After refusing to produce an itemized receipt when paying in cash TWICE AS MUCH as the phone estimate, as well as the ~20 pieces of paper they had me sign when they arrived, the foreman told me to call the office Monday for a fax of this paperwork. I confirmed with the manager on the phone this would not be a problem, AND THAT'S WHERE THIS TERRIBLE STORY BEGINS!!! On November 14 I completed a quote request on Mving-cm. After research I chose Provident Moving, LLC; DBA Provident Moving & Storage (License: Intrastate 39PM00106200). Note: I am a victim of Hurricane Sandy & I was careful to review all mover reviews & diligent to compare rates & additional fees that may be incurred to avoid possible price gouging. I was quoted $75/hour by "Danielle" w/additional fees including $4/blanket. 4 hour min. I asked MANY times if there were any additional fees - she assured me NO. Having moved 2X within the past 2 years & being displaced from the Hurricane & knowing I was only bringing the bare minimum I knew this move wouldn't take more than 4 hours (I was right). I re-confirmed w/ Danielle there were no additional fees. She said she would email a confirmation. I wanted to settle everything on phone as I had only intermittent access to Internet due to storm, she said OK. Danielle called me the day before the move to confirm. She also called the morning of the move to ask if it was OK that the movers show up 30 mins early. OK. She said there was an excellent foreman named "Anthony" assigned to the job who would guide me through my move. - Movers showed up they came in a Provident Moving & Storage moving van. - At Anthony's request we reviewed a huge packet of paperwork that needed to be signed in many places. The paperwork was Provident Moving paperwork. He told me that I would be told the price of the job at the destination & I would need to pay in cash before my belongings were unpacked. I agreed. - I confirmed the rate of $75/hour, 4 hour min, $4/blanket. Anthony advised of additional packing materials that would be needed, a lot of them. He also said I needed to pay for 1 hour of drive time. - I asked him what he thought the job would cost, he said he could provide an estimate now that he sees what has to go, which is a 1 BR apartment... $900-$1000. SHOCKED. I immediately called the Provident Moving office. Danielle was gone but I spoke to a "John" who identified himself as a manager. John, along w/ Anthony, explained to me that I would need a huge amount of packing materials that there are fees for. Boxes, tape, cellophane, custom boxes they would need to shape around objects. That this was more of a "white glove move." I was told nothing about tape, boxes, cellophane, & definitely nothing about drive time. Again, I was very clear w/ Danielle that I needed to know all this ahead of time. And I felt I packed well. By the time I was done signing excessive paperwork the other 2 laborers were 30 minutes into the move. There was no sending them away as so many of my belongings were in the truck. I had to pay before they unloaded. Suddenly the process was informal. - Anthony scribbled the moving materials on a blank piece of paper, quantity & price per unit, & totaled each item separately. No itemized PO. - He verbally presented me a grand total of $900. He said this was a great deal John was cutting me because this is actually inclusive of the 20% tip I have to pay. Another fee that was not told to me. - The move indeed took 4 hours. - I asked for an itemized receipt. I was denied by Anthony & told to call the office. - I asked for a receipt on Provident Moving letterhead. I was denied. - I asked for copies of all my paperwork & contracts I signed. I was denied. ANTHONY TOLD ME CLEARLY I WOULD NEED TO CALL THE OFFICE FOR THIS PAPERWORK. IN FACT, I NEEDED TO CALL JOHN AFTER THE MEN LEFT BECAUSE I COULDN'T FIND CUSHIONS FOR A CHAIR & I TOLD HIM I'D HAVE TO CALL HIM MONDAY FOR COPIES OF CONTRACTS & ITEMIZED RECEIPTS. JOHN SAID OK - EVERYTHING WAS LEFT OFF WELL W/ THANK YOU'S & PLEASANTRIES. So on Monday I contacted the office & spoke w/ Danielle, I carefully explained what I would need & requested the information be faxed to me. DANIELLE RUDELY AGREED TO COMPILE IT & FAX IT. NEVER RECEIVED. I called back to follow-up & emailed to follow-up, I called back again the next day. After being hung up on, yelled at, forced to hold & denied access to a manager... *** I was told PROVIDENT MOVING DID NOT PERFORM MY MOVE! THAT ANTHONY'S COMPANY DID. ANTHONY THE FOREMAN. ANTHONY HAD THE PAPERWORK & SHE DID NOT HAVE ANTHONY'S NUMBER. SHE ALSO DID NOT KNOW THE NAME OF ANTHONY'S COMPANY. First, the quote they gave me was about $350 for 3 hrs (2 hrs labor and 1 hr travel). Didn't realize that they charged for travel, but seems like everyone did it. Then I get a call from Danielle, and I didn't understand why she called me 2 days before my move date and tell me they had to change the date and time when I made the appointment ~2-3 weeks prior. Then when I asked for the manager, who the lady Danielle had no idea what to say, so she gave me the owner who himself was pretty rude response demanding that he was changing the time. I'm like hold up. Your person called me, telling me that I was getting my date and time changed, and since they gave me the confirmation with quote via email, they were contractually bound, so I told them they will break the contract, they will need to compensate me for the change either with a discount. Then the owner just gave me back my original time and date. So I was in a WTF mode and like why did you just waste my time? So was not confident with the company. But the day came and the moving company came about 15 minutes late. But when it was time for the move things went pretty smoothly. It was a foreman, and 2 short latinos who seemed to have the strength of Thor because I was shocked at how much they could lift. But overall, they did a good job. I didn't tip the foreman, but tipped the 2 latinos $50 each cause they did all the work. Those guys were awesome! Then when they arrived at the new place, we went to settle the bill and the bill was $750. I was like whoa... how did it jump $400? Apparently, they charged for tape, the use of blankets, and they used cardboard boxes ($50 each) to tape of the glass coffee table. I was like wtf... I should've just moved the glass stuff myself, but i was like wtf... Either way, that's what the terms and agreement stipulated, and I signed the term so it is what it is. But I rather tell everyone the details so that everyone knows what they're getting themselves into. Oh! The funny part... they took the deposit via credit card, but when it was time to pay, CASH ONLY.... Something didn't seem right, but they better be paying tax for this because if not, then the IRS folks reading this site will be sure to start to audit... I have never written a review before but felt the need to write one now due to my experience with this company. I suspect that everyone who has used this company has felt the same way, given the lack of "recommended reviews" but plethora of other negative reviews which entirely back up everything I am about to say. I hope this makes it on to the Recommended Reviews section so that mine can serve as a warning. So if it does-everyone-read this and then go read the other reviews. Then believe it and run for the hills!!! Here's why: Days before the move, this company was given explicit instructions on addresses and times and specific instructions relating to the addresses and what to pick up. Phone calls were made to confirm receipt of the email. They got it. We were told certain instructions in the email would incur additional costs. We were ok with that, told them. But still-they were late. Really late. Hours late. Per the email, the move was supposed to start at 10:30 am. They got to the first location, a storage facility (that needed to be prearranged and elevators blocked off) at 2:30. Our residence at 3:45. (They were supposed to be there at 12:00 noon) Didn't follow the instructions on the email even though they did print it out, delete the time stamp and other instructions they seemingly didn't like and give it the guys on the truck and call it a day. Apparently they though our move should go a different way. And start later. When a phone call was made to the manager or owner or whatever his undeserved title is, John...well, that is when thing got interesting. Instead of apologizing or admitting to his mistake (for which there was proof was made), or even simply trying to end the confrontation by, I don't know, taking off one of their erroneous charges (elevator fee??? Excuse me, it's an inconvenience that you feel you need to be compensated for to use the services of an elevator to lift really heavy things???) he argued. For hours. On the phone. When we should have been supervising our move, we were on the phone arguing. When we should have been packing our kitchen and bathroom, we were arguing.When we should have been keeping our eye on the foreman who disappeared for a half an hour, we were arguing. By this time we were done arguing and found the movers it was late. Too late to keep using the elevator in our building (that's ok though guys, you can use the stairs right!?!?) and much too late to go to the bank. Too bad though for us, says John. He needs $1750 cash and needs it now, before unloading the truck. He will take our stuff and put it in storage without it. Too bad for us that ATMs do not have an overpriced move option and don't let you take that much out. Too bad they can't take a check like a normal, well run business. The Forman, who had been ok up until this point, decided to then be obnoxious. I understand it's not really his fault. He probably wanted to go home as much as we did. But to get in our faces and say "there are two problems in this world, mine and not mine", well, I'm not sure I'm ok with that. I suppose I can't blame him though, it's not his fault he picked a horrible company to work for. When threatened with the cops (which looking at these reviews I see I am not the only one with this idea!) they seemed to back down just enough to turn off their truck, which was running as though they were about to drive away. Finally after even more arguing, we scrounged up enough cash and paid them and they moved our stuff fine. We asked them to move a bunch of boxes up stairs for us too and they didn't but that's probably because the entire day was the worst ever and they were not done until 10:30 pm and by then they really wanted to go home. Which, honestly, is fine. I can't afford my gym membership anymore anyway, as this company has effectively taken all of my money, so I could use the workout. I called John one last time last night to inform him I will be complaining to the Better Business Bureau. I didn't give him a chance to respond. I am writing this review now at 7 am because John, apparently wanting to argue some more, felt the need to call my cell phone to wake me up this morning. So not only will they make your move a horror story and keep you up late at night unpacking because they were LATE LATE LATE, they will give you a wake up call in the morning!!! In summation...they don't deserve a star. They deserve a negative star. They deserve to never get a new customer again. They deserve to be out of business. They are con artists. They are scum. The worst company I have ever dealt with. That is no exaggeration. They are liars and thieves. When a company gives you a 2 hour window of their arrival, you shouldn't have to call them to find out their ETA. Of course, they'll then tell you the old "broken down truck" lie because they probably overbooked the day. After that it was lie after lie, excuse after excuse, and at no point do they attempt to make amends. In a nutshell, my move was supposed to be done at 1pm. I haven't moved very much and was hoping for a hassle free move. I went with this company because they seemed fairly honest and gave a good rate. I haven't had experience with moving so wasn't aware of any tricks that moving companies try to pull. The movers over all were okay. They were nice and got the job done, however, there was a lot of sitting around and complaining while they were charging us by the hour. What should have been a 4 hour job took close to 9 hours! The worst part was that they charged us $35 for ever blanket they put on our furniture, which added up to more than the hourly rate! We were blindsided in having to pay more than $900 for moving supplies for a 2 bedroom apartment. We basically had no choice but to pay it but I was very disappointed in this company's honesty. They had to get all the way down to Manchester NJ on a busy beach day and bring some stuff back up to Fort Lee for me and did it in no time. Provident moving has the worst management staff ever! I would never recommend their services to anyone. We moved recently and used them since they had quoted comparable price for moving. So, day 1 - when we spoke with their management - John gave us the estimate based on our inventory and did not mention anything about "extra" charge for fumigated blankets - which they charged $4.00 per blanket ( our total cost for just the blankets came close to $100!!), he also mentioned that the bubble wrap would be "just" $1.00 ( which in reality was $1.00/ sqft). The estimate which was given to us was $350 less than what we actually ended up paying at the end. They did tell us that all packaging would be extra - to which we confirmed that if we pack everything by ourselves - that would be eliminated. Of course not! They had all hidden packing charges - this is when we used industrial wrapping, bubble wrapping, card board wrapping on every freaking thing! But then it was not packed per "their standards" - which they never ever specified to us - EVER!! On the day of the move - when the movers actually gave us an estimate which was way higher than what was quoted - we spoke with their management staff - John who was extremely rude and did not help us with a thing! We had booked the morning slot between 8-9am and the movers came in at 4:30 pm. This of course wasted our entire day! Each time we called them they gave us lame excuses of weather being bad, traffic jam - without giving us any concrete time as to when the movers will actually show up. And the management did not even bother to notify us about the delay! We only used them - since we had no other option and had to empty our apartment that day. And they knew it would be next to impossible to find someone last minute! The movers were however very quick and nice people. Very dishonest Your bill, it won't be anywhere near the estimate. they are the worst movers and we have moved a lot with my husbands work. they gave us estimate of $1175 before I sold some of my stuff including full patio set, push mower and riding mower plus more, and after loading truck charge us more then the double the money. It went from$1175 to $2600 but they wanted $2875 cash. I over heard the salesman John on the phone with the moving supervisor telling him to charge me 15hrs labor even though they hadn't even been moving me for 10 hrs. He quoted 7 hrs (how funny is that). When I asked him how it ended up taking almost double the time he said I must have had more stuff then he seen. Which I didn't, I had less because I had a moving sale. I told them all I had was $2600 and couldn't pay a dime more. They excepted it, I signed the paper and noticed it said $2300. Guess the rest is a tip. They put my BluRay, safe, air purifier and house decode in the same box. Did take care in moving my electronics. Broke two lamps, bed rails bent and dropped a suitcase off which isn't even mine. I called john and told him I had the suitcase and now it's been a week and it's still here. I have text and told him my issues and he didn't bother to call said he would call Monday and speak to my husband and I. Unnecessarily they disassembled every furniture and wrap it with blanket and cardboard. I forgot to mention I had packed most of my own stuff. They had a few dishes and large pictures and large furniture. Everything else I did. So tell me how it cost more then double. I really would like to spare others an awful experience. Provident Movers did not turn up the day they were due, so I had to take another day off work. When they arrived the next day, they loaded my stuff, then when we got to the new place they informed me that they would not be unloading anything until I paid them an amount in cash 70% above their quote. They'd taken my credit card details to secure the booking, yet insisted on cash. They also threatened me that there would be consequences if I attempted to post any complaints on review forums. They negotiated a bit (at this point I just wanted them out of my apartment) but only after I signed a 'promise' that I was satisfied with their service. These are con artists and I would never recommend them to my worse enemy. I thought I made the right decision to go with Provident after looking at reviews online, but didn't realize they were fake reviews probably posted by the company to lure unsuspecting people. I give them credit for not damaging any of our stuff, which is expected of movers, but that get's washed away once they hand you a huge bill at least 3 times the amount they originally quoted. They have ways to hike up your bill even after you've agreed on a quote. They threaten to not unload your stuff unless they get paid in cash. I moved a couple of days after Sandy and had to drive for miles to find a working ATM to withdraw the extra cash they were demanding. These guys need to be sued by all their customers!! read more

DON'T USE THEM!!!! They gave me a low estimate based on 3 guys and 1 truck for 4 hours. When the truck arrived it was 1/4 full of unused packing material (I understand wanting to be prepared for the unknown but this was ridiculous) so they would have to make two trips (and take more time). The loaders began to unwrap furniture that I had already wrapped with my own moving blankets so they could charge me for using their blankets, complained that I didn't have any breakfast for them, THEN tried to charge me almost triple the estimate saying the cost was based on number of items not number of hours as detailed in the estimate I'd been emailed. After making them unload the almost full truck, the lead mover then threatened to take a dump in my toilet tank because he said I am a bad person. read more

We hired Provident Moving this past summer, to move our entire bi-level home into a storage unit. Our good friends used them and had NO problems with them. I was extremely skeptical about using them, after reading all the negative reviews online and even tried looking elsewhere to hire movers. To think i left it all to them to move my entire house... scary thought after the reviews. BUT I can HONESTLY say that they were WONDERFUL to work with. I had no problems what-so-ever. They came on time, were professional the whole time, wrapped up all our furniture, was so efficient in packing up one truck load of our WHOLE house... 2 floors, 5 bedrooms, living room, etc ...and then repacked them into a storage unit. The quote they gave me was what we paid. Danielle, was wonderful to work with. She assured me they would do a good job, and they did. We will definitely use them again when we move into our new home. Provided an estimate via email, then when arrive for the move, informed us that each piece of furniture would cost $15 to wrap or $4 to use blanket, there were also other various material charges on their list. So for example, our bed with the frame, box spring and mattress would of cost us $45. Needless to say, we conducted most of the move ourselves and it still cost us over the estimate for an hour's worth of work. It should also be noted after becoming aware of these charges the day of the move, I spoke to the "owner" over the phone and the quote I received was "do you want us to cancel the job right now?" When you only have one day to move, he obviously knew we were forced to use their "services". This company is solely out to take advantage of unsuspecting people!! read more

I used this company end of May 2013. The quote I was given was nowhere near what I ended up paying. The receptionist lied about what we spoke about like what floor the apartment was located on and if an elevator was available. I gave an inventory of what was being moved which should have been factored into the price but wasn't and then they claimed additional charges due to padding furniture as well as other materials used. The actual movers were careful and quick but are trained to hide the charges that will later be charged or lack integrity as well. I would never use this company again and would strongly not recommend this company to others. I have been extremely busy but have been meaning to post this review to help others avoid being lied to. It is a black mailing company, avoid it. The whole story is like this. Before we decided to hire them, we contacted John, the business owner and told him what we have that need them to pack (bed, tv, coffee table, etc, less than ten items) and the exact location we are moving. They give us the estimation of total price they are going to charge. We think it is reasonable back then so we decided to hire them. While there is not much room for them to play trick in the time-labor money, BUT, the estimation of the packing materials goes way higher than their estimation, like five times higher! It is even more than the labor service itself! For those several rolls of tapes they charge us $105! And for several reusable blanks they use to cover table top (they reused many times before (so they are definitely not clean at all) and will reuse them again after us), they charge us $100. Not mention that they then charge us another $150 the so-called "long Carry", which is a fee they charge because we move to higher floor (remember we told them ahead of time where we need to move exactly, and they said we did not!). And, they told you the price at a very good time,it is when you put all your stuff on their truck. You don't have any leverage to bargain because all your stuffs are on their truck and if you don't pay cash in advance they say they will just drive all your stuff back to their company... They seems pretty proficient about this black-mailing skill and have done this many times before. When we rised our concern about the big difference in the price, they gave us an example of one of their old customer, the original estimation they gave her is $2000, and eventually they charged her $8000! Be warned - Provident moving charged us more than twice the quoted rate at double the time. Mid-move, we were told by the owner that we were on schedule only to have our move go over on time by double. The movers seemed to slow in the afternoon hours to a snails pace. They didn't even move all of our belongings as promised, forcing us to return days later to complete the move ourselves. When we arrived at our new house, the movers would not take our belongings off the truck without being paid the full cash balance, again, at twice the quoted estimate. The movers didn't arrive at our new house until 1am, whereupon our new neighbors called the police for all the noise they made unloading their truck. They also took out our phone and cable line backing down the drive way. When we complained, the owner promised us a partial (and very minor refund) after numerous calls and texts. He never followed through. I'd characterize Provident Moving as the most polite scam artists I've ever met. Look elsewhere for movers please. Do not use this company unless you are prepared to be ripped off!!! I don't usually write reviews but I feel strongly about the experience I had with them. I used Provident in December 2012 and had good customer service (Danielle and Cassandra) during the quote and booking process. I asked a ton of questions as I had been warned about "extra" charges that movers try to rip you off with at the very last minute when they are about to unload your belongings. I was pretty clear about all the costs. I have no problem in paying what's owed in full,as long as they are clear and up front about it so I can plan accordingly. The quote I had was for $320 but I ended up paying almost $750. When I asked for a quote, they included an elevator fee. Now, I'm not sure why Provident would be charging me to use an elevator in my old and new places when neither building management did. The person couldn't really explain why but when I pressed her for the rationale, she said she'd waive it. Now, if you use Provident, beware that you have to ask for the FEES (emphasis on plural) otherwise they just mean the fee for one elevator which I found out the hard way. Even with a written quote saying the elevator fee was waived, they were trying to charge me 2 fees on moving day just as they were about to unload the truck. My husband argued with them and they reversed one fee but they wouldn't budge on the other one and reduced it to $95. They claimed that they didn't tell me about both fees because Provident had no way to know that there would be elevators at both locations and it was up to me to tell them. The move itself went fine- the crew showed up on time and handled our belongings carefully and not one item was broken or damaged I have to say. The leader showed up and took a look around then went downstairs for about 40-45 min- probably talking to the management office on how to jack up the bill. I think they are trained to try to at least double what is on the quote by charging an exorbitant amount for materials if you have to buy them from the movers. For example, a mattress cover should cost about $10 at Home Depot but they charge something like $25 or $30 for plastic covers. The rate they charge for tape to tape up the furniture pads is also a total rip off but they're trying to make up their revenue somehow. If you use Provident, do not purchase the materials or boxes from them if you can help it. Again, they seem to be trained to find extra things that they can charge you for but I think a lot of moving companies do this. When we got to the new place, the supervisor only then decided to show us the bill that we would have to pay in cash if we wanted them to unload the truck. He had added 2 elevator fees. He was very sneaky not to mention anything about this at the old place as he knew there would be an issue. He pulled a face and was rude when we took it out of his tip. I felt bad because the team worked hard but the company should understand that their underhandedness gets their customers very upset. At the end of the day, I overpaid by $95 for the second elevator fee which is not going to break the bank but it was charged in bad faith. When I finally got hold of the manager (John, I think) and asked for a refund, I was denied. I told him I didn't think it made sense to lose business and get negative reviews over $95 he threatened that if I did post something on line, they would send their lawyer after me. Do not use this company. They required a credit card number to make a reservation and at payment time, but then claimed to not have the ability to run the card to cover the move. Instead, on the day of the move, they demanded cash or guaranteed funds, or else they were just going to hold my stuff hostage on their truck. Their estimates are totally meaningless. The final amount demanded was nearly three times the estimate I received. After forcing us to purchase their packing materials at exorbitant costs ($18 for a single corrugated box!-and they refused to work until we had purchased 10 of their boxes - and by the time they showed up - an hour later than they had promised, it was too late to try to get someone else to move us) the day of our move, they still managed to destroy a large ceramic planter, but when they placed it in our apartment, they surrounded it with boxes and concealed the broken side of it so we wouldn't notice it was broken until after they had left. STAY AWAY! I wish I could somehow give them lower than 1 star but I am unable. To preface this review I have moved 4 times locally in the NY/NJ area in the past 7 years. I understand there will always be fictitious "extras" that are added to the total of any quote you are given. In my mind if it adds another 10-15% I just kind of live with it as part of the industry. With that being said I was moving a 1 BR apt from Brooklyn to Brooklyn (7 miles away). I was quoted a minimum of 4 hrs at $85/hr plus supplies. I asked the girl on the phone if she could ball park a number for me just so I wouldn't be caught too off guard. She said a 1 BR should be about $150-200 in supplies but could vary depending on how well I packed before. With that quote given I assumed there would be an extra $200 of something on top of that and I was looking at about $800 for the move. As the movers arrived 2 and a half hours late coming from a job in NJ (great planning by dispatch) I again asked the manager among the 3 what he thought supplies would be based on how things looked. He said between $150-180 but couldn't guarantee me anything. After everything was packed up in their truck they give me a bill for over $1,200. I obviously tried having an educated conversation with this guy but that was impossible. I said there was no way I was paying that and he looked at me smugly as they were in possession of all of my goods minus my car and they weren't going to turn it over until I paid the amount in full. Acting like he was doing me a favor he ended up knocking off about $40 off the supply charge which ended up being over $450. AWFUL DON"T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!!! We just moved over the weekend, just 1 town over from where we were living. I already had a bad feeling when the company changed the move date 2x after having confirmed it with my husband. In addition to that, one the owners (who by the way is EXTREMELY OBNOXIOUS telling me he takes very good notes because he's a LAW student) Lord, help the Judicial system!!! Anyway, he came to give us an estimate based on our belongings. We thought the estimate was fair, so we signed the contract. When moving day came, he sent 2 trucks which were in NO WAY going to fit ALL of our things. After 3 or 4 hours of loading his guys say "TRUCKS ARE FULL"....so they leave to our new home while leaving a TON of stuff behind. My husband is not the aggressive type to ask what about the rest of our things. So, he & my other family members spent the entire next day moving our other things for HOURS!! I called the company & spoke to the OBNOXIOUS OWNER & his explanation was we had a FLAT RATE & not everything was included. I'm sorry, I didn't realize when you move it's assumed NOT EVERYTHING is going. He assured me several times that he has an "excellent memory" & takes "excellent notes" cause he's a Law student! I then told him his guys left a TON of garbage all over my new driveway & lastly the icing on the cake was they helped themselves to my refrigerator & devoured ALL my kid's drinks as well as cases of seltzer! I may also add my husband ordered LUNCH & had COLD WATER the entire day for them! The owner had the nerve to ask how much we TIPPED them?? UNREAL...I don't have to TIP anything...We gave them 25.00 each in addition to the food & drinks! Provident moving just moved me, allow me to share my mistakes so you won't make the same. Mistakes: 1) They didn't come out to house to see what I had to be moved. All of my conversations were on the phone. (Danielle comes across as sweet, innocent, and wanting to help...beware! 2) She quoted a price of $400 after numerous phone conversations with her (that's just the starting amount) and when the move was over the total amount was $900 plus. (Beware of hidden fees) She never asked whether I was moving to a first or second floor? It is her job to ask these questions. I didn't know it made a difference...wrong ($150 additional fee), moved within the same city 3.93 miles an add'tl transportation charge ($50 additional fee). 3) If you have valuable furniture that needs TLC this isn't the company for you. 4) Make sure you count # of blankets used, tapes...additional fees. read more

This is the worst moving company ever. DO NOT HIRE THEM unless you plan to spend $1200 for moving from a one bedroom apartment to another in the same neighborhood. In addition to this, they also charge a $150 fee for moving from an elevator building to another elevator building. The movers stole our properties despite they admitted that they had our stuff. However, they never return it. The movers also wrecked our closet. Even we filed a complain against them, the manager did not do anything to resolve our problems. Highly recommended ---- The provident movers have been outstanding all through the move. At eleventh hour, I asked them to collect some items from another location. The provident folks did the job with very courteous manner and didn't increase the cost for extra service they gave me. My all family members have been happy having provident as our mover. The way their workers diligently gave labor for the move, it showed nothing but their efficiency. In order to identify every item, they nicely labeled and tagged all boxes. I used Provident Movers to pack/move my 1 bedroom condo . I've used movers in the past so I had an idea of what to expect. I was not willing to use any company unless an on-site estimate was given. A rep from Provident came and assessed my home..Seemed to be very pleasant. Even had the nerve to tell me about certain moving companies and how they would scam you.. I thought to myself he seemed to be a stand up guy. (If I only knew what I know now). He gave me a price in which I agreed to ($900.00), which supposedly included everything. He had me sign the contract and the movers came that upcoming Friday. On the day of the move they arrived 45 minutes late but he had a flat tire. (I understood) The move began and the driver called in his crew which I don't think he even knew all only one because he kept asking on of the movers what their name was..About 3 hours into the move I notice they packed food (canned goods) with paper work. I figured shame on me because I should of at least packed important paper. Then I notice he took my hamper with a few articles inside and dumped it into a box filled with clean clothes that's when I said something to the driver. He apologized and everything seemed to be ok. I went as far as getting them lunch because I felt that they just worked 5 hours and must be hungry. The movers ate before heading out to my new place and upon arrival the driver gave me a bill of $2,700. The look on my face must of been priceless! I said there must be a mistake I have an agreement for $900.00. He asked to see the contract and that's when the driver said oh no this is a NON BINDING ESTIMATE. I contacted the office to speak with the gentleman who did the estimate who was no where to be found (go figure). For some reason no one could help me. The driver stated if it wasn't paid in full he would have to take my belongings back to storage?? So basically he is holding my belongings for ransom!! I immediately called the cops. When the cops arrived I explained the situation and he understood but based on the contract (fine print) this is a non binding estimate prices may change upon move. (By 100%) To make a long story short I ended up paying the entire move, got robbed...Found a lot of damages to my belongings and busted open containers mixed in with my paperwork. Do not ! I repeat do not use this company! You will be charged twice as much if not more! We moved more boxes than they did to help speed along the process. Our bill was to be 300 .00 dollars for a small amount of items going 20 miles and ended up being twice as much. The head worker was rude and took frequent cigarette breaks. He even went as far as locking the truck at our new location refusing to take the items out unless we paid what he was asking. After finally reaching the "boss" by phone he allowed our items to be unloaded but we had to carry them in because there were a few stairs and they wanted an additional 150.00 to do that! Many hidden charges example: if your hallway is more than 25 feet long it's an additional 75 dollars, stairs- 150 dollars. Moving blankets: 4 dollars each. Shrink wrap: which is really just a bunch of tape: 15 dollars. This will not be in your contract so ask many questions, which I thought we had and make sure they are in your contract! The final note was the head guy cursing out my daughter. It was a horrible. Horrible experience! Provident movers had made my move a nightmare. They triple charged me what they quoted me. They charge you $5.00 for each of THEIR blankets they use to wrap your stuff!!! The damage done to my stuff and home is unreal. How they are still in business is beyond belief. I moved in a month ago and am still noticing damages done to my items. They lost stuff and blamed me and then found it weeks later. My daughters bed had a huge chip on foot board which they "tried" to fix but still visible. They broke the top posts of my bed and then glued them back on. My hardwood floors were scratched from them dragging the furniture on the floor. My daughters trundles is falling apart and missing pieces. Husbands desk was never put back together correctly and "John the Owner" stated cause is was poor quality!! The list goes on and on. They came back 3 weeks after complaining to repair the damage and put things in the correct rooms and wanted to charge us an additional $89 an hour to fix their errors. Their workers are not qualified to move and are young kids who shouldn't be moving expensive furniture. John the owner is a liar!! They made an experience that is supposed to be good a complete nightmare!! Their claim that they have insurance is worthless cause they will not replace your damaged furniture but do a shitty patch job themselves to resolve the issue and charge you for their time doing it!!! The team that moved me was amazing. Really nice guys, quick and efficient. The thing that really turned me off was they quoted me an hourly rate of $75 per hour and then said they had an option which was "all inclusive" meaning I didn't have to lift a finger for $135 per hour. They said the estimate was $815 for a 1 br apartment. The bill came out to $1468 almost double their estimate. Apparently "all INCLUSIVE" does not INCLUDE packaging materials most of which they kept like the blankets. Then they overcharged for boxes. Their boxes must be lined with gold or some other precious metal ! They make you sign all sorts of paper work to cover themselves because this discrepancy must happen all the time. However, I feel this is a misleading way to do business. Everyone was kind, even the sales lady who first answered my phone call, but the mismatching of quote vs. actual cost is a big turnoff. read more

I was quoted $308; at the time the estimate was given to me, I asked if there were any additional charges and was told any packing material needed would be additional. Be prepared to pay $4 per roll of tape and $5 per blanket - the movers will use 30 rolls of tape and 30 blankets. To move a small one bedroom apt (sofa, tv stand, headboard, bed frame, mattress, dresser). They also charge $75 to crate a TV. The movers were very unprofessional - two were sent - not dressed in uniform, one did not speak English which would be fine if I spoke his language but not the case. I ended up having them leave most of my stuff because I did not want to pay for 30 more blankets and rolls of tape. Also, be careful, the mover tried to charge me for 5 hours - when he asked to collect payment after only 3 hours of moving I asked why he charged me for 5 (instead of the 4 hour min) and he had no explanation. He also said he was supposed to charge me for moving to a 2nd floor, however, this information was given when my estimate was given and the rep did not say anything about an add'l charge nor was it listed in my emailed estimate. Also, when the two movers sent could not get my sofa into the doorway of my new apt and I suggested they remove the door, they told me they do not remove doors. What kind of movers do not remove doors from hinges in order to get furniture in? I'm sorry, did I not hire you and am I not paying you to move my furniture? While the emailed estimate did noted "packing materials additional charge" the prices were not listed - nor was there a disclaimer that stated they would not move anything if it wasn't covered in a blanket. Shady movers. I would not recommend you use their services. The owner will tell you all the things you want to hear and on your move day you will find out the hard way that it was not true. First, I was under the impression that the estimate they give you would be realistic. Halfway through the move they told me it would cost DOUBLE to $1600 CASH. Second, they claim they fumigate their blankets and trucks to prevent bed bugs and the blankets would be sealed in plastic- they were NOT. The foreman (who was supposed to be actually moving our items) was folding the blankets and taping them together for their next victims in the middle of our move. They added on fees for diesel surcharge, taxes, tolls, long carry, packing materials, etc etc etc. In the end we told them to just unload our stuff off of their truck and we had to re-assemble everything ourselves (many things they reassembled unnecessarily to waste materials, time/labor to increase costs). I had to chase them outside and beg them to bring our mattress upstairs because they just left it in the foyer. Overall a horrible, stressful unprofessional experience. Look elsewhere for more reputable movers. They will refuse to unload your items off their truck if you don't give them money before they finish the job. They claim they take credit card but system happens to be down- unless you cancel their services in advance. All around unscrupulous and will try and gauge you for more money on move day. This company has very shady business practices. I was quoted for 6 hrs of work @80/hr or $480. My stuff (enough to fill a 2 bedroom apartment) was in a storage unit. I was asked which floor and if there was an elevator. I said the 2nd floor and that there was an elevator. She asked about my stuff and I said it was in boxes, but that the furniture was just out in the open. She said I would be fine and wouldn't need any additional packaging. The movers arrived the day of and started wrapping every piece of furniture with pads (some with 2 or 3 pads) that cost $4/pad and then wrapped all pads with duct tape. They even wrapped sealed boxes with more duct tape. Each roll of duct tape was $3.50. Once the stuff was on the truck and at the final location, they presented a significantly higher bill than the quote and to top it off, I HAD to pay in cash. There was an elevator fee (which I got waived after calling to complain - they knew about it, but omitted it from the quote.) They were going to finish the move in 5.5 hours, which I thought was great, except they then charged me for an extra hour to cover travel time back to the office bringing the total time to 6.5 hours. On the phone, we covered all the work involved and it came to 6 hrs. Instead of quoting 7 hours of work (which would have been the right thing to do), they quoted 6 hours and hide behind a disclaimer on their quote that says, 4 hours on the quote means 3 hours of work and 1 hr of travel time. My final bill was $700. $520 for the move and $180 in unnecessary packing materials. STAY AWAY! read more
