Now that I am Yelping a lot I wanted to give my overall review about my time with Otay Self storage. i will give the pros and cons and also some tips :) Hopefully the names are accurate its been a while. I was a customer for about 7-8 years. I signed my first lease when this was half the size and the 2nd half was all dirt. The manager at the time I think her name was Lydia was very nice and half the reason why i went with this location. The other half of my decision was location. If your looking for the closest storage unit near the border, this is it. You can walk to here in a good 10-15 mins fromn the border. I had a large prime storage unit right in front. I kept my SUV and several belongings in there. Since Lydia, I believe the next manager was Luis? and then Humberto. They were also very nice and i was sad to see Luis go, he was awesome. Here are the Pro's about this place - Extremely secure, never had anything stolen nor heard of anything being taken from this lot. They have several camera and overnight roaming security. It's so secure that if a cat gets in, it can set off the sensors. I've been there in the early am before they opened when security would come by and do a check for motion sensors. Both times it was a cat running around :) See my pic of one of the cat burglars :) Location - everyone says location is key -it is located in a corner sort of (It used to be a closed off road years ago, but since have opened it up to traffic. It is very close to the border. Staff - Turnover wasn't a big issue when I was there, they had mostly the same staff with just a few manager changes. All extremely friendly, even to the point when they were ready to close, I would call them from the freeway and they would stay open a few extra mins for me. Units - the units themselves were in great shape. Early arrival- Most employees were early arrivals in the morning, that helps people that need to go to work on time. Giveaways -people are always giving free stuff away to each other. I had several storage neighbors that gave me excess stuff they weren't using and also when they are moving out. I returned the favor and gave away furniture and some electronics when I moved out. Cons: Very few: Rodents, sorry its Otay and there are lots of open fields out here. That's a fact of life and nature, nothing Otay Storage has done wrong. The units themselves can get dusty and dirty over time, please keep that in mind when storing valuables. Cars can sometimes block your unit, it can be a pain to find them and tell them to move. Especially when you under time restraints. This applies to outdoor units. They had free Wi-Fi then it got abused so they took it away. Not sure if it's back on again. Tips: Get a ground level unit, it can get extremely hot in these units during the summer and the last thing you want to do is go with an upstairs storage unit. Buy covers for your mattress and valuables, it can get dusty and should keep the little rodents out. Overall treat the employees with respect and that is what you will get right back. I loved my time here and I was sad to go. if I ever need a unit again you got my business!

Office staff took great pleasure in denying my attempts to pay my bill. Refused cash in hand. Don't trust these unethical people. They lie by not omissions. They accept your agreeded upon date to pay but don't mention you can't pay online. You call to make payment like the website instructed to be told no again. Now you are in office trying to pay and refused again. You come back with cash and refused again because now they added hundreds more claiming also late but it wasn't not even by one day late. We stopped by the A Storage Place's Del Sol location to check out their prices and availability. There is a lot to like about this place. This is in a nice location where the surrounding area is not too crowded or busy. They have daily office hours from 9am-6pm. Gate hours for tenants is from 5am-8pm. They seem to have a lot of security measures - special access to get onto the premises and through any door, as well as surveillance cameras. There are a variety of unit sizes; it is just a matter of finding an available one in the size that you need. They have a number of units that have access from the outside and also some that are completely indoors. Their buildings have AC which is a major plus! Indoor units also have access to carts that may be used to move belongings to and from and elevators for areas with a second floor. They also have music playing quietly throughout which is especially great for the indoor units so that it is not all quiet and eerie. All areas looked to be clean and well maintained. The staff was very nice and helpful. And, prices seemed to be reasonable. The only downfall for us was availability, which is definitely not a negative thing to judge them by. Guessing they really are as good as they appear, so why wouldn't their units be pretty much filled up?

Thank goodness none of the…read moreother storage places had availability because we just bit the bullet and paid more to store it inside at Big Toy. We have NEVER regretted it. We never have to worry about our motorhome critters getting into it; no worries about someone cutting off your catalytic converter or the sun baking your rig. We love BTD. Our motorhome gets washed, the battery is charged when we need to pick it up, and they will also fill the water tank. BTD offers other services; we have only used the battery service. Everyone at BTD is super friendly, and the facility is secure and immaculate. Calling and having them pull out the rig for pickup or on-site repairs by your mechanic is easy. Our rig is 14 years old and looks like new.
