During a routine examination, Dr. Kaiser noticed an anomaly on the retina of my left eye. Recognizing the seriousness of what she observed, she immediately referred me to a specialist in retinal conditions. That referral led me to an advanced specialist who confirmed that the anomaly was, in fact, a melanoma -- a type of cancer. I was then referred to a surgeon in New York City who specializes in treating retinal cancer. The treatment involved a cutting-edge procedure in which a radioactive disc was placed on my eye. Fortunately, because of Dr. Kaiser's timely detection and insistence that I seek further evaluation, the cancer had not metastasized to other parts of my body. Her vigilance and dedication made it possible to treat the condition before it became life-threatening. When I received the glasses and I couldn't see out of them, I found out from a subsequent visit to my orthoptist and another optician that both pair of glasses we made incorrectly and that the prescription in one pair was way off. When I contacted Eyes on Hudson about the issues, my concerns were met with exasperation and an overall unwillingness to work with me. I have since gone to another optician who specializes in difficult prescriptions. Perhaps Eyes on Hudson is very good for general glasses. But I would not recommend the business if one has any special needs.

My husband and I went in for eye exams a few weeks ago. The Lafont sales representative (Garth)…read morewas there and the Vision World sales associates were pushing that brand (since it is luxury) and even told me they had no similar frames to the ones I liked in any other brand. We all discussed my frames at length, particularly a distinctive color on the inside of the frame. I ended up ordering the eyeglasses from that brand anyway because I did like the frames. The assistant manager said it would take 2 weeks to get them in and that they would call me. I went in today after receiving the call a few days ago that the glasses were in. I saw the frames and tried them on and immediately noticed that they were different than the ones I ordered, namely the distinctive color was absent. The assistant manager insisted they are the correct frame as she "wrote it down" and could not recall any frame matching my description. I insisted and suggested calling Garth to ask. I said in the meanwhile, I would like a refund since I have over $350 sitting with you and now we don't even know which frame it is that I wanted. She told me she cannot issue a refund for several reasons and that they would "figure it out." I insisted again and she went to the back office to call someone who confirmed to her that there are in fact frames matching my description and the frames they were giving me were wrong. I again insisted on a refund while I wait to see the correct frames before placing another order. She refused again and went to the back office. A few minutes later, she returned stating that she will give me the refund but that the store "cannot service me again." After a mistake by a store employee, a refusal to make me whole after confirming it was their error, and an eventual reluctant refund, the assistant manager thought it was appropriate to refuse me future service! Completely unprofessional attitude and sloppy service.

Instead, they only offer store credit. They also try to justify higher pricing by pointing to promotions like "one or two months free" or rebates, claiming it's a better deal than 800 Contacts. In my view, either you price match or you don't. There's also a lot of pressure to buy contacts on the spot. The pricing they offer is presented as a "same-day only" deal and typically requires purchasing a full year's supply upfront. My advice: ask them to print your prescription and consider buying your contacts elsewhere. That way, you're not locked into purchasing a year's supply all at once and can shop around for the best price. Also, note that Dr. Cindy M is no longer with this practice.
