I would like to start off and say.. I love my dog!!! She is the best thing in my life. I bought her from this store and my horror health story is explained below. However, instead of just posting another online complaint (my very first because it's the first time I've ever cared enough) I would like to call out the companies bigger than this store, Yelp and the in-network vets, because they have the power to actually change things and have turned a blind eye!
To Yelp: You should do more. The reviews are consistent. James and his store are selling unhealthy puppies. And while puppies from "puppy mills" deserve just as much love as adopted puppies, the community's support is not deserved! You should post ALL reviews about this store instead of filtering results. You should also use your ".com status" and success to either 1) help force change policy/practice in this store or 2) put them out of business. You have the power and should use it for the right reasons!
To the vets associated: SHAME ON YOU! Are you actually willing to give a "clean bill of health" to these little unfortunate miracles? If so, please do us all a favor and quit your job. Seriously. Go work on Wall Street or something. Or even get in to politics. We are use to liars, cheats and scumbags in the aforementioned fields but (and I take the liberty of speaking for the dog loving community) we expect more from our fur baby caregivers. Be better people. Take care of these little babes that can't care for themselves.
For those who are interested... Here is Chloé's story:
I got Chloé in October of 2014. 3 days after purchase, Chloé still had not had a bowel movement. I took her to the Puppy Petite recommended vet (in Brooklyn) who gave her an enema and sent us home. 2 days later, Chloé still had not had a bowel movement. I then took her to a vet on the UES. It was here that I was delivered the news... "Chloé was very sick and I should consider all options. Including 1) exchanging her for another (there is a lemon law on dogs) or 2) put her down. Naturally, this broke me down to tears. Chloé is not "exchangeable" nor could I do the unspeakable! Besides her not being able to go number 2, Chloé was the happiest, cutest, most perfect puppy (I may be biased) that has ever lived.
I left the vet, in tears, and drove an hour outside of the city to get another opinion. This time, I went to another "recommended" vet and was given the same advice. Upon diagnosis, I scooped up little Chloé (she weighed 1.8lbs at this time) and headed back to city. On the way home I thought of the pains of having a sick dog and then immediately killed those thoughts. Why was I thinking of the pain she could bring me? This little, perfect pup who had CHOSEN me, had done so for a reason. At this moment, I realized that Chloé was a rescue. She was a puppy who needed love and support and who may have some bumps in the road ahead. I knew my answer in this moment. Chloé was officially rescued!!!
Chloé is now One (her birthday is pictured below). The first 7 months were NOT easy! If you have never pulled the poo out of a 3lb dog after watching her suffer because her rectum is so small (due to a heredity anal stricture) that she can't pass her own poo, then you may or may not know true love. After lots of love, poo monitoring, diet control and butt wiping... I'm happy to report Chloé is currently happy, healthy and pooing on her own (I still have to wipe her behind)!!!
Poo problems and all, I would never trade Chloé for any other dog! However, I would like to warn others... If you are not prepared to be the owner of a rescue, stay away!!! Buying from this puppy mill takes more love, time, and patience than most dog owners are able to give. Therefore, help put this down place out of business!
Disclosure: I called and complained for long enough that I was actually reimbursed for Chloé. While I think Chloé is worth a million dollars, this store does not deserve even one penny. So, if you get a puppy from this store, and God forbid, your pup gets sick... STAND YOUR GROUND! They can't afford to reimburse us all! read more
