Three of us had lunch today at Proof for the first time. Oh my gosh what a great experience from the time we walked in the door til we finished our meal. The restaurant is so cozy and decorated perfectly. Our waiter Jerry was superb. He gave us great recommendations. We started with cocktails espresso martini and old fashioned! They were excellent. For lunch we had the pork belly lollipops, the tomato Gouda bisque, spicy fried chicken salad and grilled cheese and short rib sandwich with Au jus on the side. We mentioned we wish we could get some pastrami burnt ends on the side and Jerry made it happen All of the dishes were perfection but trust me we had no idea how large the portions were. We came home with enough for dinner!!! Loads of parking so don't miss out on Proof. I don't think you will be disappointed. Make reservations because they do fill up. My wife and I have been going to Proof for a while now and usually have a great experience until today when we went to brunch for our 30th wedding anniversary. Had to ask for coffee multiple times, barely saw the server, and never got my fries with the meal, which the gentleman that brought the food (not our server) said should be brought out shortly. Last, the server came and asked "what any dessert or just the check?". First time we felt like hurry up and get out. We paid and got out. Not the normal experience we usually would have coming here and am very disappointed it happened. We might try one more time but have found that early weekends (before 2 PM) don't go, we had another mediocre experience about a month ago about the same time, but not as bad as today. Hoping we can get the same wonderful food and service which made this our favorite restaurant but if not, we will be looking elsewhere. read more

We reserved the Cask Room to celebrate a birthday party with about 15 guests and our experience was phenomenal! Our server Laura was super sweet and attentive, she made sure we were taken care of the entire time and she had the best recommendations for food and drinks. Our food came out super fast too. Our entire party enjoyed their meals. The drinks were all amazing. The manager Eli introduced himself when I walked in as I was the host for the party which I thought was a nice touch and means they are very personable. This was a GREAT!! Spot, I am so happy I found this during my lunch break. The Brussels were to die for, super flavorful and not to greasy. It is refreshing to finally have a good Brussels without the grease! The pickles were good, nothing over the top but damn good! The dip made them and kept them flavorful! The Cheddar jalapeño bites were GREAT! The dip is spicy but all in all they were delicious! Next was the salmon, chicken rigatoni and mac and cheese which satiated us. Such a great balance of flavors. This was my first time going, and I really enjoyed it. I thought the atmosphere was delightfully cute. It was like stepping into Christmas. We were seated at a table and ordered 2 appetizers, quesadilla and monkey bread, both were delicious. The monkey bread's top was gold. Service was really slow but that didn't damper the experience. I ordered a special burger that melted in my mouth, and it was amazing. The Dutch baby for brunch is also really good. It was perfectly cooked and better than any pancake I could eat. Had a great initial experience at Proof. Had an 815 pm reservation for dinner and were sat promptly at 815. Our waiter, Octavius was great - offered suggestions and favorites. We started with the trio of fries, pork belly pops, mozzarella stick, and brussel sprouts. All were great. For dinner we had the smothered chicken, meatloaf, pork chop, and cannelloni. We finally had dinner here for the first time. I LOVE the atmosphere here! Kennon was incredible and I hope we have her as our server the next time we come in! I arrived at Proof on a Sunday afternoon just after 5 PM. The vibe was relaxed, and not too crowded. I had no trouble grabbing a seat at the bar. I downed two Allagash White beers and went all in with the 24-oz Bone-In Ribeye. It was served with seasonal street corn, crispy steak fries, and beer-battered onion rings that I devoured. We were here last night for the first time in the private room for a birthday party. From the moment you walk in the door, this place is beautiful with a great vibe. Our server that we had all night in the private room was phenomenal. He had tons of knowledge and recommendations on the menu explained several times as people kept arriving about how the process of everything is scratch made, and going off of some of his favorite recommendations, all of us in the party, commended him and loved everything that we had from drinks to apps to food to the dessert. We ordered the table the brussels sprouts the tater tots, the bourbon, glazed, pork lollipops, twice baked pierogies, crab Rangoon dip, and Reuben egg rolls to start. All were delicious. Then I had the smothered chicken and jalapeño tots and my wife had the ménage, a pepperoni flatbread and side Caesar salad and both her and I loved our entrées. Portion sizes were good quality and taste was amazing. The group all ordered several different things off the menu and all said it was delicious with no complaints. I came in here for a midday lunch and a pick me up. I got the Caesar salad with fried chicken and the brussels sprouts from the appetizer menu. The brussels sprouts were delicious but a little bit sweet for my taste. The ones on top were perfect. The ones on bottom, a little too sweet. The Caesar salad was delicious with a light dressing and very crispy chicken. The star of the show was definitely the sticky toffee pudding. It was the perfect portion and very deliciously flavored the toffee was crisp. The ice cream was cool and creamy. The service was quick and very attentive. My glass was never empty. So I had been to black sheep several times, and have a substantial gift card for the group that owns these places, so we thought we'd change things up and try Proof. Prices are on par with Black Sheep, but to me, it's no where near as worth the price. The cocktails here though are excellent, and a step above black sheep. So if you want a good drink, this is the place to go. Service is also outstanding, just like black sheep. Wait staff is very helpful and responsive to tables' needs. The eating area is kinda small though. It's decorated nice, and looks great, but from the outside you'd think there would be 2x the seating it has. So for me, the food was the one thing that really brought this place down. The food is not bad by any means, but it just did not stack up to its sister site at black sheep. And the food was just as expensive. This seems like one of those places that tries crazy combinations of flavors because they can without stopping to think, 'does this improve the dish?' And in many cases I don't think their creativity added to some of the dishes. Again, nothing I had there was bad, it just wasn't worth the price we paid for it. read more

She: Chilaquiles (she thought a juvenile approach to nachos.. with eggs flopped on top). Not drinking and that may have been the problem. Seems like an event place and larger groups/families venue, and perhaps just a drinking establishment Too far for a re-visit for us. Food just ok and a bit disappointing...not really a brunch menu.. This didn't bother us, we took it in stride. However, they knew they were running behind but didn't tell us. We would have gone to the bar for a drink. You actually would think they would want you to go the bar and spend money. After 25 mins, we had perused the shop long enough, I asked if we should go get a drink. This was when they said they were running behind and still had reservations ahead of us to be seated. They said the bar was standing room, so absolutely go have a drink. But, it's not standing room. There are only seats all the way around which were all occupied and no place to squeeze in to order Yep, you guessed it...no drink ordered. The good news our table was ready. Our waiter was okay, he attempted some sarcasm but honestly wasn't very pleasant. The other thing we noticed was that there were too many "hostesses/managers" standing around, hoovering to see if tables were gonna finish up and in one case grabbed empties off the table in a hurry. They obviously have stuff to work on. This will be a place to linger. They need to build in more time for patrons to enjoy there drinks and food. They need to fine tune some of their dishes. We will try again in 6 months or so. There are many food items to try and we hope we can find some delicious options. After standing around for 30 mins with no niceties or apologies from the hosts, decided to go get drinks for our group of 4 from the bar while we waited. Worst vodka martini I've ever had... ever. Patrons at the bar were amazingly friendly! Bartenders not so much. Finally after 40 minutes and bad drinks, we left. Very disappointed. Just left Proof. The service was good. It's very cozy inside with leather seating and dim lighting. We sat at the bar as we didn't have reservations. Bar seats are not usually comfy but these were plush leather and had foot rests so that was nice. The Pull Apart Monkey Bread was a little dry but the Boursin cheese topped with a chili crisp was incredible! My Gimlet was tasty if not a touch on the sour side, his Old Fashioned was really good with Luxardo style cherries and NOT maraschino so that's always a plus! He ordered the Thank Ya Verymuch burger which he LOVED. Said it was really tasty and original. I had the Proof Chopper which sadly was very soggy and drowning in a bland dressing, and the She Crab Soup which was very thin, had almost no crab and definitely no caviar on top.
