An IMMENSE value!…read more Speaking with the owner to schedule was honestly a pleasure, and I felt much less stressed when I got off the phone. I had never hired movers before, but my friends and siblings and I are all getting kinda old and broken Not only was the owner super nice and professional and reassuring, but the team that actually showed up at my house on Saturday was SO SWEET! They were polite and courteous and took great care of our stuff, and one of them even took a special interest in my cat because he was a bit distressed but reminded the guy of his own gray tabby We did have a hiccup, where the truck ended up not being big enough, so the guys had to make two trips, but the owner called to apologize and explain the plan, and we gave the team lead a key to both the house and the storage unit, and two of them very quickly grabbed the rest and came back to our new place, while one guy stayed behind to start unwrapping furniture and help my husband move a couple heavy things my body couldn't handle, just to slide them into place and such. They even helped us get a big heavy box out of my mother-in-law's car (not part of the job, obvs) and took a bunch of our unpacking trash with them when they left cuz it was already bagged up but just wouldn't fit in the outside can. The price was the best I found, and the service was better than I had dreamed. I one THOUSAND percent recommend this team for all your moving needs

Daniel Petra owns 49% of the company; his wife owns 51%. Mr. Petra states on his website "All team members undergo comprehensive background checks and are fully bonded". Following the theft I asked Mr. Petra if his employees were bonded; his reply was that the company was insured but the employees were not bonded. I agree with Johana and TJ P. Daniel sounds like a great guy at the beginning of the process, told me he would be on site at my home to ensure that all went well, and was a no-show. No follow-up from him - he didn't contact me to check on how things went. When I told him about the theft, his response was basically "that's terrible - let me know if I can do anything". Yes, Mr. Petra, you can reimburse me for having to purchase a new vehicle, and you can vette your employees to ensure that you aren't hiring criminals! Petra Moving Company should not be in business. BEWARE! A different company may be more expensive, but you would not have to be concerned about any employees stealing from you. Cheryl H.

First, with a positive, the follow up and customer service is great. It has to be, due to the following comments listed. 2. Moved a 1 bedroom apt( bedframe , mattress, dresser , 2 TVs , and a sofa), and it took 5 hours , with a locked elevator , in the same building, separated by 2 floors.Everything additional was boxed or bagged. No loose items. 3. They attempted to change the charges the day of the move , even though we had confirmed less than 24 hours prior. Claimed the 3rd person Was due to their double booking, snow , etc . And the additional man would speed up the process . Did i mention this simple 1 bedroom move took 5 hours for an in building, one bedroom transfer? Does that seem expedited ? Everything was a group effort, and teaching moment. this slowed the move down. For example, it Took 20 minutes of discussion to figure out how to disassemble a bed frame efficiently . Constantly going back and forth to the moving truck on the clock ( for what idk ) . If not watched , disappearing for 15-20 minutes at a time . 4. I was advised that I could leave my dresser items in the drawers, and they could move them efficiently. I now have to find someone to take my dresser apart, due to items some how making their way to inside unreachable areas insiders dresser. 5. I have to find someone to reassemble my sofa. They didn't put it back together. 6. You're charged 30 minutes to and from . So, you owe an hour before they start . They didn't have to leave the property, but charged me fuel . How do you charge someone fuel, and time for arrival, and departure ? Seems like the rate is only labor . You're also charged for any items used to rap to transport furniture . The intimation that they try to give you when you book is that is inclusionary. 7. With a discount, A DISCOUNT, this move cost me $1,000. Between the random 3rd man up charge , wrapping items for the large furniture , fuel charge , insurance that they make you cover that they don't disclose until the last minute that is almost $200 additional ... 8. Moved my items into the hallway, and left them there unattended while moving. 9. Even if you pay by phone, they want you to write your credit card information on a random piece of paper. It's a hard NO, for me. Yes, I signed, and let them go about their business. It's exhausting to keep debating obvious discrepancies, and hidden fees during a move which is a top 3 stressor in general. Just .... Don't . Use someone else .

I worked with a different moving company 2 years ago that left me scarred for life with how rude and unprofessional they were. I ended up having to finish the job myself (moving my giant couch up four flights of stairs), so when I knew I was moving again, I did my due diligence and sought out a few quotes. Another company quoted me almost $800 and required a 3 hour minimum for the job!! $800 seemed steep and I knew the job wouldn't take that long... Along came Bookstore Movers who quoted me a reasonable $470 minimum for two hours of work and a maximum of $680 for 3.5 hours of work (price breakdown: $140 per hour with 2 hour min. plus a $190 truck fee). I received a quote within a few hours of requesting it. There was no deposit required and the date was booked. I received detailed emails leading up to the move about FAQs, tips for a seamless move, and the names of my crew including contact info for the crew lead. Abdul (crew lead), Niiwayo "Y.O", and Milly were SO fast and friendly. They wrapped every single item with care in drop cloths and got to moving immediately. Despite the 90 degree heat and a total of five flights of stairs, the job was finished in 2 hours. I was SO impressed. I was so traumatized by my last move that I literally had to walk away while they moved the couch in but before I knew it, I got a text from my boyfriend telling me they had fit it through the door and our living room was all set up. I was so relieved and happy to work with them. If and when we move again, (hopefully not anytime soon, lol), I will 100% be contacting Bookstore Movers... and you should too!

I'll be blunt: fuck this company. I'd give 0 stars or negative if I could. I should've read more…read morereviews prior to hiring these incompetent people. Now, reading the other reviews, I feel like I dodged a bullet in a way. I'm actually flabbergasted this company is still functioning or allowed to operate. I plan to complain to BBB. To preface: I honestly don't even know what location my movers were coming out of. The paperwork was inconsistent. My paperwork listed Crofton, MD, but the individual I spoke with over the phone said they just have their Red Branch location now, so I assumed that's where they'd be coming from. I wouldn't trust any/either of the Maryland locations at all though. I booked a move roughly two weeks ago. A SMALL, very SIMPLE move. Just about 1 bedroom worth of stuff to a studio apartment 30 mins away (Dundalk to Towson). I spoke with Chantel on the phone and she was relatively nice and helpful. I paid a $100 deposit. As the move approached I received numerous calls, voicemails and texts to confirm my move. I confirmed with them over the phone. My new building is a high rise and I had to reserve a loading dock and freight elevator and the reservations are 3-hour time blocks. I blocked off 11am-2pm at the loading dock, informed the movers of this, and they assured me they would be at my place to begin the move between 8:30 and 10am-ish. At 9am I got a call from Two Men and the guy said he wanted to be "really transparent with me" and informed me that he had a "bunch of guys with the flu called out sick" and he would be unable to perform my move today. He asked if I could reschedule my move for 4 DAYS LATER on CHRISTMAS EVE. Are you fucking kidding me??! All my belongings were in boxes, I had slept on the couch because I took apart my bed and moved my mattress (in order to make the move easier for the movers), and I had nowhere to sleep for another 4 nights, nor any clothes, shower items, etc because everything was IN BOXES READY TO MOVE. What the hell?! I had this reservation for 2 weeks!! He then said he could do it tomorrow (so somehow he went from "I can do this 4 days from now" to "I can do this tomorrow" ??). He said he'd do it at a discount. I asked how large of a discount? He said he couldn't tell me LOL Are you kidding me? You're offering me a discount but can't tell me how much, what a joke. Unacceptable. At that point I was 1) running late to my loading dock reservation time, 2) very upset and angry, and 3) had a VERY bad feeling about these movers and no longer trusted anything they said or had to offer me. It was so obvious they were lying blatantly to my face lmao They really think I'm fucking stupid. I don't believe for one second that "all your guys are sick." Boo fucking hoo. Not my problem. Hire more employees so you can cover for the ones who are out sick. I am PAYING YOU to do YOUR JOB! How do I even know your guys are "sick" for real. I doubt they're even actually sick. They were probably just out late drinking the previous night or whatever and called in "sick." Whether they're sick or not is not the point. The point is that I DO NOT CARE, I paid for a service and I expect that service to be carried out. I got so pissed, I didn't even bother to call these idiots back. I am lucky to have some very supportive, very kind friends who stepped up for me and we performed the move ourselves in roughly 4 hours; myself, one man, and my (currently pregnant) best friend. To be clear: my PREGNANT best friend (who can't lift heavy objects at the moment) was more helpful than these ""two men."" Thanks to my friend's help, I completed my move without this shitty company, and I also got my deposit back (after my friend advocated for me and demanded it back). DO NOT HIRE. DO NOT LET THESE PEOPLE LIE TO YOU. DO NOT LET THEM LEAVE YOU HIGH AND DRY. DO NOT TRUST. I truly don't understand how they can expect people to simply reschedule a move the day of. A move is a pre-planned, pre-arranged ordeal. I don't need to explain this but many moves have a time constraint: my time constraint was just a loading dock, but often times people absolutely HAVE to have all their belongings out of a place by a certain day and time or their stuff could simply be thrown in the street. Sometimes emergencies happen and people have to move out FAST (for safety reasons, for their kids, so they can start a new job right away, etc). I'm lucky I wasn't currently in a situation like that, but it's unacceptable for a moving company to cancel on you last minute or not show up when your whole life revolves around your move and your housing situation. I am ultimately so glad these people never touched any of my belongings. My friends and I used our collective strength, motivation, savvy, and hustle to complete my move with one platform dolly and 2 SUV's. My friend said it best: it's a case of "if you want something done right DO IT YOURSELF."

BEYOND POOR This…read moreplace is the worst. You can never get through on the phone, you can leave a message in the black hole of a voice mail it will never be returned, you go there and there's a stupid clock saying "Being back at...", the receptionist who also lives there is a chain smoker (yes second hand smoke) with dogs that run around her desk and help her conduct business, by leaping and jumping at the window where you have to sign forms and pay your bill. When we moved the truck we reserved wasn't even available, we ended up being put in a pick-up to move a large house because their "trucks" were not functioning. This cost us twice the amount we would have paid and all she gave us was a $10 discount. We are now making plans to move our personal belongings out of this storage unit to another location that knows how to conduct business. Where the receptionist doesn't live there so it's not like your visiting her home, chain smoke, wild dogs, and oh her adult children in and out while your discussiing person account information. Her children just cut in with their updates on what they are doing around the place. Tacky. When requesting to speak with the owner of the storage facility regarding our issues with this place we were told we have to leave a message with the receptionist/live in tenant and all he is going to do is tell us the same that she did. What kind of crap is that? And as you know, the owner NEVER called. I'm sure that message was disgarded. Or the owner just doesn't care as long as he is getting money of the storage units. This place is the WORST. You can do better elsewhere, please shop around. Take it from someone who has been there and experienced this super poor service!
