My wife and I stopped in for lunch on a Saturday. We were at a business next door and looking for lunch. The restaurant has a dozen or so tables each covered in thick plastic to protect the underlying tablecloth I guess. It was unclear to us if someone was going to come by and take our order or we had to go to the counter to order. We chose the latter after sitting at a table for a bit. We were the only native English speakers in the place which may have been part of the issue. Their menu is clear and easy to read with pictures of most of the dishes also displayed in an overhead lighted menu board. We each ordered a beef and a chicken taco along with pupusas. Our food was delivered to us a short time later. The tacos looked and tasted very fresh. We loved them. The pupusas were freshly fried(?) and piping hot. Yummy. We saw several other orders come out with a bowl of sopa de res. It looked and smelled great chock full of veggies and a hunk of meat. This place is a hidden gem. Opens early at 7am everyday and closes at 9. Found this place when dropping my dry cleaning off next door and saw they were open early. Had planned to get breakfast elsewhere but saw peeking through the window they were open and had some good options. Went in and ordered the Desayuno Tipico and took it had to made for to-go. My car smelled amazing on the way home and I opened it up to see beautifully cooked eggs, delicious plantains, and the smoothest creamiest beans that came along with two fresh tortillas and a small ramekin of sour cream. The meal was amazing. Each item was fabulous on their own but when combined together for a perfect bite the flavors really show. You can tell the recipes are from the heart in each dish. I've been back about 5 times now, carne asada is great also, have yet to try the tacos or pupusas but they look good as well. I've met the owner (Jose I believe) and he's a great guy, old military vet who I've even seen cooking in the back! He decorates the place in a beautiful array of El Salvadoran culture, tons of beautiful plants, old military pics, and incredibly colorful artwork, it's quite nice and "home" feeling. This place should have more ratings, I feel like it's a bit unknown but for sure have told all my coworkers and neighbors about it. Excited to try more! read more

Seems to be a small family run business. I'm a big supporter of these because even though they may not have enough man power and you may have to wait a bit for the food - you can expect their food is always pretty authentic. Had the chicharron pupusas and the pupusas with everything - was very enjoyable especially if you eat them with the pickles and hot sauce or else its too plain for my taste buds. I was full off only 2 pupusas and they were just 2 bucks each (the special one was 2.50). Pretty great deal if you're on a budget and want to eat out. I wanted to try the chicken tamales but sadly they were out - (this was around dinner time). So theres a chance I may come back for the tamales! read more

Amazing pupusas! Some of the best I have ever had. They have the perfect amount of filling to tortilla ratio. Most places will put way too much inside and it leaves the pupusas quickly becoming soggy. Simple setup inside, nothing fancy, not nice in reality. But that's not what a food establishment's top priority should be. It's the food. Definitely will become one of my regular spots. read more

Excellent beef/carne asada taco! Elote loco has a sort of ketchup sauce on top, different than a usual Mexican corn. Had the pupusa especial to try it, not a fan of the loroco in there, but this is also the first time I try it, I prefer the pupusa without it! Also got the plantain empanda bc I love plantain anything- it has a white goey something in the middle, Its not cheese but I wish it was! i cant tell what it is but was not a huge fan, only ate the plantain part of the empanada. read more

Among the best for Salvadoran food. I got the sopa de res (which I believe is Spanish for "soup of res"), and a revuelta pupusa, which is a combination pork/cheese pupusa. The soup was good, different than what I'm used to, so it was interesting. But honestly, I'm not sure what I was supposed to do with those corn-on-the-cob pieces in the soup. Use my always-present corn cob skewers? But the pupusa was outstanding, nice and greasy and cheesy and porky, among the best I've had. Alas, pupusas aren't on the radar in the US, unlike burritos and tacos, which is too bad, because they're excellent, despite their unfortunate name. To me in my mangled Spanish, "pupusa" looks too much like "pupae", so I read "revuelta pupusa" as "revolting larvae", which is hardly good branding. Oh, and if you're squeamish and germ-phobic, the shared curtido probably won't do it for you. So bring your own curtido, as well, of course, as your corn skewers. read more

The meat for the Carne asada tacos were super juicy. And they give a great portion of meat on each taco. Their green salsa is good.. a tiny kick of spice but more so, just for extra flavor. Cheese pupusa was great! Loved it. And it can be quite filling. Their cabbage has a salty enough flavor to add that extra taste to the crust. Total was just under $8 which is a great deal. So delicious! This is salvadorean home cooking at it's best! Pupusas are delectable and the short rib bean soup was so deep and rich without it being greasy. I stopped in here because I was buying a bowling ball and trying to kill some time while he drilled it. The place is very small, but nice and clean. The staff is very friendly and didn't seem bothered when I had no idea what anything was on the menu and explained it. Everything looked delicious, but I've never had any El Salvadorian food. Since I'm a picky eater I chickened out on trying anything new so I went with something basic looking which was the pollo, but when I got it it looked a lot different than the picture, but not disappointing. I was served with a MASSIVE portion and it was very good. All of the veggies mixed in with the sauce and the chicken was very delicious. I feel bad because I nit picked through the chicken and left a lot of food left on my plate, but I was in a rush. One of the guys sitting near buy was eating a HUGE soup and it looked very good! Is it this place that makes me want to come to the next door $1.99 dry cleaning depot regularly? Or is it the dry cleaning that makes me want to come to this place regularly? While I don't have the answer to this conundrum, I always look forward to dropping off dry cleaning because it gives me a chance to eat the excellent papusas at El Sabor. I have also eaten the tacos and they are good too. I find El Sabor much more appealing than the expensive Mexican Garden that is in adjoining strip mall. It is a great place to get a delicious, inexpensive meal. It is also very non-pretentious and I have found the hosts to be very friendly. I intend to try out some of their other dishes over time. Forget the pupusas. The Yucas! (The fried things that look like huge french fries for those that don't know.) They come with this mayo-based jalapeño dipping sauce...which makes my heart sing. I've also encountered this place by mistake, when I go drop off my dry cleaning, since then I've been finding quite a bit of stuff to dry clean (cough). The carne asada (steak) sandwiches are awesome, it's pretty simple, clean, central american food. Don't go for the decor or the presentation, but definitely put it on your list as a delicious place to get well seasoned lunch from something that (finally) is not a chain! read more
