I called AAA and they sent John Lopez from Star Towing. He could not open my truck and struggled for over 1hr he said he could not open it and that my only option was to break my window. He was rude and was frustrated and i tried helping him which he then told me that he was the best in the business but apparently he is not. He kept saying that my truck locks were jammed which they werent. He finally got the door open after over 1 hr which he ended up ripping my window tint in the process with his metal hook. Called AAA with a dead battery and they sent someone from Pro-star towing. Got a new battery installed and my check engine light has been on ever since. I called Pro-star every day, several times, last week to speak to the manager who I left my number for. Each time I called I was told he was busy or he already left. After 3 days with no call back, my husband calls and demands a call back. The manager calls my cell and leaves a message saying he's been out of town for a few days. I call him back for the next few days and leave more messages and no call back. I'm hoping this 1 star review will prompt someone here to offer assistance. I'm not going to pay an auto mechanic to fix an issue that Pro-star towing may have caused when they installed a new battery. Update: The manager has NOT been trying to call/reach me for a week. I received 1 call from him last Thursday when he left a message. I called right back and was told he'd call me back. Never heard from him until 15 minutes after posting this review. Called AAA because battery died while waiting for gas my partner was bringing. I had to submit information that I was using a mobile phone . I was informed through the app that it would be 1 1/2 hour wait and I could track progress through the app. Then I get a text that Pro Star was pulling up (no they were not) and to click the link. Then it said service was complete even though I'm still stuck on the side of the road. It's a toss up between AAA and Pro Star as to who is to blame. AAA was responsive when I called and talked to a live person. They put in another ticket and I gave them my location. 1 1/2 hours later no tow truck driver. I called again and takes with same amount of time. Driver said he called my number but it came as a private line and not a company line on the caller ID. My phone will not ring if the call is not in my contacts list. He didn't leave a voicemail so how was I to know that was the driver. I'm expecting texts update and not calls. Driver - Ryan Cosare was rude and blamed me for not picking up calls that didn't ring on my phone. Taking a mental health day off from the horrible experience. read more

My car battery died, and fortunate it was parked in my garage. Contacted AAA via mobile app, which was easy to use with answering a few questions on my phone. I do like the fact that AAA app provided a battery quote so I knew in advance an estimate for replacement to compare reasonable pricing. Once my request submitted, it provided a tracking estimate of time of arrival. Prostar (Raul P.) came to my rescue within 1 hour of my request. Raul communicated clearly to me by testing my existing battery, and gave me the prognosis of a very low level that the battery needed to be replaced. I suspected this, since the battery has never been replaced, and the model year is 1999, 25 years old! Raul had stock of the correct battery 49AGM, and allowed me to watch him remove my old battery which is located in the backseat. Raul is very professional, and very careful about the remove/replacement of the battery, in addition very considerate of avoiding scratches of my other parked car in the garage!!! I appreciate his knowledge/skills and he explained every step of the procedure, and finally showing me the State of Charge Scan summary, as I wanted to learn for my own education about cars. In summary, AAA/Pro-Star provided me with excellent quality in response, quality, and service. I really appreciate Raul's friendliness and making this a very pleasant experience, and getting the job done with ease!!! read more

The key was still in the ignition and the engine was running so he had to first use his wire to turn the key in order to manually pop the lock. We thank him for his prompt response (he called quickly and told us he would be there in 15 minutes, which was accurate) and polite service! Terrible customer service - this company is a contractor for AAA roadside service. My wife had a tire go out on the freeway and called AAA service. My wife was contacted by the dispatch center from Pro -Star with a 45-minute window - 70-minute window of time to assist. I finally drove out to help my wife out as the AAA towing service did not show up. DO NOT USE PRO-STAR towing. My family has been part of the AAA roadside service over 25 years - this was by far the worst service we have ever had. read more

Update review, since the owner is a smart jacka$$ that seems to think "don't break the law" is the answer to everything. People get their cars towed. Stuff happens. The police did tow my car after a minor accident. But you didn't have to take advantage of me right after I already had an accident, by charging fees worth more than 10% of the value of the car to pick it up the next day. GETTING YOUR CAR TOWED DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY IMPLY GUILT. Also, my car was not impounded as you claimed in your response. If the car was impounded, it would have been cheaper to forget about it entirely rather than pay even a week of your fees. (I'm assuming this is exactly what you want: unaffordable recovery of vehicles so you can keep and sell them) People get their cars towed and impounded all the time. However that does not automatically give you the right to extract the maximum amount of money from them as possible. Then you make it even worse by calling out every negative review with "don't break the law". It's easy to justify what you do by simply labeling people as criminals. What's hard is having a little empathy, which might lead you to stop taking further advantage of every person victimized by law enforcement. I'm glad the positive reviewers had a nice triple A experience where they didn't have to pay out of pocket. However, the other side of this buisness involves intentionally taking advantage of people in peril. This buisness is beyond detestable and deserves each and every negative review, and then some. read more

My car battery is broken. Called AAA and Prostar came within reasonable time. But the technician is not very attentive, ignored my comments on many corrosion residuals underneath battery housing, not responded on whether I can clean it before the installation. Even though I shared that battery is only 3 month old, next thing I know is he finished installation and took the battery without asking for permission. Called their office days later to see if I can get battery back in order for refund at original store, the customer service was rude and hang up the phone, not willing to acknowledge the suggestions that they should train their employee double check with customer before taking battery away. read more

Overall a 4.5 out 5, at the time I contacted them via them AAA app, I initially thought my battery died and I either needed a new battery or a jump. The status updates via txts were pretty cool and informative, but the gps/location just seemed to be off a tad imo hence why the eta was off or even when I checked a few times, it appeared to be still in the same area of freeway on his way to my house. The driver was very friendly and cool and laid back and he did his inspection and hooked up his diagnostic machine to my battery and upon inspection he said my battery was still decent and was around 60%. He also asked me what did I do and hear when I tried to start my engine. He then asked me to turn over and start my car engine, which I did and it started but it was still was a slow start and said it might be something else like the starter. He then basically gave me a few options, he said regardless if I wanted he could sell me a new battery or he mentioned my car battery should be under warranty at Honda and if everything checked out, they could replace it..I opted to go to Honda. Overall, while my problem wasn't solved or completely solved and everything was done right there and then, the response time, updates, the driver were all extremely positive experience for me. read more

Awesome service. I wish I could remember the gentleman's name. I was taking the kids to Discovery Kingdom when we hit something in the road. Tire completely came apart and we barely got to the side of the road. Got in touch with Pro-Star and said I could use some help. I didn't have a great idea of where exactly we were but he tracked us down. He was in and out of there in under 10 minutes. Complete professional and super friendly and helpful. They save us today. We didn't end up going to Discovery Kingdom as I wasn't 100% on board with driving on the spare for hours but we will be there tomorrow. Please read all of this so that you know what you up against. The police towed my 92 year old father's car. There was a string of unfortunate incidences and lack of good counsel. Unfortunately, my dad is nowhere near and my 87 year old mother had to deal with getting the car out of the tow yard. Being her son, I helped her. They quoted me a price of 490 dollars over the phone. They said that the owner had to directly release the car. I drove my mom to the Milpitas tow yard but apparently the "office" is in Fremont. We called them and they pushed us to go to Fremont as it is only five minutes away. It was actually 20. When we got there I went inside to pay. I told them my mother was ill and she didn't want to go inside. Abusively, the fat necked guy behind the counter demanded that my ill 87 year old mother come into the office to pay and release the car to them. My mom doesn't have her latest Covid shot, yet. The bald, pudgy, latino guy with spindly arms demanded that she come inside and I quote "Bro!" If she didn't then he wouldn't release the car. I suggest that he go outside and verify the license. He was very obstinate. (means stubborn in case he reads this!) But acquiesced. (Means gives in) I put the keys on the counter. Suddenly it was war. I quote "Look Bro, why you giving me attitude Bro. F*** Bro. Why you yelling Bro! I said that I would take the license and she didn't have to come inside, Bro!" By the way, that was not a good thing to do as he should of checked to verify that it was her. It was a string of curse words and then he quoted me a hundred dollars over what he quoted me on the phone. I said you quoted me 3 days not 4. He continued arguing with me. He calls up the owner says that I'm yelling at him and in his face with another string of curse words. There was a 2 and half foot wide counter in between us. He puts the phone on speaker. The guy on the phone who most likely was skinny, bald and has a French mustache said, "I don't care. We pull in hundreds of cars all over the roads in Milpitas. I make lots of money. I heard all the sob stories from everyone. So if you don't want to pay the fee, I don't care. Its $3500 in collections later and ill get the money." His manager though smarter came in to defend the buffoon. The had a panel of jerks standing by laughing at me and my mother's situation, one named Dave who came in later after he got off the phone. I called the police to get advice. While I was talking to the Milpitas police. My mom started to panic. We don't have much money to eat each month due to my mother's current circumstances. Against my advice, my mom rushed in there and told them she couldn't afford the extra hundred dollars. They mocked her mocked her voice and made fun of her because she is old. She went into a huge panic attack. Lots of bad things are happening to her. The police officer that I was talking to couldn't come out to assist like the dispatch said he could as it was in Fremont so he called the Fremont paramedics and the firemen to assist. Eventually, they took the hundred dollars off. I got the stuff out of the car and left. They are unsavory, criminal, low and hate themselves and their jobs. This was a chance for karma and they missed it. Don't use them ever. Those group of guys need to be fired. Milpitas needs to discontinue their service. Californians need to wake up. read more

I wanted to take time to give Terrance Tech # 909292 a SUPER BIG SHOUT OUT for going above and beyond the call of duty. Ive been having Issues with my Battery for my 2015 Kia Optima, just about every week or two my battery would die and i would have to call AAA to have it jumped, it got to the point i had to purchase a portable jump starter to keep on hand, i bought the battery from a Prostar tech which happens to sell AAA batteries , from my understanding the liquid battery that was sold to me should've been a AGM Gel battery due to all the elctronics my car has , one particular Tech told me that the AMG battery isnt for my car and he couldn't replace it although it was still under warranty, i eventually had to take it to the Kia dealership in Fremont and payed out of pocket to have them run a diagnostic on my car, it was determined that the battery was bad and needed to be replaced, the same tech that told me my battery was fine and didn't take a gel battery because it wouldn't fit met me at the dealership and argued with the service Manager questioning his performing of the diagnostic, and still wouldn't replace the battery after I mentioning having to jump start my car around 7 times since the issue started a few months back. Well finally again my car wouldn't start the day after Thanksgiving and I contacted AAA and told the Customer service rep what was going on and he immediately made my service call a warranty call and Terrance the service Tech knew exactly what the issue was when he arrived and replaced my fluid battery for a Gel battery which does fit without hesitation and appoologized for the inconvenience and bad information the other service Tech gave me which turns out hasn't been on the job that long. We were heading out on a road trip when we found our battery was dead. We previously had a service from AAA out to replace a battery. Because we have a 2013 Ford escape, they were not able to physically take the battery out to replace it, or that's what they told us. ProStar mobile battery service came out this time. The guys were brilliant. They were polite and professional. They took the time to remove the old battery and replace it for us. They had to remove the air filter to get to the battery. I called Saturday of when my car got towed. Lady on the phone said she can't help me cause on the weekend they're closed. How the hell are you closed on a weekend but still towing cars? Makes no logical sense. So I called back again and again and even again and no answer. On Sunday I called and they picked up and told me they can't help me and after they wouldn't pick up anymore. Monday morning today, Went to their Milpitas location for my car and they said I had to go to Fremont to pay and then come back to pick it up. Why can't I just pay at the location where my car is at? They charge $90 a day and cause they wouldn't tell me anything Saturday and Sunday, they got $180 additional. It's their system to milk money out to tell people they can't help them on the weekend while the car is in storage and they're making money off us. 10/10 would not recommend. EVEN Went to PD to pay the $50 for release and they were confused when I called and they towing lady said they can't help me with my car. Owner is mad cause I'm speaking facts. Horrible company. I had my car towed by then, and during the process, the driver David scraped my carbon fiber exhaust on the ground and verbally acknowledged it. There were 4 witnesses at the shop my car was getting towed from. I tried to take this up with the company, and the person I spoke to, also named David, essentially told me I was wrong and that the damage was already there. I have written testimonies from the shop stating that they both saw this happen and heard the carbon fiber crack, and picture evidence that there's no previous scraping on the bottom of the car. The muffler points at an upward angle to the point where it can only get damaged while being towed. I was told that this is consistent with wear and tear damage, which is needless to say, incorrect. This company will damage your car and gaslight you by saying you're incorrect about something that other can confirm. Don't get your car towed by them under any circumstances.
