The girl that works here is truly an angel- I wish I got her name. When I moved in, I was exhausted, after helping my Uncle move from his home to our home with us here in California. As I was pulling glass out, it broke everywhere. It was the last thing I needed and I was without anything to pick it up. This sweet girl came over and reassured me nothing was wrong and helped me clean it up. I was truly on the verge of just crying when it happened-I was so tired from the emotional part of removing an 82 year old man from his home, the mental part from the logistics and curation of the move, physically clearing a two story house in a weekend and driving from Vegas to San Diego (0 stars- do not recommend lol). Her kindness and understanding went a long way for me. We finally were able to pull the items out of the unit yesterday. It was a busy day so there were no dollies available. There was this sweet angel again. She went out of her way to bring me one that just became available without me even asking for it. Don't rent here. Ever! My daughter signed up for. Storage unit on line on the 19th. But she had to sign up in person at office. So she went there at 4:30 and the office was closed. Huh? There's a number to call to make an appointment. She went back the next day. The office was still closed. Call the number and you get a recording. Never get a call back. So it's impossible to make an appointment. So I went to the office at 1:00 on the 21st. Office was locked up. I waited for a half hour. Finally. "David" showed up. I had my suv loaded up and I wasn't allowed to unload. I made an appointment for 4:00 for my daughter at another location. She left work early for this important appointment. We arrived at 4:30. Again all locked up. Three days running. So we went to the other location. It was Locked up at 5:00. What? So she has paid for at least 3 days without getting access to her unit. We made 4 trips to each of the offices, Eight phone calls to an answering machine. Wow! According to the website our second payment is due September 19th. I was supposed to pick my granddaughter up at school, a second grader. But remember my SUV was all loaded with boxes for storage. read more

we just rented a unit here at the Palm ave. location through an online sale. little did we know that the location office is rarely open and NO ONE is available to help customers. there are no hours of operation posted on site and the website has wrong hours listed. a call center number is posted on the front door which gets you to a call center that gives contradictory information and no help. once we were told that the office has "part-time hours" and the next time we called we were told that the office is open "by appointment only"! I've never heard of such a thing! Public Storage advertises itself as a hub for "all your storage needs including packing materials etc. Not at this place! It's a deserted waist land. My husband and I decided to rent a storage unit from this facility on October 4, 2019 we spoke with a very nice woman over the phone who assisted us with making the reservation. We were told prior to renting the unit verbally and over the phone if we turned in our keys and had the unit cleared out by the 4th of November (we wouldn't be charged the next month) we were moving from the Bay Area (San Francisco CA area to Imperial Beach) we only needed the unit for 3 short weeks during the moving process. We explained this to the lady and they had a really great deal ($1.00 first month + taxes and fees totaling approximately $25.00) Sounds Great! We went to turn in our keys and talk to the receptionist on November 2nd and November 3rd in which she wasn't available the door was locked and a sign was left on the door. We called 10+ x and nobody answered the phones. We came back in on November 4th after we discovered our account had been charged the full amount for the month of November. When we arrived on November 4th the doors were locked once again and a note stating will return in (30) mins. Waited and finally a girl shows up to the front desk: we explained the situation and she said there was nothing she could do, she couldn't authorize a refund. I contacted the "district manager" named Rob Fragoso (who's clearly a joke) he was so friendly reassured me he would profess the refund that evening and he was on his way home he would call me back in an hour (never got a call) Called him back and spoke with him on two separate occasions and reassured me again we would get a refund and he would call me back (never got a call) Another week goes by and I called him 5 + more times and emailed him (never called me or emailed me back) Almost two weeks later we haven't received a refund. I plan on notifying everyone here in imperial beach to stay away from renting a unit here, I plan on contacting the corporate office, I plan on leaving every review possible. My husband just got laid off the union and we are tight on money "Rob" shows no sympathy or remorse. I'm beyond frustrated with having to play this game of getting my money back. If you're smart DO NOT rent a unit from this place if you intend on being scammed for your money!!! read more

I'm not one to trash or bad mouth a company or people but I feel that I have to write this review to share my bad experience with "Public Storage" on Palm Avenue to make others aware. First off, November 2018 I found a great deal with them online with them and we went ahead and reserved space. While we were registering for the space in person, the man we met in the front office told us that it is mandated that we have to buy the locks for the storage from them which was overpriced and secondly, they also made us buy the safety insurance from them without opting out from it. The big thing that I am going to complain about was that we were (told) that the storage rate will be locked in for a year and if the rate happens to go up that it would only increase by $10-20 max. The man emphasized that they hardly ever increase fees. To fast forward to April 2019, only 5 months later. We received a noticed that our storage fee would be INCREASED BY $65 . When we reached out to Public Storage to question the huge increased, we were told that they are under new management and that the guy we signed the contract with gave us the wrong information. You would think that under new management, they would work with us or offer a new deal with their current customers to keep them. However, they insisted on the mandated increased fee. So, we moved out. I realized that they probably capitalizing on our navy or military families around the areas because they are so close to the military base. On the day that we were moving out, there was also another family that was moving out also for the same reason. I was able to find another storage company in Chula Vista for the same storage size for a cheaper rate than they gave us on the specials. Plus, we were not required to buy locks, supplies, and safety insurance form them. Again, I am writing this review to make people aware of the bait and switch they did on me and to save people from the hassle of moving from one storage to another in just a very short period of time. read more

I definitely think they know it would be difficult to move stuff out during COVID so they are taking advantage of the situation. Stay away. Steer clear for long term storage. After 6 months without issues and always on time payments we were slapped with an over 20% rent increase. When we asked the manager he indicated that this was pretty much business as usual for public storage. What kind of business punishes loyalty like this? Also, if you want to talk to anyone that is physically located on the property, don't bother calling. Their phone number goes through an off site location first, then once you get transferred to the local manager they will not answer. So yesterday I make a reservation for a 15 x 10 when I show up this morning 10 minutes before the time required for me to be there 10 AM I arrive to meet a nice lady working behind the counter and immediately told that they had rented my unit that I had on reservation for the very next morning to bring my load of stuff in and told that I could rent a smaller unit 10 x 10 after she shows the 10 x 10 X I expressed to the lady that I would take the unit as long as it didn't cost any more than the 189 for the larger unit so basically I was willing to get a smaller unit for the same price as the large unit so we go downstairs to try to finish up the paperwork and she tells me not only is the 10 x 10 going to cost more but it's 200 times more than the large unit so after calling their customer service which was terrible the customer service lady telks me she cannot help me that the price was the price then the girl behind the counter proceeds to try to find me a new location in Chula Vista refusing the location I went with a different company A1 public storage on Hollister much better facility and they don't try to hoodwink ya , A1 is just that A-#1 You guys at public Storage,,, you suck! My bf was moving and needed storage options. This public storage was close, clean, and accessible. When we first got there @9:30, the door was locked. No sign, no explanation, and they opened at 9. My bf called the number on the side of the building and started talking to headquarters about reserving a unit. ***note to management....if you only have one employee working and he/she is showing a unit & you need to lock the door LEAVE A NOTE! I think it's common sense! You're going to lose customers if your door is locked after the sign says you're open*** Rant done! Once we got inside, Ronald was very nice and thorough with the process. He showed us a unit and got us the best deal possible. After seeing the unit there was a lot of paperwork to go through, so be prepared to stay for at least 30 mins. It's all necessary and Ronald talked as quickly as he could to get through it. One little gripe was you have to "check out" carts or dollys when you're using your unit. And the office opens at 9am while the gates open at 6am. When we went the next day to load up the unit before 9am, there was a cart right in front of the elevator that we used! So if you go early, pray there is one waiting for you too!! Overall a good experience. read more

Unfortunately I was told I have to pay the whole month. I trying asking Jorge and rob if I could only paid up to the 13th. As I've rented storages before and it's never been an issue.. I was told no.So I'm obligated to pay the whole month the $132.. It's insane because that unit will be vacated on the 13th.. Is this how you guys get your money! I needed a storage place urgently and came in to see this location. I hadn't made any reservation when I walked in. I was helped by Rachel who was very nice and went out of her way to assist me. She was professional and knew her job. She guided me with my reservation and gave me tips about packing, moving and storage. Employees like her are the real backbone of a business and I would definitely go back to this location and would recommend the same to my friends as well. TWO THUMBS UP RACHEL, THANK YOU. This Public Storage location is clean and well lit but the only problem I saw was that the driveway and outside area have leaves scattered all over which does not look good. Also, Public Storage should have extended hours (0500-1100) instead of the hours now which are 0600 to 2100. In all it was a great experience. read more

Nice storage units HOWEVER you must buy their locks that cost 18 dollars! The front desk sales lady was nice at first then started to get pushy when I questioned why she was forcing me to buy their insurance! She never gave me a choice or asked me if I had my own insurance!!! She said in summary : you are required to have insurance on your unit and handed me a brochure and said to pick a monthly plan! I asked her why I needed to buy their insurance and she said it said it in the contract and I asked her to show me the contract! She said she was typing it and needed to print it but I needed to pick an option! I told her I had homeowners insurance and she asked all these questions as if I was some idiot who was going to buy into her forcing me to buy something I knew I didn't HAVE to purchase!!! I did not need to show her proof nor did I HAVE to buy their insurance ! Then she said I could write decline and sign!!! REALLY???? So i really never HAD to purchase the insurance to begin with and I'm sure the employees make commission on the insurance!!! I used to sell extended warranties on electronics and believe me the commission is a good chunk of change! THEN the sales lady seemed to get irritated when I started to READ the contract and lines that I was required to sign!!! She told me " you will be getting a copy of everything you sign"! SERIOUSLY??? I told her I understood I would be receiving a copy however I AM SIGNING on the dotted line and need to realize what I was signing before I just sign!!! That's how people get screwed because they sign after receiving a brief summary ! She treated me like an uneducated person! am glad I will only need the storage unit for less than 2 months and if I wasn't paying a uhaul per mile I would have gone somewhere else based on my experience with this employee! read more

Ok. They started out good. I had retuned from Iraq and needed a place to put my household goods. Of course they are going to help and of course the only thing they had was on the second floor and the largest one. $170 a month. Then I go right into another deployment and mid way through I get a letter stating the amount of my rent jumped to 190. WTF! I can't even call or e-mail due to our restricted comms. I love this place! It is very easy to find!. They have really good security. The place is very accessible. In the office they sell all the supplies you could possibly need. Rachel and Shelsey are amazing. They both helped my wife and me out when we first moved our stuff into the unit. They recommended the best boxes or items in order to maintain our unit organized which we purchased right there. They really go above and beyond for us. Everytime we go there they address us by our first names and treat us like we are family. We are thankful for all the help they have given us. The units are amazing and safe. I recommend using someone else. You may want to clarify what the $22 administration fee is for... as Public Storage would not allow me to cancel a contract... just a couple hours after signing it. According to people at other storage sites, that kind of fee is in place precisely because sometimes clients need to cancel a contract. An employee of Public Storage actually asked me if I'd "still be using the space" after telling me I absolutely could not back out of the contract. Odd timing. Calls to business, district manager and regional manager went unreturned. I had to ask my bank to retrieve my funds... as I was charged for something I didn't use. read more
