Wurst board for 2 and 1/2 a pretzel
    Kat M.

Fun place to grab a pint, ginormous hot pretzels (with great beer cheese sauce). We always get the Wurst board and split a chicken schnitzel plate. They used to have a chicken schnitzel appetizer, but that seems to be gone off the menu. It's a pretty loud place (it's a beer hall after all), but there is some outdoor seating right out front. Service is great- serving staff is very attentive.

On the way back to my hotel after driving through downtown Madison, I saw a logo I hadn't seen since I was in Germany, years ago. It was then decided that Prost would be my first stop for a night out on the town. Upon entering, I was met by great decor, awesome staff, and great beer (of course). I had the 3 Sheeps IPA (had to support a local brewery), and the Gentry's Rosé. Both were great, but I was pleasantly surprised how smooth the IPA was. With great drinks and more than enough space to hangout with friends or have an event, make sure Prost is on your list of places to stop in Madison!

First off, amazing cheese curds! I was in town visiting and used yelp to find cheese curds and this place came up. I am glad I took a chance and came here as they were delicious! They had a really nice happy hour on Monday with great beer and service was fast. I love the fact this is in an old church building, how unique!

This place is such a gem. Great beer selection and sausage boards are something special! Sorry for the blurry picture- I got excited

Pork schnitzel, gravy, spaetzle and pickles. Had already ate half the schnitzel when I remembered I needed a pic! Oops

My daughter and I had a little time to kill and was in the mood for German. Decided on Prost and headed the short distance from the UW campus. Unassuming, yet authentic German decor. Was met by the day manager (maybe the owner?) as it was like 2 in the afternoon. Sat down and was recommended to have the schnitzel and spaetzle. Our appetizer was the fried pickles. Wonderful!! Thick meaty pickle slices with not too much breading and fried to perfection. She ordered the chicken schnitzel and I had the pork. Both were tender and delicious accompanied by the spaetzle. Great service, great food. Good vibes. Highly recommend!

Stopped in with some friends while visiting Madison. Got a pretzel to share that was really good and of course a beer. They have a great beer and food selection. Seating for all different groups and the staff are all really friendly. Definitely stopping in again next time I am in Madison.

    Pork schnitzel

Last night I had the worst schnitzel I have ever had. Overcooked and extremely dry, even when doused in the gravy. The edges were inedible. Another diner at my table also ordered the schnitzel and said the same. The pretzels are great. Butternut squash soup was fair to midland. Fun atmosphere and the architecture is beautiful. Just don't get the schnitzel.

Chicken schnitzel over French fries and gravy

I was there on a Saturday evening 4 pm for dinner. I thought the place would be empty. But the place was super crowded and loud, that I left the place. Sunday morning 11 am I came back, and the place was empty. I was the only customer at that time. I went with a Chicken schnitzel with gravy. Chicken was fried real crisp. The french fried were fried cruncy crisp. It makes you crave for a beer. Spaetzle was my side. It was nice and flavorful.

Pretty good food. About what you would expect food wise. Cool atmosphere, but super loud (we were there for a work meeting so this wasn't great). We also had a reservation but the other half of our table didn't leave until way past our reservation time so we had to cram on one end of the table.

    Chicken strips

The food was delicious! I had the chicken strips which were thin and lightly coated. So much better than the thick battered strips. It came with a small cucumber and red onion salad. We ordered a half order of the pretzel. It was plenty for four people. I prefer a little softer pretzel, but it was still very good. It came with one cup of dipping cheese and three different mustards. My husband enjoyed the BLT with a side of warm German potato salad. The service was excellent. The guy was so calm and friendly even though he was managing a lot of tables. It is located in an old Lutheran church.

Schnitzel, spaetlz & too thin gravy

I'm always excited to hit up any place listed as German. We walked in as a split party of 8, with a 4/4 arrival. The first 4 were seated without the rest of the party being there yet. Always nice, but never expected. The server was accommodating - even snapped a group pic for us. The Pretzel was monstrous and cooked nicely, soft/ not overdone or dry. The hubs are I split a Schnitzel with a very thin sauce that lacked and real flavor. I'm not sure if that's how it usually is or if it had been thinned out. The schitzel was cooked golden and was a large serving but, as a Schnitzel Lover, i wouldn't order it again. I'd say our dish was ok, at best. I tried the sausage someone else had ordered & truly wish we'd ordered that - and I'm not big on sausage, but it was delicious. If I'm ever back, I'll be sure to go through the menu & select a new dish. The beer was good & there was a decent selection. If you're looking for a hearty meal, this will hit the spot - if you're wanting to go a bit lighter, share! Prices were reasonable, 20% already tacked on for the large party. I would go back.

Great Dane Pub has become one of my favorite spots in Madison for a variety of reasons from the drinks, vibes, service and community support! Situated on the corner of Doty and King in downtown Madison, Great Dane is a welcome sight for any visitor or local looking for a chill spot to have a solid drink, tasty bite and/or a good time! The pub is one large space, but it is separated into a few unique areas. One side is quintessential pub with a long bar, lots of dark woods, and a good sized dining room. The other is more of a pool hall vibe where you will find the other side of the bar, several pool tables, lots of TV's, high tops, darts, etc...We have bellied up to both sides of the bar and while I like both sides, I prefer the vibe of the pub side. They have a fairly extensive food menu with several bar/pub classics such as wings, nachos and burgers. But they also offer a good variety of sandwiches, bowls, salads, soups and even tacos. While we are normally here for the drinks, we do enjoy the cheese curds, wings and poutine! Speaking of drinks, they always have a great menu of house cocktails that is constantly updated for seasonality. I have had several iterations of cocktails and since I visit a few times a year, I always get to try new seasonal cocktails and beers! Service is always stellar here, no matter what side of the bar you are on. Welcoming, friendly and helpful...every time! Overall, I am an absolute fan of The Great Dane Pub!

To start, we went with the poutine, because why not! The fries were crispy, gravy was velvety and the curds were firm, yet melty enough for a good cheese pull! For our mains, we both went sandwiches. I went with the Celtic Burger, which is their standard burger with added caramel iced onion, whiskey bacon jam, Irish cheddar and a garlic aioli. The burger was good and cooked well, but it was less impressive than I expected given all the goods they added to it. While the aforementioned additions sound like a flavor bomb, it was still fairly one note in overall flavor. It was still tasty, but again, not as expected. My buddy went with the corned beef sandwich. He enjoyed it, no major issues! I did appreciate that exchanging fries with fried curds was an option, especially after loaded up on fries as a starter.
