Feeling the winter blahs? I had a SuperFoods salad, filled with all of the healthy vegs and grains that are good for me. Good for me! Fresh, tasty and filling.

Japanese BBQ Salmon Bowl

Protein Bar and Kitchen has been our go to for healthier options. As someone who counts their macros and is health conscious this is one spot to go to that measures and makes sure their items stay consistent. Their service has been great every time we have gone. Very nice staff and they are also very fast! I got the BBQ salmon bowl this time around and was delighted by how the salmon was buttery soft. The sides that came with were also very fresh and delicious. My only complaint would be that it was a bit over dressed for the side veggies. I normally get their green goddess and that is an item that made me fall in love with salads! The ambiance is great as well if you want to dine in. They have a good amount of tables inside for those who want to dine in. It's a great spot to grab after shopping in the area or for a healthy date night.

I was excited to learn that Protein Bar & Kitchen was opening in Northbrook and I had the opportunity to stop in for breakfast. The store is in a small building in the parking lot of the shopping center which made parking easy because I was able to park by the store, away from other cars there for the main retail shops. The restaurant is decorated in orange and white modern decor making for an upbeat feel. The service was friendly and quick, although at the time I was their only customer. I ordered the egg, bacon and cheese bowl and The Perk smoothie. The bowl was really good. The bacon was a good mix between crispy and chewy. The Perk was good. I'm not a coffee lover but I picked it because it had the least amount of carbs. The drink has a hint of coffee flavor but not enough that I didn't want to drink it. I look forward to returning for lunch or dinner.

We came here for the grand opening as VIP customers based on our history of intense healthy eating. I happen to be the black sheep of the family and if lunch includes kale or some kind of powdered food I'd rather starve. I made an exception since the invitation was nice and my partner was so excited. With much trepidation I got the Japanese Bbq salmon bar-rito that has salmon prepared sous-vide and a bunch of healthy crap wrapped in a whole wheat tortilla and grilled. My wife got a salmon caesar salad which comes with a melange of life-energy and emotional well-being plus some kale, a piece of fresh dead fish, and a sprinkle of sunshine. We both got blue protein shakes that look like the blood of extraterrestrials with God knows what mixed in. The bar-rito was fresh and tasty and I actually ate the whole thing despite the stupid name. The bowl was generous in size and yummy too; hiding the cardboard texture of the kale quite well. The shakes were good, according to my spouse, although I honestly couldn't accommodate to whatever powder was blended in and thought they tasted like kindergarten paste. I probably just had too many toxins in my body that reacted violently with all the goodness in the cup. The place is cute, new and clean with excellent service being provided by the attentive staff and owner. We took a vote and decided to give the place 5 stars because we thought we saw Tinkerbell and Peter Pan flying around outside celebrating that this place is so good for you! Had we not been delirious from the kale and organic vegetable powders I personally would have knocked a star off for not having french fries as an option. Finally, it's worth noting that the place was full of North Shore salad Moms and their adorable little children; a coven of witches disguised by their plastic surgery and Lululemon attire. They were all so happy that there's finally a place to go in Northbrook and Deerfield, where they can feed their insides with such nutrition and joy.

Buffalo Bowl Riced Cauliflower

Really enjoyed this new fast-casual spot! Met up with a friend here for a quick bite and catch up. All of the menu items looked delicious! I opted for the buffalo bowl with riced cauliflower. It was flavorful and had a nice kick, like eating a healthier buffalo chicken dip! The carrots added a nice crunch, loved the zing of the blue cheese, and the chicken was chopped and thoroughly mixed. Service was quick considering there were only two people working. A little on the pricier side, but most healthier places are.

OK so I read the last review because there was only one and ironically when I went in I was the only person in there! It was 6 o'clock on a Thursday night empty completely. I ordered a buffalo chicken bowl and I will say that when I first looked at it when I got home I was disappointed because it was only halfway full and for $13 I expected more in there. Having said that it tasted very good and I finished it all and it was just enough for me.

We had plenty of room and it was nice to have delicious beer, good food, and a pleasant view of this part of Highland Park. I've been here before when it had a different name, but it seems like little has changed. This is a well warn bar! Comfy seats at the bar and a smattering of booths and table with a homey feel - lots of wood and available light from the large front window. This is not a huge room by any means but it never felt crowded. Our group had mostly apps like guac and chips and a quesadilla or two. I tried a Kolsch lager and a Marzen lager both if which were a little cheaper than usual due to the Happy Hour Special of $5 a beer. Margaritas are $6 at Happy Hour. The beer was very good! We had a great waiter and being seated just a few feet from the bar meant no one went thirsty or hungry for long. On past visits I was seated on the back patio but we had rain on this most recent visit, and it's also March! (Patio season does not start in the Chicago area for at least another month or month and a half!) The patio is a nice little wood fenced in area with lots of tables and a back tap bar. Not sure if that set-up is still the same.... This is a great local bar with a lot of rustic, homey charm. I'd definitely recommend if you want good local beer in a friendly old-school bar.

I waited for 10 minutes without even an acknowledgement of my presence. Not even eye contact. He came over to a stack of glasses in front of me to grab a glass and still no eye contact or even a "hey I'll be right with you" The place was empty. 2 servers were hanging out at the right end of the bar looking bored. Another patron walked in and sat at the bar. Bartender hollered out "margarita"? and then prepared him his margarita. Still no engagement or acknowledgement whatsoever. I got up and left. No surprise the place was empty.I'm sorry I do not have a food review. I did not want to wait all day to be served.

My family has dined here twice now and enjoyed both meals thoroughly. A full bar is stocked, and I've enjoyed a strong lemon drop martini here, as well as a glass of Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc. Dining area has about 18 tables, so it feels very intimate and cozy. The menu is posted on a large whiteboard and can change frequently. Favorites we've tried are the ravioli (filled with spinach, mushroom, whatever is offered) and chicken picatta. We don't leave with any leftovers. Entrees can range from $25-60 at moderate portion sizes, so it is a spendy meal but worth every penny. Warm bread and butter are served before dinner and the fried calamari is a crispy appetizer that hits the spot. To touch on post dinner... save room because that butter cake is one of our favorite desserts anywhere!! It is crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, served with gelato on top/side, whipped cream, and caramel and toasted pecans on our latest visit. Because there is no dessert menu (just what the waitstaff verbally tells you), here's what I can recall from it on our last visit last month: carrot cake, tiramisu, gelato, Oreo cake, banana chocolate chip cake, butter cake. Skip the Oreo cake. It tastes just like chocolate cake (a tasty one with a lovely crumb, just not reminiscent of Oreo at all) with a scoop of chocolate gelato on the side. Can't wait to return!

That alone should tell you how special it is. The Food: No matter what you order, it's consistently excellent. The artichokes are addictive--I could eat them nonstop. The branzino is perfection, cooked to a level that makes you forget every other fish you've ever had. The Atmosphere: Small, cozy, and charming. They've done a remarkable job maximizing the space without losing that intimate feel. It's the kind of place that feels like a secret you're lucky to know about. The Downside: They don't take reservations, which means the wait can be frustrating. Timing your visit is a bit of a gamble, but honestly, the food makes it worth it. The Service: Exactly what you'd expect from a team that's been doing this for decades--steady, reliable, no frills. The real highlight is the owner, who personally greets every table to make sure you're enjoying yourself. That kind of hospitality is rare and unforgettable. Final Verdict: Even if Italian food isn't your thing, this place will win you over. It's authentic, welcoming, and downright delicious. A true neighborhood treasure.

The meal was served family style so don't go when you're not hungry. There was plenty of food and it was all delicious; hummus, warm pitas, Israeli cucumber salad, eggplant salad, falafel, rice, green beans, shawarma, and coke or Israeli juice beverages. I loved it all! It was amazing to share a meal family style, make new friends, and eat really delicious food. I'll definitely go back and bring friends to this great venue. The party room was more than enough space for our in group and when I got done I shopped for a kosher candy bar in the adjacent grocery store! I looked them all up and was pleased with so many amazing options and started to kick off our weekend of fun at Mizrahi Grill. We walked in and my cousins and daughter were excited about the attached market and asked if we could shop there a little after eating. But first food.... We placed our orders and then waited at a table for them to bring us our food. While they were super friendly, it wasn't the fastest service and we were waiting for quite a while. Finally i went up to confirm they were working on our order and it appeared a few minutes later. It was worth the wait because we all agreed it was delicious! I had ordered a kebab sandwich on a laffa, which was stuffed with israeli salad, hummus, tehina, pickles and french fries (the best part). It was all so tasty, especially the laffa which i'm pretty sure they make in house. It was also ginormous. I ended up taking half home and eating it for dinner. The rest of my party enjoyed their sandwiches as much as I did. Before leaving we shopped for some treats at the market, including a $20 dubai chocolate bar that my kids have been dying to try thanks to tiktok. They split it for dessert later that evening and all 3 of them agreed it lived up to the hype. This is a great food option if looking for kosher food...or if you just want really tasty food!
