I researched a bunch of brands online, but the nature of the metalwork on the door turned this into more job than I could handle. I reached out to a few locksmiths in town, some that I've had good experiences with in the past, but everyone had the same line: you'll need a metalsmith to make alterations to the door in addition to locksmith services. Turns out Alex is also a metal worker, and has a lot of experience working with San Francisco security gates. He talked me through what he referred to as a "light industrial" setup, explaining the benefits and lower energy consumption of this solution. I didn't really need a wi-fi compatible smart lock, just a dependable keypad lock that I could easily set up and add/delete individual codes on. He answered on my first call, took the time to explain what would work best for my situation, offered free advice on a second door that saved me from having to do a retro-fit, got me on the schedule only a few days after I called, and did the installation in under an hour.
