El Tipico Express---pureed beans, platanos, tamal
Susan H.

All our previous experiences with Pupusas Express were as dine-in customers. Due to COVID, we decided to do takeout here recently. We figured that they were experienced when it came to doing deliveries as they have been doing them since they opened. We placed 2 orders of our favorite meal "El Tipico Express" which consists of a pupusa, along with curtido and sauce, platanos and a tamal. In addition, we got 2 extra pupusas in order to have them for dinner the next night. The delivery arrived when they said it would---so no complaints there. However, we were very disappointed with the food. While it was edible, the best way to describe it was that there was no love or passion in the cooking. The tamal fell apart once we opened it plus the some of the chicken wasn't shredded but instead left in big pieces. The pupusas were almost burned. The curtido and the sauce were just fine as were the platanos. Given the fraught times we are in, I can understand how things aren't what they should be. Perhaps they were extra busy the night we ordered. Or perhaps (and I can understand this) they are all very stressed due to COVID concerns. Due to the above, we aren't giving up on them. We have, however, decided to not get takeout from them again. What we will do is when things get back to normal (or new normal) we will go back as dine-in customers. That will be the true test as to whether or not they will once again cook with love and passion.

This is a no frills very good restaurant. The food was great. The prices are too. Place was clean and friendly. So good parking can be an issue. Just look at the food. It says it all. Great find.

Zucchini and cheese pupusa

Delicious pupusas, very filling! The El Salvadorian pupusas are very similar to Venezulan arepas and are like thick savory pancakes made of corn flour and stuffed with goodness! The Pupusa de Ayote stuffed with zucchini and cheese was bursting with flavor in every bite. Just a single pupusa was super filling and only $2.25, stellar deal! Glad that there are other Pupusas Express locations, excited to explore other culinary dishes on the menu!

Let me be clear. I love pupusas. I was the first in my family to uncover the simple goodness of this simple Latino dish. Pupusas Express focuses on doing this one dish really well. This was my first visit, as I usually frequent other Herndon establishments to feed my pupusa addiction. After carefully reviewing the menu, I selected a few Pupusa Revueltas. These are filled with shredded pork, beans and cheese, They were served with a flavorful sauce and fresh slaw. Actually, this delicious slaw had much more punch than what I am used to having. It was a perfectly orchestrated combination and definitely one that will be hard for me to resist. While I couldn't quite detect the cheese in the Pupusa, the combination worked well and was quite delicious. This restaurant has plenty of seating and is an excellent choice for a night when you really don't want to cook. I haven't even scratched the surface of their menu. Judging by the other reviews, I have many more good meals ahead. It is a menu full of both traditional and unique dishes. My only negative would be that the owner should not argue with his drivers in the public area. If his drivers don't want to take a delivery, perhaps they should be working elsewhere. If your food was cold tonight, it's because this particular driver sat around in the parking lot finding reasons not to deliver. Also, the previous comments regarding air conditioning are accurate. It is not cool in this restaurant and the air conditioning does not provide much relief (if there is any AC). This is a solid pupuseria with an interesting menu. I would recommend this to anyone seeking a solid pupusa experience. You won't be disappointed.

$20 Shrimp & Steak Fajita 1xSteak & 2xShrimp, they should be ashamed to send this out for delivery 4 pcs of shrimp and 4-5 little strips of steak. For that price. We spent over $100 on delivery for this...NEVER AGAIN!

As I was searching what/where to eat for lunch, came across this place and decided to stop by for a grab and go lunch. There are plenty of seats available. I came on a weekday for lunch and it was fairly empty. They do deliver up to certain miles, delivery cars were going in and out so delivery seemed like it was busy. Friendly and helpful staff. It's a mom's/pop's place, and has a homey feel to it. I got a couple of Pupusa revuelta (shredded pork, beans and cheese) with corn tortilla $2.00; you also have the option of flour tortilla $2.15. Also got the empanada salvadoreñas which is fried sweet plantain with filling of cornflour and milk, $2.50. Food was good! I work nearby, so I'll definitely be returning to support this nice local place and try other things from the menu!

Great papusas and even their hamburgers were good! The food is freshly made here and there is a bit of prep time wait. Good prices.

Absolutely amazing food! I love bringing friends and coworkers to this place. I would recommend the chicken sope or the zucchini pupusa.

The meat options were also greatly appreciated by my friends who joined me at the restaurant. Ask for the in-house spicy salsa if you like a kick of spice. The prices are very reasonable for the generous portion sizes. The service is friendly, and the food arrived in a decent amount of time even when the restaurant was busy. Definitely recommend visiting this restaurant when you're in the area.

I wasn't feeling up to the big chains and places I wanted to try seemed to close early. Luckily this place was open and I had been wanting to try it for a while. Definitely it let a hidden gem! There are some parking spots right in front, although not many. There is a decent amount of seating, but it would be tight if you had a large party. My partner did note that the bathrooms weren't that great. You immediately get served complementary chips and salsa. They were pretty basic, but not bad. We ordered the following: + Papusas (Pork and Cheese & Loroco and Cheese) - Decent, although I prefer the Loroco (an edible flower bud). + Pollo à la Primavera (chicken dish) - Yummy, especially the sauce which mixes well with their hot/spicy sauce too! I could do without the salad dressing. + Camarones con Calabeza (shrimp dish) - Same as above! Note they leave the tails on. + Natural Juices (Mango and Maranon) - So refreshing! I loved the Maranon (cashew apple) was a wonderful burst of tropical sweetness with a subtle nutty taste. I appreciate that for the pupusas they had the foresight to provide my partner and I two plates so we could sphere the papusas. The portion sizes of the entrees were great for the price. It did take a while for the staff to swing by so that we could get boxes and the check. Note that credit cards and mobile pay are accepted. I definitely wouldn't mind coming back again to try more items on their menu.
