As you walk in, it is a small quaint place that gives you a warm feel. The front of the house was a one man show! I didn't get his name but he had a great sense of humor and even when it got busy, made sure to always keep us informed that he will be right with us. He sat us, took our orders, and brought out our food. How impressive is that! The food was beyond amazing, we had the causa sampler, empanadas, lamb and the seafood paella! We enjoyed a stellar Peruvian meal at Puerto 511. The place is super small and intimate. The kitchen is larger than the dining room, which only has about 7 tables. The decor is homey and very much feels like a Baltimore walk-up studio apartment turned Peruvian joint. Every dish had a unique flavor that presented exotic blend of Peruvian spices and protein. The meats, while not cooked in the French style of being uber-tender, captured smoky spicy elements that lended themselves to their more robust mouthfeel. Of particular note, the octopus with crab balanced layers of briny saveur that led me from char, to cool crab, to a beautiful mound of palate massaging mashed potatoes. This chef is passionate, intense, and has created a space and menu that feels so authentically Peruvian that you'd expect to step out of the door onto the hilly streets of Lima. read more

We really wanted to like this spot and I hope we just had an off night. But it cost us $70/person and was a prix fixe, so wanted to give a bit of feedback. It took 3 hours to get through the meal. We were seated at 8 and didn't get our main until 10. They only came to take our drink order once. The food was pretty lackluster and also was barely enough. One dish had supermarket shrimp. The final dish was listed on the menu as New York Steak, but they brought us a (single) lamb chop. There was also an above head light (or 2 or 3?) that were flickering to a degree that everyone else in the restaurant was commenting on it. read more

We came for the first time for our 8th anniversary and it was delicious!! It was pre fix meal of 6 courses for $59 and BYOB!! I've had many tasting menus and this was on par with many but way more reasonable. The Marinated veal skewers were perfectly cooked and juicy. The shrimp tamale dish had the sweet maize with a sour salad and perfectly cooked shrimp with a creamy sauce!! The mahi with potato was succulent with an amazing sauce! The ceviche was full of fish and citrus! My husband asked for seconds they didn't charge us!! This is from a guy who hates eating out!! The Lomo de los Andes ribeye was perfectly cooked medium with a side of couscous but I think I would have preferred fries!! Still delicious! Dessert was a decadent chocolate cake - rich and smooth!! We enjoyed 2 delicious bottles of our favorite wine and ended paying a great price for one of the best meals out!! Highly recommend and actually my husband is returning with his guy friends for dinner this week!! I'd crash but can't be in 2 places at one time! I made reservations 3/14/19 for today, 4/23/19 at 5:30 pm for a special occasion. I arrived on time to a locked restaurant. I figured the hostess would open the doors shortly, and I waited. Fifteen minutes and several calls later I was still patiently waiting. Another patron joined me outside. I informed her of my wait. She replied, "I've been calling as well!" She then pressed her face against the window and said, " This is my first time here. But are there tables on this level?" I replied yes! To my dismay, the restaurant was empty. No tables, no chairs just a ladder. I am disappointed! No call, no website updates. What happened to Puerto 511? I love it here! Beautiful people, delicious food and great vibes. Most recently I visited again for Valentine's Day 2019. The prefixed menu did not disappoint. I enjoyed the Passion Fruit Pisco Sour, Anticucho, Tamalito Verde, Mahi Escabechado en is Causa and Ceviche. I was not a fan of the Lomo de los Andes, it was too hearty. The secret's out, and it's been out for awhile. You don't need my review to know this but Puerto is a hit, adding more charm to charm city with a bit of ethnicity. To sum it up, up scale food and dishes in a family dining room setting with all the hospitality of your grandma's kitchen, 4-5 small tables, reservations are a must. Our peruvian waitress/hostess was extremely inviting and friendly, explained the concept of all the dishes as well as the culture behind them, all with a friendly smile. She'll also help you with your spanish if you want to pick up a few phrases. Appreciated that she also got to know everyone's name at the table. For the food, you can't go wrong with any of the dishes both in presentation and in taste. beautifully constructed dishes you'd find at a $$$$ restaurant but with the $$$$ price. I was skeptical and intrigued by the 5-star rating, especially after 2 failed attempts at securing reservations, but this place lives up to the hype. As I alluded to, it is extremely difficult to book a reservation for weekends so either do it early or make time during the week. It is located in the most unassuming little corner of Baltimore. Lucky for me, that corner happens to be right behind my apartment building. Ended up getting a last minute reservation at 9pm on a Friday night and headed over with 3 friends and 2 bottles of wine (wish I could give an extra star for BYOB!). The decor: so surprisingly charming. I would've never thought that shady little corner behind my bldg housed such an intimate, trendy-chic restaurant. The ambience is wonderful and it was obvious that everyone there was having a great time. Good for a romantic date or small group gathering. I believe you can rent out the place for private events as well. The service: warm and attentive. There's a very homey yet sophisticated feel to the place. The waiters and waitresses were great in seating us promptly, explaining the menu, and opening/serving our wine. The food: OMG THE FOOD! As if it couldn't get any better. The food was simply magical. They started us off with some plantain chips and this yummy green sauce. It was the perfect amount that left us wanting more. We then got the ceviche, lomo saltado, arroz con mariscos, and corderito de los andes. Finished off with flan for dessert. Everything was amazing. Looked amazing (see my pictures) and tasted like heaven. My personal favorite was the lomo saltado. I don't even know how to describe each dish because there are no words. While I love the food here, I won't be going back. Even though the chef comes to your table and asks about allergies, their allergy protocols are lacking; 2/3 times I've been there they served me food I explicitly told them several times I could not have. The first time I caught it but the second time I didn't. Sadly, I will also have to report to the celiac community to be weary of this place. Please do better if you're going to suggest you care about the medical needs of patrons. I'll be sick for a couple of weeks due to this negligence. read more

What a hidden gem! This compact restaurant of a couple dozen seats is tucked inside a wood clad contemporary exterior. Inside the clean, minimal space is a peek through to the kitchen and a view of the pensive, focused chef. We went on a Saturday summer evening with an early seating around 6:15. Other diners filed in after us with the restaurant filling around 7:30/8. The weekends produce a price fixe tasting menu. It is a sensory delight with each plate. The portions are perfectly sized if not just a bit large for a 7 course meal. Each course was a delight and well paced service by the chef. The evening is meant to be enjoyed over a couple hours. The menu Is seasonal with Peruvian dishes like ceviche and empanadas but with a twist. I loved the citrusy, salty ceviche lightened with coconut milk. Oh, the empanada was incredible! The crusty, light pastry filled with marinated diced chicken and caramelized onions. Each plate brought smiles and deep inhales of flavors. This is worth the trip and definitely another trip with friends. Chef Vittorio executed each dish with precision out of his tiny yet efficient kitchen. read more

I'm really between 3.5-4 stars on this place. I like the concept but I wasn't blown away by the food. I love that the chef comes out, seats you, takes your order, cooks your food, clears your plates, and brings you the check. Hard-working man! I had the lamb and had to make special requests for no dairy in my dish and the chef kindly accommodated and made a variation of the sauce, especially for me! Pretty impressive! There isn't a huge menu and I have a pretty limiting diet so there wasn't a lot for me to choose from. I think I'd like to try the paella next time. read more

I was in love with this meal at Puerto 511 - it was a Saturday so it was only the pre fixe menu. But everything was amazing (minus the dessert unfortunately). It totally tasted like I was in Peru again, but on an elevated status. The plates were stunning as they came from the kitchen. It was BYOB also, and I'm so glad the wine we brought was yummy and paired well with the dishes served. You could really taste the love that was put into the dishes. We were one of the last ones seated, which also means we were the last ones there at the end of the night. When I went to the restroom (in the basement), I was surprised to see that our waiter the entire night was also the executive chef! Highly recommend! read more

I love Puerto. I was checking every week to see if they decided to start doing take out . As soon as we could we ordered a date night dinner. We put the kid to bed and had the best dinner of quarantine. The food is as good as it always has been and I was shocked at how hot the entrees were even after driving home and eating the app course and ceviche course. We went with our favorites since it had been so long. The ceviche classico. The menu says it is the best in Baltimore but I've not had any better outside Baja del Sur. For my entree I went with the meal i craved most throughout my pregnancy Huancaina spaghetti. Man is this amazing and I've never had anything similar. It is spaghetti with a creamy sauce and rib eye steak. The flavors go together perfectly. My husband got the lomo saltado. Funny story, the first time he ever had lomo saltado was at Puerto and when he ordered it other places thereafter he was very disappointed and even thought maybe it was something different he ordered at Puerto. Anyway, the lomo saltado was as good as the first time! So glad they are doing take out. But looking forward to going back in for a pisco sour. read more

I've been wanting to try this spot but was unable to grab a reservation. First, the place is very quaint with Peruvian artwork displayed on the walls. There is a downstairs with seating and only 1 bathroom. The meal is 6 courses prix fix. We BYOB pisco to try sours which were pretty good. The service reminds me of Europe where there's opportunity between courses for conversation and sipping pisco sour of course. My advice is to bring someone you actually like spending time with and talking to. Every course was very tasty with tons of flavor but the portions are on the smaller side. Not a huge issue as you will be satiated, not stuffed, by the end. This particular night we were really hungry and thought " we're still gonna be hungry by the end" but we were fine. This is a hidden gem and I'm so glad I found it! The restaurant is very small (seats around 24) so I recommend making reservations. We ended up with 8 people instead of 6 and they were very flexible and pushed a table together for us. It is BYOB so bring your own if you want to drink. Also, it's price fix on Friday & Saturday. We were not there on a weekend, but now I want to go back and try that. They brought out banana chips and a creamy sauce to start. This was very nice, but the sauce has peanuts which given the number of peanut allergies these days should definitely be mentioned (it was not)!!! The menu is small, but has a good range of options. I decided I had to try the ceviche though which was an excellent choice. The fish was very fresh and the corn gave it a great crunch. Highly recommend. read more
