In Dealing w/medical emergency I can say that Amber has been amazing in answering questions and helping to put my nerves at ease. I'm dealing w/enough as is and having a manager who still embodies the humanistic spirit is not only rare in today's time but also refreshing as well. Public Storage are thieves! Made a reservation to move into a unit. Realized during the move that I didn't need a storage space. Only way to cancel is to call the location, which I did prior to my move in date. Left a message thinking it was all good. Few days later noticed a $157 charge on my credit card. So I called back. I was told they got my original message and that the manager denied my cancellation and my money was non refundable. So I called the corporate offices in Glendale CA and was told they don't do anything and referred me back to the Emeryville facility. Absolutely bullshit! DON'T RENT FROM THEM. read more

The customer service person was so nice. She took me to multiple locations for my storage area. She showed me how to login and put app on my phone and she showed me where the location was for several storage units. She was very nice easy to talk to and very patient she deserves a five star. She made sure that I was completely set to go and make sure that my code was correct and allowed me to open the gate before I left today. When I came back everything was in order I got my love to put it all in which there was one on the floor in the storage unit. This is a very nice business. You will simply enjoy customer service. read more

I would give this location a ZERO, but Yelp won't allow that. So I will say to anyone looking for a storage facility, literally use ANYONE OTHER THAN PUBLIC STORAGE. I have experienced not one but TWO floods. Yes, floods. I feel "blessed" that I was not like a fellow renter on the same row who experienced a third flood two years earlier. These had nothing to do with the rain or flooding associated with that in December and January. They do not have a property manager. Nobody knows what is going on. This includes upper management who is also completely inept and incompetent. They make promises and them break them. They promise to help, but don't. They are useless. read more

Public Storage - 3" to 6" of standing water inside our unit. - Self Storage Near Me - Emeryville, California

On move in day our movers were running late. I called the office and spoke to the manager. I explained the movers got stuck in traffic and requested after hours access. I was told a flat No, not going to happen. I was told we could enter the gate into the property by 6PM and we could exit no later than 6:30 PM. The movers and I got to the unit at about 520PM. We hustled and filed the unit. Upon exiting the property at 6:03PM the gate would not allow us to exit. I had to call the 800 number, go through prompts, get the run around and kind you I'm paying these guys hourly. After about 20 mins, sitting in 45 degree weather, pouring rain, the gate was magically opened. No apology, no discount, nothing. read more

good customer service and Eden help me out she's a really a good person with a pretty smile

I like how the elevator doors stay open and a sign that tells you what floor to go to if your storage is on a certain floor. I also like how you can just get a dolly. I had another storage in a different city and they kept the dolly's lock up and you will have to go in the office give them your DL. And it was very hard to get stuff out the elevator be the elevator will always close. This new storage place that I'am makes unloading your car very easy I don't have to struggle with anything. read more

If based on my experiences with the property manager (Amelia, who I think hates her job), I would have given one (1) star. The other two who work at this site (Nakita and I didn't catch the other black woman's name) who helped me were very friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable. They gave information without attitude or in a condescending manner, and offered information without being asked. They would have received five (5) stars. As for the manager, I checked in after sunset and my unit's ONE light had a blown bulb. Since I have a very long unit, the light shines in the front half of the space, so the rest was rather dark even after the manager changed the bulb. While chatting with her, I mentioned that the one light seemed insufficient for this size unit. Her response was, "That's how these units are." Dead end answer - and obviously did NOT understand what I said is also known as "feedback." I said I could hook up another light, and she slammed that idea shut with, "That's not allowed!" So, if one wanted a bulldog to work the front desk and prevent customers from wanting to use the facilities, she's a good candidate. Her lack of customer service skills and public relations really deem her better in a position that doesn't interact with people. I also had a portable storage unit (Pack Rat) to unload into the stationery storage, and left to get the helpers for unloading it. When I returned, the same manager jumped all over me about leaving the container (it was out of the way and did not block anyone's unit) on site. I'm not sure what I was supposed to do as I couldn't take it with me to pick up my help. Next time I'll bring them but that means extra money spent while waiting for the delivery! Anyway, I'm now sitting by the front gate waiting for the pick up guy to return - it's now been over a two hour wait. I could have been doing something else since I live close by. Not sure I understand the reasoning for this "babysitting" a portable container rule. I already know it can't stay overnight. And she threatened to tow it away if I leave it (would like to see how that is done without the crane and cradle!). All this negativity for a stressful enough time when moving, certainly NOT what anyone needs! read more

I've been using Public Storage for about a year now and just transferred from a small space to a larger storage unit. The process was easy and Noelle was helpful in making the transition easy and fast. They ask you to make an appointment before coming in just FYI but I think you can also just walk in. Definitely recommend. read more

They make it nearly impossible to move out. My boyfriend moved everything out yesterday and took the lock, when he stopped by the office there was a sign up saying that the person would be back in an hour (this was 3 pm). I try to call multiple times today to see when someone will be in to provide me with a receipt, it just goes to the main Public Storage line. They told me that they sent an email to the Emeryville location that I've moved out and I should receive a call back from them to confirm and...nothing. It's almost like they're intentionally dodging people towards the end of the month so we give up and pay another month's rent. Now I have to leave work early today to try and catch these people before 6 pm and try to get them to confirm that I've moved out of my unit. Good times. read more

Don't rent at this location (Emeryville). Use another public storage. The manager, Amelia lacks professionalism, yells at customers, becomes hostile in communication, and behaves with lack of respect to customer. Corporate should consider firing Amelia as her attitude towards paying customers borders on harassment and drives away business. If you dont mind being treated like a dog and pay top $$ then this place is up your alley. Based on other reviews this particular location has had many thefts. Your stuff is not safe even with a lock. read more

ZERO stars (damn you Yelp with your crap star rating system). Storage space renters beware, especially if you don't go check on your storage unit regularly. Even if you did, you still may be the target of thieves. This place has lax security. Period. As far as I can tell, the only security measures consist of the front code access gate and your own padlock. I've never seen anyone routinely patrolling the storage units. I had all my valuables ripped off from my storage unit last year, including some items of sentimental value that were irreplaceable. According to the management folks, there were multiple break-ins at this location. It's almost a perfect crime. Here's my theory on what happened: Thieves rent a storage unit at the facility as a cover to gain access to the facility, come on-site, break-in and go through other people's storage units at their own leisurely pace. It's either that or it was an inside job... Lessons learned from this experience: - Have insurance - Keep a good record of all your belongings - Don't store anything of value at Emeryville Public Storage Am I bitter? What do you think? read more

I rented a storage unit here on October 8th. On October 30th I went back to get my items. 3/4 of everything is gone, valued at $30,000. The employees first realizes there was a security issue on Oct 25th, but did not notify me, nor did they check which gate codes had been used to access the facility OR review their video surveillance. Note that they don't even have inside video surveillance -- only 1 camera near the gate. Management seems flippant in regards to my loss. Like another reviewer, I have a lot of reason to believe it's an inside job. You would be safer leaving your stuff out near the railroad tracks with a sign on them that says, "FREE" than you would be leaving them at Public Storage in Emeryville. read more

George is a self-important, ignorant, uncooperative and condescending buffoon. First he needed to know exactly at what time I would be arriving so someone could be there and unless "you want to spend your whole time waiting outside." Well, I am in the process of moving a house, not taking a plane! So no, I don't have an exact time of arrival! ... Bad start... I reserved the place on line and simply wanted to know what ALL the monthly charges would be including insurance. He flat out refused to answer saying that I had to show up and that would find out by the last two pages of the contract. I had not even seen the place and cancelled. I don't need that kind of aggravation in the middle of a move. read more

Very easy to move in, clean and great staff! In particular Sally is always so friendly and helpful!

Good, secure, clean space -- convenient if you live in or near Emeryville. HOWEVER, this franchise ropes you in at a low price and then raises its rates FAR FAR FAR more than inflation every year (from $70+ a couple years ago to $160 now (fine if you want to feel like a frog being slowly boiled). Tried talking with their corporate people (we're both veterans and seniors on a fixed income) -- but of course they couldn't care less. Ironically, we've found other nearby storage that is FAR CHEAPER, and which even moves you for free. So we're GONE and we merely suggest others don't fall for what certainly looks like the typical, "1% super rich" and quite cynical bait-and-switch. Karma takes care of all. read more

I will back up orz 100%. I had a similar experience. Even though I was checking in regularly, the thieves managed to get me (and at least a dozen other renters) over Christmas. I. Lost. Everything. The sophistication of the job (mirroring all the security "precautions" that the facility took) made me believe it was an inside job. In fact, the police contacted me about finding trash in an unused unit, but when I checked in, the office staff were very put out that I wanted to see if anything of mine was left behind. To add insult to injury, my account was sent to collections because even after closing my account the day I discovered the robbery, I was still being billed for that empty unit. Renters are required to have insurance, and I did make a claim, but read the fine print. You get only 50% back if the loss is due to robbery. I could have used my renters insurance, but money wasn't the issue anymore. I was violated, and these jerks couldn't care less. STAY AWAY FROM PUBLIC STORAGE! read more

This place jacks up your bill by double after the first month, and has been leaving the front security gate wide open all night long during construction. Paying $99, $11 of which is insurance that isn't an option - it's another hidden fee, along with some fee for accepting your money for an "administrative cost" as if they were the one's having to drive to your house to set everything up. read more

I wish I could give this place negative stars! This place is HORRIBLE. The so-called managers are incompetent idiots and the regional manager is no better. My sister had her stuff stored here for over a year. It was on the top floor, where there is only a mesh for the ceiling not a hard ceiling. She had two locks on the door, so no one could have entered through the front door. Well, someone entered MULTIPLE times through the ceiling, apparently from another unit on the same floor. Multiple police reports and claims later, no one fixed the ceiling and the managers could care less! Thieves took more than $5000 of stuff. When we moved her stuff to a lower level unit that had a real ceiling, they charged us more money on the spot for the same size unit! They would not have the decency or business sense to courtesy the extra charge seeing how she was robbed multiple times at their facility, which has no cameras or any significant security. I guess, it's cheaper if you don't care about your stuff being stolen but you have to pay more if you don't want your stuff stolen! To top things off, Tim (the manager) called the cops on us because I had 2 hours to move everything from one unit to another before I had to catch a flight, and I took one of their dollies to move the stuff! The cops came and started laughing at him for being so idiotic and wasting tax dollars to call 2 police officers to get a dolly back from me, which I would have been happy to give him if he would have asked me like a civilized human being, instead of the jerk that he is. AVOID this place at all cost. If you have to use them, NEVER get a top floor unit, or you can kiss your stuff goodbye. When I wrote a detailed complaint letter to their district manager, he was even worse in terms of customer service. This is a model for how NOT to run a business, unless you never want to have a repeat customer. read more

Tim, the new manager, is the best! When I was moving my entire apartment into a larger unit, there were times where I was pushing the time limit. When you're moving, and your back hurts, and you're taking vacation days to do your move, and suddenly they tell you they close in 5 minutes, it can be frustrating. In spite of my obvious displeasure, Tim kept his cool and remained friendly, helpful, and professional. Plus he's really efficient and on top of things. If this review was just about Tim, it would be 5 stars. However, in the last 8 years, their rates have EXPLODED and their hours have become very short and inconvenient. Who has time to get to their overpriced storage unit by 6 pm on a work day? (And not be able to use a cart, because they need to be locked up by 5 pm.) read more

I rented a storage unit here for about 9 months and frankly the key to this place is the staff. On a few occasions when our unit wasn't properly locked up they took it upon themselves to lock up for us as a precaution and I really appreciated that. Dale and the office staff are cordial, courteous and caring. See that alliteration there? It's an accessible place; easy to get in and out of and really what more can you ask for. I'd recommend this spot if you need a place to store your stuff short or long term. read more

Access hours were cut to close at 6pm. This was apparently temporary but still could not access my unit when I needed to and after I had specifically agreed chosen this location and hours based on accessibility. That being said, when I could access the front office was helpful and informative. Straightforward sign up and move out process. read more

The other reviews on here are disturbing, and unfortunately I did not read them before deciding to put my stuff in one of their units. Tim is great and very helpful. George, not so much! After one unpleasant encounter with George, I will call first and only visit when Tim is on duty. I'm a senior citizen and need to use one of the carts since there is no way I can carry boxes any distance. Don't assume that someone will be there during their "office hours" to help you get a cart, so I really recommend calling before you go to confirm someone will be in the office. And preferably Tim! read more

I have had many storage experiences and this experience was definitely the most pleasant experience I have ever had. The two ladies in the front office (Amelia and India) were smiles from ear to ear from the moment I walked in, till the end when we were signing and getting all of the paper work done. They worked to get me a great deal on my unit, and in the end was such a pleasant experience. Also I have numerous experiences with storage facilities in many different states, as we have moved around a lot, and this facility is very nice, compared to many I have had in the past. Overall a great experience! read more

Storage facilities are a secure building or facility for people to store their personal belongings. In my opinion, any rating, one star to five star is going to be a direct reflection on the actual customer service and support that you receive. That's why I'm giving the Emeryville Public Storage a five-star rating. The customer service and support that I have received during the past year and more specifically this past month from Mojo, the manager deserves to be recognized. I do use two words, service and support because that's exactly what Mojo has provided to me, excellent customer service and support in a professional way. read more

Just rented a unit here and started moving in. I reserved online to get the special rate and received an immediate response to set up an appointment to come in to sign the lease etc. Now I don't know if George has an evil twin or something because the only word I would use to describe my experience is delightful! I honestly can't believe the other reviews are about the same person. He was very hospitable and friendly, took us on a tour of the facility, and gabbed with my fiancé and me about rescue dogs. He's very direct and straight forward so I'd imagine if your the type of person who can't handle that you might think he's being rude. Who knows. As for the theft issues people discussed, if you lock the unit properly there isn't a way to cut it without dismantling the whole door. Some people use their own locks that hang lower leaving them exposed to be cut, but if you use the circular type lock it's totally protected. In conclusion, I think this place has a bad wrap and I'm happy I didn't let the negative reviews scare me off. read more
