I recommend the service, very quick, fast and friendly. We decided to order pupusas de queso con loroco, queso & chicharron, yuca frita con chicharrones y tamales de elote. Sadly i will say that the curtido and salsa de tomate which is the most important side dish of the pupusas, were both tasteless, no salt. The curtido had no carrots or onions, no oregano, plus to make curtido. The cabagge has to be prepared well ahead of time so that it actually absorbs the vinegar, salt and oregano flavor. The watery tomato sauce, zero taste. My wife did not like the cheese and loroco pupusas, they had no color coming from the flat grill, cheese was ok, the dough in the pupusas was slightly thicker than what i like. But they definitely needed more color. The chicken tamal had some chick peas but no potato and a little piece of chicken but the masa had a lot of taste. The yuca chunks were fried too much but the pork was tasty, crispy and tender. They offered us a green sauce, which was just ok. All the food lacked flavor, having just visited my family in San Salvador, i knew it was not going to be a great experience but i had high hopes. Tamal de elote while it was a home made product, the corn was not sweet and when they presented it on the plate, it was already unwrapped. So i doubt they wrap them inside the corn husks, which may be the reason why it was crumbling on the plate. Dod not have bad taste but it was not great and the crema was very thick. Favorite place to get some good pupusas! The service is always consistent. The ladies who work here are pleasant and nice. I would suggest the pupusas with pork and cheese and bean and cheese. Be sure to call ahead as sometimes it can be a 15-30 minute wait because they're prepared fresh. I also recommend trying it with the green sauce that they make themselves. Every time I visit I wish I try something else because the food looks and smells good but I'm usually running in quickly to grab pupusas. Give me the choice of a "fancy pants," ultra deluxe gourmet dinner or a "questionable" hidden gem that transports you halfway around the world before you even sit down at your table, I'll go for choice B every time!! I never would have known about this place, but my sister works right around the corner and passes it every day, so with some time off for "good behavior" (winter break!!) we decided to give it a try. Where I live in Ohioooooo, there's "Mexican" food just about everywhere, but it's rare (not impossible...) to find Central American food here, so this was a nice change of pace. We walked in late on a Friday afternoon (about 2pm) and immediately felt "a gusto/en casa" in the cozy dining room, with about 4-5 booths and tables two large parties occupying the center tables. Crowded, but not cramped. Their menu is full of tempting options, we decided to go for the sampler appetizer plate (plantains, beans, avocado, chicken, beef, chicharon, yuca, a fried egg......) and three different pupusas. We had enough food for an army!! It PAYS to have at least SOME Spanish (my ONE "superpower") but the menu is easy enough to decipher, and the waitresses are super helpful. Awesome service, TONS of delicious choices, reasonable prices, and a "free" afternoon "getaway" to a wonderfully hospitable, though too often misunderstood, region of the Americas, what more could you ask for?? I've seen this place for years when I've gone to the gas station across the street. Always been curious, but never went inside . . . Finally did a few months ago, and was glad of it! Though it doesn't look like much on the outside, the decor is nice inside, and the place was very clean as well. Tale of the tape: Papusas: got two different kinds, and both were excellent! Chicken Tamales: large portioned and very good, whether you use the hot sauce or not! It's pretty hard finding "huevos rancheros" on Long Island so once I found this place on Yelp we immediately went there. The place is small but it looks good. The place was empty and they had excellent Spanish music. We had over course had "huevos rancheros" half of the plate was melted cheese, for my preferences I don't like a lot of cheese. The other half of the plate had eggs, beans, and bananas. Overall the "huevos rancheros" were okay, but me and my family were still hungry so we ordered 4 bean and cheese pupusas which was amazing. And, they had two dipping sauces which were so good we took some to go. For dessert me and my sister had 1 flan which tasted good but it was WAY TOO SWEET. The epitome of a "hole in the wall" restaurant. Very unassuming on the outside but don't let it dissuade you from trying it out. The portions are huge! Looking at the menu it seems to be a little pricey but they give you more than your money's worth. There's a huge variety as well, you could easily spend an afternoon reading through the menu. If you're worried about a language barrier the menu is in both Spanish and English and the waitresses are friendly. My only criticism is that it seems to be a "seat yourself" restaurant but there aren't any signs telling you to do so. When I entered with my party we awkwardly stood around not sure what to do before the staff informed us of the policy and recommended seats for us. read more

i ordered food for take out and I'm really disappointed with my experience. Apparently you have to be a man wanting to drink and spend money to get good service to start. I ordered pupupas and a "special" salad. The pupusas were ok (I've had much better) and the salad was disgusting!! The avocados in the salad were old and mushy and one piece even had the skin still on it. The carrot peels in the salad also had black spots on some of them. Needless to say, I could not finish my salad and probably won't order anything aside from their pupusas since it's the only salvadorian place close to my job. read more

My hubby and I tried this restaurant because its the only one in the area and yelp had great reviews but I was not impressed. He ordered carne asada(grilled steak)and the chirmol tasted old but the meat was not bad it had good flavor. I ordered pupusas which were alright but not to brag about. I really like the decor and they put the curtido in a jar on the table which I thought would make the experience more authentic since this is how they serve curtido in El Salvador. However this was not the case. I think this place has potential and could make lots of money if they worked on the food a lot more. Oh and the service was okay, we asked for lime for the carne asada(twice) , and the place was not busy at all. Nevertheless, would I come back here? My answer no. I know other yelpers have better ratings for this restaurant and this is what I went by but I don't want others to be fooled. Salvadorians are all about the food and this restaurant needs to get this right. read more
