My storage unit was robbed and they acted like it was no big deal when I reported it to the front which is suspicious because I think this happens often 2. People live there, they claim no one does but I have seen people with their unit set up like it's the home and have been at early hours and watched them walk out - I don't necessarily blame them as it's affordable shelter, but just noting this as people are in there after hours and have easy access to other units read more

Woof. I hate leaving reviews like this but just needed to share my experience. This location just isn't it. The area is located in an incredible crowded intersection off Mockingbird where the entrance to pull into the gate is congested on the daily. Customer service: I'm just disappointed. I had minimal contact with the front desk. I called on multiple occasions to ask questions about my unit with no answer. The worst parts were when I'd arrive when the sign says "open" and no one would be there to answer my questions. When I did get a response I'd have to repeat my information 3-4 times to whoever I'd be on the phone with. Safety. Wow did I feel so afraid to come here on my own, let alone after the sun set. The door to enter the storage units was almost always jammed, and I constantly saw people who looked like they lived there walking around. I'm used to seeing multiple security cameras at Public Storages and can't remember seeing a single one at this location. This location does not have key pads to enter your code for entrance into the units. At least in my section. The final straw for me was when I arrived to unlock my unit and my lock had been tampered with. Red flags left and right. The freight elevator was broken 90% of the times I visited. Terrible. The worst part about all of this was the increase in price to over $250 a month. I had to end my lease as soon as I saw this. Absolutely not worth it, even if the location is convenient. Unbelievable how quickly and frequently the rent increases. First after just 4 months the rent increased by 40%. Then 9 months later it increased by another 15%. Then another 25% nine months after that. The rent has nearly doubled in 2 years. I've used Public Storage before and never had this incredible escalation of prices. Look and read the reviews people. Romeo and 5342 E Mockingbird is a total clown show. I scheduled my move in date for yesterday, 8/24/24, only to arrive with all my things and discover the elevator was "down". In talking to manager Romeo, it had been down for several days. Now I know what you're thinking: Why didn't Romeo tell me this 2 days ago, when I came in to look at my newly rented storage unit? I do not know how to answer that. So anyway, when I'm there with my truck and all my stuff yesterday, it was 6 am, before the office was open. No one was there to help fix the situation. So I left a message for the office, telling them I couldn't get in due to their faulty elevator, telling them I'd be back tomorrow (which is today), and left them my name and number. Nobody calls me back, but I figure they'll surely have their elevator problems fixed by today. So I show back up today with my truck and my stuff, and you guessed it: the elevator still didn't work. This is when Romeo tells me I could have used the stairs to move my stuff in. Are you getting the picture. Do yourself a favor. Pay a few bucks more and go somewhere else. read more

I have had a storage unit with Public Storage for over 35 years (in Chicago, Phoenix and now Dallas). I rented my 10 x 20 unit in Dallas in 2019 for $181 and the price has now been raised to $465 (over 200% increase in just 4 years!). They currently have two 10 x 20 units in the same facility (5342 Mockingbird) they are offering for $248, yet they have increased my rent to $465 after I have been a loyal customer for 35 years. I am 65 years old and retired and I cannot afford this increase and am very disappointed in this price gouging. Tamika and all the associates at this facility have been extremely professional and helpful, but the Public Storage Corp office will not allow them to help me with this price increase (they tried). read more

When I went back the door appeared to be replaced with a very cheap, lightweight door. I believe they have some way to do this. I could have kicked my way into the door. It was that lightweight. The wood also appeared to be hollow on the inside. Weird. Public Storage is best avoided. Sure they have their orange signs all over the metroplex and they are great at advertising their $1 dollar fees to sign up. But please note that once you move all of your items in they will start to hit you with multiple rent increases and their late fees are half of their monthly rent. That's a LOT. If I could give zero stars I would. I have had a unit there for not even 3 months and when I returned to get something from the unit, there was mouse poop EVERYWHERE. And several of my boxes had been gotten into. When I called, I was given no reassurance that something was being done to resolve this issue. I would give this place zero stars if I could. They have had multiple issues with broken exterior doors into the buildings. Finally, our unit was broken into and things stolen - turns out one of the exterior doors was actually UNLOCKED. There was also another incident where the sprinkler systems malfunctioned and the units all flooded, so we had some water damage. When we had the unit broken into, they told us they had called the police and filed a report. Turns out that wasn't true, and we had to call ourselves. Haley was terrible and completely lied. A friend of mine has been storing his worthless crap (I'm not being judgmental... he completely agrees) for nearly 20 years here and the rent has gone up considerably since he first signed up. He was talked into climate controlled storage which is idiotic. He's not storing fur coats. He's storing particle board furniture, boxes of old magazines and some floor lamps. He's also on the fifth floor, but paying the same price as if it was the ground floor. I've been there a few times with him to help him move some crap with my truck, then haul it off to the Salvation Army for a tax write-off receipt. The hallways between the storage units are way too narrow to do maneuvering of large tables, couches, etc. There are two elevators... one medium sized one that will accommodate 3 people and an end table and a large freight elevator that could accommodate a compact car and 6 people... crucially needed to store and retrieve large items. The last time we were there, we struggled for an hour to get this old sleeper sofa out of the unit with that narrow hallway. We finally get that behemoth on its end and on a flat hand truck and gingerly wheel it to the freight elevator. I press the open button and nothing happens. It worked the last time we were there. Impress it again. Nothing. My friend takes the other elevator (too small to accommodate the sofa) down to the office to find out what's going on with the freight elevator and I stand there, waiting. I finally hear the smaller elevator arrive and think my friend has returned. No. It's two homeless guys with shopping carts. These men and their belongings are absolutely FILTHY and stink not only of body odor, but of booze... like they poured booze all over themselves and all over their belongings. They had a ghetto blaster pumping out music rife with pornographic language on their cart. This alone would make me never want to rent a storage place here. I never thought about other customers' hygiene before... but in the locked storage compartment, you see the 'roof' of your unit is merely overlapping pieces of chain link fencing. So... if your neighbor has pure filth to store, along with accompanying roaches, lice, rodents, etc., they will quickly migrate to your storage unit, because there's nothing stopping them. I recently rented a unit at Storage Choice for a couple of months and while it wasn't climate controlled, it was cool in there even when it was over 100 degrees outside. The unit was also completely sealed and not vulnerable to contamination by this sort of clientele. My friend finally arrived and said that the office knew about the elevator ... a previous customer did something with the pull straps that got it jammed. There was no note posted anywhere telling us this elevator was out. If there had been, we wouldn't have struggled for an hour to move a sofa that won't fit in the other elevator. The clerk said that she called corporate about getting an elevator repair guy out there, but they were "in no rush" because they still had a working elevator. I explained that the other working elevator was of no use to us due to the size of what we were moving, but the big wigs at Public Storage didn't care. We struggled for another hour to get the sofa back in that tiny, overpriced unit and left in disgust. Whenever I get a storage unit in the future, I will never go here, or any other Public Storage facility... and I will never get one that is in walking distance of a public bus line. read more

SCAM!!! Find A Different Storage Company I RESERVED a 10x15 climate controlled first floor unit 2 weeks ago and came in today to do the paperwork and get the keys. I was informed that they did not have the unit I reserved on the first floor and the only thing available was on the third floor. I was told by the manager that it was only a wish list and not a reservation. I showed her my email stating reservation and that it was good until 4/28. On top of that she told me I could get the 3rd floor unit for the same price because now the prices had gone up so that it was a deal. However, the first floor climate controlled are the most expensive so now I was paying my reserved first floor price for a 3rd floor unit. I asked to speak with the district manager and they gave me a phone number but he did not answer. I had to finalize the deal because our movers are coming tomorrow morning but now I will have to pay more in moving costs since it will take them more time to use the elevator. Also, the key I had to buy last time I stored at the same place only works on the 1st floor so they make you buy a $20 different lock for the upper floors. The manager had a terrible attitude about the whole situation and was not helpful in the least. read more

If you had asked me a week ago, I would've told you how great Public Storage on Mockingbird was - the people are friendly, the place is clean and that I felt that my belongings were safe. But a week ago, I didn't know that my unit (and others) had been burgled. After some sleuthing, I found out that ALL of the security measures you pay for are totally worthless. The criminals drove in thru the front gate using an access code which also allowed them into the building. They went down the hallway attempting to bust open units with a pry bar to bypass the stupid mandatory lock (that PS makes you purchase). Large items stolen from multiple units were easily loaded into a moving truck. They came after 6p when the employees leave and left before 9p when the gates closed using an access code. This is the nice PS in the good part of town near a park and Mockingbird Station - a place where even criminals can feel safe. I was notified almost 24hrs afterwards. Told PS, per company policy, does not call the Police despite knowing there was a felony committed and having evidence. This clearly organized burglary was not their problem. Since Police weren't notified, it is my responsibility to file a police report which I can't do online without evidence which PS refused me. So I get to go sit at DPD Downtown, in a mask in the heat waiting in line to hopefully file a theft report over a week later, between the hours of 8a-1p; forcing me to lose valuable work hours. I have 2 units - one they couldn't get the pry bar in. But the other was completely ransacked. Everything (mine and other tenets) was pulled into the hallway and dug thru. The criminals took my deceased father's 7ft Craftsman Master Pro tool chest with all of my work equipment in it. They attempted to steal other large equipment; I worry that they will come back to take it. Insurance has already told me tough luck since I can't provide them a detailed list with photos of every single tool in the tool chest - who has a complete inventory of their entire storage unit? A couple grand worth of important tools, artwork, home stuff - all gone. Maybe if the Police had been notified and given the security footage, there would be someone out there looking for my father's tool chest; or all the furniture stolen from the unit down the hall; peoples' priceless family items, memories and other possessions important enough that they pay to keep safe in storage. I was provided ZERO help; ZERO recompense; ZERO customer service per company policy. PS will tell you that they are not liable for any stolen goods. But they are still negligible in not providing the services advertised and paid for which is the monitoring and security of their storage facility. Furthermore, not notifying the authorities of a crime or volunteering evidence to the victims is SHAME WORTHY. The last week has been a total nightmare. I've lost work; I get to pay another month of rent to pack up what's left despite worrying about my safety at PS and spend my free time cruising pawn shops hoping to find my stolen property. read more

If I could give this Public Storage 0 stars, I would. The office staff is beyond unfriendly and have never been helpful with any situation I have run into. They also charged me the incorrect rent for 3 months and after calling the office, Public Storage customer service the district manager, i still have not been refunded. My storage unit was also in the corner of the building and there was no light in my unit. The only lights were in the hallways and because of the location of my unit, no hallway light reached my unit. I had to bring a flashlight every time I went to my storage unit (day or night) to be able to see inside and the office staff response was "there is nothing we can do about it." I have multiple storage units across the country for work and have had very pleasant experiences at other Public Storage locations but felt the need to warn anyone thinking about renting from this location. Save yourself the headache and go 10 feet down the road for better storage unit facilities around the same price. read more

Last Saturday my husband and I went to take a few more boxes to our storage, upon opening the locker, we stood there stunned! Because we had 8-10 large Rubbermaid Grey containers all missing. The lock had not been picked, there appears to be no blunt forced entry. We could not believe what we were seeing. Our locker was so packed that we only would have been able to get a few boxes in and placed on top. You will see what our locker looked like when we opened it. We have been at this Public Storage for 8 months. The last time we had been in there was August and everything was there. We reported it and to the office, they were NOT helpful, they said they would investigate, and get back to us, because a current tenant there has moved his locker more than three times, and he had been on our floor with his unit nearby ours and they said he seem suspicious anyways, changing floors and locker units all the time. The lady (Emily) helping my husband said she would call my husband in a few days with an update, so far we have heard nothing from her or anyone else from this location office. Emily who is also the Manager, was going to go back and look at video footage, because there are camera's on the fifth floor by the elevators, and she would go back and check. You would need the elevators in order to have moved our containers. We strongly feel this was an inside job, as you will see by my photos, if anything, someone could have bent the door frame, to get in, and put it back, without anyone seeing them. We were on the fifth floor. We had our stuff at a different Public Storage for over five years in Lakewood, and never, not once had this problem where someone broke into our storage unit. I'm very disappointed in this facility and their staff in how they handle this for us. Management should re-think how things are being run there. Note--you cannot live in the storage space you rent. And if you ask to many questions about whether people have tried to and how many they've caught, they will look at you suspiciously. Hey! I was just curious. Anyway, the website is a little confusing. I know that's more of a corporate thing. But I reserved a locker. Then I went on to fill in the rental agreement online. And wow...it showed me a great deal. But once I arrived at the location, I did not get that great deal. And the only thing there was the reservation. All the online information was gone. We had to start from scratch. And Saturday's are BUSY. The guy behind the counter was a total pro. He juggled me, some other antsy customers who really thought they should get to jump into the middle of my transaction. He told them they would have to wait their turn. He was also working with some sort of manager trainee looking person who was partially lost. The space we looked at had a crooked spot where the lock should go. My Public Storage lock from the last time I rented didn't fix, so he GAVE me a new lock that did fit. AWESOME! A 4X5 locker with $8 insurance will run me $32 a month. That's a bit higher than I wanted but I'll live. read more

I needed a storage for a week. I rented a unit here because they had a $20 first month for a large storage unit promotion. I chose this promo vs. "First month free" promo because I wasn't sure if the other promo was valid for a rent less than one month. So, of course, when I signed the lease on Aug 27th, I made sure 1000 times that I only owed them $47 or so which included the first month's rent and other fees. ($20+ fees are total BS by the way.) The clerk clarified 1000 times that I did not owe her another dime if I emptied the storage by the end of Sep 27th. I got a voice mail in the first week of September and I called back. When I told the lady on the phone who I was, the first word out of her was this: "I was wondering when you are going to pay me my money." This was the first thing out of her mouth. I have never dealt with such a rude service clerk although considering her tone of voice, she could have been the owner. But either way, what kind of person talks to a customer in this fucking ludicrous manner? 'When am I going to give you your money?' What is she, a loan shark? And I don't even owe her another cent! Anyway, I had her pull up the contract and I walked her through her own freaking contact lines where it said I did not owe her a dime as long as I emptied it out by the 27th. Well, this happened on the 5th or 6th. When she realized that she made a mistake, guess what she said. Not that she was sorry for bothering me or for being so rude, but that I needed to empty the unit by 6 pm on the 27th. And that if I am even one minute late in emptying it out, I will be charged the full month's rent and the late fees. What the fuck is wrong with this lady? Really, people need to be aware that they could be taken advantage of if they are not careful dealing with these folks at Public Storage. read more

If you are a relational person, who enjoys good customer service, then I would recommend this location at Public Storage. Emily (one of the managers) and the rest of her staff bend over backwards to accommodate me. For example, in my profession, I receive SEVERAL product shipments per quarter. I leave a key with the girls, and when the delivery man comes, they ensure that all the product gets delivered into the unit for me, without me having to be there or haul the boxes up myself. In addition, anytime there is confusion with my orders, they take it upon themselves to call me. As far as the 'homeless' man. His name is Dusty, and he is harmless and actually amazing! I haven't seen him in months, he must have moved :*( I would agree that the keypad for entering the gate is in an awkward spot and it jiggles around making it hard to punch in the gate code (girls, can we fix this?) I have had the pleasure of visiting this location a few times in the last few years, either to rent storage space, and/or to buy boxes and packing materials. Saying " the pleasure" of a storage rental experience was something that never crossed my mind before renting from PS on Mockingbird. That's because this location sets the bar on customer service, for any business type. It's surprisingly welcoming to walk in and see similar faces still working there since prior visits (I have rented from here 4 times in the last 3 years). Especially when the staff is unbelievably informative, helpful, straight forward in their pricing options, extremely professional, personable, and seem to GENUINELY like working with people. If I had to work with a continuously rotation of people, I would be so burned out on being nice. It would be so hard for me to be nice to grumpy people, who are coming in tired and sweaty (or freezing) from a move. Or, people like me, grumpy and annoyed that they have to move - again. Not these ladies. They have genuine patience and personality. The kind of kindness that makes your day better. I initially picked this location because of proximity and that I needed storage ASAP. Granted, because of their location, (location, location) compared to other PS locations, this PS is a tad pricey. But, even though I'm sure the staff here hears the higher pricing comment a lot, they don't seem to mind being patient with the complaint. Worst experience in storage, they want to scam you and charge illegally even you follow the process they explain before signing contract, there is no costumer assistance and everyone tells you "they can't do anything", I have proofs that unit was empty before deadlines, I notify the employee, I send an email to the public storage account, I send an email explaining and attaching EVIDENCE that they were trying to scam me and they are still trying to illegally charge me money.
