Save yourself the drain on your finances and just don't. When we started renting a large unit, the monthly was $189. Then the rates start increasing. By the time we made our last rental payment, it was $553. And about that last payment - our final visit to take the lock off the unit was one day into the next month. One day. Watching $553 leave my checking account for one day, well, it doesn't give you good feelings about this company. Btw, the current advertised rate for this very unit is $234. The longer you rent, the more they sock it to you. So if you're thinking about using this company to store your extra belongings, think long and hard if it's worth it. For the money you spend at this place, you can re-buy your items. read more

horrible issue with moving out and cancelling my contract with the unit.. they intentionally made it extremely difficult to have any interaction or communication with my cancelling my storage unit and use. i would say they are abusive, intentionally difficult to communicate with and should not be allowed to continue with their abusive and aggressive way of blocking any online or phone communication with wanting to end a rental contract. george mead read more

I've had storage at the facility for more than a few years and have some recommendations for anyone wanting to rent a unit or two. 1. Units of the same size have different rates depending on whether they are in the climate controlled building or have outdoor access, are on the ground floor or if you need to use the elevator. The rates also change with time of year and availability. Watch and wait and you'll end up getting a unit of the right size at a good price. 2. Rent can slowly increase until you are paying more than double within two years. To avoid that problem... 3. Move units when you can. Some months there is a flurry of activity as people move their stuff into cheaper but same sized units. It happens on the last day of the month. I've done this several times. I wish they valued their loyal tenants instead but there is no rent control for storage facilities. There should be. 4. Don't prop the door or gate or open it to strangers. Don't just go in without entering your code. I've never had my units broken into but have heard about it happening to others. So don't give thieves access. Typically people who don't have the code are not the tenant but are just doing a favor, getting items, or are movers. Regardless, they don't legally have the right to be in there so don't do them any favors. Same thing goes for the cart and dolly lock. Don't share the combo. 5. Watch the insurance charge on your bill. They automatically add insurance when you sign your contract. The entire process is questionable. 6. Manager will walk the facility and may check on you so don't be startled. Most of the staff are pleasant. Sometimes they have a clip board or broom but not always. Just be aware. ---- I'm giving 4 stars this time because my rent went up too many times. I downsized to a smaller and cheaper unit and am happy with it. Convenience is good. read more

Public Storage payment and receipt system is totally sc---ed up! The storage office called me to say my Auto Pay was denied when the payment section says I am enrolled in Auto Pay with a valid debit card. Further, I manually paid my bill on line and have not received a receipt which my profile clearly states I wish to have. The marginally helpful storage office agent said she would forward my information about payment to "IT", whoever that is. Really, one would think with an organization this big, the billing system would be a breeze. IT IS NOT A BREEZE. It is a mine field of confusion and lousy programming. I intend to move out and go with a local business where I can actually talk to a human being about my billing and payments. Totally dissatisfied. read more

I had a wonderful unit but when they raised my rent by 24% it was too much considering I could get a comparable unit for around a third of what I was going to be paying. They were not willing to work with me. They offered a $77 discount for 6 months after raising my rent by close to $100/month. So will be moving a headache but worth the money I will be saving. read more

I have a storage unit on the third floor and I've come here too many times to count with elevator broken and I couldn't access my unit. Trashy, unmaintained and unkempt facilityand they are just collecting your money and not maintaining ANYTHING. If you need a cheap place to store things for a long time and you never have to pick things up, this is your spot. If you ever need to visit your unit to get anything stay real far away from this shithole because you won't be able to access it half the time and nobody is there to help. I found this facility to have the best rates out of all the places I checked people to choosing one. I did it online which was a snap and then downloaded their PS APP. When I found out you didn't even have to get out of your car to activate the gate to open or close, and it worked the first time I pulled up to enter, WOW I was so happy I did! Worth customer service ever. I have had shoes that were stolen, which was an inside job. I have had no help from management regarding all customer assistance. They have chafed their hours and have hugely affected entry but yet still charge you their outrages prices. The District manager makes no sense trying to explain their COVID 19 safety measures, just horrible service all around. read more

If I could give PUBLIC STORAGE A ZERO RATING - I WOULD! WARNING! If you or someone you know rents a storage unit from the Company, "PUBLIC STORAGE" in PETALUMA -- YOU WILL WANT TO READ THIS! My husband Christian has been an art collector for nearly 15 years. Today, he received an email from a Bay Area woman who asked whether he was interested in selling a specific piece of art by Luke Chueh. When he told her he would sell the piece for X amount, she replied by saying, she had that piece in her possession and was just trying to figure out the value of the piece. She went on to say that she found it in a storage unit she bought at auction in Emeryville. We were confused because it's an Original and that piece is in our Public Storage Unit in Petaluma. After doing some research, we found the woman had listed the painting on EBAY! We immediately drove over to Public Storage located on Transport Way in Petaluma and found that our entire unit had been RANSACKED. The lock on the unit was still in-tact. It was not broken or cut off. The thief/thieves were either able to pick the lock or perhaps had a bump key. What's even more maddening is PUBLIC STORAGE SOLD US THE LOCK! Makes you wonder, who actually stole our art?! I'd like to add, our unit was an indoor unit on the second floor. These units are temperature controlled (to preserve the art). In order to get upstairs, you need to punch in a code to access the second floor. We are beside ourselves right now. NEARLY 40 pieces of ORIGINAL ART worth a very significant amount of money stolen from the Company, "PUBLIC STORAGE" in Petaluma. But more than the money, it's the meaning behind each piece of art and the feeling of violation that makes us ABSOLUTELY SICK! One should be able to sleep at night knowing their valuables are safe at PUBLIC STORAGE -- THEY ARE NOT! BEWARE! read more

Besides having a hard time plugging in my code and getting the elevator to work correctly, the door to my unit never stayed open. I constantly needed somebody to come and hold the door up for me. It's a great facility but definitely not worth the money. $200 a month for a 5 x 10 is way too expensive. read more

I was able to rent this easily but once I signed the lease agreement I was never able to reach the property manager, find access location. My moving day came and went and in the meantime I needed to find another storage facility. The manager at this place is so nice and accomodating. The facility is clean and everything works. Even the public bathroom is clean. When you get there, ask for the key to the cart, because carts are limited. I would give this company 5 stars, but it's the company policy of not informing us there is a monthly charge for insurance and requireing me to buy thier lock that bugged me. The lock PS had me buy is expensive. I guess there is a reason for this, but I wish I knew this before hand. Otherwise, I would recommend this facility to anyone who has "stuff" they have to store. The facility is off a main road and close to a freeway. It works for us. read more

I was happy to find that their website had a cool reservation system where you could pick out the space you wanted by size, cost, and what level it was on. I was able to order my space online and then go meet up with the manager that day to get into my new space. The couple that helped me were very kind. My only gripe that is NOT against this actual location but the company as a whole is that the website failed to mention the requirement for a monthly insurance (cheapest is $8/month for $2,000 coverage) and the website didn't mention that you would need to purchase a special lock (not the cheapo high school locker kind) for $13.99. Regardless of that I am still pleased with my storage unit and the price (cheapest in town it seems). read more

This facility is clean, has a public restroom for its tenants, and has professional, helpful staff members. Katie, the site manager, is a pleasure to talk to and is always eager to assist her customers. The one possible area of improvement would be providing lighting in the storage units or, perhaps, offer coal mining hats along with the carts. read more

This was pretty much a trouble free place for me over the two years I needed storage space. Subscription payments were automatic, the site was always clean and accessible when it was supposed to be. They had a couple problems which seem to have been fixed. One was that someone stole the one and only hand truck, but there are now two. The other is that there were problems with the elevator, but it seems to be fine now also. If you have your own hand truck, I recommend bringing it just in case, because there are tenants who like to hog the regular ones. read more

For years I rented and Assunta was always a pleasure to deal with. When I closed my small business I no longer needed storage and closed my account. I spoke to Assunta and told her I rented another unit last Sunday, but realized I didn't need such a big unit. She was very helpful (as always) and told me there was a smaller unit available. I told her I will be there Tuesday as soon as I get off work, sorry to say I couldn't get there until 5:45 and the office closes at 6:00. Assunta went beyond the call of duty and got me into another unit fast. I felt terrible I held her up until 6:00, but as always she took great care of me with a smile. I want her manager to know, Assunta is a wonderful person, great employee, and they are fortunate to have her. Thank you Assunta- you are the best! read more

I have been trying to contact them on an ongoing basis since I need to close out my unit and since the change in operations, service has declined significantly. Nobody answers the phone, and calls are not returned even after leaving essages, yet they are very prompt in assessing late fees, even if the check has been dropped off. There are cheaper storage locations in Petaluma and the extra cost is not worth the aggravation. read more
