Pupusas
Emily B.

For someone whose never had Pupusas this spot blew me away. The delicate way the food is prepared and the care and love put into each dish was remarkable. The price is right and and the quality is 100% there. It's a small spot that was originally a food truck, definitely worth stopping by if you're in Middle Island.

The people are amazing but the pupusas aren't that good unfortunately. I am a little picky with my pupusas tho.

What can I say? I do love Salvadorian Cuisine. I am spoiled as I'm from Queens and can find…read moreanything, at any hour, and from every country, and continent in my borough! That being said- this place is GREAT! Across the way from the Metro-North at the Port Chester stop and adjacent to Run & Hide Brewery on 30 Broad Street. The decor is typical of a Latin establishment with its native, folkloric art on its walls and heavily patronized by Latinos of all backgrounds! The food is comforting, tasty and very filling. The service was attentive and the bathrooms were spotless and private. Definitely a gem if you're traveling out of Westchester or returning back. Looking forward to stopping in again on our way home to Connecticut.

Oddly enough, I've been to El Salvador on vacation so I was crazy excited to have their food again. My husband and I each got the combination plate of Dos Pupusas Con Arroz Frijoles Y Platano (Two Pupusas w/ Rice, Beans, Sweet Plantain) for $17 each. We could have shared one! It is so much food, very hearty too. You get to choose the two types of pupusas you get, and it also comes with a cabbage side salad. It was simple, authentic, and tasty. We had also gotten a separate side salad, so we were absolutely stuffed and had some food left over that we unfortunately could not take with us. It feels like you're at someone's house eating their family's food, and it's actually family-run so that aligns. The service was quick too, which I'm sure is because people go here before shows, so they are used to it. If you're looking for quick, simple, and delicious, especially before a show, I would check this restaurant out.

Sadly i will say that the curtido and salsa de tomate which is the most important side dish of the pupusas, were both tasteless, no salt. The curtido had no carrots or onions, no oregano, plus to make curtido. The cabagge has to be prepared well ahead of time so that it actually absorbs the vinegar, salt and oregano flavor. The watery tomato sauce, zero taste. My wife did not like the cheese and loroco pupusas, they had no color coming from the flat grill, cheese was ok, the dough in the pupusas was slightly thicker than what i like. But they definitely needed more color. The chicken tamal had some chick peas but no potato and a little piece of chicken but the masa had a lot of taste. The yuca chunks were fried too much but the pork was tasty, crispy and tender. They offered us a green sauce, which was just ok. All the food lacked flavor, having just visited my family in San Salvador, i knew it was not going to be a great experience but i had high hopes. Tamal de elote while it was a home made product, the corn was not sweet and when they presented it on the plate, it was already unwrapped. So i doubt they wrap them inside the corn husks, which may be the reason why it was crumbling on the plate. Dod not have bad taste but it was not great and the crema was very thick. I couldn't get the savory experience that tamles con crema usually deliver.

I would suggest the pupusas with pork and cheese and bean and cheese. Be sure to call ahead as sometimes it can be a 15-30 minute wait because they're prepared fresh. I also recommend trying it with the green sauce that they make themselves. Every time I visit I wish I try something else because the food looks and smells good but I'm usually running in quickly to grab pupusas. Hopefully I can venture out into other menu options
