Punch Burger has quickly become my favorite burger place in Carmel. I love that everything is made fresh and rather quickly. I have the turkey burger when I go and I love that it isn't dry! Their waffle fries are my favorite, seriously perfection. I ate the entire basket by myself. Although, the basket is definitely enough for two people. Their fries are just that good. Great dinner stop on our way to northern Indiana. I tried on Yelp to find a fast casual spot for dinner as we passed through Carmel and it steered me well as usual. Husband had something with blue cheese and I had the burnt cheese, which is a burger made for people who "accidentally" drop some cheese directly on the skillet when they're making burgers or grilled cheese. Kind of a best of both worlds situation--gooey and chewy. The burgers themselves were delicious--held together well but not dry at all. The fries were solid. Husband was pleasantly surprised to see a few beers on tap rather than just bottles. The restaurant was not very busy despite being a Friday night--perhaps it's busiest at lunchtime. This was my first time here, and I'd definitely go back. The waffle fries were SO good. You know how sometimes they can be soggy? Not these. A basket was the perfect amount for the two of us. We both had the vegan burger and loved it. A few reviews said they thought it was just a Boca patty, but it didn't look or taste like one to me. By definition, and I'm the one defining it, Punch Burger is an Indianapolis-based "chain" of burger joints focusing on grass-fed beef from Fischer Farms in Jasper, Indiana. Now, then, it should be acknowledged that the "chain" terminology should be taken lightly since there are, in fact, only two Punch Burger restaurants in existence at this point - the original in downtown Indy and the first franchised location in Carmel. While I work downtown and have been trying to find the time to make it over to Punch Burger, I was actually in Carmel looking for another restaurant, got lost in one of Carmel's six bajillion roundabouts and found my way to Old Meridian Street and the neighborhood that houses Punch Burger. So, what the heck. I was getting dizzy from all the roundabouts and figured it was time for lunch. The mission of Punch Burger reminds me a lot of Elevation Burger minus the ten pounds of grease that seems to come with Elevation's burger - I don't care if it's healthier grease, it's still grease. Punch Burger has several specialty burgers along with a build-your-own option. As a plus, they just added chicken to their menu. Among their burgers, they offer angus beef, ground duck, ground turkey, vegan, and veggie options. If you build-your-own, you also get multiple choices for bread/buns, toppings, cheese, etc. Of course, the more you add the pricier your options can get. Punch Burger seemed like they were in line with the prices in most other gourmet burger joints in Central Indiana. This location has two entries with one leading directly to their ordering area and one likely being considered a "back" entrance. I used the back entrance that did have some accessible parking spots (Carmel tends to do these right), though it's worth noting that the actual ramp is to the right of these spots. The door is a relatively light glass door, though it does have a bit of a lip that might bump a smaller wheelchair. Seating tends to be either tables or a table/booth combo. Punch Burger has a rather simple and clean interior that I'd describe as contemporary. I went up to the counter and immediately tried to figure things out.The person working the counter was helpful and could clearly tell I was either new or just didn't quite know how things worked. She handed me a smaller menu and that helped. I ordered a build-your-own and kept it simple with a single 1/3 lb. patty with mayo - I did experiment ever so slightly by ordering it on Texas Toast. I ordered a side of waffle fries and a large drink (22 oz.). They have one of those Coca-Cola Freestyle machines, though I was disappointed that no iced tea options existed and the only iced tea option was a bottled iced tea - I will give the employee credit as she could tell I was disappointed and told me it would be easy to switch to a bottled drink. While this seems like a minor issue, I'll be honest that the lack of fountain or brewed iced tea would easily lead me to choose Bru Burger just a few blocks away. Yeah, I consider it that important as most soft drinks make me ill (and I did drink Diet Coke and it did make me ill). I was a little thrown off that they offer a tipping option on their credit machine - they do bring your food to you, but I still find that a tad tacky even if it does stop at 9%. The burger was a delight and served as ordered. I really loved the Texas Toast and the burger was good, considerably less greasy than Elevation and felt satisfying without absolutely stuffing me. The waffle fries are a definite winner - nicely browned with a distinct flavor that felt natural and not novelty. It was a good meal for a decent price. The atmosphere is pleasant and comfortable. I sat there and read my Sunday paper and never felt rushed. The ketchup dispenser, they used Red Gold, is a tad high for someone in a wheelchair but I was able to access it with a good stretch. Would I go back? The lack of iced tea bothers me most. Other than that, it would be a no-brainer. While it's probably not my favorite burger in town, it's still a good one and I love that Punch is local. I don't live in Carmel, though I'm there often enough that Punch will be an option. Next time, I'll either go for a bottled iced tea or be content with one of their flavored water options from the fountain. My entire meal came in at just over $11 - certainly higher than fast food, but you're also getting healthier food and supporting local. I should note that they serve up a handful of local craft brews. That's also always a plus. While I'm not much of an alcohol drinker, on occasion I'll grab a brew and it's definitely an option here. They also have milk shakes and, while I can't imagine ordering a salad at a burger joint, they do offer up a side salad. read more

There is something I really like about this Punch burger that goes beyond the food (although that's pretty great too). You walk into wide open space with tables lining the walls. You can see the entire cooking area as well as all the employees, who truly seem to like working there. The entire menu is written on a chalkboard wall and you can choose from pre-designed burgers or create your own. The meat comes from a local farm so you get to support the community in that way as well. There are also special items, for example, they have a duck burger going on right now and they previously had a chorizo burger. Soon good. Burgers are cooked medium well but they will gladly make it medium for you if you ask! Fries are standard waffle fries and there are milkshakes (which I haven't tried yet) as well as beer options -in case you need a pick me up at lunch. Kid option is a slider and fries. The morning burger is unique; I'd never consider adding cream cheese to a burger, and I live life on the edge. The real kicker is, that even though the burgers are a 1/3 lb, the abundance of toppings means that I am getting at least 1/4 of my wife's burger. Wooo. The sweet tater fries are slightly softer than regular tots, but they make up for it with being very fresh-tasting. The waffles fries are fantastic. We went on a Friday night, and the parking for Punch Burger was fairly full, we got luck they we found a spot. Punch Burger had a hip, modern atmosphere with an order first and then an employee will serve the food. Punch Burger has build your own burgers, or already made burgers such as the burnt cheese burger. The person taking our order told us the most popular burgers were the burnt cheese burger and the Thai burger, a burger with peanut butter and an Asian salad infused. This burger joint only uses grass fed beef, as well as use locally grown foods. Because of this, the prices are a little pricy. For 2 burgers, with 1 side of waffle fries (extra) and 1 beer, the total was $24. Each burger is around $7.5, and sides costed extra. The staff members were friendly, and it was fairly busy! I love having Punch in the neighborhood, but I do think it takes a significant punch to my wallet. I ordered a burger, waffle fries, drink and a small tip and left spending close to $13. Sadly, I know they won't change their prices but when Bru arrives, I'll be hard pressed to go to Punch at the same price point. This is a tad steep for lunch time prices. The waffle fries are a home run. Ranch can be ordered by request and a must with any potato/starch/food/object. They were hot and crispy and had me going back for more like A Rod to steroids. The burger, which should be the star, was good. I got the burnt cheese burger with standard toppings (lettuce, tomato, onion, ketchup, mayo). The burnt cheese was tasty as expected and the burger was a thicker patty that was as juicy as the day is long these days. But much like my Tindr game, I kept going back for more and left just feeling average after each bite. I wanted to be punched with flavor, but instead I was lightly grazed with a nice experience. Not bad, just not GREAT. I appreciate the fresh approach to burgers and will continue to support as a local business. The patio is a huge upgrade. Definitely the best burger joint in the area with such low prices. The veggies are super fresh. They say everything is local and I believe them. Nice beer selection. They have ghost pepper cheese and it rocks. Spicier than pepper jack, but mild enough to stand. The waffle fries are the truth. You can spend $20 and feed two standard sized humans. They asked me if I wanted my burger well done or pink, but I don't think it mattered how I answered because it came out well. It was good though. Not really thick enough of a patty to matter. I didn't catch the name of the gentleman helping us, but he was so kind and helpful in walking us through the menu. We chose our burgers and sat down. The food arrived quickly. Burgers were cooked perfectly. We tried the cheeseburger, texan, and a build-your-own. Everyone liked their burgers and toppings. The sweet potato tots and waffle fries with cheese (mmm...cheese...) were nicely crispy. The guys ordered shakes and really enjoyed them. Mmmm, Mmmm, Mmmm! Normally, the hubster and I don't seek out burger joints but on this night, that's what we were craving so we headed to Punch Burger. We used to live near this location and it was fun seeing how it has changed in the two years since we have moved. Punch Burger took what used to be a salad joint and vamped it up to a casual yet swanky burger joint. I don't know why but I really loved to chairs. I know, weird! We both ordered the punch burger. Mr. G ordered his as advertised but I made a few changes to mine. I subbed in a Turkey burger and added bacon. We also ordered the waffle fries for our side. We got our drinks and had a seat, maybe 5-10 minutes went by and our food was brought to our table. The order of fries was enough to share and how can you not love waffle fries?!? They were crispy and lightly seasoned. The burgers were great. I don't think I have ever had a turkey burger that has been that juicy and flavorful. Seriously! We both really enjoyed the food and the service received from the employees. The only gripe I have, and this is of no fault of Punch Burger, but the parking is atrocious. Not only are there several restaurants here fighting for parking but there are apartments upstairs whose tenants need somewhere to park as well. Whoever designed this place probably did not anticipate the popularity of the restaurants. But there is a Meijer directly across the street, so you can park there and walk. read more

It's really quite simple. You walk in. Order the Burned Cheese Burger on a Pretzel Bun. Hold the Onions. Basket of Fries. Diet Coke. (or a BEER ON DRAFT) Enjoy. It's kinda like an even mix between Five Guys and Bru Burger Bar. It's quality is on par with Bru but it's pricing is between it and 5Guys. Places like this will thrive while the Bagger Daves of the world will melt away in their own grease fire. How that place ever hit the national scene is beyond me. read more

Yummy! Locally sourced meat. I've had the Good Morning burger with a fried egg and bacon it's AMAAZZZIING. And I've had the Aloha burger with teriyaki and grilled pineapple... Just thinking of them make my mouth water. Waffle fries are the bomb. I've had the sweet potato toys and they're good, but the waffle fries are better. Chocolate milkshake was pretty decent, not my favorite but I'm extremely picky when it comes to ice cream. Staff is friendly and they will add whatever to your burger (some things come at an extra cost). Place is well maintained and clean. I can't stop visiting this place. I didn't know what to expect when I went, but I was happily surprised. My group sat in a half booth/table situation. The vibe was casual. I was surprised that they also served beer. It wasn't too busy when we went around dinner time. I built my own burger. My group split crinkle cut fries and waffle fries and the waffle fries were gone first. They were both delicious, but whatever seasoning that was on the waffle fries was amazing. The cashier was patient with my group because it was all of our first times there. I did get several toppings on my burger and my bottom bun was soggy from the aioli and mushrooms, which was disappointing because it ended up falling apart once a took a couple bites. That didn't impact how great the burger tasted though! I just grabbed a fork and knife. I do wish that it wouldn't have fallen apart, but we had a few people in our group, so it's possible that mine was finished first. I will definitely go back. I got a double duck burger (because I had read in another review that the patties were small) on texas toast with ghost pepper cheese and spicy aioli, My S.O. got a bacon cheeseburger and the others got cheeseburgers. We all got fries. It arrived quickly and correct. When my burger arrived I was a little overwhelmed, the patties were larger than I expected but that was OK. I would have been fine with one. It was a little messy. The burgers themselves were good but not very seasoned. The texas toast was texas toast bread but it wasn't really buttery or anything. Somehow neither the spicy aioli nor the ghost pepper cheese were very spicy.The "house made" pickles sounded like a good idea but they were not very "pickle-like", they were more like cucumbers VERY lightly cured in vinegar. My S.O. did not like the bacon. It's like that really wide thick bacon that is more like ham and it isn't crispy. These things weren't BAD exactly, just not what we were expecting. The one thing we all definitely liked were the fries. Cut to a few hours later, we all wound up sick. The only thing we ALL ate were the fries. This used to be by far my favorite burger place in the entire Indy area. Healthy, fresh, and organic food is important to me, so Punch had almost everything I was looking for in a burger place: Grass-fed beef, an extensive array of options to build one's burger, and coke fountain drinks. Like any good burger place, it had one significant flaw. At Bru Burger, it's Pepsi products (yuck!) and very slow service. Here, it's the fries and ketchup. I mean, seriously, you already have an all-natural burger place, you buy your meat from directly from a farm (even the bacon), and you can't hire a guy for $10/hour to peel potatoes and yams and make your own fries? Instead, Punch serves frozen, pre-fried industrial waffle fries, sweet potato tots, and now even conventional fries. They taste, well, like those fries you make at home from a bag you picked up at the frozen section in the supermarket... yeah, not great. As for ketchup, same question to the owner: You are so into natural stuff, but your ketchup is that bright-red all-sugar stuff? So, it appears someone at Punch had a great idea for a burger place, but did not think all the fine details through. Nonetheless, for the last 4 years I overlooked the fries problem because the burgers were phenomenal. I was an avid fan of Punch in their original, downtown Indy location, I was there 30 minutes after they opened on their first day in Carmel, and I've probably been to their two branches over 200 times by now. I've also sent many friends there. But, after today, unless the owner of Punch responds to this post in a meaningful way (not the generic "we are very sorry and we take your comments seriously"), I will no longer eat there. It's been about 2-3 months since my last visit - my longest hiatus to date. And what a difference: The burgers were overcooked - I know I can ask for a little pink, but if I don't your people don't have to burn them... The patties were noticeably smaller than before. The bacon was only 2 strips (used to be 3 or 4, and for $1.95 extra 3 isn't too much to ask for). The workers there made 3 (!) mistakes with my order: Wrong type of fries, no bacon in my burger, and no gummy bears for the kids meal. They corrected them all, but did not apologize or offer compensation. They didn't even smile, just kept on their grumpy faces. I understand working in a fast-food place isn't always enjoyable. I did that too back in the day. But, if you can't do your job and serve customers properly, don't work there. Finally, one female worker who was preparing the food had long curly hair that was dangling all over the place. Of course, it's her business how to do her hair, but she should definitely tie it up or cover it somehow when she prepares food for others. No one wants to find hair in their food... So to the owner I say: The workers I encountered today were different than the ones who used to work there before. You need to either train them in the fundamentals of customer service, or get rid of them altogether. Two other tips: 1. If your costs went up, raise prices; don't cut corners. You charge for a double patty burger $8.5, and that was the price 4 years ago. I'd rather pay 9 or 9.5 and not get a visibly smaller patty and less bacon. And I'd rather pay a little more and have decent employees greet me. Ignore those who cry about the price: This is an upscale burger place, not McDonalds. If you want to eat cheap low-quality burgers, go elsewhere. 2. Get rid of that screen that offers customers to leave a tip. It's ridiculous. You are a self-service place, so there's no reason to make your customers feel uncomfortable about tipping. read more

I was recently in Carmel for business and happened upon Punch Burger. I've been on a health kick but I sampled a slider at a tasting in my hotel, and said I have to have this. Literally, the burnt cheeseburger may be the best burger I've ever had in my life. First, the location is nice, open and modern. The staff is very welcoming and the owner comes off as very sincere and really trying to do something good. All very nice people. The burgers can be paired with a nice selection of wines and craft beers. It was all just excellent.
