So happy to finally be out of this place. Avoid this location. My storage unit was broken into, many things stolen. They were not in a hurry to fix my storage unit so for a couple weeks my unit was accessible. The people who broke into my unit got a ladder and basically pried open wire roofing. The company took two weeks to fix it and their temporary solution was just to zip tie it. So basically I was paying over $140-160 dollars for an insecure storage unit. Signs say they treat your stuff like your own. They most definitely do not.

I just left public storage walking down the hallway I kept seeing these small little black pieces realize they were rat shit, the place is ridiculously dirty. Out in the street there was food KFC boxes, soda, papers, trash disgusting .When I got my Halloween box home I could tell There had been a rat in there. They should have someone doing maintenance 24 hours a day they should power wash once a week. There's one person working I asked her where the maintenance man was she said she was it. The only thing public storage cares about is making money they could give a crap about people stuff. I will be calling corporate tomorrow I can't believe I was breathing in rat shit and paying to do it. 4 days later still no call back from anyone at public storage. I can't understand why they wouldn't notify people that there was a rat problem, so that people could make a decision whether not they wanted to leave their items there. Oh I know why they didn't want to lose money. read more

Rodent infestation. Filthy. Went here 3 months after moving some personal effects into self-storage. Rat droppings everywhere. Lots of droppings. The woman at the front desk said it was a problem because they have a lot of homeless people sleeping in their units, and the food they bring attracts the rats. Do yourself a favor a favor and find a self storage facility away from the beach. read more

The storage facility itself is ok but the staff are rarely available and the property manager, Doug Prebele, does a horrible job of fixing problems. The 2 lights in front of my unit have been out for 4 months. I have complained multiple times, and the lights still have not been looked at or fixed!!! I have requested a callback from the property manager, Doug, and have never heard back from him. If you have any problems with your unit, don't expect to have them fixed but expect that you will continue to have to pay your rent which will increase annually!!! read more

I'm with this people for 5 years paying on time, my rent went from$100 to $125 to $149 to $164....$179 now if you are a GOOD customer and stay longer , THEY PUNISH YOU CHARGING YOU MORE!!!!! As soon as I can I'm changing to another Storage. THIEVES!!!!!!!! Now $174.00. Whomever owns this place Should be in jail read more

I have used several self-storage companies through the years and while I have generally had a good experience with all including Public Storage this particular Public Storage location in Carlsbad Village is hands down the worst. It is not secure as I am aware of several customers who have experienced losses. The management is confused and wildly inconsistent and I get the sense all they want is to get an opportunity to sell your belongings. In a word this place is DISHONEST. read more

I went on line to reserve a 10x15 storage unit. I went to the facility to view my unit and complete the lease. When I went to the unit with the facility representative she showed me a unit that was considerably smaller. I walked it off and it appeared to be about 9x6. The agent said all units are approximate in size and this is the unit I chose! I showed her the paperwork that clearly stated a 10'x15' was what I wanted. She told me that she had a couple 10'x15' units available but, at a substantially higher price! She said she would talk to her manager and call back. She gave me her area managers name and number. To this date, over 2 months later, I have never received a return call! read more

These guys kill it! Super helpful through our whole process of moving stuff in and they shared a ton of experience that helped us out a lot. Also they talked us into a smaller unit which actually ended up fitting all of our stuff perfect with walking room to spare once we put stuff in boxes. Price was great and check in only took a few minutes. Entire move in process only took a couple hours. 5/5 read more

I rented a storage unit there because of the location and definitely not due to their friendliness. The 1 $ first month offer applies only to certain units, which you will find out after you turn your reservation into a contract and that, of course yours is the last unit of that size and therefore can't be given the discount. In addition, an administration fee of 22.00 and the obligatory lock of 18.00 have to be paid. Terrible experience! But once you have paid their initial "extras" it looks like a safe and clean spot. Let's hope! read more

Be careful. The manager raises rates annually (after all, you're all moved in and stuck there) and even though I've been with them since they opened years ago and always have paid on-time, and even have another PS Storage unit in Los Angeles, she didn't hesitate to charge me a $21 late fee because my autopay came in $11 short of the new raised rate I had not realized was in place. Paid the $11 difference immediately, but because I paid through my bank, she considered it too late and charged an additional $21. NOT GOOD BUSINESS - NOT ETHICAL BUSINESS MANNER. The day that I wrote this I had received an email reminder that my late payment penalty was due. Manager had told me that she would call her supervisor to see if this could be waived. Apparently not. Several days after posting this I received a call from the manager telling me that she had spoken with her supervisor and that person had waived the penalty fee. I can't figure out why it should take that long, but I appreciate the break. read more

History

Established in 1972.

The first Public Storage building opened in El Cajon California, but the new business was only supposed to be temporary. Two partners pioneered the concept as a way to use their real estate investment while they waited for the Southern California community to take off and value of their land to grow. They kept building, and people continued to fill their units. Eventually the pair realized that self-storage was here to stay, and they never looked back. Today, there are thousands of neighborhood Public Storage locations to choose from, many right around the corner from you.

Recently my truck was broken into while I was in Mexico and my purse along with all of my credit cards in my bank card were stolen. This made it impossible for me to pay my storage bill when it came due. I had been on auto pay, but once the cards were killed, that was no longer relevant. Andre went way out of his way to call and remind me that the bill was due, he even let me know how many days I had to work with before a late charge would be assessed once I realize that I wasn't going to be able to use my bank card in time he immediately sent me a form which was super easy to fill out online, allowing my bank account to be linked to my auto pay, and the funds were immediately available so that my items in storage were safe and sound Andre followed up with me to make sure that I had it done if I needed any help he was there for me and just overall compassionate and understanding! DO NOT MOVE ANY OF YOUR BELONGINGS TO THIS PUBLIC STORAGE IN CARLSBAD, ON TYLER AVE!!!!!! They are completely infested with RATS!!! Look @ the pics. A picture is worth a 1000 words! Plus, they go through your things and then blame it on the rats, destroying your things ! So that basically means stealing some of your precious items! Stacy is extremely rude and disrespectful.... I had given them a notice of my move out, she even warned me that my unit might look different than when I last saw it. Why ? Because she said they had a big rat problem! I have had many storage units and not once had I heard something so hideous. Well no wonder you must have renter's insurance. No one wants diseased rodents, rummaging through their personal items and family heirlooms. I am so devastated, as I had irreplaceable heirlooms in that storage unit. Rat droppings are everywhere in that 5X10 unit . I will use my renter's insurance to recover some of my damages. There are so many storage choices . Please leave Public Storage out of the equation, if you care about your personal items and don't want them destroyed. PS think their name means quality since they have been around longer than most of the smaller companies. Yet, they have no integrity in their service. They are quick to charge you fees and will quickly put a lien on property and have your things auctioned to the highest bidder.
