Honestly didn't expect to love this place since I've had my fair share of Açaí bowls in the past and don't think any have stood out enough. However, protein lab got the ratios of smoothie bowls to toppings down and made the açaí bowl that more enjoyable. Tried the buzzer beats acai smoothie and the tsunami smoothie. Both were overly sweet and had a slight chalky taste although the menu says they are all fruit / veggie smoothies. They make the acai shake out of acai puree from a carton. If you're looking for the freshest smoothie I probably wouldn't go here because some of the ingredients are not real fruit just concentrates / juice. They also have a wall dedicated to Kobe, the GOAT #kobewall Açaí bowls are always a good option and they are delicious here. The protein shakes are where it's at though! I recommend getting the Champion; it is made of chocolate soy milk, chocolate whey, peanut butter, banana and cookie crumbles. It tastes so bomb! It's also pretty thick (always a plus). However, I don't know if the girl behind the counter was having a bad day because the customer service wasn't there. She mentioned the reward program to the customers after us, but not to us. When I overheard I asked if I could sign up and retroactively add points from our order, and she said no I don't know how to do that. There are not as many or unique options as say Blue Bowl, but you can get a standard delicious bowl of Acai here for sure. Location: Protein Lab is a little hidden and unassuming. There is plenty of parking out front and they are encouraging ordering ahead of time. The shop is quite small and only two people are allowed inside at a time. I went on Saturday 9/19 at 930am and I was helped by two female staff members who were so sweet and friendly. The one that took my order was very patient while explaining to me how the rewards work since this was my first time at Protein Lab. I got the large Acai bowl ($11) and my husband got the large Swish protein shake ($9.50). As soon as we got our orders we realized that the Swish protein shake has milk in it and my husband is lactose intolerant. We had meant to order it with Oat milk but forgot to mention it when we ordered. The staff was kind enough to make us another protein shake with oat milk this time. I loved my Acai bowl that came with bananas, strawberries, granola and agave. My husband enjoyed his Swish shake. I've frequented this place pretty often over the past couple months and it definitely did not disappoint even the slightest bit. To date, I've tried the following: -Swish: The only protein shake I've tried, but it was really good. -Acai Bowl: Their acai base is very flavorful. Not too frozen or runny. -Pitaya Bowl: I do prefer pitaya over acai anyday and it didn't disappoint. -Matcha Bowl: Not the biggest fan. The matcha base was very runny and the texture was really gooey. Flavor was good, but I wich it was a bit thicker. -Monster Bowl: By far, my favorite. The pitaya was a bit on the runny side, but the peanut butter with coconut shaving combo was perfect. I usually like to add some Bee Pollen for an extra 50 cents, as it does change the whole bowl regarding flavor. Make sure you use the Yelp check-in for that 10% discount + save your number for their FiveStars rewards app on the left of the counter. Also, leave a good tip because everyone that works here is great with suggestions and service in general. There was one girl in particular that helped me out one of my visits and she was great! (I get off work at 7:30am and usually come here by 8 or so and it's great to have someone that'll actually talk to you while doing their job.) My favorite item is the Rise & Grind smoothie, it's AMAZING - you get your protein and caffeine all in one! 8/10 on ambiance. I wish there was more seating available but it's clean and sleek inside. 8/10 on the service. Usually get my order pretty fast! Yoooo I freakin love protein lab's acai bowls! I'm so picky when it comes to acai bowls but theirs is qua-LIT-ty! Yep, I just said lit and take my word for it that this stuff is LIT. It's honestly comparable to Banzai bowl. I usually just get the regular one with PB slammed on top for 50 cents extra. There are a handful of premade bowls choose from and You're welcome to add on toppings for an additional 50 cents. What I love about it is that it's not too sweet and it's not all JUST toppings unlike other places that is not Banzai Bowl OR blue bowl. I've only tried one protein shake which was the cookies and cream! I mean it was okay haha it tastes just like a normal shake but I've yet to try the others. I was not too fond of matcha latte but it's still a must try while you're here! My tastebuds are different from yours. They've got a cute Kobe wall for photo ops for you instagramers and yelpers. We ran out of the door without breakfast this morning, and after a few hours I wanted a healthy breakfast and was going to deliver to my husband's office but was not sure what I was going to get in the Brea, CA area. I was actually down the block in the parking lot of Mother's Market and I saw a girl with a bright pink pitaya smoothie bowl which looked SO good and all I could see was the letter "P" on her cup, and I couldn't read the rest of the words, she walked away before I could ask her where she got it from. I walked into Mother's juice bar to pick up some ginger shots and asked how they make their Acai bowls (Acai packet with sugar plus juice topped with fresh fruit and granola-no thanks) and I did a quick search on Yelp for Acai Bowls, and I found "P"rotein Lab, and was so thrilled to find out it was just down the block in the Trader Joe's shopping center. I confirmed they make their acai bowls with acai puree (no sugar added) and real fruit like frozen strawberries, pineapple, banana AND they top it with fresh fruit, granola, almond butter, cacao nibs, etc. Yes, they even added a few ingredients per my request like flax seed and spinach (I found out they use organic!), and basically customized the bowl almost exactly the way I make it at home (except they don't have kale)....best part was...it was delicious, and I felt so great after eating it. You need the laguna acai bowl in your life. You read the description and think bee pollen? Weird. It's so good though. It's definitely what Gwyneth Paltrow would order. I love the acai bowls here because they have a thick consistency and don't skimp on the toppings. The only downside is that sometimes their acai bowls are too sweet. At some places you can ask for less agave but that doesn't seem to be the case here because their acai is already made.
