I know this place gets packed! We happen to go before the place got too busy. Service was great, they took some time to answer our question only for us to decide we all wanted the same thing. We ordered the GurkenSalat, which the 3 of us shared, and we all got a lil greedy and each ordered the Schweinshaxe. 2 people could definitely share this. Pork had the crispy skin as stated and the whole shank was very flavorful. It was pared nicely with he spatzle and some braised cabbage. I would sooo do this again but I don't think I'll be quite as greedy and share with someone. I love that you can pick to sit outside or inside. The huge roll up doors are great. Overall, good. Long beer list with a variety of German beers. Reasonable prices, tasty food, and servers came by often enough. I would definitely recommend if you're craving some German food! The biggest turnoff for me was the smoking on the patio. Apparently bars in Bend can designate a smoking area in the normal establishment area. People were chain smoking in the patio, including some of the staff. I am not from Bend and I forgot how unpleasant this was. The ketchup served with fries is flavored line currywurst, which I didn't really like. I would return and recommend but probably sit inside to avoid the smokers. read more

The last few times we visited Prost were disappointing, but this visit finally earned a review. We came in last night with a group of 10 and ordered beers, appetizers, and entrées across the table--so this was far from a small tab. We shared a wide range of dishes--pretzels, beet salad, käsespätzle, döner kebab, König's burger, cabbage rolls, chicken schnitzel, and pork knuckle. The cabbage rolls, which are usually a standout, arrived cold, and several of the other dishes were noticeably greasier than we've experienced in the past What really sealed it for us was the service. Our waiter seemed annoyed the entire time and was blatantly rude throughout the meal. We tried to keep things simple by splitting the bill into three payments, which clearly frustrated him. When one person's card declined, he didn't walk over to the table--he shouted it across the room from his kiosk, twice. That was unnecessary and unprofessional. The best thing that was worth coming back for was the Kohlrouladen, that was super tasty. Everything else that we tried was Just okay and we had a pretzel, bratwurst, and wiener schnitzel. The other thing I tried was the rubensalat, definitely skip this. Really it is a cabbage salad, not a beet salad. That is of course unless you count 4 small slices of beet that are buried under a mound of cabbage a beet salad? I will say it had a nice sprinkling of hazelnuts, but the goat cheese was barely seen. They had a nice selection of German beers which is something I would come back for, hopefully if I do come back, it'll be better. Went to Prost to play at their Wednesday Trivia Night with the family and friends and to have dinner. We had a fun night. Good food too. Menu is a bit limited, but we all found something to choose. I got a side order of spaetzle and mushroom gravy. Great flavors together. Our table also got a pretzel, the Bend Burger Week burger, the rouladen and the apple tart for dessert. That was the family favorite of the evening. Everyone liked their choices. My hubby enjoyed their cider too. Service was excellent from the bartender and our table server! Great friendly guys. I absolutely love Prost. I went two days in a row and am looking forward to going back. The restaurant is beautiful, full of natural light, there's a patio for outdoor seating. Huge tap selection with most beers only available at Prost. The food is great. I'm a fan of the pan roasted pork with mushroom sauce and the pork sando. When we got a spot outside, the table across had just ordered Das Boot (Google it if needed). The bartender was going over the rules and expectations and made it a unique and fun moment. I immediately knew this was gonna be a decent choice for us out-of-towners. Fun, chill spot for some German fare and brews. Service was friendly and helpful. The outdoor seating area was laid out well and comfy even though it was just picnic tables. I'll be heading back at some point soon, as the main reason we went (and why I can't give 5 stars yet) was for the cabbage rolls. Sadly they were out... oh well I'll try the Brussel sprouts... nope out of those too ‍ Damn. What we did have was really good, though. My favorite was the Gulasch... potatoes w beef in a thick tomato sauce, seasoned well served with a rustic bread. The schnitzel was huge and filling but the German potato salad fell flat; they were good, but more like home fries. Having a Full German Oma (grandma) I know Germans potato salad and was really looking forward to something more authentic (room for improvement?) The wifey loved her Rubensalat, a simple and fresh beet salad w goat cheese and more. She found a dessert that's sounded insanely good, and IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT. It wasn't bad, just....not great. The fried brussel sprouts were good- we paid for the add in bacon. Important to note: they DO NOT provide beer tasters. No explanation as to why, just nope. Spouse said his plate was okay, but has now decided- he is no longer interested in German food. I ordered the trout entree. Turns out, they serve trout with the skin on. For me this was a big deal, not my thing. So aside from that, after having to de-skin the fish, it was good, but since nothing else really caught my attention, I am no longer interested in a return visit to this place. And I have no idea if they were short staffed, however, the server was not impressive. Met all the qualifications, but as I said earlier- a quick, 'we don't do that' to the taster request seemed rude, and no alternative provided or waiting for me to look at another beverage option. So fine, I drank water. Throughout the meal, no follow up such as 'anything else?' Meaning, we had to wait for their return to make a second request that had been intended to made with the first. Because the response was 'yes/okay', with an immediate departure by the server. It came across as rude, and then they ended up making more work for themselves. This happened a few times. A PNW small chain (Seattle, Portland, Boise and now Bend), Prost ticks off all the boxes for me. Prost Bend: - Inviting space with good seating inside, at the bar or on their patio. - Ambience is laid back with great music playing not too loud. - Bier! Where else are you going to get steins of German beer? And German beer is still pretty darn good even in these times of great craft breweries seemingly everywhere. I'll probably have to join the stein club. - Interesting menu. It's sometimes a challenge for me to find more than a couple of things I'd like to try (I don't eat pig which leaves out anything with bacon). Not here. My vegetarian wife will struggle a bit with the menu but there are a few things for her as well (they could improve on that). - Service is top tier. I love German food and this place disappointed me. Brats were decent, but not great. Condiments were limited, sauerkraut was ok. I love kraut and it disappointed. It's a bar it seems primarily and I wasn't there to drink. I ordered a root beer and water and both sat empty for most of the time until I was ready to leave. I had paid for my meal and then they asked if I wanted a refill of either. This is my biggest pet peeve for restaurants. I give a place a pass on this if they are super busy, but I was in there with 3 other people total in the restaurant and there were 3 workers all either having conversations with bar patrons or on their phones. Not impressed at all. If the food flavors were better I probably would have given them a higher score. But it was just ok. I went in looking to watch a game and eat great German food and I was sorely disappointed. I left fairly quickly and went somewhere else to finish the game. read more

They do have some good beer. As far as food, you can't expect a brewpub to know how to make really good German food. At best it was fine, but I grew up around The Rhinelander in Portland that was authentic and magnificent, so not fair to compare to that because this is definitely not that. It's fine if you've never had German food and you think that's what it should taste like then you'll enjoy it. Need to work on the spaetzle tho... Great staff! Ill go back. read more

One of our favorite places is the Prost in Portland so we were thrilled when it was announced that they were going to put one in Bend. That was more than two years ago and it was a very long wait until they finally opened. I love German beer much better than the PNW IPA craze so this is my favorite stop coming down from the mountain to stop for a half liter. They have had trouble staying open regularly due to staff shortages so check daily before you go. Small parking lot can create problems at peak times. Nice cold AC inside and a patio where you can take your doggies. read more

I was born and raised in Central Oregon. But I used to go up to Portland a lot (first with my parents when I was a child and then later as an adult) to visit friends. We ate at Der Rheinlander. The food was out of this world. I always looked forward to it. I was beyond sad when it sold in 2016 and closed not long after that. Then I started going to a couple other German restaurants up there. But they were just not the same. Some were even horrible. I thought that was the end of going out for good German food. Then I stumbled across Prost! RIGHT IN MY OWN BACKYARD! I said to myself "If they serve Jägerschnitzel. I am all over it. I know what good Jägerschnitzel tastes like" Its always been my go too. OMG! It was sooooooooooo good that I literally sat there and looked at the last bite for several minutes before I finally ate it. I did not want it to be over with. I felt like I was back at Der Rheinlander all over again. And actual I hate to admit it, I never thought I was ever hear myself saying this, but this was BETTER than Der Rheinlander. I brought my cousin with me. She had never had German food before and she also has a small appetite. But I know what her tastes in food are. I pointed out a couple suggestions for her on the menu. She chose Kohlrouladen and a Bretzel. And we each had Paulaner Oktoberfest beer. She has not stopped talking about how good everything was. As a matter of fact the first words out of her mouth when I saw her this morning was "I can't stop thinking about that FOOD last night!" To which I replied "That makes TWO of us!"
