While the food is delicious, the attention to detail and service here is horrible. It's unfortunate that this is the only Thai place near my office because we get takeout here fairly frequently. Twice now, however, they have neglected items in the order but charged for them. Once, they did not sauce or provide any on the side for an entree. When you call to report the error, they won't bring you the missing items or refund the card. They will offer a credit the next visit, but it's not remembered. When you go back to get the item, it's argued. I was told I didn't order the item even though it was on my receipt I presented. Again, tasty food. Perhaps dine in only though and skip the take out... read more

We used to really like this place, but recently I feel like I've been taken to the cleaners! Sub-par food quality and very small portions. I ordered duck curry and it was over cooked, flabby and sad. Half my duck was fat and skin. When I removed that, I was left with 3oz of dark grey meat. Maybe it was buzzard? The chili noodles are delicious, but we only got 5 or 6 bites. Rice noodles are super cheap, so this makes no sense at all. The best dish here is the Crying Tiger- no complaints, delicious and a nice portion. Overall this place is way too expensive for their measly portions! read more

Pru Thai has been my favorite Thai restaurant for years. The food is extraordinary, the ambiance is very nice and the staff is efficient and friendly. I particularly recommend the Crying Tiger. The steak comes from the kitchen moderately spiced with a much spicier dipping sauce on the side. Pineapple fried rice is another taste pleaser read more

This place is still open and going strong! They have expanded and have more tables. Love the food here. App sampler is great. Duck tamarind is my favorite. So glad this place is still around. It's one of the best in town. read more

Not a bad place if you are local and dont want to really go out far to eat. If you like spicy be sure to ask for three or four stars as their dishes are not as spicy as a lot of other thai places I have visited. Nice quaint place low lit with the standard byob. You would expect more food for the price so don't go really hungry unless you plan on ordering twice. read more

I was never a big fan of Thai food until my family began eating at Pru Thai. Their fresh ingredients have made me a Thai food loving convert! The food is really tasty, and the menu is vast. Once, I was really craving a particular thai fish dish that wasn't on the menu. The chef made it special for me that night. They are really accomodating. One of my favorite dishes is the Black Noodles. It is a small restaurant, so you may need to call ahead to find out if there are any tables. If tables aren't available, order Pru Take Out! read more

I've been to Pru Thai twice now this week. First for dinner and today to enjoy the lunch special, a very reasonable deal with salad, rice, and main course for under $10. Currently cash only, as the other review states, while they get the kinks out of their cc processing system. Sat dinner service wasn't the speediest, but everyone was friendly and the space has a low-key vibe. Vegetable spring rolls ok, drunken noodles good but I've had better at other local Thai places (Ricky's Thai in Skillman, Savory Thai in Flemington). Today's Chicken Pad Basil, however, is really tasty and will become a staple for me. Terrific to finally have good Thai in Pennington!! read more

We had basil beef, massaman chicken curry, pad thai and sticky mango rice for take out. Wait was not long at all. Food was okay but very expensive for what it was. I felt the basil beef portion was really small and the beef was very tough. Curry was pretty good. And pad thai was ok as well. Not sure if I'll be a frequent visitor here just because it's expensive for small portions and just standard tasting food. read more

Quick note - the actual current menu prices are about 20% higher than those listed on the website, which appears not to have been updated since 2007. read more

We decided to give Pru Thai another try as I am pregnant and really really wanted crying tiger :) let me just say we were not disappointed! The place was packed but they still sat us right away which was nice. We got crying tiger and lard nar and both the portions were generous and the food was delicious. The steak in the crying tiger was flavorful and really tender and the sauce with it is so good. The lard nar had a mild, rich brown gravy and the chicken was cooked perfect. Really happy we went again. read more

First time at this new place. Very nice inside seating. Staff very friendly. Had lunch portion of beef thai basil which came with a brothy soup. It was ok. I will try another lunch to see if i get something really complimenting on. read more

Love thai food and I have been eating at Pru Thai for years. The food is great but I noticed recently that the portion sizes at lunch time have definitely decreased. The meals normally come with a soup or a salad but the main dishes are really small. I normally dine in and get the brown rice, shrimp and chicken Thai Basil. read more

Expensive and not as great as most, but let's face it they are the only game in town. Pad Thai should be 10 not 13. Will I eat here again? Probably. I love Thai, even over priced mediocre Thai. read more

I'm not sure if I'm spoiled with all the fantastic thai food in Chicago, but this restaurant is absolutely terrible in my book for a number of reasons. The service has been terrible, the food tastes like they poured sugar in everything and the prices are ridiculous. Part of the fun of thai food is that it is inexpensive! Anything over 10 dollars better be unbelievably good and this is just not. I know its the only thai place in Clinton and I'm only here a handful of times during the year, but I can't cosine this kind of robbery. read more

Decent. Tom Yum was not the best I have had. I think the owner/waitress can smile a little. Doesn't cost anything. Does it?

I too have been going to Pru Thai for years; in fact, I may have been their 1st guest. The times I've eaten Inside the restaurant have been 4 Star experiences. I Love ... No LOVE that they're BYOB, and closer than going to Somerville ( home of my fav NJ Thai) Service is great, and very friendly. Maybe it's unfair to zing them for this last meal, as it was take out and quite late -- 9pm ish -- but it was a 2 star meal at best. The duck was undercooked and fatty. The pad thai was nothing but gummy, pasty noodles. The calamari rings were cold, thick, and impossible to eat. One big Yuk !!! Now, I feel bad saying that. I do want to reiterate how good every sit down meal was, hence the average of 3 stars. My advice from my experience --- Use this as your sit down restaurant, and find someplace else to take out -- or find items that travel better, and you'll be a happy camper. It is a pretty good restaurant, especially for Clinton !!! read more

Having dined at many Thai restaurants, this one has to have the worst food and customer service. No curries?!!! Really?is this a Thai restaurant or Chinese food! No summer rolls. Portions of food are appetizer size. McDonalds would have been more fulfilling and cheaper read more

food is good almost like hell's kitchen good (but on the sweet side). but over priced! a dish in nyc would cost $7-9 is $13-15 at PRU. but it's the only good alternative around here. i miss nyc. but i was so happy to find this place. at least... we can get something locally. they totally get away with the pricing... there's nothing else good around here. we drive from long valley for a little thai treat.. when we don't cook it ourselves. 1,2,3 for spicy levels ... i've had both 3 and 2 and sometimes it's the same. so if you're normally medium spice get 1. 2/3 is hot and yes. portions are smaller. read more

Been twice for lunch Great service! Great food... Veggie spring rolls really good..... Pad See Ew very close to what I had in Thailand Masaman curry really good.... and if you have never had Mango Sticky Rice Try it... It's delicious!! I will definitely be back.. read more

I love love love this place. Favorite dishes are crying tiger, chicken Rama, drunken man noodles with shrimp, and roast duck with soy. The sauces are incredible. The staff is great. read more

Decent but not great. Love the drunken man noodles and spring rolls but not much else skip this place and drive the extra distance to one of the origin location. Their food blows this place away. read more

I discovered my love for thai food here- I just love this place. Unlike many other thai restaurants, the food is not greasy, which I appreciate. Everything I've ordered has been excellent. The curry puffs are definitely my fav, because the filling is not spicy. The spring rolls are great because they aren't greasy, which is usually the case with spring rolls. The tamarind duck and black noodles are my favorite entrees. I've also had the inferno chicken and a sweet and sour chicken (can't remember the name), but I loved those as well. As far as dessert goes, I've only had the coconut banana one, which I liked. It's really hard to have a favorite here because everything is excellent. read more

We have eaten at many Thai restaurants so we can do a fair comparison. Service was very good, main meal is OK - tasted bland compared to others, however their desserts were very good! If in the area we would go again. read more

There are area Thai restaurants that make Thai food that's almost as good as meals that I've had while visiting Thailand - this is NOT one of them. I'd recommend driving to Hackettstown or Chester, if you want to have a worthwhile experience. read more

Gave this place another try and was even more disappointed. I love spicy food and I have been to quiet a few different Thai restaurants. This place was the worst I've ever been to. The customer service was poor, they were actually drinking away and socializing before tending to patrons. It must have been like 7 people behind the counter and all of them were on their phones discussing issues that weren't related to taking anyone's order. We waited about 30 mins before someone actually took our order. Now, to keep in mind that besides us there was only one other table occupied. The food was terrible, extremely spicy. It almost felt like they didn't measure the ingredients and toss half of a bottle of everything in while continuing to drink wine and being on the phone. Not coming back for sure. read more

If your frame of reference is Clinton NJ and surrounds then this is one of the best restaurants in the area. As a Thai Restaurant, it is one of the best in Clinton but if you compare it to other Thai restaurants, you might do better if you travel out of the area. One of the few Asian restaurants in the area and much welcomed. All of the food is good here and the friendly Asian girls provide good service. Curries are my favorites. Ingredients are mostly fresh and preparation is well done. read more

It says not good for kids, bah humbug, my son loves this place. Never disappointed here, one of my favorite places to eat; hands down a 'go-to' spot and I'm always satisfied. YUMMY. My Aunt declared that the Duck Tamarind was the best that she's ever had. Some of my faves include the curry puff appetizer, Rocket Shrimp, Pad Preow Wan and the Mock Duck. Always a good meal. Make Reservations !! The one thing that we've found here, as we return again and again, is that there seems to be a decline in quality the busier that they get. Watch out Pru Thai or you'll begin to lose fans !! read more

The appy's here always seem to be the best thing on the menu. The curries are always a bit "bland" for my taste, however the duck has never let me down, albeit always need to add a bit more spice to it. The service is always good - make a reservation, always packed. read more

A friendly staff, comfortable atmosphere and great food keep us coming back to Pru Thai in beautiful Clinton, NJ. The Pla Basil (whole fish) is a consistent favorite as is the Moo Panang (pork loin slices with panang curry). One of the co-owners is an accomplished pastry chef, so save room for delicious and creative desserts. Their mango sticky rice is addictive! read more

This Thai food is amazing. I do feel that they are cheap with portions, especially rice. However I have not been able to find a place that compares. The crying tiger is amazing!! The green curry chicken and tom kha is great also. I've turned many people onto this. I drive 30 min each way just to have this food. I just wish that I felt they appreciated my patronage here. They seem to me like the soup nazi from Seinfeld read more

Uninspiring decor and sluggish service made for a meh outing. The food was fine, nothing exceptional, but the experience would have been so much better if the staff didn't have an air of being inconvenienced by the room full of paying customers. They weren't that busy and certainly didn't seem overworked. Servers were often seen loitering over by the kitchen entrance. During the drawn-out wait between soup and entree, I even thought about just walking out and going someplace where the staff would be happy to see us and we'd be well taken care of. read more

Love this place as a rule but wasn't so thrilled last night... Be careful if you're on a restricted diet! I'm a pescatarian, meaning I eat fish, eggs and dairy but no meat or poultry. I ordered a shrimp appetizer, described as shrimp dipped in batter and fried. Took one bite - oh there's pork in there too! WHY would they not offer that info on the menu? And I've had it plenty of times before, always no pork. And not even an apology from the staff? I didn't make a big deal of it but still... Thats not right. read more

In the past we've had mixed experiences here. More recently we have been pleased that they have been consistently very good. Food seems fresher and more flavorful. We'll be back more often as a result. read more

Pru Thai is the best Thai restaurant West of the Hudson River. My family and I have eaten there at least 30 times over the past 5-6 years. Amongst all of us, we have tried virtually all the dishes on the menu. We have never been disappointed. The feature that really distinguishes Pru Thai is the technical skill in the kitchen. For example, anything with squid was flash heated and tender...usually squid is overcooked and has the consistency of a pencil eraser. The displays of the deep fried fish are breathtaking Of special mention is the efficient, friendly and knowledgeable waitstaff Special favorites are the definitive Pad Thai, fried rice, beef and fish dishes and any noodle dish. The deep fried bananas wrapped in won ton wrappers, and the Tom yum soup read more

Food is always yummy and fresh. During the week is much less crowded and pleasant for the smaller space.

DO NOT BELIEVE THE BAD REVIEWS!!! Best Thai food I have ever had! Staff is pleasant and friendly, great service! Been here a bunch of times. Kanom Jeeb (Chicken Dumplings) are just amazing, I get them every time I go. Pad cashew nut with beef is awesome. Any beef here is so tender. Crying tiger is great too. Thai salad, rocket shrimp are great apps. A must see in Clinton! read more

The food is not bad. I had calamari as a starter and the batter tasted good, but it was thick. The green curry was more than spicy enough for me. Price is on the high side compared to other places. read more

Very disappointing. I had the lunch special: pad thai and salad. I don't care is pad thai is "authentic," I just care if it tastes good. Both the salad dressing and the pad thai were sweet like candy. It was gross. The waiter checked on me and I told him that it's way too sweet. He shrugged and walked away. read more

Just the other day my wife and I had a late lunch. We found this restaurant through Yelp because we were in town on some business and we wanted to have Thai food. We had some ginger tea to drink, however, you could not tell it was ginger flavored, more like Hot Water. Our appetizers, curry puff and pork tom yum. The Tom Yum was a bit sour and not much flavor. The curry puff was a bit bland, could have had some more flavor. Drunken noodles with chicken was my meal and my wife had Ginger with pork at level 3 spicy. The drunken noodles were just ok, not a lot of flavor, the dish was supposed to be spicy however it had no hint of spice at all. Thai food is all about the combination of flavors in the food, sweet, sour and spicy. My meal really didn't have any of these. My wife's dish came out with an acceptable flavor. She enjoys a meal with lots of spice and maybe because they noticed my wife is Thai... They might have poured on extra spice. The decorations in the restaurant look cheap and the service does not impress us at all ... To visit this place again ... will never be in our plans. read more
