I found this place totally by accident. It's nothing fancy, but super friendly and efficient service and a darn good taco for a very reasonable price. I had the Marco taco..very generous portion of meat and filling and a very nice mix of flavors. The chicken was a bit spicier than I would like..but the flavor was outstanding . Found this on a whim online when we were hiking in the area. Nice, big menu with lots of options for meatless and vegan. The guy taking our order was helpful and gave his recommendations. Food came out fast, service was friendly, and most importantly the food was good! Tbh, didn't have the highest expectations but the reviews do it justice. Ohmygosh! I'm in love with Angie! (The tacos all have names here.) This is an amazing taco place. Fresh ingredients on corn shells. The spice was just right for me. The menu is easy to read after a short explanation from the friendly and fast staff. The taco was absolutely perfect - rivaling fine Mexican restaurants and I will definitely be back. Proper taco does not mean authentic Mexican style tacos. Keep that in mind and you will enjoy the tacos. They are good. Probably the best I've had in the area. However the price point is a bit high. 4 dollars for a little taco? You end up spending as much as you would at a commercial chain sit down restaurant to be satisfied. This clashes with the fast casual vibe. Also they talk up their tortillas but honestly you could probably cut costs by making your own tortillas. Only star I take off is for the price point. Out west where cost of living was much higher you could buy a authentic and beyond delicious taco for under 2 dollars and was about the same size. I hope for the day of finding a place that serves tongue, face and tripe. But I imagine that's too much to ask of Midland to try something different. read more

Went here with my boyfriend the other day. To start the place is small but nice, the lady serving us at the counter was extremely nice and even made some friendly chit chat while we ordered. The selection was quite large in options with monthly special tacos. Now down to what matters, eating these tacos is the exact scene in ratatouille when he eats a bite of cheese and strawberry at the same time and his mind goes blank with shooting fireworks. Went there for lunch and it was good! We tried the following tacos: carne (beef), pollo (chicken), pork and fish. They all were tasty and I really enjoyed the fish taco. Living in AZ has made me a bit of a taco snob but I feel like this is the first time I've had a fish taco with capers, which really set the flavor apart. We also had the queso which I read the menu wrong and I thought that the chorizo was normally a part of it, but it is an additional charge. The regular queso was great and I can't wait to try it with chorizo! I'm not sure if the chips are homemade, but they were dusted with spices which made them stand out. Drank some tasty cokes from Mexico which are soooooo good. Since we got there at 12:15, there was a bit of a wait, but nothing too terrible. It is not a huge restaurant so my husband stood next to the table while my daughter and I sat, but that wasn't a big deal in our opinion. We could have gotten a seat outside, and when we left there were more seats available, but know that seating is limited. While we did have to wait a bit, it is on par with what you would expect when ordering fresh food...this place isn't a fast food taco joint, it's a restaurant with terrific food and a nice atmosphere. Menu looks great, T-shirts are clever. Tacos were jus meh. I noticed 2 or 3 slow cookers (Crock pots) in the kitchen which kinda indicated to me that they weren't a prop operation. I had the Carnitas taco, and the Pollo taco along with black bean dip and chips. Chips had a bunch of some kind of salty seasoning which I didn't care for. The bean dip was the consistency of a putty. As for the tacos, the tortillas weren't really warm and and the meat was just overwhelmingly salty. We ordered several carnitas tacos, a Karen, and a Juarez. The Juarez was real spicy. The carnitas meat was on the cold side but it was very good. The Karen was downright amazing. Proper Taco is the first place I tell visitors to go for excellent local food. My family and I eat here regularly and have not been disappointed by any of our selections. Very impressed. I'm glad that Midland finally got a more authentic Mexican restaurant. The tacos tasted "fresh", by that I mean it does not taste like a Gordon food service sauces. Nice, casual taco joint that downtown needed. Love the simplicity of the menu but creativity of the ingredients, including the thick corn tortillas. Our favorite taco we ordered was surprisingly the veg--it didn't need meat to pack in a ton of flavor. We also especially liked the pork taco with pineapple marinade and mango habanero slaw.
