    Bleeding cuticle
    Molly G.

TL;DR: painful and okay finished product I've been to this salon twice and been disappointed both times. The first was for a pedicure and while it came out pretty good, the cuticle cleaning and the "massage" were downright painful. The tech kept digging his fingers into my shin bone, awful. On my most recent visit for a gel manicure the tech actually ripped my cuticles apart. I think (hope) it was more nervousness/awkwardness but he actually chuckled when I flinched a couple times. I left the salon with two bleeding fingers and a couple others with some polish on my skin. I had a fantastic salon I loved in Cambridge but just haven't found a go to spot in JP after living here two years. I won't be returning to PS.

    Nice

Me and my friend went together, we are ticklish and they made it very simple so wasn't to bad! However when they were getting the musty dusty crusty dirt from under our toe nails we squealed in pain, the acetone burned my feet but that was not their fault, the boys were a bit aggressive and were trying to go pretty fast but other than that very cheap and clean! I will be coming back!!

Gel mani done a few hours ago (because of how far out the polish is from the cuticle, it looks like my nails already grew out)

In short, I wouldn't go back and felt like I had wasted my time and money: 1. The place had plastic dividers in place but was very packed (almost someone in every seat as if it was during non COVID times). I decided to come back when it was a bit less crowded but regardless I did not see active cleaning of seats between customers 2. My technician couldn't understand basic things I was trying to tell him. As an immigrant myself, I'm understanding of the language barriers but when working in a customer service job, I think they should at least be able to understand your requests related to the service being provided. 3. Not surprised that my gel mani and pedi were not done properly. The polish was very thick and not evenly applied. He put 3-4 layers of polish (plus top coat) which made the polish layer very thick and bulgy. He also didn't paint close enough to my cuticles or edge of my nails, even though I tried to communicate my concerns to him. They did offer to redo the gel mani for me another day (I guess because they were busy at the moment) but it's a hassle to go back another day so at the end of it all, I wouldn't go back.

    Nice colour done by Tina

Overall a very good salon. Great small business of JP. My only recommendation is that you call before you'd like to come, and ask if they have time. People have walked in and I've seen them wait an hour. I've never had to do that. Tina is wonderful and really nice. I recommend her for pedicures gel or lacquer.

Lisa always delivers and makes my ideas a reality!

I have had 99.9% positive experiences here! I think it's always good to give a business its props...so here goes: 1) Thorough service on manicure and pedicures 2) Extensive selection of colors 3) They staff does their best to match what you want 4) Lisa! Lisa! Lisa! She simply provides impeccable service and indulges my nail art dreams:-) 5) The paraffin after ever manicure, the hot stones for every pedicure and freshly sanitized tools for each client! I'm consistently and pleasantly pleased. Tip #1: coming on a weekend will always mean it's busy...so their is a possibility of a wait, call ahead for an appointment if you can. Tip #2: this business only accepts cash tips. So bring a few dollars or run to the CVS across the street to tip your nail technician

Yeah I'm not sure what's going on but they're service has gone downhill. I walked in and literally three women who walked in with no appointment after me were already told to be seated to get serviced? I spoke up and asked why were they serviced before me when I walked in before them. The lady responded that the someone will service me in 5 minutes? Ok? Another to notice is that they give you these cards where each time you receive a service from them they stamp them. After a certain amount of stamps you receive a free manicure. That's a lie one time I receive the maximum of stamps and showed it to them. The lady took my card and didn't give me the free manicure instead took the card and didn't give it back to me? Currently looking for a new nail place. Another issue recently the lady put my hand in hot wax. I'm not sure if they measure the temperature before but the wax was piping hot and told her that it was too hot and I didn't want it. And I just got my nails done recently two Days ago and it's already growing up. The work that they do here is very basic no cute designs, so yea! Currently looking elsewhere!

    Not the same color
    Andrea D.

I went for a last minute appointment on a day I didn't have time to go downtown and I regret not waiting. My technician kept cutting when I said it hurt and proceeded to make me bleed. I asked for a color they had in gel and regular for toes and hands, it wasn't until I left that I realized the two colors were not the same. Was using a paper towel to clean up edges? Color is uneven with a dark color.

    Reward card?? Student discount?? Awesome!!

Dear PS Nails & Spa, I only just met you, but I already foresee a long and happy relationship. I walked in at 7:20 -- didn't know they closed at 7:30 -- but they were bumpin' and after waiting a few, I was seated for my Classic Spa Pedicure ($25). While waiting, a nice older gent brought me a mini bottled water. A middle-aged man did my pedi and was very very good. I especially loved the exfoliating rub/massage prior to the pumice scrub. It was really invigorating! His attention to detail with the foot scrub was great -- they didn't seem to be rushing at all, which is awesome because that is how it seems at a lot of other nail salons. 45 minutes into this, the actual nail polish started being applied. So, no, this isn't a "quick" pedi, but that works for me -- pedis are a "treat", so pampering is appreciated. They also do a hot stone rub after the regular lotion massage. I can't imagine what the Deluxe Spa Pedicure ($35) includes because what else could I possibly want!? Since I started my pedi at their closing time, I saw a lot of their shut-down process and they are meticulous about cleaning -- wiping down outsides of trash cans, the storage caddies for the pedi tools, etc. Also, a customer walked in at 8:30 for an eyebrow wax, and even though it was a full hour after technical closing, a female employee insisted that it was no problem to do. EXCELLENT customer service. I will definitely be back. Sincerely, A new fan PS (nails & spa). I love you.

12 days later and my regular mani has no chips at all! If it wasn't for the new growth I'd be good as new!

Fellow Yelpers did not steer me in the wrong direction with this awesome nail salon! Having just moved to Boston, it was imperative for me to find a new salon to frequent. I went to PS two Sundays ago and my regular manicure is STILL unchipped. If I didn't have new growth, my manicure would be good as new. Absolutely fantastic! My pedicure is still holding strong as well. My overall experience during my visit was pleasant. As other Yelpers mentioned, water bottle upon sitting down in the pedicure chair, hot stone massage for your feet and legs, and paraffin treatment during your manicure, all for a mere $35. I see no reason for me to go anywhere else. Even though my stay in JP is over and I'm moving to more permanent digs in Lower Allston, I'll be taking a biweekly ride back this way for my mani-pedi (and probably some Cuban food down the street at Oriental for good measure)!

Terrible experience. All I wanted was a simple color change on my acrylic nails. Firstly, they had me waiting for 45 minutes with my hands in remover. They took not one, not two, but THREE people who did not have appointments ahead of me. Then the lady who sat down to assist me took off my nails. Why the hell did she do that? I said a color change. Then she painted my own nails without cleaning the cuticle or edges not to mention she rushed the paint job. The kicker? A color change is 10 but she charged me 17. I'm livid right now and I will most definitely not be returning to this salon.

    Regular polish

Reasonable prices and amazing results! My first time today and they definitely did their thing , no complaints, great color selection.

The Mani to my Pedi :-)

Instead, I ended up coming back every 2-3 weeks for nearly eight years -- and that alone says everything. Monica is truly exceptional. I get builder gel nails with gel polish, and her work is consistently beautiful, precise, and long-lasting. But what really sets her apart is who she is as a person and professional. She owns the business and somehow manages to do everything at once -- welcoming clients, answering phones, supporting other techs with their clients -- all while giving you her full, undivided attention. She is the most observant and attentive person I've ever met. You never feel rushed, forgotten, or like just another appointment. Over the years, seeing her that often, Monica became a very dear friend. We know each other's lives deeply -- the big things, the small things, the in-between seasons. Saying goodbye when I moved to Virginia was genuinely one of the hardest goodbyes of the entire move. On top of everything else, her prices are extremely reasonable, especially for the level of care, consistency, and artistry she provides. If you're lucky enough to get on Monica's books, don't take it for granted. She's not just an incredible nail tech -- she's the kind of person who makes a routine appointment feel like a constant in your life. Polish n Refine is something truly special because of her.
