This is the worst service I've ever received from a storage company. Firstly, the employee did not at all seemed interested in renting us a space. After going through the paperwork with her barely explaining everything, she then told us that the place closed at 5p. We rented a U-Haul and rushed to pack our things to get it back but upon arriving around 4:45 PM, we noticed the gate was closed and the employee was outside taking a cigarette break. She refused to open the gate for us and did not explain that the access code we had could open it. After calling the one 1-800-number who explained to me about the access code she continued to sit at the desk and did not speak to us. We saw customers coming out of the place but she said they were the last ones. After asking for the managers name and number from the representative on the one 800 line, I called him and explained that we were there 15 minutes before closing and the employee refused to assist us. She did not explain that it would be closing before 5 PM. He apologized for the miscommunication and told us that she would assist us until 5:30 PM. I had to call the manager about three times before she got up and gave us access to the space. One of the nastiest attitudes I've ever encountered. We paid for a one month rental but I will NEVER rent from this place again! read more

Put a two bedroom apartment in two units at this storage facility for two years. To my horror when I went to move out on June 23rd 2018, one of my units was infested with BEDBUGS! All of the blankets the movers used to wrap my stuff were eaten by mice. And then the run around by Management before they finally agreed to dispose of the items in the unit. They behaved as if they were doing me a favor!! I paid Public Storage close to $12,000 over the two years and then lost an entire unit with furniture, clothing, books, linens, shoes and a whole lot more, with a conservative value of about $6,000. The insurers will pay $250.00 for vermin, less a $100 deductible!!! People beware of this facility. The front office is clean. The bathroom and units, well that is a different matter! Where to start, the workers there are polite at least the ones that I have been seeing the last couple of times I've been going. I wish I remember their names, but for sure 2 females who work Sunday morning. The district manger was called for an issue and he did straighten it out I am very grateful. The establishment itself, I would never again bring my stuff there! I had mice feces all in my things, boxes draws everything. I was so upset at all the stuff I had to throw away because of that issue. The mice issue is terrible. Today I was finally able to pick up my personal things from this Horrible Public Storage from Utica, brooklyn. I don't understand the nice clean reviews I read in there site, it's been the opposite each time I've gone to bring in things. Bad customer service as well. Anyway I took pictures to back up my claim. I had a few items that were missing from my storage, which I don't understand why someone would steal a brand new beach chair with canopy and a brand new gas plastic container. Inside my storage there was Rat poison pellets. Didn't know if they have rats, haven't spotted one. But the poison only indicate they do have them. Gross... They only had one docking station working, the other one was broken. I only found 2 carts on the entire location, I gave up one to some other people moving their stuff out as well. Garbage on the floor, dirty bathroom. Non working hand dryer and no paper towels. No soap to wash your hands. The office facility had paper on the floor on front, flying garbage as well. People take the extra drive to nicer place because this place is not worth it and if you're late a couple of days there's a 22.00 late charge. They immediately places an additional lock on your storage unit. Which happen to me recently, I paid my unit a couple of days late once, and fine I paid as well the late charges why they did not remove the additional lock! When I visited yesterday after making my payments 3 weeks ago, they had plenty of time on removing the extra lock off my storage and they didnt. I had to make a trip back to the office to ask them why is an extra lock on my storage. I really didn't know they do they if you are late. I've never paid them late. They quick on raising your payments when your contract is up. Manager never called me after multiple messages. I'm a very nice person and polite. I was only airing my concerns. Bad place, I'm just gluten for punishment for tolerating so much until I came to my senses. read more

I have certainly have seen better. The biggest issues: -closes at 5:30 pm on weekdays and 4:30 pm weekends (if you work normal business hours -- it's inaccessible to you during the week) -there is no light in the units (WTF!) The price is more than I would have preferred, actually quite high, especially after the 1st-year special, but this is NYC. The place is tolerably clean, but it's not sparkling white freshly painted like in the pictures, and in the units, it's all old and dirty, haven't been renovated since the facility was built, probably, some 40 yrs ago. They have only 2 carts and often somebody is using them when you need them, and the huge latters on wheels to get to the "attic" storage units are always sit in the middle of the corridors in the way that you have to move them out of the way (which is not an easy task!!!) to be able to roll the cart to your unit. any financial/billing questions you have to resolve with a manager which is only available on the cell phone, if and when he picks it up, and he is never in front of the computer to look at your account and discuss the issue, he takes your inquiry while behind the wheel, not able to even take decent notes, and never calls you back. Totally broken system And again, the people at the counter who sell units, tend the place and help customers on the every day basis, are unbelievably good, polite, caring and going out of their way to be helpful, which is quite unprecedented -- they actually show amazing positive attitude in such a awfully badly run place. They are, very possibly, what may be keeping many tenants in place. Nothing negative in this review applies to these guys and gels. But don't get fulled by their amazing attitude, the place is something end entirely under the hood. ***I am adding additional experience which finally forced me to leave this place last summer of 2017. Although they have extended their hours on the weekdays till 7 pm, another huge problem started happening. I had a debit card which was linked to my bank account where my salary is deposited, so there is always money in there, set on auto-payment, when the rent if my unit was already $300 a month. But after one automatic payment, this option was being switched off, as if automatically, which every time resulted in missing the dead line for the payment (7 days into the month), and the people in the front desk would call me in the 8th day to tell me that the payment wasn't made on time, which was adding $80 of the late fee to my due amount. This has repeated at least 6 times, after which I left the place. I consider this to be a deliberate rip-off, I even was considering taking them to the small claims court. In my first year there, I was getting a call from the front desk in the 5th day, if the payment wasn't made. Now I was being notified on the 8th day, when I already would have incurred the $80 (!!!) late fee. When this happened then first time, when I had my bank account set up as a source of payment, they said that there were insufficient funds there. And from there in blocked my ability to use bank account, which doesn't really make make much difference, but then they were turning off auto-payment after one time, as if their system was designed to do that, and cause customers to pay the late fee. Only in this place, some shady manager on the cell phone, always driving or doing god knows what, but not in the office in from the of the computer, whom I never seen or got any help from, ever, had access to my account. You can make your own conclusions. My recommendation to anybody: Stay away from this place if you can, or limit your rent to 1 year. The longer you are the tenant, the more they would be finding ways to such more money from you. 1st year anniversary: a promotional rate of $90 goes up to twice to $180 2nd year anniversary: rent price increase to $240 (take it or leave it), because their operational costs got higher 3rd year anniversary: rent is increased to $300 for the same kind of cock-and-bull reasons (pay it or leave) 4th year -- start causing late fees on the already huge rent. This places's business model is based on identifying and praying on hoarders. I have been renting the unit in Califormia, from a local place, to store camping equipment and skies, and there my move-in discount was being extended year after year, keeping my rent at some $35 a month. That's how you get appreciated as a customer. I do get that in NYC there is a huge overpopulation problem, but taking advantage of people is unacceptable (although in NYC it may be the norm). read more

The workers here are rude and very lazy. They really act like they're doing you a Favor. I came to make a payment, which is usually just a 5 minute transaction, but even though they close at 6pm, the gates were closed at 5:40. I was not able to gain entry to the facility and in turn ended up getting charged a late fee. Smh!!! Also I've recently been seeing mouse droppings in my unit. This is highly upsetting. read more

I had the pleasure of communicating with the facility's Manager this morning, Mr. John Meister. His staff contacted him to locate my new keys because my lock had been replaced during their site renovations a few years ago. I called the location that morning to confirm that my mother could have access to her stuff and confirm what supporting proof she required. I complied with every request, Once she arrived, they were unable to find the keys so they contacted the Manager who was initially nonresponsive. Not only did Mr. Meister call me back angry, I got yelled at and spoken to like trash. While trying to explain the disconnect, Mr. Meister told me to be quiet and stop talking several times throughout the conversation. I was so shocked at how hostile he was, I thought I had done something significantly wrong to trigger him so I apologized for cutting him off because I couldn't hear so well. I then asked him to take a few steps back so we could start over, but he didn't let up. All of this while my elderly mother was left patiently standing at the facility waiting for missing keys and his call back. If anything, he should have been the one apologizing for the misinformation and subsequent wait. Since when do customers have to calm Managers down and ask for mutual respect? When they have no respoect for the people or community it serves, that when. Good grief! Moral of the story: When you have choices, exercise them by spending your money where it's valued. I've already secured another facility as a point of principle. read more

Very unhappy, not only do they have mice issues that they only tell you to call and make an insurance claim ( no sorry somethings can't be replaced that have sentimental values) this isn't my first time with this exact property on Utica and I had hoped things would have gotten better in 2018! So not only a mice issue but no lights to even see in your storage unit. fine I get that but why are you raising up the rent twice within a year! I went from paying 150 to now receiving an email that my rent will be $200 that's ridiculous for a room with mice running all over it. I work in the extermination field and this is not sanitary to have rodents running around peoples property and then not solving the problem and on top of that raising the rent. Terrible customer service! Rude workers, the time frame to get your items is unreliable. You only have access to your storage mon- fri 9:30-6pm sat-sun 9-5pm. How stupid? Why would they close earlier on the weekends? Between the hours and the poor customer service save yourself the energy and attitude and store your items elsewhere. Honestly, I had a pretty decent experience with the facility until it was time to move out. Sure it's dirty and sure the staff are all lower class rude people, but it's a public storage facility, and these people are making minimum wage, so it is what it is. My only issues with PS were: 1. They can and they WILL change your monthly amount due without any notice. I signed up for $176/mo and within a few months it went up to $206/mo. I never called to complain bc what's the point. I just want to let you know before you sign up, that if you sign up under one of those promo offers, that expires at some point and you will be charged whatever amount they decide, and most likely without any warning or notification until your next bill. The contract never states what the promo period is/was, and the person who signed me up just said this is the amount you pay each month and that could change "anytime". So be ready for rate changes at "anytime". 2 At the time that I signed up, I was told that as long as I vacate the space before the 6th of the month, the month would be prorated, and I'd be charged per day. I'm moving out on the 5th, and was told that they "don't do that anymore". Oh. Ok, As of when? Apparently (and conveniently) that policy changed "last month", and of course, not a word or warning from PS to let me know of that policy change. The district manager was also not willing to work with me on this issue either, despite the fact that I've always auto-debited my payment from my account on the 1st of each month. Never had any issues, never complained when they raised my rate without even the slightest peep. Bottom line: If you have to move or have a life event that requires the need of a public storage facility, I'd imagine that they are all somewhat comparable. I recommend reading the fine print and only using it for as little as you need to. The longer you rent, the more you'll pay and the longer it gives this company to change its policies. I would never use this place again. PS Once I vacate this weekend, I'll be filing a claim with the Better Business Bureau to try to reclaim the portion of the bill I just paid that should've been prorated. read more

We stored all of our belongings at this public storage for three years while we lived overseas, and we never once had a problem. My father had to cuss out one of the employees because she was so RUDE and didn't know he was with me. She was shook after that. I don't know where to begin and if you check all the reviews no one even cares to write anything back that's the first clue, they don't care. Mice problem is ridiculous, they raise the prices on the units and on top of that have mice and they run across all your belongings. They are quick to raise the price and quick to lock up your stuff if you miss a payment which is horrible especially if you've been a long time customer. They are not taking into consideration that by raising the price obviously that's more money for us consumers to come up with to pay. Obviously, the Top CEO of this company could care less or else all its locations would be spotless and provide better customer service. It's a shame that with as many evictions and rent hikes totally out of control that you can't even feel at peace without your items being threatened to be auctioned off like its nothing to them. THEY MAKE THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE UNCOMFORTABLE. 1) When you first enter they do not say hello, they just carry on with inappropriate conversations. One girl sits on her phone texting and talking with headphones in her ears. 2) There is no one to assist you with the heavy ladder, if you have a upper level unit. 3) The place is supposed to close at 6:00pm. My sister and I were leaving a little after 5 and they were already closing the gates and locked us inside. We had to go back to them so they can re-open the gates to let us out. Other cars were still parked there, people were still there, and they were saying that they're closed. It was far from 6pm. 4) My sister has a storage unit there. I do not. I do not help her pay for the unit, it is hers and under her name. I recently moved and I need a place to hold my things however her unit does not have enough space. So I decided I would get my own unit to hold my own things. I reserved a unit online and then went in to confirm it, pay my fees and move in. The girl at the Front Desk's name was Hannah. She showed me the space and gave me the keys. Then we went to fill out the paperwork and she told me I can't use the same address as my sister. So I'm like okay I'll use my mom's address. She rudely told me that she cannot give me the storage space for $1/ month promotion because my sister already has a storage space at that location. I'm like okay. I am not my sister. We are two different people. Why are you denying me service just because my sister has a unit. Where in your policy does it say that family members are not allowed to have units at the same location. That's discriminatory. So now I have to find another location to bring my things. I don't even want to ask my sister to hold my stuff because Hannah makes me feel uncomfortable leaving my things at that location. It is wrong to deny a customer service. I reserved my unit a week in advance, I was ready to pay all fees necessary, I was already focused on moving in and now I have to find a different location that hopefully has the same size space available. Just because of something as silly as "sisters cant have storage spaces at the same location." I don't even think that's a rule. Not to mention, she rudely asked me for the keys back after she had already shown me the space, given me the lock and I put the keys away. I think Hannah is just disrespectful. Anyone who denies a customer service should not be working in customer service. 5) The units are dark and defective. Even the ladders are shaking and defective. I saw a woman walk into her unit and her things were falling on her while she was searching for something because it was so dark in there. She said the next time she would bring a flashlight. She shouldn't even have to. The place gets zero stars. They just lost two customers because I will be advising my sister to move her things from that location. This location is very convenient and professional. The young lady that helped me was very friendly and sweet. I came on a busy Saturday and with a packed office the employees there seem to get the job done. I have some minor concerns when it comes to the lighting and push carts because there aren't many but, overall the location is great, as well as the customer service. read more
