Several years ago, Airco installed a 3-ton variable-speed system in a house that had previously had a 2-ton unit (and a history of trouble keeping cool). After about a year of operation, our tenants reported mold in the ducts, high humidity, and a short-cycling unit. Our investigation found that the installer, Stuart, had never pulled a permit for the work. I want to be candid: it took a negative Yelp review to get Airco's attention. Jeremy reached out, recommended we upsize the ductwork, offered a very fair price, and agreed to close out the permits. I'm slow to trust, so I got second and third opinions from other HVAC companies -- they confirmed the system size was correct for the house, and that the ductwork should have been upsized at the original install. My own Manual J calculations agreed with Jeremy's. Notably, Jeremy was the only installer I could find who was actually willing to run a Manual J. He also followed through on pulling permits and getting the city inspection scheduled. Airco worked to schedule the new duct installation during the one week we'd be in town -- during peak season, no less -- and their crew moved fast and stayed professional, which I appreciated given how brutal a Texas attic is this time of year. A few days in, the system is no longer short-cycling, and indoor humidity has dropped to about 63%. Still a touch higher than ideal, but we think we can chase the rest of it down -- possibly window seals, possibly fan settings or duct leakage. I was impressed enough that I also used Airco for a plumbing call this week.

It's his business and you always interact with him directly. He gives you his cell phone number and patiently answers all your questions as needed. He does the scheduling and he's the one that comes to do the work. When working (I had a cooling check done), he made sure to explain everything about my particular cooling system to me and took the time to answer any questions I had. It's obvious that he just wants to do good work and leave the customer happy. He's not looking to make more money than he's reasonably owed. When looking for an AC tech to check my cooling system, I briefly chatted with a bigger company who gave me inflated pricing for simple maintenance (they were also oddly ambiguous about contingency pricing). Philip was straightforward when we first spoke and gave me all his pricing, including any potential add-ons (super dirty coils, etc.). It was an easy choice. His prices are very reasonable. It was $80 for a cooling check (incl. a light condenser coil cleaning) and $60-$70 for a heating check (in April of this year, obviously prices are subject to change based on economical considerations). The only problem is he's busy! Since it's just him, he's booked way out in advance for maintenance. He does always leave openings for emergencies so don't hesitate to reach out to him. It's a bit old school so you've got to pick up the phone and call (no online scheduling or Yelp quotes or anything). I also paid by personal check (forget what other payment options were available). He put the panel back and told me the compressor is bad and the rotor is locked, so he suggested to change the whole system with an estimation of over $9400. Then he put the AC power key back upside down which is off. After he left, we found the power key was not placed correctly and put the disconnect key back to on, the AC started to work normaly... The temperature of the day was 110 degree.

I was looking to replace my entire AC system which is why it's important to find the best in the business and rated the best. It's also important to find more than one 5* business so you can get a better picture and quotes for such an expensive endeavor which I found helpful. If you're going to go all the way with such an expense, it's best to educate yourself as much as possible, and there's lots of YouTube videos on AC repair and replacement which you should watch prior to making that decision. You really need to be an informed and educated customer or you might find yourself with an inferior or wrong system. I found that certain AC companies want the steer you to certain brands they represent, so you may wish to decide on a brand first. I found that the Carrier Infiniti system with its very high seer rating and variable speed was the perfect choice. More details on this system in the photos below. If you live in a two-story house like mine, you can expect the price to be much greater due to the fact that you have dampeners which will need to be fixed or replaced which greatly adds to the bill. As for my AC, it was over 20 years old, but still chugging along. However, I knew there was going to be new mandates in 2025 which would greatly add to the expense of AC replacement such as a new refrigerant which is slightly flammable called Puranovance. I replaced my old R22 compressor with the new R-410a which is still readily available, but will eventually be phased out many years from now. I also mistakenly thought you'd get a good deal by replacing it during the cool months, but apparently a lot of people were doing what I was doing so no break in the price. As a matter fact, the date of manufacture of my new Infiniti compressor was only just a couple weeks old before it was installed. After some back-and-forth on pricing, we finally decided on a date of installation. Carl and his crew showed up and had everything installed within six hours and hauled off the old units. We still needed some troubleshooting in order to dial-in the thermostats functioning properly, but everything works perfectly now and the temperature remains exactly as you set it throughout the house. Both the compressor and the blower motor are incredibly quiet. Since I knew I needed this replacement at some point, I had enough money in the bank to cut a check for the job. When you sign up for Carl's service, you get Carl in the equation. Check out the photos below which show you the equipment, specs and the pricing. Update: After 2 weeks the plenum did separate, but I was able to use foil tape to close up the 8" gap. Personally, I think a 30 day check up would be a good idea not just for Carl, but anyone who gets this kind of installation from whatever company you choose.

So basically, I'm a business owners' worst nightmare I'm sure. Eddie is my hero. I've relied on him for 2+ years now to maintain my old HVAC unit. He basically taught me the basic of homeownership when it comes to an HVAC unit so that I could take care of basic problems and avoid having things clog on me again. This was after he was able to come out same or next day, and found me cheap but practical solutions. Fast forward to this past Sunday. 8am we hear a clunk. Our A/C started blowing hot air. Uh oh. I remembered Eddie telling me the last time he was out that I would get another year or two-ish from my A/C...that was a year ago...so I texted him to see if he was available. He doesn't work Sundays but said he would be happy to come out Monday, totally fair! Since it is super hot, we did go ahead and call another 24/7 to just see if it was a "quick fix". It was not. We basically needed to replace the entire A/C unit and given the age of our furnace, they recommended doing both at the same time if we planned to stay in our house (we do). I asked them to send me the estimate and they said they would on Monday. I texted Eddie to let him know the situation and see if we could get an estimate from him too since I knew I trusted him. The next 48 hours was a bunch of quick back and forth while he got info from us, worked around our schedule, got the estimates for us and the new units, and installed. It's now Tuesday night, and we have a brand new system up and running. Even after working all day in the heat, when he was done, he took his time to show us every detail of our new system, walk us through other recommendations to keep it up and running and close us out. I knew I trusted Eddie and he proved me right yet again! He's also just so damn friendly and kind. He's worth every penny and will work his butt off for your business. The technician arrived and advised me to replace some bolts which should fix the pro lem. If not then purchasing a new unit would be the next step. We did as advised and it still didn't work- forcing us to buy a new washing machine. After purchasing and installing the new unit- we discovered the bolts he advised us to replace were in fact the shipping bolts. I would hope that a technician coming to assess a piece of equipment, given the model number/year of the machine in advance would be able to identify what SHIPPING BOLTS were. After explaining this to the manager they refused to refund the $50 fee for the error on his technicians part. Your better off going on YouTube to find a solution rather than calling their inexperienced technicians. The manager blamed us for the mistake in the end which only made the situation worse.
