Just moved in to one of the inside units, and I have to say, I was surprised at easy it was and how good a facility this is. The desk folks, Kayla and (I think) Lena were super friendly and helpful. The carts for bringing stuff into your unit are a huge time saver, not to mention the reduced effort. And the place is clean as a whistle. Another surprise was how good the online stuff is. The payment system (we're not on Autopay) is great, it works with our password system, and the care and feeding for directions, codes etc. was outstanding. We appreciate all PS's hard work. This property manager is the worst. She is lazy and doesn't take care of things. I continuously have to escalate to corporate that she won't fix rotting wood that has allowed my items to be exposed to weather. Her solution is to go through insurance. I rented a small 5x5 unit at Black Lake. My belongings were there for over a year. The property is well kept for as big as this Public Storage is. All my calls were returned in a timely fashion. My property seemed to stay dry and pest free. I am glad I got my stuff and will miss them at Black Lake Public Storage. read more

We rented a storage unit for 6 months with this facility. When we unpacked the unit, every item that was wood or fabric material was covered in mold. Every piece of furniture made of wood was warped. So much so that the doors will not open. More than $10,000 worth of furniture ruined. The unit was all plywood in terrible shape. Then, when we left for a few hours with a padlock on our unit - the front desk lady called while we were gone and threatened to charge us another month of rent even though there are still two more weeks we've paid through. Bait and switch; this facility starts with low rates and then quickly doubles them within a few months all while offering lower rates on same size units. I'm not sure how they continue to operate without class action lawsuits being brought against the parent company. These business practices simply are not legal. Not to mention, this corporation doesn't allow proration on mid-month terminations, however their employees tell you they do when you sign up for a storage unit. I moved out on 7/1. When signing up and going over the contract with your employee I specifically asked what happens if I move out mid month? I asked do you prorate? Her response yes no problem! Your employee misrepresented your company. I am now being told you don't do that. If I had know this to be the case of course I would have moved out 1 day earlier! I assumed your employee was telling the truth instead of just saying what ever they can to make the sale. This same employee also told me I was allowed to prop open the door so it would be easy to move in and out because it was a straight shot rather then having to maneuver around two corners. Later I was talked to (rather harshly) by a different employee that it was an emergency exit and you are not allowed to use that door like that. Clearly you have an employee that does not know your policies and basic rules of your company. I am very dissatisfied with the lack of help regarding this. read more

Horrible pricing jumps every year almost 100$ now paying more than my rent so changing to a better one

Horrible customer service. The unit was way overpriced and it was not even worth it. The whole place was moldy and smelt so bad. The person that spoke with us said that we could prop open the side doors to move our stuff but we were yelled at later for doing so. We also had issues with them billing us for an extra month when they told us that if we moved out mid month (we were having our flooring done and it would only be a few weeks), that they would prorate the charges for that month. This was not true and we were still charged the full amount for an extra month. Would not recommend at all. read more

I had an issue when arriving at storage units with the gate code given to me for the move in day. It didn't work but luckily the Property Manager Kim was on site still and was extremely helpful and understanding of the situation. She informed me that the facility had another entrance which no one had told me beforehand and I was almost locked out because of it. I first had call3d the customer service phone line and the representative was less then helpful and was frustrating me by not giving me any straiggt answers or solutions. So Kim the property manager helped me find my unit and helped us with everything we needed help with. She was patient, kind, thoughtful, helpful, and polite with an all around good attitude and personality. Less than Zero Stars Tweedledumb & Tweedledumber's uselessness is only compounded by their arrogance & attitudes. It's as if they do not realize that their wages come from our pockets. I recently received 2 URGENT messages within an hr. Thinking my unit had flooded or caught on fire, I immediately returned their calls, only to find out that a late bill constitutes an emergency. Again, I received attitude. Today, my son tried to pay for our unit & again received an unbelievable amount of attitude, especially considering that the reason I was not there in person was bc I was hospitalized. They care not. I had my trailer here for a month. Price was right and Justin Dahl was very nice and accomidating. I had trouble parking my trailer into one spot because people park their wrecks in there and they are not square in the stall. SO Justin had been watching me on camera from the office. I am very disappointed in this company and particular location. The rates are ridiculous. I have an unheated 10x10 unit that has risen in price to $192.00 per month. I went to my unit on Feb. 26 to find the office closed, the security gate wide open and completely unprotected. Only store things here if you have very good insurance and you don't care if you lose it. I had my motorcycle trailer here for less than 3 months and it was broken into. They didn't even call the police. I found out later none of the exterior lights work and the only security camera I could see was pointing at the ground. I called the police and they came out and gave me a form to fill out. They told me most likely my things was stolen from someone who has a storage unit there so they will have the code to get in the gate and just move the things to their unit. When I talked with the person at the front desk, they didn't even seem to care. When I ask why they didn't call the police I was told, "We didn't lose anything.". If I could give a lower score I would. I put my household goods into storage with this storage facility on 8/15/20. On March 15, 2021, seven months later I opened up the door--and almost everything was coverage in mold. I started crying. None of my furniture was cheap--a lot a good quality i.e. Ethan Allen, Antiques, Pottery Barn, Henredon, custom made upholstered pieces, a couple of custom made items. All covered in mold. I made a bee-line to the front desk. The "Property Manager" asked "did you have insurance coverage"?. Well, yah, no duh! I did not have an option. I had to pay for coverage, it was added to my monthly cost at rental time. She handed me a pamphlet to call and place a claim. Then she said "did you buy any of these to put in your unit"? "These" were dehumidifying products. I said "No". I was never asked if I wanted to buy, nor did notice they were even sitting there the day we first arrived. The Property Manager said there is a maximum $5,000 coverage for any damage. Well, that is NOT true. First, the contract (which I wish I would have caught), specifically excludes mold, fungus , etc.. So, I had to pay for insurance that only covers water damage--not mold and fungus. I even took this to my attorney. The contract is written to dismiss any of these issues. BUT....I had to pay for the coverage and seven months of storage only to take all of my stuff out of the unit. Probably $35,000 worth of furniture covered in mold, or er, fungus. Precious items such as photos, pictures, framed items, silver, things inherited from parents, grandparents had been stored in those Costco yellow lidded black storage containers. SO GLAD I did that--those items have items have been preserved. I WILL NEVER PUT ANYTHING IN A PUBLIC STORAGE UNIT AGAIN. BAD BUSINESS. THEY COULD NOT CARE LESS! I was hung up on by one of their customer service people--and another one (the senior insurance dude--would no return my call. read more

I've always had good experiences with Public Storage in the past, and this was a convenient location, so I rented a unit here online. Manager was friendly and check-in process was easy. But when we went to look at our indoor unit that we rented, I was about knocked over by the moldy/musty smell in the building. The manager's response was that people store all sorts of things that could smell and that they sell DampRid in the office to keep your items from getting smelly, which is pretty ridiculous (first, because the smell is obviously from water damage of some sort, not a smell that would come from someone's stored items.) They need to fix whatever the source of the smell is and/or ventilate the building better, not ask customers to pay extra to avoid their items smelling bad. I honestly would have taken my business elsewhere if there was anything else available in the area. Luckily, I only need the unit for a month or two, and I'm really hoping that my stuff doesn't come out smelling like that building. read more

I would not recommend this place to anyone. I looked at 4 units before settling on one and only because I was desperate to have storage that same day (and didn't have time to find another storage place closer). The units were filthy, there were holes in the wood floors (all of the units I looked at had wood flooring), you could see daylight through the roof in some of the units, and the overall cleanliness of the units was terrible. There is no temperature control (the hallways and units are FREEZING cold) and there is a damp feel to the units. On the unit I finally settled on, there was a fairly large grease spot in one corner and when we asked if it could be cleaned, the staff person said she could get us cardboard to put over it. I paid for one month and moved everything out three weeks later. This place is extremely over priced for what it offers. My advice to anyone is to be sure to visit this place before you settle on renting space there. read more

When I showed up, she was busy, but she was very nice and efficient at helping everyone at once. JUANITA worked very hard to find a unit to suit our needs and get us the best price. After been given the round around by UHAUL to find storage, it was a real breath of fresh air to see a company like Public Storage meet our needs with such ease. Public storage self storage in Olympia Washington advertises $1 pays your first month's rent, but they don't advertise the fact that if you are 6 days late on a payment, they charge you $20. A day after the month has passed, $50, and another on the 6th $20 before they could auction it off the next week an eager crowd. Thats your childhood photos, your mountain bike, your grandma's recipes, books, camping gear, supplies for a lifelong project. Effectively, if you are 37 days late on a $70 storage unit they charge $90, more than the rent for that month. I came in on the 1st of February with funds for January and February. They had already tacked on a $50 "lean fee" (in addition to a late fee in January), and the manager Diane would not have any compassion for the fact that I showed up 20 minutes after they opened to take care of it, I in truth did not know about the lean fee either. Without waxing too poetic, it is easy for people behind a counter to heartlessly charge fees that may be very fair to them, but the cheap first month's rent brings in customers who may not pay on time, making them subject to these fees that however unreasonable, may leave them open to losing all their possessions. For some people, it is stories like this that brought them from troubled in transition to destitute on the street. All for $90 in fees sometimes these things come down to. So, when it comes down to it, Public Storage is just yet another example of a chain business excerting their powers to contort funds and possessions from people who sometimes are unprepared for their predatory nature. I urge all those who are considering a storage unit to go for someone more local, with a fair game, and a mind for service to their community, even if places like Public Storage advertise state of the art facilities, I am sure that other local businesses have similar setups. So if it is convenient and viable for you to explore a more local and friendly option, I encourage you to. read more
