I come down from Ventura to see "Shady", and his name couldn't be more ironic, because there's nothing shady about him or his work. He's been maintaining my 2005 Lexus SC430 and has saved me a boatload of money on repairs and maintenance over the years. He's respectful, friendly, and clearly takes pride in getting things right. My most recent service made the car run like it did when it was new. The engine is humming smoothly again, something I've honestly NEVER experienced after a repair or routine maintenance anywhere else and I've owned this car since 2007. And while the name S & M Automotive might make some people do a double take (hahaha), the only thing painful here is realizing how unnecessary other repair bills can be once you find a mechanic this good and dependable. My appointment was for 1:15 but I got there early and was taken right away. The manager Issac greeted me and did the test . The website states smog tests could take up to an hour so I took a seat and within maybe 30 minutes I was all done. Issac told me my car passed and the certificate was sent over electronically to the DMV. I had a coupon for $10.00 off I found on their website and it was honored. The labor rate was fair, the communication was clear, and instead of pushing one expensive path, Danny took the time to explain different options for replacement parts and what made sense financially. I live in Woodland Hills, and Sharp's is in Oxnard, so this was not exactly around the corner for me. But after that first experience, I felt comfortable enough making the trip because it already felt worth it. After that, I came back with my own 2016 Chevy Volt for an A/C issue. Since that car does not have a traditional belt-driven compressor setup, I knew it was going to take more than generic trial-and-error diagnosis. Danny was patient, methodical, and clearly willing to think through a problem instead of just throwing parts at it. The issue ended up getting solved efficiently, which was a huge relief. One other thing that really stuck with me while I was there: multiple people from the neighborhood stopped by just to say hello to the team at Sharp's. That kind of thing says a lot. You can tell this is one of those local businesses that people genuinely trust and feel connected to. It's not always easy to find a shop that feels honest, competent, fair, and genuinely helpful, but that was absolutely my experience here. I left feeling really grateful that we found them. When I called AAA they sent me to Fisher/Martin automotive which was 1 hour and 15 minutes from where I was. I was so upset I didn't understand why I had to go so far for a repair. Dont bring your car here!…read more I had my radiator was replaced when Jason was still here. Jason was a really great man. Floyd, however, is very rude and condescending. 6 months after my radiator was replaced, the new one started leaking. I called and spoke to Floyd, who stated that if the radiator is the issue, they would replace it under warranty. Three times I brought my care here, and the first two times he said it's not the radiator. So those first two times he charged me a diagnostic fee. This being my only car, I had to pay Uber fees to get it there, and get back. On top of the diagnostic charges. The first time he told me it was the water pump and tried to charge me $900. I bought it for $100 on rockauto.com and replaced it, and still had a coolant leak, so it wasn't the water pump. I took it back to him and he told me it's the coolant hose and charged me yet another diagnostic fee. I let him replace it, and it was still leaking coolant. I took it to him a third time and he said it is the radiator and replaced it for free. Or at least he says they replaced it. Once I got it back, I now have an oil leak that I didn't have before, and it still leaks coolant! The only reason I am not suing him is because I decided to get a new car. So he charged me two diagnostic fees when I was right the first time, and I had to pay Uber fees every single time I brought it here. Two Uber charges to get it there, two Uber charges back, three times. And that is on top of his incorrect diagnostic fees. And now I have a car that still leaks coolant, but also now leaks oil. I say it again, do not bring your car here!
