I needed to rent a 10 x 20 foot space for my home while I was in transition. I looked at the various storage facilities in Chula Vista, and I found Extra Storage via Yelp. The prices were low so I rented a storage facility month-to-month, with the first month's free. The rent is due on the first of the month. My lease was up on January, 2015. I had 98% of my items out of storage by the end of December, with a few remaining boxes that I planned to take out at the end of December. On Christmas Day, my sister's roommates were brutally murdered in their home. I had to attend to my family's emergency (finding her a new place to live), and I called Extra Storage explaining that I was out of the San Diego area and needed an extra 2 days to attend to personal issues. I was told that if I took my items out on Jan 2 (mind you, they were closed and I could not access the unit on January 1st), that they would charge me an extra $235 for the extra day NO EXCEPTIONS. Every item had to be out by Dec 31st. I had to drive 6 hours round trip from north of Los Angeles to avoid the $235 fee for an extra 2 days of storage (no, they wouldn't even pro-rate the rent). These are the most inflexible, heartless people on the planet who work here. I told them I'd put this review online and I hope their business suffers as a result. Go take your business to another facility that has an ounce of compassion or reason (i.e. pro-rating me for an extra 2 days of use). read more

DO NOT RENT HERE! We had our storage broken into and had our tv stolen. The manager told us she was going to look into it, that it has happened before. We get a call the next day saying she told the people to return the stuff no questions asked. So our tv was safe. We get there and it's the wrong tv and she goes on to say we should've been more specific. So, he's been stealing from other places? But she goes on saying that we can't look at the cameras and that we should've filled a police report the day before. So now we're filling a report. Save yourself the time and headache and don't rent here! read more

I've rented a space from this facility for 17 years now. I'm thinking it would have been better to sell the stuff or give it away in most cases than to pay to store it. I don't feel like a valued customer here. When I got the space it was convenient. At the time it was the lowest priced storage in Chula Vista. As one reviewer stated and I've found this true they are not flexible or in my opinion accommodating. I in no way feel valued or cared about. I could be proved wrong if they offered me a senior or veterans discount, offered me a discount for having 2 spaces. Set up an arrangement where I pay 1 time a month for both spaces instead of 2 to make things easier for me. On the positive side the place is clean, and well maintained. It would be a better value for my money if my spaces had an electric outlet and a light.would be better if there was 24 hour access to my units. All things considered Perhaps I was a bit generous with my star rating. I can't in good conscience recommend them for the reasons I've mentioned. read more

This place sucks!! I merely had some of my stuff directly outside my storage and need to put some screws in a box I needed to ship some things and a guy drives by and tells me I can't do that there. Total BS. He is on some kind of power trip. I see people working on their cars with hoods open and tools everywhere. Others blocking the road so we can can't drive by with all kinds of stuff out of the storage spaces and I don't see them being told anything. I left plenty of room for cars to pass and was in no way causing any problems. In fact I was doing the same thing the previous day and other works passed by and said nothing. I will change storages as soon as possible. read more

You can't beat the price!. Definitely the best price in town. Its not your typical air conditioned, 24 hour access, nice flooring kind of storage but who cares...as long as it stores your crap and its safe thats all that matters. This is the second time we use this storage facility because of their great pricing. They always have some sort of special going on. When we first got our storage unit, they had a half off special for the first three months. We paid only $35 bucks for a 5x10. After the three months, its $70 a month. BUT if you yelp them, there is an extra 10% off!!! SWEET DEAL! The lack of star is because the hours do suck. And the people there do so as well. WIth the exception of this one blonde woman who is really nice and helpful. The other older couple not so much. As for hours, definitely give yourself enough time to move in/out. We made the mistake of arriving at 5:45 when it closed at 6:15p. WIth half our crap in the hallway we were literally being kicked out. Older woman with an accent and incredibly rude... pretty much told me she didn't care if i left my shit in the hallway but she was going to lock the place down and kick us out. Seriously lady, calm down, it was only 6:18pm.!!!! Geez. They really lack in their personable, friendly customer services skills. Whatever. Like Joel G. says I wasn't there to see them, i was there just to store my stuff. So if your looking for a good deal and don't mind the hours and dealing with a crappy person this is the place to go. From the moment I walked in the door her warm welcome made me feel like I had finally found the right place to store my belongings. pros... located and seemingly tiny little storage place in chula vista. from the front all you see is the gate and a little building, but there is so much more behind the gate. it is a sprawling maze of two story buildings. the people that run the place, or who i saw are very no nonsense people, they are all business. not very friendly in the least. but they do offer a clean, if not older buildings to store your stuff. very reasonably priced too. i was quoted $47 a month for a 5'x10' 2nd story place. that's down right cheap. cons... don't expect much in friendly or happy faces when you come into the little front building. they guy was not a happy camper, but who cares i didn't go there to see him. read more

I found the facility close to home, easy to use, and in pretty good shape. In the office, Tame was VERY helpful and accommodating. She honored our Senior discount and helped us set up a workable plan for longer term use of our unit. She even provided a free lock which we keep when we leave the system. The aisles are a bit narrow, especially if someone parks there for an extended time to clean fishing gear, work on their car or whatever, but those decisions are not the fault of the company or the staff. Providing better toileting facilities would be a great improvement, but the time needed for upkeep would also be a consideration. The portapotties were clean, at any rate, and their use here probably helps keep my rates down. Moving my storage needs here saved me a considerable amount of money and definitely saves me time. I would not recommend no stars the staff are shady and very rude and they stereotype people my stuff got stuck in the elevator and I had to pay for a bigger one on the bottom just because I did not want to use the stairs to put my things in the storage I originally got because they said it was my fault the elevator was broken no mechanic on site and inconvenience when I had to be out of my place the next day it wasn't right at all and them treating me with no respect they are so fake cause with another customer they were nice to I would say discriminating because I look Hispanic and the new customer. Unlike other reviews: I think all of the staff is very nice and helpful. Also, they have the best price in town... I did the actual leg work and asked pricing from many storage places, compared pricing, discounts and I couldn't find a better price. Also, I feel comfortable that my stuff is safe, the ladies at the front desk are always monitoring who goes in and comes out, and they also actually review the security videos! I mean... who does that? Great Job! Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that it doesn't have lighting inside the storage units and it has limited access hours, which would be great if you have a business. We had been renting a unit at this storage facility for 2 years when someone broke in and STOLE 75% OF OUR BELONGINGS, the workers refused to show any kind of sympathy, treated us extremely rudely and on top of it all...added insult to injury in a couple separate situations. We upgraded our unit to a larger unit and there was a maintenance worker hovering over us the entire time we were moving our stuff, we even noticed he had taken a picture. 2 weeks later, when we were trying to pull something out of the unit we realized our lock was all banged up...after hours of not being able to open it, it finally pops open and we realize our stuff has been stolen. We call the lady at the front desk, 20 minutes later she shows up to take pictures for a report. She tells us to put the lock on the door even though we explained that the lock was broken and it took a lot to get it off, she insists. Needles to say the lock would not come off anymore after that. We asked if they could cut it off, she says that we need to pay $38 to have that done and also pay for a new lock. When we finally said "ok just take it off" she said, no because it was too late in the day and it would have to wait until Monday (2 days later) their facility closes at 6 and it was only 4, we were outraged. When the manager finally shows up, 3 days later, she was even less helpful than the secretary. She kept smirking and laughing at our disappointment and basically told us to leave and not come back. We have strong suspicion that it was an inside job, the maintenance worker knew what we had in our unit, the person who took our stuff had all the time in the world to do it because there was a lot of stuff in there that was very heavy and we were located in the 2nd floor. Also, the bash marks in the wall around the beaten lock had fresh paint over them, the exact 2 colors as the rest of the wall. There are ZERO cameras on their entire facility, but 9 cameras at the front gate. There's nothing that can be done for my stuff anymore but I figure I'd write this review so it doesn't happen to anyone else. STAY AWAY! read more

One of the best priced storage facility in the area!!! Not only are they priced well but have excellent move in specials and the highest military discounts around. I went on a friday to look at a unit and got one the same day also got a free disc lock. Also if u need to rent a Uhaul truck u can do that there as well for a reasonable price. All in all i feel like this Storage facility was the best bang for my buck and would recommend them to anyone i knew looking. read more

I had my wife look up some storage spots online she happened to run into this place. We purchased/ rented the storage online and paid with my credit card prior to arriving to the location. Once we arrived my wife explained that we had purchased/ rented a space and had a confirmation email along with the space she rented. Immediately the lady working the front which I don't know her name since she didn't take the time to formally introduce herself, instead she shut us up by telling my wife that they did not rent storage online, that there is no way we could of done that. I asked her well do you guys have a website?? I got no answer completely ignored me. I asked the same question again and once again she blew me off. For the third time I asked basically everyone in the office and not one person could tell me if they have a website. Frustrated I pulled up the email along with my bank statement and showed her that we had already been charged $64.00 to my card for a space, well she looks at me and starts talking to my wife. By this time I'm already pissed off so I back off the counter and she tells my wife there is no way you could of done that, because you have to fill out a paper contract and pulls it out and starts waiving it like if we can't see it. By this time I'm completely done trying to communicate anything with this bold lady, I walked out and waited in the car. After 30 minutes of filling out the "contract" my wife comes out and tells me to pull up to the gate and enter our pin to access the storage facility. I entered the pin more than 8 times and it didn't work, we finally called the office and they still had not set up our pin. Waited another 2'minutes of so and it finally worked. Once inside I wanted to write down the pin in my wallet so I walked to the front office once again and kindly asked the same old lady if I could please borrow a pen for a few seconds, she said no I'm sorry we are very limited with our pens!!! Are you kidding me??? I thought to myself so I turned around and walked to my storage space, when I was walking away I herd her make a rude noise and say something to her co worker between her teeth. I felt like turning around and asking for my money back at the moment. I could of gotten a month free and less of a hassle for only $37.00 but I bit my tongue and walked away. This was the worst customer service I've ever experience in any type of business I've been a manager for several wireless communication companies for 14 years and our main focus in customer service. This place obviously only has one thing in mind... Collecting $$$ once they do your on your own. Once we were leaving the place we had to enter our pin to exit the gate and our pin was disabled. Tried a few times and nothing as if they were sitting on their desk watching us struggle I get off to go speak to someone and sure enough the gate opens then she comes out talking about make sure you enter the right pin!!! Ugh I don't recommend thus storage to anyone unless you want to be treated like a just another crumbled up dollar. read more

This is my first time to use Extra Storage. I was really impressed! They've got a two storey big building, clean and safe facility. The staff are awesome. They are polite and assist their customer really well. There was a time that I couldn't find my unit number and their roving staff drove me with his lil cart and showed me my spot. They also have very good deals & I guess their deals are unbeatable in Chula Vista area. If you looking for a safe, clean & big storage for your stuff Extra Storage is good place. Don't EVER rent a Uhaul from this facility! I moved this weekend and had paid movers ready and waiting. I placed a reservation well in advance online and received a confirmation code for a Uhaul truck. I show up at the appointment time to pick up my truck and am told they have no trucks! They could care less that I had paid movers waiting and that I was under the gun to get a truck. They took their time online and proceeded to tell me no other trucks were available. They then changed and said I could drive 20 miles away and get a truck. They promised they put in the reservation for me. Uhaul charges by the mile so I was going to have to eat that cost of a 40 mile roundtrip travel just to get a truck. I then showed up to the other location only to find out that no truck was available!!! Thankfully the manager at the other place was awesome and I was able to work something out through him and still move. If you must have a vehicle available and you presume one will be there because you make a reservation RESERVING a truck, do not anticipate it actually being there if you rent through these guys! VERY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE guys! read more
