leave a 1 star review is the fact that my gel manicure began to seriously chip and peel at the cuticle only ONE week after my visit. this led to my hair always getting caught in my nails (which is super annoying) and my pinky nail almost ENTIRELY peeling off 1.5 weeks after getting them done! as someone who takes good care of my nails, is always conscious of avoiding things that could damage them, and is a regular when it comes to handling gel nails, i can always go 4-5 weeks with gel until i begin to experience noticeable chipping/peeling. the fact that i always take such good care of my nails yet they are severely chipping/peeling after ONE week means that the manicure was poorly applied and not my fault -- it's pureluxe's. and to top it off, the price of a gel manicure here is slightly more expensive than other salons i have been to in newton, as it is $35 as opposed to $30. not a huge deal but to pay $5 more for a service that is poor is something that adds to the disappointment of this salon. will not be coming back. read more

I've come here quite a few times now, always for dip powder and a classic pedicure. Inside is very clean and nicely furnished, which makes the experience very relaxing. In terms of service, it's pretty inconsistent from one employee to the next when it comes down to the dip powder. A lot of the time, the nail shape is inconsistent, the powder isn't applied to the full nail, or the filing before the top coat is uneven. Even though these are issues that would probably only stand out to me since I'm always looking at my hands, I would like more attention to detail considering the process and price of dip powder application compared to other services. However, the employees are always kind and accommodating! It does get quite busy, so I'd recommend making an appointment beforehand if you're looking for something that'll be taking longer than a usual mani-pedi! read more

Not good. I wear gel polish and had it done here every two to three weeks for a couple of appointments. Lynn/Lien does a great job, if you can get her. However, just because you have an appointment with her doesn't mean you will get her for reasons I'm about to explain. I booked online for a 9 AM appointment with Lien. I usually would prefer not to be out of bed early on a Saturday for a nail appointment, but it was her only available appointment until Tuesday. Got to the salon 10 minutes early. (I'm in Mass for law school but I know salon owners where I'm originally from and being late really messes up the books, so I make a strong effort to be courteous.) The young woman who is usually the salon's receptionist told me that Lien was overbooked. (The salon opens at 9 AM and I was the first customer there.) She asked if it was okay for her to do my nails instead. I said okay. Huge mistake! You get 45 minutes in the chair here...whether your nail technician has to constantly break to answer the salon's phone or not. The interruptions and lack of time spent on my nails really showed. Every nail had deep bumps and dents in the polish. The polish on many nails was quite uneven. I could have done a better job myself, and I'm not great at painting my own nails. I am wondering if the person who did my nails is even a licensed nail technician. The person who got my spot with Lien showed up 20 minutes late and just got a regular mani. She said she and her friend, who reportedly also comes to the salon, have been spending a lot of time away, so they hadn't been in. So, you backburnered a loyal customer of color for an inconsistent white customer. On top of that, you did a TERRIBLE job with my manicure and thought, what? That I wouldn't notice or I would be completely happy with a truly ghetto job? I had a hair appointment at another salon afterward and that salon was kind enough to redo my nails at no extra charge. Just avoid. My impression is that they are used to taking care of a small clientele of posers and will do a nice job on everyone else only if they have the time. read more

Oh my god, do not go here. I sat down and put my feet in the water to begin my pedicure and everything seemed ok. The lady doing my pedicure had difficulty with the tub. It started shooting water, and making a strange noise. She worked on it and finally got it to work correctly but was clearly frustrated. She sat down and started taking the polish off my toenails. She hadn't even made her way to all 5 toes before she jumped up, and left to find another chair. She came back with an identical chair and took the rest of the polish off the first foot. Then she grabbed a file and aggressively started filing my toenails and promptly cut me. I yelled out because it really hurt and began bleeding. She jumped up and left again. I figured that this appointment was not going well so I began putting my shoes on to leave. The woman comes back with some green gel in a clear bottle. I told her not to put anything on me but she grabbed my toe and did anyway. I again told her again I didn't want her to put anything on me and that I was just going to leave. Then she hurried away again while I got my things together and shoes on with my toe still bleeding. I asked for a bandaid at the front desk but no one seemed to have one until another gal was digging through her own pocketbook to find one. In the age of COVID-19, I will pass. Is there not any sanitary first aid protocol here? No one else said a word to me on the way out. This was the worst experience for me at any salon ever. It's clear they will allow any untrained or inexperienced person to perform at least a pedicure. read more

Purchased a Groupon for a Brazilian, scheduled an appointment next day immediately after work. My esthetician was amazing. Ask for Lynn for your Brazilian. I typically never have cash, so I didn't have money for a tip with my Groupon. She was so great, I didn't use my Groupon that visit. I paid for visit and tip. The worst waxing experience I've ever had. I found this salon on Groupon, and I decided to give it a try. I went in for a Brazilian wax. I don't believe the woman who waxed me ever gave me her name. Nevertheless, she did a terrible job. She left so many hairs behind, even after picking up a pair of tweezers and plucking hairs out one by one! She mentioned my hair was thick and I agree, but that's no excuse. A day or two after my appointment I noticed one area was particularly painful and red, almost burn like. It has now scabbed over and started to peel. I don't know if that's a result of the wax they used, her lack of care, or simply going over one area multiple times and ripping away my skin, but I've never had this happen to me before. I got my nails dipped here. On the website they say to expect 50min, when I went it took closer to 25. It could tell they were rushing and my nails looked it as well. To start they didn't even prepare my nails, just a quick file. They came out uneven and lopsided. Half of my nails are very thick in product while the others are a nice thin coat. The nail tech didn't even file a straight edge across. They were in such a rush they cut my finger with a mechanical file and just ignored it. Needless to say I was hoping to get a nice manicure that would last me a few weeks. In reality I got a rush job that will now cost me more to fix. The other nail techs are very unprofessional. The girl getting her nails done next to me didn't like her color so they had to start over. Her tech gave her some unclear instructions and as she walked around confused trying to illicit some direction her tech and the other ones started making fun of her. The salon is very nice, clean and modern, but the second time I went here I had a bad experience. When I got my pedicure everything was fine except that the salon employee didn't really massage my feet and it felt a bit rushed which was okay. When I moved to the other section of the salon to get my manicure the employee didn't massage my hands, didn't give me a hot towel for my hands, did a very SLOPPY job. She was rushing and didn't even bother to clean off the extra nail polish that had gotten on the surrounding nail area. There were also a lot of air bubbles in it. After sitting under a fan to let the nails dry the employee, Kathy, never came back to check on me. Instead a different employee who was skillfull and nice came to check on the person I had gone with and had to help put on the finishing polish. I did not see the employee who helped me until it was time to pay and give a tip, you could see by the way she magically appeared once we were ready to tip that she only came for the money. It was a very negative experience and the fact that she DIDN"T ACKNOWLEDGE HER MISTAKE or fix it made it worse. I left the salon looking LIKE A CHILD PAINTED MY NAILS since there was still polish on my hand that she hadn't wiped off and the edges were done poorly. read more

Kenny is the SNS Dip master! I typically head to PureLuxe every three weeks to get my nails done and always make my appointment with Kenny. The reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because of price as well as my experience with the two pedicures I have gotten. They were really good, but not really great. One reason I spend money on a pedicure is for the massage - I cannot remember the name of my tech but after asking three times for a bit more pressure, I gave up. I've been to this salon at least 10 times, and each time I love it. It's on the pricier side, but I was always willing to pay. I moved so haven't been in a while, but I went back yesterday and had a terrible experience. Yes, they did stay open 30 extra minutes to finish my nails which I appreciate, but their service was below subpar. During my pedicure, the woman sprayed water all over my legs and the chair, to the point where I was soaking wet and had to sit like that for another hour. She also did my pedicure in a very Wrong order- filing my nails after the clear coat was on?? Assuming she was doing things her way, I didn't say anything. But then when we moved onto my fingernails- she scraped my old gel off with her own fingernails, cut my nails WAY too short, put a clear coat on, but used acetone to wipe it away before it had even been in the UV light for 30 seconds, and now my nails are dull, my cuticles are all ripped up, and I am an unhappy costumer. To top it off- they only take cash or Venmo. But it doesn't say that anywhere. I used to love this place, but only one or two specific workers can really do a good job it seems like. read more

Super clean, super friendly people- beautiful large space, with PLUGS so you can plug in your laptop or phone while being "beautified." Wonderful new option in Newton. All implements are used only once and then discarded. Now that Mini-Luxe has switched to only using its own nail polish, and has experienced a decline in service, I will be going to PureLuxe. Honestly, a fiasco from start to finish. First I called to be sure they had massage chairs for pedicures. Whoever I spoke to said yes when in fact they don't have massage chairs, they have uncomfortable benches. When my friend and I arrived we were shown to a bench with two pedicure stations. One station had a plexiglass shield, the other did not. Not sure how that makes things COVID safe. The person doing my pedicure ran the water for both of us and started my pedicure. My friend just sat there. After 20 minutes she asked if there was anyone to do her pedicure (we were scheduled for the same time). The water was cold. Although we had scheduled deluxe pedicures they never did anything to remove the dead skin or calluses from our feet. I tried to ask about it but the technicians just looked at us and shook their heads. We left with nicely polished nails on rough feet. Horrible. I get a pedicure every two weeks (NOT HERE). I was taking my friend for a pedicure near her home for her birthday. I WILL NEVER GO BACK! read more

Almost don't want to tell others about this place because it is such a gem of a place! I've tried probably every nail salon in the Newton area - and this is by far the best. Way more professional that all other one-off places (such as CoCo or the now closed Kim's etc), and way better service and results than Miniluxe, other high-end spots around the area. I have been getting gel for 2+ years and typically mine only last 7-10 days until they start to look real rough - well I got my nails done 3+ weeks ago and still NO CHIPPING WHATSOEVER it is UNREAL!!!!!!!! Was such a relaxing time there too also got a gel pedicure - also no chipping/looks fantastic still and ladies who work there so pleasant and price is definitely competitve for the area. Since moving to the area a year ago, I have been looking for a new nail salon. I'd been getting dip manicures for over a year, but was sad to find nowhere near me that offered both this service and a clean, luxurious space. Ultimately, I hadn't found anywhere that kept me coming back until I tried PureLuxe! The salon itself is GORGEOUS - spacious, comfortable waiting room, incredibly comfortable manicure chairs, a personal couch with outlets and cupholders for pedicures. The polish selection is excellent, and the service is even better. The entire staff is friendly and welcoming, they were able to fit my friend and I in on a Saturday with short notice, and I had an amazing experience with Lori (pedicure) and Annie (manicure). An extra bonus is that a specialty pedicure isn't prohibitively expensive - I had the lavender one at $45, and it was well worth it for the hot stone massage alone! Got a Brazilian and the waxer did an incomplete job. Went back hoping for a better experience, unfortunately another incomplete job.

No one was at the counter or even in view when I arrived. Waited about 5 minutes before I started walking around to find someone to help me, they were in a back room area.
