I am clearing out my unit TODAY and will never do business here again. I actually referred my sister and a family friend here when I first became a customer and I will be making sure they both clear out their units as well. When I entered into the contract both my husband at the time and I were both present and were told the unit was in our names. Fast forward 2 years and I'm divorced my ex husband moves out of state and they refuse to give me access to a unit that I have made payments on for the past 2 years because my ex was the only one listed on the account! I came into the office clearly stated that they can see I'm the one making payments with my card, my account, I even offered up divorce papers and still nothing. I had to continue paying rent on the unit for 2 more months until my ex could come in person to handle the situation. Then he gives me the keys and I move most of my belongings out at the beginning of the month. I head to the storefront today to clear out the remaining items and can't locate my keys. So here I am, the same person they have seen come in 3 times now about this same unit. Who had keys and access no less than 2-3 weeks ago and I ask if they can cut the lock because I can't locate the keys and this is the last day I will be using the unit. Do you think they accommodated? No they state once again I can't have access. Not even a call or email from the "account" holder would suffice. Now if he can't get here and I can't get my items out by 6 pm guess who gets billed for another month of rent? Exactly. Did I mention their horrible late fees?? A few months ago I called and asked for the balance on the account- I made a payment and then found out the woman I spoke to who told me that I'd be paid through the end of the month was wrong so for a full month I didn't pay the $80 rent because I thought I was current and was charged over $300 in late fees! This has been worst experience I've ever had with any company in my entire life. I will not pay this place another cent after today and I will post this review to every platform they have to hopefully prevent anyone else from being duped by these fools. I can't wait to be completely done with this place.

Extra Space Storage increased my monthly rental rate by 100% for no stated reason. After calling…read morethe business, they stated that is was adjusting my rate to the market demand based on their systems algorithms. They also stated that all the companies in the area are doing this. This 100% rate hike was not listed online, or in the rental agreement. It seems that their market strategy is to lure people in with artificially low rates so that customers will go to all the work of moving their belongings into a unit. After a few months, the company then arbitrarily jacks up the price of the unit by 100%, giving an explanation that all the other places in town do the same thing. Then every 6 months after they levy another massive rate hike, saying that it is matching market demand. They are taking advantage of the time, money, and effort it takes to move out of a unit.

CAUTION - INSECTS AND RODENTS…read more I rented a unit at this location for 6 months in 2018. Upon moving out, I found an infestation of mites in all of my belongings, and clear signs that mice had spent a lot of time in my belongings (droppings, urine) - I even saw two mice running through the halls when I was packing up. This issue costed me approximately $1,000 and a week of my time to resolve, plus an unknown amount in unsalvageable clothes, linens, and other belongings. Note that according to the exterminators I have spoken to, it is unlikely that the storage unit will be able to resolve this issue, so it is highly likely that any other renters (especially on the 3rd floor) would experience the same in the future. As a caution to buyers, it seems as though neither CubeSmart nor your rental insurance provides any protection against rodents or insects, so the losses will be yours to bear. Even if they did, it's most exterminators will not treat an infestation in a storage unit (they will insist that you move your stuff into your home before treating, which is obviously not wise). RECOMMENDED SOLUTION: For those who do find themselves with a similar situation, I recommend that the best solution is to pack your stuff up and bring it to Collins Pest Control (ask for David), which has a fumigation container in Springfield Virginia that will kill anything and everything before you bring it home for a flat fee - not cheap, but fair and worth it to guarantee you don't take CubeSmart's infestation home with you. To be fair to CubeSmart, they offered me a partial 'good faith' refund of approximately 4 month's rent. However, it took weeks of trying to reach them for them to fully react with this offer and it didn't nearly cover the cost of the problem. Plus, I would have had to sign away my right to tell others about this issue, which felt immoral to me, so I chose not to accept.

It then took another hour for them to come to unit to unlock it, followed by another half hour or so for them to get me the right code for the gate. 2. While the unit looked clean inside and out on first inspection, two weeks later there was bird poop all around the upper corner of the garage door. When I opened the door, a bunch of leaf and pine needle debris came out -- enough to fill a medium-sized moving box. It's clear birds were nesting there. 3. When I reported it, they said they'd seal off the top. Why isn't the top already sealed off? Why do you have openings for birds to enter in the first place or why aren't there regular preventative measures? 4. When I came back to check in another two weeks, nothing was sealed and there was more fresh poop and still more debris. 5. It's been less than 2 months and i moved out of the storage unit. More debris, more poop, a super foul smell inside from all of this, and...*drumroll* there were cockroaches crawling all over the back and side of the unit. Basically nobody really cares about anything here. A few of the employees are really nice but they can't be expected to extend themselves if management is blasé or if they are under compensated or overworked.
