Does the job for pet supplies. I went to pick up some treats and bully sticks for my dog, and they had a good selection. They have a good selection, but the only thing is that their prices are double what these items usually cost online or at most major pet stores. Don't buy animals from here. I've seen other comments about how the animals are from puppy mills. I'm not confident this is true, but there are signs that point towards this. Usually, ethical and safe breeders have wait lists and don't keep their puppies on display in cages. Definitely don't purchase from puppy mills. Not only do the puppies experience horrible conditions , they also come with or are predisposed to develop long-term chronic health issues. read more

Horrible husbandry for their reptiles. All of them are kept in improper enclosures, which are also way too small for many species. They also have a macaw there for a very long time, not sure if it's the same one I saw when I was a kid, but it's also in a pretty small cage for that type of bird. It's absolutely ridiculous and I cannot believe this store is still open. I went in to see if they had any reptile supplies, and I left feeling horrified. Please check out the photos below. If you know anything about these animals, then you know how bad this is. It's understandable to have smaller tank sizes for animals that will be sold soon, as long as they are not there for long. But I doubt these animals are moved into larger tanks since they are here for the majority of the day. Look at the bearded dragon for example. This animal needs a MINIMUM of 4 feet in tank length for both movement room and a temperature gradient. This dude has no spot to even bask. Do not shop here. Report them if you can. They should not be allowed to continue business because they do not care about their animals at all. read more

If I can give 0 stars to a store it would be this stores. They cohabit species of reptiles you CANNOT cohabit. Majority of their reptiles are wild caught with disease and also because of poor husbandry. Please do not support this business in anyway. To add a cherry on top they had a 20+ year old macaw (fairly large parrot) in an extremely small enclosure and that is considered to be the store's pet. If they can't take care of their own pets let alone their own business. These animals deserve better. P.S. there is a reason why there isn't pictures of the inside of the store. I've been coming here for awhile and I'm very disappointed with how they have handled the pandemic. Half the staff do not wear masks or wearing them improperly (not covering nose) which is the same thing. It is a small store with a small area to pay so you are usually forced to stand near (about a foot or two away) an employee or a customer that isn't wearing a mask. This store is very dirty and smells terrible. The staff consists of teenagers with no knowledge of breeds and/or appropriate paperwork. I was told that the puppies came from local breeders around NJ and PA, only to be told by a different staff member they weren't exactly sure. The puppies although energetic and adorable all had blood shot eyes and mucus coming from their nose and eyes. Conditions were not good. I got my yorkie here and Cynthia and her husband have been nothing but informative, honest and patient. I think I called Cynthia 50x the first week I had her and she answered every single question honestly and informative. The dog had kennel cough and Steve bought it to my attention before I even purchased her. He could've just let me take her and figure it out on my own but he told Me upfront. I liked that, it showed he wasn't just trying to get a sale on the dog. They monitored her and treated her for a couple of days for me and let me take her home with the medication she needed. I have had 4 yorkies in my lifetime and this puppy has the best temperament and disposition I've ever seen. She doesn't even bark. She is (in my opinion) very well socialized. She gives kisses doesn't growl or bark and is very friendly. She is a love. So happy I walked into Arcadia on a whim and saw this baby. She has made us very happy. I purchased My Maltese from Arcadia. She didn't live long, she was only 3 when she died. I was heartbroken and did some investigating. She was born with a liver shunt. She was from a puppy mill in Iowa, Zumbach Kennel. I've learned that dogs that have liver shunts are most likely inbred. Arcadia recommended St Francis animal Hospital to be her Vet. They had suspicions of liver shunt, which I learned just recently but never did the test to diagnose. Usually when breeders find liver shunt at 12 weeks old the puppy is euthanized. The quality of life for the dog would be awful. The vet told me my dog was a congenital nightmare, of course after she was dead. The lesson I learned was to NEVER purchase a dog from a Pet Store. Investigate the breeder and know everything about the breed. Do all necessary preventative testing before purchasing. I gave my dog the best possible life she could have had. And I loved her dearly. But the truth is she was suffering every single day from Toxins in her system as a result of the Liver shunt. She never grew . She was 1.5 pounds when we bought her and she was 2.5 pounds when she died. It was my mistake to shop at this pet store and it's now my responsibility to make sure everyone knows they purchase puppies from Puppy Mills. And they do none of the morally required testing to assure the puppies are healthy. Shame on you Arcadia . read more

This place is an absolute god send. My dog has been eating the same exact food for 7 years, and unfortunately, the store we used to buy it in closed its' doors. The food is a lot more expensive online, so I started to look on the brand's website and calling all distributors. Of all the stores listed on Staten Island, Arcadia Pets is the only store that always has the food in stock, and doesn't need to order it. This is a perfect example of a small business owner with excellent customer service. I started a small fish tank and bought my fish here. The next day one fish looked like it had ick. I went back that day and Tommy helped me out. He gave me some things to add (for free ~ some gravel coral and sea salt) and a few tips and it worked! I had another issue so I went back and was helped and Boom fixed. Their fish stock is very healthy and well kept. They also have puppies (normally I hate seeing them sold in stores) HOWEVER they are well cared for and they sell like quickly. I love love this store. I bought both my puppies from Arcadia. My first one was a cocker spaniel , he just passed last oct 2015. He had the most beautiful temperment. My kids adored him. He lived for 13 years and gave us pure love. The second puppy is my little white Maltese. She's adorable and healthy. Arcadia is very caring , they guide u , teach you and show u how to take care of the puppies. I go back there constantly w questions and to ask for help. Trust me I am the biggest pain in the butt , IV even gone in crying because I felt I didn't Hv a clue how to feed such a tiny little life. I was in a panic because sometimes small puppies don't eat and they must be syringe feed. They showed me how to do it and the owner Cynthia even called me back while she was away on vacation to assist me. These ppl take their puppies very seriously. Became extremely disgusted with this place after purchasing my Pomeranian that cost me 2400. They are extremely over priced on dogs, and it's very sad how these dogs are locked up all day, no treats no toys or attention. Sometimes I'll go in there to pick up food for my dog and the staff never greets us or even asks how my puppy is doing. It's very surprising how nasty they are especially after all of the money I spent in there. It really concerns me that these people work around animals with the attitude they have. If you need a deform animal in the future, go there: The intent of this review is to share our experience and true events to give guidance to customers and constructive feedback to the seller. Never had a dog, and finally got our first cute little guy, but it wasn't what we expected. Having a dog for the first time was not the hard part, the hard part was taking care of a seriously sick dog. I'm not just talking about a dog with cold; I'm talking about a dog with severe malfunction organs. Our puppy had a bad cold when we purchased him, but honest to say that the store stood by our side and assisted us with everything they got. They supplied his medications and even offered to return him, but who does that; we already established a bond with the dog, and we felt obligated to rescue him and give him a better life. The issue wasn't the store, but the vet they are using, the vet kept saying that he had a bad cold and kept giving him the same meds that don't work. Finally, we took him to another vet where we found out that he had advanced pneumonia. Thanks to our own vet, our dog was eventually recovered from that pneumonia which he had for four months and went from 1.8 lbs to 5 lbs or so. Later on, the dog experienced more health issues such as a bad digestive system where he has to be on a special diet for the rest of his life, and has malfunction liver which requires medication for life and ongoing medical monitoring. Another thing the store vet told us that he was exposed to giardia, but he doesn't have it. But guess what; when we took him to be checked out with our own vet he had giardia for months, and we had to do extensive deworming and treatments for week and stool samples and whatever else. This was the worst experience we ever had; we used to call the dog Vegetable because that's really how he was acting, a dead vegetable. We spent five months to revive that dog, and now we will spend the rest of his remaining life on doctor visits, blood work, special diet, medications and unnecessary suffering. In one year we spent about $3,000 on medical care and a special diet, and this is just the beginning of a downhill road. So our first dog needs special handling, extensive care, special diet, and we hope he lives long enough even to make it to his adult life. Poor guy paid the price for profit, careless veterinarian, poor breeding, and unhealthy environment. How could anybody do that to a defenseless, hopeless and innocent dog? The supplier of the dogs definitely a puppy mill, and we did search them and confirmed that they are. So DO NOT believe them if they said they get them from a breeder. No breeder will sell to a store, ever never ever. After the dog turned 18 months old, he start limbing, and when we checked him out and did X-Rays, we found out that his leg is deformed, meaning, his leg bones are growing up-normal with extreme curvature that damaged his muscles. This will require a $3,000 surgery and weeks of recovery. I hope this poor dog make it to 2 years. This is a real life event, and if anyone would like documentation to proof my review, just let me know. I got the contract and all medical documents. I hope someone shut this place down for what they are doing to poor animals. read more

I had found forever homes for two of my dogs (first was a Shih Tzu named Pebbles who gave us 15 wonderful years but unfortunately passed and another was a Pug named Ozzie who is 3.) My aunt also just bought a puppy there yesterday (Shar pei beagle mix who is the cutest little girl!!) All of our experiences have been wonderful. Arcadia has a fantastic and wide variety of puppies for sale as well as reptiles, birds, fishes, ect. All of their puppies get checked out by St. Fransis Animal Hospital (which is right across the street and are also wonderful.) These puppies are not only precious and beautiful but you can tell come from excellent and quality breeders. Cynthia the owner is an absolute sweetheart as well as Donna the groomer and their whole staff is extremely knowledgable, helpful, and patient. They love these animals with their heart and you can absolutely tell they love what they do. They walk you through everything when you are brining your new addition home. They make sure you understand all the medications a dog might need to take as well as going over other important information. Another thing (although small but still didn't go unnoticed) is when my aunt was bringing home her precious puppy she asked what she needed for the dog. Arcadia staff told her what she needed (a few things like a play pen, a chew toy, wee wee pads as well as food) but they did not try and up/over sell her or get her to buy anything that was unnecessary. The essentials and that's it. Their staff was very honest and thorough with my aunt. I cannot rave about Arcadia enough or recommend them enough to anyone who is interested in purchasing a dog. When I bought my Pug at Arcadia a few years back my son had his heart set on a black pug. I called and spoke with Cynthia through emails as well as talking on the phone and she told me as soon as she gets any news with her breeders of a black pug she will let me know. It took about two months or so but true to her word she called me and said a black pug was available and of course we all fell in love. If you are looking for a specific breed and Arcadia does not have that breed available in store yet, Cynthia will take your name and some information and try her hardest and keep her eyes and ears out for your desired pooch. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful place. Nothing but happy, memorable and great experiences and memories there and I will be going right back to Arcadia to purchase another addition to our family when the time is right. read more

I had no idea that this pet store was on Staten Island....I stopped by just to look....I fell in love with the cutest Shih Tzu...couldn't resist. The owners and the managers at this store and the sales people for that matter are just great, couldn't be nicer. The owner, Cynthia, actually gave me her cell phone number if we needed anything. The manager Angelina, is very knowledgable and available for any questions. I felt like this pet store is very trustworthy. So far....everything has been great! I recently bought my boxer pup from Arcadia Pets. I must say the owners and staff are very knowledgeable and they go above and beyond to help you with anything you need. Its been a few weeks now and my puppy is doing great. I had asked about a good Vet and they immediately recommended and took her themselves to introduce her and myself to the Vet across the street to get looked at. I highly recommend this place, they also have fish and reptiles as well as grooming and washing!! They show a lot of love and they treat all there animals with great care and love !! I truly recommend anyone that is looking for a pet to check this place out!!! Unfortunately, my experience with Arcadia Pets was not so great. Back in July 2017, I purchased a yorkie puppy from them. I was told at the time of purchase, that I would receive a follow up call from the owner about my puppy's adjustment. Never received that call. Next, my puppy had bronchitis. I called the pet store who put me in touch with the owner. Yes, they did pay for the vet bill, but once again the owner (who seemed so concerned at the time) never followed up as promised. Then, my puppy was diagnosed (by my own vet btw) with a parasite in her stool. It makes me wonder what would have happened if I didn't purchase this puppy for $2400 what would have happened to her. Obviously, the owner is much too busy to follow up with her customers. Poor customer service makes a poor business because customers should ALWAYS be your number one priority, Arcadia Pets! I guess that why breeders are the way to go. Lesson learned! read more

I just recently dog sat for a dog with flees. I went to Arcadia with my puppy and they looked at him (outside) and showed me flees on him. The owner gave me shampoo (even though I had no money with me at the time). He told me he couldn't take the dog inside because of the other animals he had there (which means my dog would most likely not get anything from this place) but gave me instructions to shampoo my puppy at home. I told him I didn't have money and he said he trusted me and not to worry. I never met him before this and was thankful that he let me leave with the shampoo and take care of my puppy. I later went back to thank and pay him for helping me out. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone because of the care they took with me and my pet. read more
