Awesome service and high-quality lens. The rental process was smooth - I would definitely rent from Mark again

Awesome experience. Great communication and even better selection of rentals! Will define be back as my local go to equipment rental.

Mark is just amazing. I know nothing about cameras and he set me up with the exact right fit for my needs. He even knocked the price down for me because he realized he was out of the camera he promised, so he upgraded me to an even better one for the same price! When I got to the location he was polite and very helpful. I had apparently bought an SD card without the adapter and I had planned on using the camera right away, so I thought my plans were ruined. But Mark jumped in and provided me with one himself to use for the weekend! After that he took the time to walk me through how to use the camera. The night went great and my friends loved how the photos came out. I would give him 6 stars if possible for the amazing customer service and for him just going above and beyond to give me the best experience. Will without a doubt be back to rent from him again for the next time I need a camera. Thanks, Mark! read more

I was in need of an RF 100-500mm lens. Just bought the Canon R6 and was curious on a good a native RF lens could possibly differ as oppose to my EF lens with adapter could be. Well... it does differ and does matter. So... I called PROtog Rentals. It was a late Friday evening so I left a voice message thinking I'd wouldn't hear back until Monday. Surprisingly I got a quick response back!! It was the owner Mark. He said would meet at the in 30 minutes. He was there as I arrived. Super nice guy and he had the lens I wanted to rent. He gave me what I thought was a super deal. Grant it, I've never rented any photography gear before so it seemed to a deal. Mark said that he was going out of town for a few days and I could use the lens until he got back at no extra charge to me. Wow!!! What a deal. Needless to say the lens exceeded my expectations as much as the service I received from PROtog Rentals. Would I recommend PROrog Rentals?? Heck yes!!! read more

Mark basically carried with him the best parts of the now shamefully bankrupt Calumet (what that company did to its employees is downright unconscionable) and left behind the not-so-good ones. The moment I got word that he opened up his own rental shop, I took my next wedding rental business to him. I immediately transferred my business liability insurance to him since he has the same policy Calumet had about NOT having to grab onto people's money for deposits (number one reason I refuse to rent as much as a battery from Samy's) and placed an order. Smooth, like butter. Even though the operation quarters are scaled down--no more ability to purchase items--all of the rental items I needed were in stock--from the Canon 5d mark iii bodies and a huge variety of lenses and sliders. I don't think I requested anything he didn't have. Same cheerful service we've all come to expect from Mark--all smiles and "yes, of courses"--and even a new customer discount even though I rented from Calumet for years. Lovely. Best photo rental shop in Orange County. read more

I needed to get my Nikdon D750 image sensor cleaned. From calling in to stopping by, Mark has been extremely informative and helpful. I thoroughly explained the process and his recommendations. Upon picking up my camera, he also updated my firmware. I definitely recommend this place! read more

Recently I was asked to video the beautiful outdoor wedding of my best friends Son. Being a total amateur I turned to Mark at PROtog, who gave me a great rental rate on top notch professional video equipment along with a free tutorial on the best way to use it. All batteries were fully charged and Mark even threw in an extra battery! Why use professional equipment? The tripod is smooth action and can be left unattended when need be. This was a $6000 camera I rented, the long lasting battery, low lux and LED lamp provided me with footage well into the night. The resulting footage was a treasured memory along with incredible sound quality. For a small up charge I also rented a lapel mike for the groom and captured the entire vows without the ambient outdoor noise. This was a lovely wedding worth remembering. Don't leave anything to chance. I'd use PROTag again. Thank you Mark! read more

Mark is friendly, knowledgeable and quick with his camera cleaning service. He has calibrated many of my lenses and cleaned my camera and sensor many times. It always comes back looking brand new. He rents lenses too - I look forward to renting from him one day. His shop is in an office park with parking right in front. read more

I would highly recommend this place! We needed a strobe light for a shoot, but didn't know exactly which kind we needed. We explained to Mark the type of shoot & set up, and right away he was able to recommend exactly what we needed. He walked us through how to use it when we got there and was so helpful. The light turned out to be amazing at the shoot! Definitely going back! read more

I've been renting from Mark for a year and his inventory and knowledge is unparalleled

I have known the owner, Mark, since his days running Calumet Photographic. I'm very glad to see that he has ventured out on his own to show how a camera equipment rental shop should be. Customer Service? TOP NOTCH. Mark knows his gear better than the back of his hand and will take the time to make sure you're all set. Compare this to Samys' abysmal rental staff who couldn't care any less about being there or answering questions about gear. I once forgot my wallet there and called their dept to see if I left it and the guy said no, only to hear a second later the staffer next to him say, "Hey look! a wallet." Equipment Quality? GREAT! Equipment Variety? Good, he's carries the major brands, Canon and Nikon. Lens Rental? Check. Camera Rental? Check! Lighing? YES! He has prosumer lighting equipment for rent. Check his website for inventory or call him up. If you ever rented from Calumet, PROtog rentals has essentially the same equipment. I'm told they have plans to expand the lineup even more over time. Pricing? REASONABLE and AFFORDABLE! The pricing variance in OC is between $5 - $15 here and there, not enough for me to gripe about prices here, Samys, or Prophoto. My 5 stars are only reserved for the truly deserving, and PROtog rentals is definitely the best because IMHO it IS the best around in OC. If you care about service and reliable equipment, this place is for you. And If this is any good indication, my drive to PROtog rentals is 50 minutes roundtrip, Samy's 40, and ProPhoto is 20. I'm happy to make that drive each and every time! read more

Amazing experience. Mark helped me from start to finish. From explaining the lenses to taking the time to give me so many helpful photography tips and answering all my questions. He is so knowledgable, honest, and kind - really great, personalized customer service. It really makes the difference. The whole process was easy and smooth. I will definitely be renting from them again. I highly recommend them! 5 stars! Thanks so much guys :) read more

I had a great experience with PROtog Rentals. I needed a lens at the last minute for an aerial shoot. Mark, the owner, arranged to meet me after hours and was super knowledgeable about the equipment. The lens performed great. Great rates too, compared to others in the OC/LA area. I'll definitely be back again. read more

Iz Awesome! Can't say enough great things about PROtog and Mark. We have three "Dad" photographers who shoot the local High School Football games for the Booster Foundation. Mark has the patience of a saint. We all knuckleheads, but he can walk us through any problem we run into. The equipment is great to work with... His personal touch and guidance are what this world is lacking these days. I only wish I needed more equipment year round. Don't hesitate, just call and talk to him. You'll see... He's amazing! read more

Mark is the best! He's my to-go person for lens rental and my experience has always been great.

This is my go to spot for lens and camera rentals! Since I don't have the budget to own all the glass I want, renting from PROtog has been the best bet for me and my small business. I have had the chance to try new lenses, and see what is the best fit for me and my needs. I ONCE rented from a rental location up the street (and only because it was last minute on a Saturday and PROtog wasn't open haha!) and all of my photos taken with their gear came back soft. That has NEVER happened to me in the almost 2 years I have been doing business with PROtog. Mark keeps his gear in great shape and is always a nice ear to talk shop and nerd out on camera stuff. I won't go anywhere else! read more

I am a professional portrait photographer and am so happy that a place like Protog Rentals exists here in good old OC. These guys are absolutely so helpful and generous in their help and are willing to help people like us in crisis. They are honest, sincere and charge only reasonable fees for their equipment which is always in top working condition. I would recommend them without reservation to any photographer needing help with some camera or lighting gear. Prasad read more

Mark the owner is outstanding. They did not carry the particular lens I needed but he gave me information what type of lens to get elsewhere for my particular needs. That's integrity!. He did let me know about what products he could provide and I will definitely be going here in the future. It's refreshing to work with a business that puts the customer needs first. I'm impressed. read more

I just rented a very sweet Canon lens from PROtog for the second time today. What I like best about Mark is that he's very friendly and knows a ton about cameras, lenses, and anything photography related. I think Mark is from the "old school" of business where you take the time to listen to your customer and develop a relationship rather than just treating customers as dollar signs. Even though I might ask some basic photography questions, Mark never makes me feel like I'm a newbie (like some OTHER camera rental places) and will give me sound and reasonable advice. I always leave his place feeling good about our interaction and looking forward to the next time I need a lens rental. There's a reason why Mark and PROtog has so many 5 star Yelp reviews and I'm happy to add my 5 stars to the list. read more

Mark is the man. I've rented with him multiple times and never been disappointed. On more than one occasion, I've had to rent a lens on a Saturday (not his normal business hours) and he still came in and took care of my rental needs. He's a great guy and runs a solid business. Highly recommended. read more

They did an excellent job on my sensor cleaning for my Sony A7SII.

Mark was a huge help in determining the best lens to rent for my application and provided in depth advice on the proper use for achieving the best result. I also appreciated the flexibility on returning the lens, although he is closed on weekends, he said to just give him a call and we could meet to return, this was a big help so I did not have to take additional time off work. I see myself being a repeat/regular customer here. read more

I just rented a camera from PROtog to film a wedding in Newport. I came in from out of town and was under some time restraints in regards to when I could pick up/drop off the equipment. The owner was EXTREMELY helpful in arranging these times. All of the equipment was clean and in great condition. Overall a great experience. I would definitely rent from PROtog again. read more

PROtog Rentals is always our first shot (pun intended) for all of our photography and cinematography rental needs. We have gone to PROtog rentals for our wedding photography equipment, wedding and corporate cinema rentals, and even for lighting for our Slo Motion Booth. Mark always has everything we need ready for us and delivers it to us each time with a smile. He is always very helpful, and we appreciate that so much. Cold rental shops with no personality are not our thing. This location is a bit of a drive for us but it's definitely worth it!!! Since the day PROTog rentals opened its doors we have been recommending this spot to all of our colleagues, and we will continue to do so. What are you waiting for? Try them out! read more
