I needed a plumber at my vacant home near my parents in The Villages, FL. The water department called to warn me of high usage - 39K gallons in one month, in a vacant house. My parents checked the inside of the house, no leaks. Mom and Dad recommended a "great plumber, great price, we trust him 100%" - Lorin at Pro-Plus. Lorin checked it out, diagnosed the problem, and was all set to do the work. I called Dad to thank him for the referral, and Dad said he checked the area where Lorin was sure was the problem, and Dad was also sure it was the problem, because Lorin knows his stuff. But, a scratching of the head, where could 39,000 gallons of water have gone? Is there a drain to the sewer? because Dad couldn't find anything wet. Silly me, I passed on this curious question to Lorin, so what do you think happened to the water? Lorin texted me a tirade: If my elderly father is questioning his expertise, I should get a second opinion. Lorin stated he had not charged to diagnose the problem, he was not scamming me, and he was highly insulted that we thought he was a scammer, when he hadn't even issued a single bill. Huh? I sent three apologetic texts and left two apologetic voicemails (he never answers the phone, just responds to voice mails by text), stating we weren't questioning his expertise in the least, we were just wondering where the water went. He suggested it watered our big tree, or went under the house. I texted back, well, at least we have a well-watered tree, and hopefully there wasn't an alligator under the house. He did not respond. The next day, I called him and said, on voice mail, I hope you understand that we still want you to do the job, we did not in any way think you were scamming us, and apologized yet again. I got a text response: Find someone else. Which is what I have done, after reporting this to my parents, who have a lot of friends in the area. I hope Mom and Dad pass the word around and Lorin loses work. I don't know Lorin, but you'd have to be very angry with the world to respond in such an erratic fashion to a benign question. read more
