If I could this place negative reviews I would. This is not due to the fact that I did not like the drinks or venue itself, it is sadly due to the owner herself. I could not believe how incredibly rude this woman was. She completely mistreated my cousins and I. We were chatting and catching up and decided to choose some music from the self pay jukebox, but apparently she did not like the music we chose. She then proceeded to essentially try to kick us out by slowly removing all of our glasses off the table and bringing us our checks before we were even finished. She then made an extremely passive aggressive comment to us as she picked up the cups from our table. She said "I hope you enjoyed your music". We felt so uncomfortable and could not believe that a GROWN woman said that to paying customers. She should be so embarrassed. She is the reason why I will never return read more

I love small bars with character so I was really excited to try this swanky place on Magnolia Ave. There's a seasonal pop-up Santa bar and decorations to match but unfortunately the staff wasn't so festive. I came in with a date when there were maybe 4 or 5 people (mind you this place is pretty homely, the max is probably 30) and was ignored by the 3 bartenders and what seemed to be the owner. After grabbing their attention I was disappointed by the drinks which sounded extravagantly imagined but lackluster in taste. It took another 20 minutes to close my tab even though we were sitting right at the bar, the people around us seemed to be more important or needy. To top it off, they didn't have Fireball which should be a crime in this state. Overall, disappointing. 10/10 would not recommend. read more

This is a small quaint place for drinks. We sat at the bar and it took awhile for servers to attend to us, which was OK at first because I noticed people closing out/ordering before us. An older woman was our server and after discussing the drink menu with her, we made a decision and she took our order. She was caught up in closing out other peoples' tabs, so we patiently waited again... Another bartender saw we were waiting so he took my boyfriend's drink order and I would have to wait longer because the drink I ordered was something only this older woman could make because it was her "concoction" (Tequila infused tea with lavender and other spices/herbs). 30 min in, i still didn't have my drink. She saw still waiting and I know she did because she looked up a few times, but didn't bother to say hold on or that she'll get to us shortly. I'm not one to jump to the conclusions that I'm not being served because of race, but I couldn't help but feel my intuition telling me otherwise. My thoughts ran along the lines of.."I am the only minority in this bar.. and this woman doesn't have a care in the world that I've been waiting, and is fully aware of what I'm waiting for." The woman never came to check on us for the remainder of our visit. The other bartender (a gentleman) that served my boyfriend noticed I still didn't have my drink, attended to me, and I informed him I changed my mind and I wanted a beer. He was apologetic and served my beer of choice right away, as well as did not charge us for it due to the wait. Do yourself a favor Proper, hire more competent bartenders such as the guy described above. You should have no tolerance for wait staff that can't handle mult-tasking or that lacks customer service skills. I don't plan on visiting this weird establishment again. read more

Excellent cocktails! Excellent beer selection! If you can't find something you like here you should probably stay home from now on. My girlfriend asked for something strong. And that is exactly what she got, though it was very smooth. Then again I was drinking an Old Fashion. I had my mind set on having one so I passed on beer this time. That didn't keep me from scoping out the options. I assume this was a "cocktail bar" so I wanted to stick with that. The beers were taunting me though. They carry a good variety, and even a few specialty beers. On a Saturday afternoon we were the only people there. A few others slowly poured in afterwards. The bartender said it does get packed during the evenings so I felt like this was the best time to go. You can't tell from the outside but there is also a patio out back. The music was hit-or-miss but they do have an Internet jukebox. I will have to go back when the atmosphere is a bit more lively. read more

Bartender didn't kick me out on my 21st unlike Barcadia, so immediate plus! I found them on yelp and after letting him know so gentleman starting thinking about random discounts for us! He and I chatted about drinks and he made me 3 over the course of the night. Interesting beers for the boys, and strong mixed drinks! Perhaps strong because I'm a new drinker. It was a chilly night so on the patio we sat. Cute little tables for about 4 small groups and a path out to the parking. Electronic jukebox, but can only buy songs in increments of $5 on your card so pay with singles. Now that I'm free of age restriction, I plan on making a visits here when in the south. Home sweet home, you know? read more

There isn't anything fancy about this place....and that's why I love it! Ya'll don't tell The Usual or Boiled Owl but this might be my new favorite Magnolia Ave. hangout. It's small - it's quiet - the bartenders are friendly but won't talk your ear off about their 7 cats and new tires they put on their vintage Subaru. It's located on the "east side" of Magnolia - a new burgeoning area that I am actually looking forward to developing. Come here if you want to have some good drinks in a dark relaxed atmosphere. Or come here if you're the type to try and impress your dates with the cool new places to drink.....cause I am telling you this will be one of the cool new places of Southside. read more

Great bar and the proprietors were extremely friendly. It was a slower night albeit the last few days had been packed. If you are looking for a good patio and some solid drinks - venture east of Hemphill... grab a bite at SPICE and stop in next door. We tried their gin martini, French 75, Tom Collins and In 2 Weeks (which was a guiness, whiskey concoction and great nightcap). read more

This place is great!! My boyfriend and I visited upon recommendations from friends and we were pleasantly surprised at how wonderful our experience was. Ben and Tanner (and another gentleman whose name I can't remember--sorry!) were behind the bar. Ben took great care of us! We had awesome conversations with Ben, drinks were on point, and the atmosphere was very inviting. Bathrooms were very clean as was the overall bar/seating area. I'm so looking forward to coming back and visiting again. Thank you Proper! read more

The bartenders act like they are doing you a favor by allowing you in the place. We live in the neighborhood and been here off and on for years. I think I am done with the attitude, poor service and epically slow cocktail preparation! read more

Do yourself a Proper favor and do not attend this place. The place was very small and dirty looking, which was the first sign that I have made a terrible decision. thereafter, I sat at the bar and waited for over 25 minutes to get someone to ask me what I wanted... TWENTY FIVE MINUTES. I saw this gentleman at the bar--who obviously saw me--but decided to chat the world up with the coworkers instead of providing me with appropriate customer service. I don't want to jump to conclusions now, but after reading another review it only solidifies my intuition. I do believe race played a huge factor since I was the only minority at the establishment. Definitely not going here anymore that's for sure read more

The drinks are definitely amazing! The owner was very kind and the bartenders had great customer service. I would definitely recommend this for a nice casual date night or just hang out with your friends. read more

I came back here and here is my new advice... Get a house cocktail!! They are amazing. read more

Another spot to grab craft cocktails on Magnolia. It's wedged between Spice and Fixture- there's parking in the back behind the building. Though tiki week had passed, they were still serving the special menu so I got to try some fabulous rum passion fruit drinks in lovely little tiki cups. The drinks are well made. There's TV's if you need your sports fix. There's a small patio out back so you can blacken your lungs. It's a solid spot to get a craft cocktail. read more

Proper - Hula Kula - Cocktail Bars Near Me - Fort Worth, Texas

Really enjoyed my experience with Proper. Interesting selection of cocktails, friendly staff, and mellow aesthetics. Loved the few cocktails I had with friends that evening. Try the Songbird; single malt scotch ginger and lime on the rocks. It just feels good to see positive change being made on Magnolia. Note: My 5-star rating is based not on a scale of "the best" bars I have ever experienced, but rather in comparison to other bars in Fort Worth. read more

Proper is a tiny bar almost on a corner on Magnolia. It's squeezed in next to Fixture. It's really small, so it's hard to notice, but you'll find it. There's a nice little back patio that I haven't been able to squish over to yet and it's a nice, cozy space. The first time I came here, I was looking for a drink after eating at Fixture (a nice experience, by the way). Four of us walked in and were immediately out of room before we even got in the door. I'm not one to bash a place just on its size. I frequent one or two places that are beyond small, but Proper wasn't making it work. The bar line was long. The service was slow. I couldn't see any menus or tap handles from where I was standing. It was amazingly loud, due to the large crowd and cranked music in such a small area. After about ten minutes of making seemingly no progress in line, we left. A few months later, we find ourselves on Magnolia again and give it another shot. It's not nearly as crowded this time. There's only a handful of people there and several are at the bar on laptops getting some work done. Sadly, despite having a far smaller crowd to battle, the bar was still amazingly slow, drinks were a kinda weak, and everything seemed a little overpriced. The price may be a symptom of the location, but still. Eventually, the quiet and sparse scene became the noisy mob from my first visit. Paying out took forever and trying to get to the bar to sign the check was pretty cramped. The problem is a ton of little things that pile up. There were disinterested bartenders, but I can get over that. The menu was riddled with misspelled words, but I knew what they meant aside from the fancy liqueur that I couldn't figure out. The space is tiny, but many good places are. The drinks are slow, but I can deal with that and sometimes it's due to a well-made drink. However, those misspelled drink menus really stand out after you've already waited forever for a drink from a bartender that took a while to acknowledge you and paid more than you wanted to before you tried to squeeze yourself back to your spot. If they could work down to one or two of these problems, then it'd probably be able to make up for them with other qualities. read more

If you're going to serve craft cocktails that take a while to make, there's nothing wrong with that, but this place should consider having more than one bartender working on a Friday night. We waited forever for our drinks. By the time I got my crime diva, I thought it was pretty good, but not worth the wait. We would have liked to try other cocktails, but we didn't feel like waiting so long again and ended up going somewhere else. This is a place that's probably better to be tried at a non-peak time. The atmosphere to me just seemed like a typical dive bar. Like so typical it's cliché. Tiny space, exposed beams and "character" of the building, hipster bartenders, weird thing playing on TVs (in this case an old black-and-white movie). The patio looked nice, but it was too cold out for us to enjoy it. Overall, I wasn't very impressed. read more

My husband and I just stopped in for our our one year anniversary. Elle (Ellie) was our bartender this Sunday afternoon. The pickle vodka was amazing. The special cocktail she recommended according to the taste I informed her that I was accostomed to was perfect. The "crime diva" signature cocktail was great. The vibe is casual casual upscale. Nonsmoking is wonderful. But this wonderful bartender gets the kudos. As you know, a bartender can make or break your night. read more

The location is super cool and the menu is extensive! So excited to go here, however, we sat for over 15 minutes ignored by the bartender and upon leaving she said "Thank you" followed by "I didn't want to serve you." I'm not quite sure why four people were not worthy of being served, but we are all good tippers and ready for drinking. Will likely try it again, just pretty disappointed. read more

I still like this place, but my last visit was a little disappointing. I came here around 1600 on a Saturday for a personal happy hour with a companion. I ordered a Mai tai and was told by the bartender that the bar didn't have all the ingredients to make that drink.... on a Saturday. Whatever, fine. I decided to go with chopin with club soda...and was told they don't carry Chopin. Whatever again. I went with grey goose and club soda, and so did my companion. Which was made really quick. For a nice bar, this place sure doesn't carry a lot of basic things, like mixers and a good variety of vodka. I would come back again because I do like the atmosphere, but maybe after awhile. read more

Small bar but great space. Love the ambiance. I'd go back for sure. The best thing here is that you can order from SPICE provided, they are not busy. Which is most likely any Friday and Saturday night, So be prepared to not have that option on the table on the weekend. They have about 5 tables(4 top) and a bar area for 10 at best. Def for small group. read more

A great little hole in the wall bar off magnolia next to 24 plates. If it is your first visit make sure to take advantage of the 20% off via yelp. They have rotating specials and classics like the French 75 and a Moscow mule. The staff was friendly and were available to answer questions. Make sure to have a visit if you're in the area read more

Proper - Cocktail Bars Near Me - Fort Worth, Texas

Love the atmosphere, love the cocktails! Staff very accomodating to special requests. Unlike practically every bar in Ft. Worth, you can actually have a conversation here! And a note to Moto, about the White Russian, I have found it is very rare for a bar to serve White Russians! Scat Lounge is about the only one I know of, and they usually charge a cover. Great place, though. read more

Enjoyed our time for the most part. Bartenders were great. We asked to go on patio and the girls were nice about advising us to use vape outside gate which we fully understood. The owner proceeded to come out, catch an attitude, ask the people next to us if they minded if we smoked (which we were not going to do inside the patio) , then advised us again we can't smoke on patio (which we had already been told), then came back again to ask us what our issue was with being inside. Maybe let your employees handle PR so you don't lose business. Will not be back. read more

Classy without being stuffy, and hosting a fun and relaxed vibe, Proper not only hits the nail on the head with ambiance, but their patrons are always happy, adding to the laid back atmosphere. The bar tenders are attentive, serving up VERY well made cocktails and they take good care you! Fun tip (for any bar, really): ask the bartender what THEIR favorite drink to MAKE is. You'll be in for a treat! read more

I love this place. Been a few times and it's small and very chill. There is an outdoor patio where you can hang if the weather is nice (only issue is smokers) read more

I read some of the negative reviews, however, my experience was great. Smelled fine to me (I would notice). The bartender was a mixologist, a plus, and professional, but not intrusive. Great small, clean bar atmosphere. Music is perfect, low enough for a conversation, eclectic selection. Taylor and Jeremy (staff) on Saturday before 8 was appropriate. Nice social mix of patrons. It's a good vibe with no rowdiness. Adult atmosphere. read more

Proper is my favorite bar in Fort Worth- actually- the metroplex. I love it's quiet and secluded ambience. You get away from all the annoying college bars and hang with a more low key crowd. The bar manager and the owner are extremely pleasant with great recommendations. Are the drinks more expensive? Yes. But I'd rather pay more for a great old fashioned than for a well vodka club elbow to elbow at other bars in the area. I bring everyone who visits me here. read more

Proper: making proper drinks - properly, not pompously! Ha! Try any of their seasonal drinks on the chalk board. Chris is our usual bartender. If you can't decide, just let him chose and you won't be disappointed. read more

Yikes! The vibes are seriously off in this ar . The manager/owner/waitress/not really sure was a complete and total pill. I came in with a small group of friends expecting to have a good time laugh and enjoy some drinks. She had other things in mind. She was disrespectful to the entire group from the moment we walked in. She did not really want any of us to have a good time. She was rude and very upfront about it. She did not want us in her bar. Not a problem. We will not be back. Very very disappointed. If you are looking to go out and have a good time with friends, this is not the place for you. This joint was very pretentious and not for the faint of heart. If you want to avoid people and have a not very fun time this might be a good place for you. read more

Stopped by for drinks after dinner at The Fixture just out of curiosity. Bartender was friendly and happy to answer all of our questions about the menu. Inside looks really nice, as does the outside patio. I can't remember the name of the drink I had, but it was the spicy one with maple syrup. There was actually a nice kick of heat, but since it was served with ice it was still easy to drink despite the hot weather outside. It was a little slow when we walked in, but it was pretty early, like a little after 8 on a Friday. Also, Friday on the Green was going on. I'll definitely be back again, so I'd be interested to stop by when it's a little later to see what the vibe's like. read more

I've only been here once and have been meaning to stop by again. The bartender we had one Sunday afternoon was THE BEST!! Can't remember his name, but I just remembered he told us stories about working at bars all across the nation. Had him make me his favorite drink which has Laphroaig and I was absolutely in love!!! I definitely need to head back soon! read more

Tucked away at the far end of Magnolia by the Thai place, this bar is cozy, neighborhoody, and hip without an attitude. Range of ages. In the summer it's decorated as a Tiki bar with some 50s and 60s exotica in the music mix. Extensive drink menu with craft cocktails. read more

My wife and I stopped at Proper after seeing a show at Bass Hall on New Year's Eve. The couple we were with had never been there, but had heard good things about it. At first we felt like we were crashing a party, as there were New Year's favors on the table, and the place was well occupied. Turns out we were in the right place for a good time. The bar was small but lively, with an appropriate music selection playing at just the right volume. The bar staff was very friendly. Also featured is an outside drinking area which we didn't visit on this cold night. We enjoyed our drinks. A decent wine and beer selection, featuring some local brews and custom cocktails. The wife very much enjoyed her 'Brother': a strong, sweet and creamy drink featuring Patron XO. The owners were on site during this New Year's celebration, mingling and serving complimentary champagne at midnight, along with some homemade salsa and black eyed peas. Proper turned out being the most 'proper' place for us to end our night. To sum it up in a word I would say, hospitality. It isn't the fanciest bar with the biggest selection, but it felt very homey and welcoming, the perfect place to visit and ring in the new year. Looking forward to returning when we're in the area again. read more

Great atmosphere and staff. The menu is a mix between classic and original cocktails by the staff. They all seem very knowledgeable and eager to help us choose something new when we ask. Always hits! James is our recent favorite but we enjoy everyone we experienced behind the bar. We've been in many times in the last two years and have seen several faces behind the bar but always a great time and excellent service. Kudos to the owners for staff choices. The atmosphere is hip and comfortable and the music is really good every time we visit. read more

Had a great time visiting with the ultra knowledgeable bartenders, or mixologist if you prefer;) cool atmosphere, great drinks!

I completely agree with Mr. Rogue V, the bartenders have zero customer skills. My friends & I stopped by at 6:45 on a Saturday. The place had one other table of 4 ~ and that was it. We walked in - no "hi", no "hey", no acknowledgement whatsoever. We sat down at a table in front of the bar & 5 mins later - still nothing. They seemed especially put off when I walked up to place our order. It was just real weird. We had two drinks & left. My friend snuck up to pay the tab, but I had left my card when we placed our first order. Stopped at the bar on the way out & asked for my card back......I got the stink eye from the lady. drinks were very good though. if you go, just avoid the people working the bar!! read more

Bartender ignored my request for vodka in a cocktail because he thought it would be best to put gin in it.. I think it best i never go back.

Drinks are good but there is a really strong litter box smell, unfortunately. I can't tell where it's coming from/why it smells like that, but it ruins what would otherwise be a great atmosphere. read more

Came here after the Usual down the street. This place is a very intimate, hip establishment. Its like the next-door neighborhood bar so to speak. We were greeted by the friendly owners on a cold Saturday night. There were about two other groups of people in the place around 12 pm. It was very cold so I didn't get a chance to check out the patio and this probably why there were not that many people out and about. Its another hidden gem of a place to enjoy and relax with a nice drink and good conversation. Will be going to Spice next door and hop over to Proper for a good night out soon. read more
