We recently joined Stafford Hills Club after touring four other gyms including the new Lake Oswego…read moreaquatic center which did not impress me but it was nice. After touring the gyms I came away with the impression that Stafford was by far the best gym in the area. The staff is superb and the gym and equipment are clean. None of that terrible "gym" smell that you often get at the gyms as they age. They also do an excellent job at making sure there aren't so many members in the gym that there are long wait times to use the equipment.

"A place where everybody knows your name... and you're always glad you came." [1]…read more My review is based on my membership of one year where I've consistently visited 4x/week. Beginning during the end stages of COVID restrictions, it was so nice to experience outdoor swimming, the hot tub, and social time with other members. Swimming is my main experience at the club so here is what you should know: * Six lane outdoor salt water pool that is open year round (I've done laps in the snow, sleet, and hail). * You can reserve four of the six lanes and it is very competitive to get times, especially during the warm weather months when you are competing for space with the swim team, swim lessons, and aqua aerobics classes. * The other two lanes are left open for first come first serve usage and swimmers are encouraged to share. * The outdoor hot tub is for 14+ over. I have only taken one yoga class at the club and all classes have you reserve your spot. If you cancel less than 12 hours in advance or are a no show, you are charged a $10 fee. Personally, I don't mind since the reservation system makes me accountable and if I don't have a reservation, I'm less likely to go workout. The club is a nice mix of serious athletes (I'm surrounded by masters swimmers and triathletes), retirees, and families. Prior to my membership, my teenage son was a member for two years and loved the weight room, sauna, and steam room. The club as been open for awhile and is definitely showing its age and is need of some maintenance upgrades in the pool area. That being said, I have been very happy with my membership here and the personal feel, literally being greet by name when entering and exiting, and the wonderful customer service. This club is very different from the large national chains, so to each their own. Definitely recommend a trial membership at this club as well as others in the area to see which is the best fit for you. [1] I am currently re-watching this classic sitcom and while not aging well in the post Me Too era, still good for a lot of laughs.

I like the instructors and facility was clean. Would have given 5 stars but I brought 2 of my LA friends here over the weekend. They're in town for our best friend's birthday. When we all checked in together the front desk told us, since they're not local they'd have to pay for the class. Fine, no problem at all. On the way out we were all talking with instructor Jessica and giving feedback etc, the front desk told us since we paid for the class today they'd comp them the next class. So my two friends signed up for the next day which I was also signed up for. When you're new to cyclebar it's pretty common for them to text and call you. My friends got texts the AM on day 2 class asking us how day 1 went and looking forward to seeing us that AM. We showed up and were informed all our spots were cancelled because we're from LA and there wouldn't be a free class. First, I paid for all my classes, a pack of 3 and a single so very odd that I would be cancelled. Second, if we're receiving text confirmations about our class 45mins before arriving, please don't cancel them on us when we actually arrive. Lastly, it's not about the money, we all paid and were happy to, but don't promise something and then change the tune when we show up. The whole encounter that day felt VERY bait and switch and made us feel unwelcome. As a result wouldn't go back to this location.

I joined in February and love this place. I've always hated gyms because of their heteronormativity…read moreand it's nice to work out in a space that feels safe for all. This is the only gym where I've been consistent and stayed consistent and in the four months I've been a member I've seen noticeable improvements in my musculature, core strength and stamina. I go for the classes. If you pay for the monthly membership all classes are included. I try to hit three a week. I hope to attend more open gym times in the future but for right now the evening classes work with my schedule. There's a couple things I could nitpick. I wish they were open all day on Saturday and Sunday. It makes more sense to be open half days on a weekday for those of us who work 9-5s. I think the powerlifting class should be limited to no more than 6 - 8 people given the equipment limitations. But overall I'm not here to be at the most resourced or state of the art gym. Place is important and I need to workout publicly in a space that's affirming and that's what I've found here. The trainers are great. Eloise is fantastic. She takes you seriously and provides good critique on form while also challenging you to improve. She has great bedside manner and I'm always happy to take her classes even if they kick my ass sometimes. Felicia is also fantastic and plays great music and I appreciate Kristen's chill energy during powerlifting. I love the get ups and hinges class most, followed by kettlebell 7. The conditioning class is sadistic and occasionally I'll go to test my progress. Last time one of the exercises included doing 1000 jump ropes. I was like oh so you hate us hate us but I also felt accomplished by rising to the challenge. I moved to Portland about 9 months ago and didn't think it would be as hard as it has been to find community but EKC has been a welcoming part of my weekly routine that has made me feel connected to my community. It's two blocks from my house and for the first time in my life actually enjoy working out. It's not a cheap gym by any means but it's not budget breaking. They have a flexible pricing scheme for income limited folks. They're always making little improvements here and there including adding more signage and painting and I appreciate their desire to revise and improve on themselves as I am too. Love this place. Can't say enough good things. Almost don't want more people to come because I like the class sizes as they are but I also want to support this place that's made me feel very welcomed.

The trainers are knowledgeable, attentive, and generous with their time and instruction. Eloise has already offered me several corrections / adjustments that have improved my experience. (Felecia and Tess, too!) While rigorous, each class and program accommodates multiple levels of experience and fitness. Above all, I have been impressed by the welcoming and supportive atmosphere/culture, deepened and sustained by EKC's members. Here, one can truly come as they are. I feel motivated and inspired and look forward to my next workout at/with EKC.

Let me start by saying that I had previously enjoyed going to The Bar Method for their classes --…read morethey're a great way to stay in shape. That was until the new owner, Lauren Wood, decided to make anyone coming in through ClassPass or Wellhub feel as though they're taking advantage of her by not paying her directly. She emailed to say she planned to leave these platforms and asked me to pay for a membership through her instead. I declined, since I already pay quite a bit for my Wellhub membership, which allows me to attend a variety of classes across different studios. I had booked a class for 9:30 a.m. tomorrow, and at 8:20 p.m. tonight, Lauren canceled it -- because she wanted to "save space" for people who pay her directly. So even though I booked an available class in advance, I was bumped to make room for someone who might pay her a few dollars more. I had a small window to work out tomorrow, and her last-minute cancellation made it impossible for me to find an alternative. Could you even top this kind of horrible customer service? What a joke. Lauren wants to have her cake and eat it too - stay on these platforms to keep the revenue flowing but eject low paying customers from their booked spot if she can fill it with "higher value" clients. Don't worry, Lauren -- I won't be "lowering your standards" by coming back to your studio. I'm so sorry you received such a pittance for my attendance. At this point, I'd rather work out anywhere else. Pure Barre, for example, offers more challenging classes -- and guess what? They're always happy to see me.

First of all, their underwear area was a complete disaster the last time I visited. The floor was completely covered in bras, almost piled up to my knees... I was very confused like I must have missed the apocalypse. This time I was able to really see all of the merchandise! It was laid out so nicely on racks. I swear they used to have carpet... all I know is that it was smooth concrete, so easy to walk around and I don't have to dig through things to find my size. This isn't a bin situation. They also rearranged the shoes and the aisles do seem a touch smaller there which, as far as complaints go, that is a small one. It was also nice that their sizes and the way each of the racks are marked seemed way better. I am a sort of odd sizing and ladies, can we discuss for a moment a few key things. Those of us with substantial breasts... why do all clothing manufacturers want to put a billboard of some type on our chest? And since I am a larger size now and older... it's nice that you want to allow us to show off parts but everything is either a tent or I'm practically naked. And, stop making clothing for larger sizes with material that has zero give. I'm going to rip it even just trying it on! I did find several amazing dresses though that were just perfect... showing off the curves without horribly uncomfortable material. You can always tell the trends happening while going down. The line waiting for a register. This season we are into cloth bandages, obnoxious swizzle sticks for your drinks and pickleball which I am so exhausted hearing about.
