Public Storage 245 Hookston Road Pleasant Hill, CA 94523 Beware of the bait-and-switch tactics at this storage facility. My monthly rent for a storage unit went from $75 to $105 to $115, and now they've raised it again to $154. As a 70-year-old senior on a limited income, these outrageous increases are unacceptable. I'll rent a truck, ask friends for help, and move my belongings to another storage company than continue doing business with a place that treats customers this way. Previous Review: Beware Bait and Switch! Save yourself a lot of frustration and go elsewhere. I rented a storage unit from this location lured in with a special offer of reduced cost that was to remain in effect for the duration of the rental. A couple months later the price increased from $75 to $105. I called and spoke with the manager who could care less. She said I signed the contract that states they can raise the rate by any amount anytime. They raised the rate again this month to $115. They know moving my stuff to another storage facility will not be easy and cost me in time and money. I will get my things out and never use Public Storage again. read more

Security is terrible! I had a break in and they didn't even break my lock. The manager called me to inform me that the lock appeared to be tampered with. When I got there, I could not tell anything was different than usual. The unit was completely ransacked. My question is - how did the manager know? Was this an inside job? Very sentimental items that are irreplaceable were stolen. Do not leave anything in the unit that is meaningful to you! I was a client here for 3 years, in the past year they increased my rent twice. The notification I received on 2/29 was for an $80 increase!! I called on 3/1 to discuss and they never answer their phone. I noticed my card hadn't been charged yet so went there on 3/2 to discuss with the manager Chris. He said I could vacate but they would not prorate me and thanks so much for my business??? My husband and I moved everything to a MUCH better company not even a mile away. Public Storage is a Super shady company, do not rent here. They give you a good rate to get you in then raise it twice per year like clockwork. Horrible customer service!! read more

I would highlight the following issues: 1. Staff: not friendly. 2. Outside is pretty dirty, because there are no any trash cans! 3. Bugs: many huge bugs inside of building. 4. Toilet: staff close toilet in advance (1 before they are leaving. 5. Carts: there are only 2 carts, so if two tenants there you will need to wait for it. 6. Unit: doesn't have individual light, pretty dark inside tho! read more

They explained the increase was due to high demand. Interestingly they have plenty of units available - offering the same unit for less than I was initially paying. Good location. Pretty secure. In 15 years of storing I've had one break in and one flooded unit. Not bad for Walnut Creek. Like all Bay Area storage its pricey and increases are pretty regular. But what are you going to do? Small home or storing your parents items as they transition to a care home - must have paid storage. TERRIBLE VALUE: In Walnut Creek, CA, I have 2 rental units. For one unit I'm being charged $272/month when the current advertised rate for the same size unit in the same location is $138/month. On the other unit I'm being charged $714/month when the current advertised rate for the same size unit in the same location is $463/month. That is $385/month and $4,620/year over advertised rates for the same size units in the same location. I would not have known until I looked up rates for a friend. Absolutely annoying. We made a reservation for a day to come in. Somebody called us yesterday and we already informed them. Today, some Rody called up again, absolutely without customer relations skill, insensitive and asked us if we want to cancel reservation. Because of this, I decided to just cancel. Probably worth looking somewhere else. I had no real problems here but overall it's just not that good. The only have one cart outside. The have more locked up but the staff doesn't show up until 9:30. So if the one cart is gone you are out of luck. The staff is friendly enough but when you first rent the space they really sell the insurance and really don't want you to use your renters insurance to cover the insurance clause. Kinda shady. There is or recently was a class action lawsuit on the insurance scam. The place is kept clean and I experienced no access or security issues. The closing process was easy enough. read more

I have been here about a month and I received a call from Dominique that my unit was broken into today. I had two locks on the door. The thieves broke through an outside entrance door then took another door off the hinges and then into my unit. Security is a joke and they make you sign paperwork that you, not them, are responsible for theft. WTF I spend nearly $300 a month for storage and security and it is a joke. I lost over $20,000 of personal items. The police came and told me this is a regular occurrence at this place. DO NOT USE THIS STORAGE FACILITY. IT IS NOT SECURE! FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE. UPDATE: I have since been subpoenaed to appear in court in Martinez and testify against one of the alleged burglars. Good job WCPD!! Bad Job Public Storage. More of my time and money spent dealing with this problem! Your tax dollars are also being used to subsidize Public Storage's gross negligence. * This facility is not secure: AVOID IT. If I could give negative stars, I would. In June of 2019, my unit was broken into and thousands of dollar's worth of my possessions were stolen. I am navigating the insurance claim process but expect to have to go to court for full recovery. According to my legal counsel, as well as other online commenters, receiving compensation from their insurance co. (whose coverage they push on you) is like squeezing water from a rock. Please see the attached records from the WCPD. There are 50+ incidences of burglary reported at the address (not incl. the burglary of my unit + others). A key-code is required to enter, but not all the floors and exits are covered by cameras. This is nothing short of gross negligence. Shame on Public Storage (henceforth PS) for their reckless business conduct and disdainful treatment of their customers. Many reviewers note greedy price practices: I had 2 price increases in 12 mos: from $150 to $182 to $222 per month. TL;DR: DO NOT USE PS. THEIR SECURITY IS INADEQUATE AND CRIMINALS KNOW IT. At the time, the staff told me my unit was flagged in the system and it should have been fixed before being rented to me. They had knowingly rented me a lemon. One of my pieces of furniture had water damage, but the damage was less than the $100 deductible. I let it go. I spent several hours moving my belongings in to the new unit at my own expense. My original leaky unit had 1 door, locked with a cylinder lock. The new unit had 2 doors. The staff gave me a disc lock for the second door. At the time, I thought it was nice of them to provide the lock, given the reason for the move was their fault. Little did I know I was being setup as a target for robbery. Fast forward a few months and I got another rent increase. I called the district manager several times to try to negotiate it away. I felt I'd been very patient and understanding; I was a good sport about moving in to the new unit without complaint. I was shown zero respect. The manager never called me back. Then I was robbed and I decided to move out ASAP, so I ceded that fight. Back to the lock: on Father's Day (Sun) I got a message telling me my unit was breached on Sat PM. The hasp around the disc lock had been cut (see attached photo). If I had used a cylinder lock on the 2nd door, I probably would have been safe. But PS never told me that I was at greater risk of robbery using a disc lock. PS's documentation recommends cylinder or disc locks. I was never supposed to be in the 2nd unit, nor should I have been given a disc lock which would make me a target. PS found the burglary on Sat, but didn't tell me until Sun. WTF... I immediately went over to survey the damage. A police officer was there because several other units had also been breached. WCPD did a great job trying to catch the perps. Investigations are ongoing. WCPD reviewed security tapes, but unfortunately my unit was on a floor without cameras (2nd floor). The main doors require access codes and have cameras, but once inside, there are doors to the outside without cameras. The thieves could therefore get in and move stuff out the door unseen. The police theorized thieves could also put stolen goods inside other units and remove them later. I tried to contact the district MGR but he didn't return my call for like a week. He said PS wasn't responsible, and I should file with their insurance company. I told him my losses exceeded the coverage and I expected to be made whole. He told me to take a hike, basically. Despite there being 50+ INCIDENCES BURGLARY IN 5 YEARS, the WC facility is still not secure. Would you store your belongings there? read more

I moved into a 6x11 unit in 2010 for $142 mo. Rent will increase 7-10% per year forever. This year, they informed me my new rent price would be $381, a 10% increase (+$40) over last year. Meanwhile, they are advertising the same sized unit to new customers for $182 mo. How does this make any sense? So a new customer can pay $182 mo. but if you are a long standing loyal customer, you end up paying more the double that price for the same unit? I requested a rate reduction to the advertised price and they would only offer a $40 mo. discount otherwise I would have to move out of my unit and into a different until in order to get the current pricing. If you plan on being a long term tenant, beware of the annual price increase and move into a new unit or request a rent freeze when you start being charged more than their current advertised pricing. read more

If someone has an eight page agreement with lots of small print , buyer beware . So - I've rented here twice. The first time was a pretty darn good experience . The second time - not so much. I hired someone , paying them $450.00, to move me to another storage company because I'm just tired of the broken access entry system, and the ever increasing rates , which happen about 60 days into the new rental. The people at the front desk stated they didn't get notice of my vacating (which was sent via certified mail, USPS indicates it's delivered). These guys are bad news . Reservations mean absolutely nothing here. My wife made a reservation for a storage unit and I booked the movers. When the movers were half done packing up my wife went to public storage to check in on our unit. She learned that they had just given away our unit the day before to someone else. So here we were with a moving truck full of our belongings and nowhere to put it. Absolutely atrocious!! We relied on them and they totally fleeced us. By the way, when my wife went to see the units in the basement she felt it was the kind of place that Hannibal Lecter would hang out. Avoid like the plague!! read more

Access to units has been down for *THREE* days. I called today and spoke with someone in the office who was able to offer an apology. They are indeed aware of the problem yet have not found it necessary to communicate the outage to customers who, instead are showing up, unloading cars and large trucks only to find out they cannot access their units. On Sunday night people were locked out of their units in the middle of moves and had to leave with their unit doors wide open. Tonight however, they were "nice" enough to print signs (attached photos) and haphazardly tape them to elevator doors and dial pads like they were running away from a problem. Which they are. Public Storage "Customer service" offers zero help and will end the call mid sentence (happened three times). Call center supervisors are unavailable and you have to leave a voice message. I've left three in three days and not one has been returned. Multiple calls and voice mails have been left with district superiors who have not returned the calls either. I am at a complete LOSS as to how this is even remotely acceptable to Public Storage There are multiple other storage facilities in the area. Take your business to one we them instead of risking being locked out of your units for days on end. I would be ELATED for someone from Public Storage to respond and defend this. read more

The manager is rude and misleading and changes up rules not written at s moments notice... My second day after paying in full for a whole month... Which is a lie..you don't get the second month free..they gladly informed me that the promotion was not offered in their store even tho it's clearly advertised... So my 2nd night was followed up by an area supervisor telling to vacate the facility cuz I lost track of time organizing my space that I paid $180 for up front.. they made me buy their lock for $20 just to terminate me 2 days after I started moving my belongings from Antioch using Bart as my only means of transportation... Great atmosphere...they treated me as if I was being insubordinate and combative and honestly..she's not my boss coworker or nothing to me and I was more polite and courteous than she was since day one.. threatening to have me removed cuz I was over the bullshit 2 hour a day time limit your allowed for visiting your own belongings.. no customer service skills except to take your money and run and evict me for ignorant reasoning after only 2 days of paying my lease...store your belongings elsewhere..not here in walnut creek California read more

This is a negative 1 star review. Everything is fine until your valuable possession are all stolen. Their 8 page contract completely indemnifies this Public Storage from any break ins of which they take zero responsibility. People rent from a public storage trusting and believing that their belongings are safe and secure inside. But this Public Storage does not have properly functioning security cameras to capture thief's images in some locations of this storage, if not all locations. One tenant's unit was just completely burglarized. 25 thousands of dollars of his profession equipment was stolen that he uses to serve the community. He's devastated. But the management has told him that he can't even post this list within the storage unit to notify others. The management is more concerned with hiding a crime so as not to scare customers, rather than take responsibility for, at the least, not having functioning security cameras. Furthermore, their 8 page contract completely indemnified them so they could create the "perfect crime". This unit was to easy to break into. That's not what you expect from a storage company. Functional security cameras are a no brainer for a storage company. But not here. Again, Beware of this 8 page contract and this Public Storage. Don't roll the dice here. read more

Currently locked out of my storage unit. Today I recieved a email stating that the lock on my unit wasnt properly locked so i went down to investigate. My gate code does not work tells me to call manager. Funny thing is I haven't been to my unit since the end of july. So why am I just now getting notified in the middle of October that my lock isnt on right? Im paid up on my unit fully. So why can i not enter?
